his former team-mate, Uchiha Obito, when he was younger, leading to his monikers Copy Ninja Kakashi (コピー忍者のカカシ) and Kakashi of the Sharingan (写輪眼のカカシ). Though a prodigal talent and one of most capable ninja. Kakashi's Sharingan granted him recognition from the entire ninja world. He later on becomes the leader of Team Kakashi, where he uses his years of experience to train his students to become talented ninja. After the war ends, Kakashi becomes the Sixth Hokage (六代目火影).

Kakashi at his Ninja Academy Entrance ceremony.

Kakashi was born on the day of September 15th. Because his mother had sadly died when he was still very young to remember her, Kakashi was mostly raised during his early years by his father, Hatake Sakumo. Sakumo was famed all throughout of Konoha, by having to saved the village on at least one occasion; Kakashi in particular also revered his father. In the anime, he once won a child's competition by performing the most advanced technique to win a kunai prize. He also played some games with Rin and other kids his age. After successfully passing his entrance exam to join the Ninja Academy at just the age of 4, he met Maito Gai, who despite Kakashi belittling Guy's lack of any natural talent as Guy had failed his Ninja Academy entrance exam three times, Guy quickly came to like Kakashi. Sakumo also warned his son to not take his own training or Guy very lightly, as he may one day surpass Kakashi. Despite this ridicule in the anime, Kakashi also however defended Guy when he was being beaten up by other adult ninja who made fun of Guy's father.

During one of Sakumo's missions after Kakashi was enrolled in to Konoha's Ninja Academy, Sakumo made the decision to save the lives of his teammates rather than to complete the assignment. The mission's failure had disastrous consequences for the Land of Fire, therefore causing many in Konoha, including the teammates he had saved, to vilify him for abandoning his duties. Disgraced, Sakumo had committed suicide in his house. Seeing what his father went through and determined not to makes the same mistakes that he did, Kakashi decided that following the Shinobi Rules must always take priority. He would also visit his father's grave on the anniversary of his death.

In the Ninja Academy, Kakashi always earned top grades, earning him recognition as a prodigy and the best of his generation. He would even spar with Hiruzen during a class session. While being a orphan, Kakashi lived his life exactly just like how Naruto had did. Such as by being shunned in public, saying when he is finally home, and when he is leaving. He would also learn how to fish by a lake and learn how to cook fish. He would also clean his whole house by himself. When he is in public Obito would try to get him to eat at Ramen Ichiraku. While cooking one night, he had let Obito and Rin eat with him. Kakashi also told them that he wouldn't be a cook. He then visits his father's grave as he vows to never be like him, and the next day he had Obito and Rin cheer for him while he was fighting Guy in class. Upon seeing how hard Guy train, Kakashi would do the same by climbing a cliff while using only one hand and no Chakra whatsoever.

Kakashi graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 5 at the top of his class in a single year. He later on became part of a one sided rivalry with Guy. With Kakashi's growing reputation as a genius, Guy eagerly challenged Kakashi. While initially Kakashi was indifferent to the overzealous Guy's request, Kakashi ultimately agreed, defeating Guy in every challenge. This however only made Guy more determined to defeat Kakashi. Seemingly warming up to Guy, he continued to accept Guy's various challenges (including eating contests and Rock, Paper, Scissors), ultimately giving Kakashi a record of 49 wins and 50 losses.

Upon learning from Guy that his father begged to go on a mission so he won't get chop, in which made Guy really angry because his father was a Genin as an adult still. Kakashi on the other hand admitted how he admires Dai because he tries his hardest to keep going. Including how the former raised Guy to be the same way.

Eventually he and his classmates, Nohara Rin and Uchiha Obito, were teamed together under the leadership of Namikaze Minato. In the anime, Minato gave the team a bell test at its formation, assigning the three to take the two bells he kept on his person. Minato often held back less against the prodigious Kakashi than with Rin and Obito so they couldn't obtain the bells without teamwork. Unfortunately, Kakashi realized this, but only used Obito and Rin as a means to an end to obtain the bells. Nonetheless, he passed them because they accomplished the goal of the test by working as a team. Although Minato did encourage them to improve their teamwork afterwards, a message that Obito and Rin took to heart, but fell on deaf ears with Kakashi.

On the teams first major C rank mission, after catching enough cats thanks to Obito. Their team was to safety guard a foreign ninja to the border. While trying to reach their ally, Kakashi runs off after Obito talks about Kakashi's late father. However the team gets attacked by enemy ninja. Kakashi tells Rin to go on ahead while he stalls the enemies. One of theirs escortees, however, is hit, and falls down from a bridge into a river. Reaching near their destination, one of the escortees thanks Rin and Kakashi, but the other two reveal themselves as the traitors and attack their fellow shinobi. Confident that Minato won't be able to reach them in time, the traitors prepare to attack Rin and Kakashi.

After being attacked by the two traitorous escortees, Minato and Obito arrive to back up Rin and Kakashi, but one of the two traitors escapes. The last escortee asks Minato to ensure that the scroll is real, as two of them were given scrolls. It is discovered that the scroll was a fake and the other escortee that fell had the other scroll. Obito immediately leaves to save the escortee and the others reluctantly follow. The escortee is found by enemy shinobi and is attacked; however, Obito and Kakashi arrive in time to save him. In the midst of the struggle, one of the pursuers grabs the scroll and they retreat. Kakashi leaves, claiming that completing the mission is his nindō. He goes after the group and attacks them. But Minato arrives just in time to save Kakashi and Rin and defeats the entire group. Team Minato returns the scroll and completes the mission. However, it is discovered that their team was sent as a decoy and that both scrolls were fake. Another group was charged with delivering the scroll to ensure it wouldn't be stolen by enemy ninja.

During his time as Minato's student, Kakashi and his fellow students became well-acquainted with Minato's wife, Uzumaki Kushina. Growing fond of the young trio, Kushina would regularly help out with their training, most memorable by bringing them homemade food for them. Team Minato would go on many missions during its career, but Kakashi's devotion to the rules often made him difficult to work with; Obito, already jealous of Kakashi's natural talent, was frequently at odds with him about this behavior. At the age of 6, Kakashi became a chunin after facing and defeating Might Guy during the third stage of the Chunin Exams.

Team Minato

When Konoha eventually became embroiled in the Third Shinobi War. As part of the war effort, Team Minato was assigned to destroy the Kannabi Bridge in Kusagakure in order to cut off Iwagakure's supply line. However Minato was needed on the front lines at the time, leaving Kakashi, recently promoted to jonin, in charge. Before embarking on the mission, Minato and Rin gave him presents to celebrate his promotion; Obito forgot to get him anything. Shortly after entering Kusa, they encountered an Iwa-scout, Mahiru. Kakashi tried to eliminate him with his new jutsu, the Chidori, but the attack speed left him vulnerable to counterattack, forcing Minato to step in, save Kakashi, and kill Mahiru himself. Before leaving them, Minato advised Kakashi to not use the Chidori again.

Kakashi, Rin, and Obito continued further in to Kusa. They were eventually found by Mahiru's teammates, Kakkō and Taiseki, who kidnapped Rin in order to find out what their mission was. Obito immediately suggested that they rescue her, but Kakashi insisted that they first complete the mission, by opting to not repeat his father's failure. Obito refused to go along with this and went off to save Rin by himself. Before he left, he told Kakashi that Sakumo had been a hero and that, although it was bad to abandon one's mission, it was worse to abandon one's teammates. Kakashi began carrying out the mission alone, but ultimately decided that Obito was right and went to join him. He arrived in time to save Obito from Taiseki with his White Light Chakra Sabre, in which he inherited from his father.

Taiseki turned invisible and tried launching a sneak attack on Obito. Kakashi protected him, but his left eye was badly damaged in the process. In that moment, Obito awakened his Sharingan and used it to kill Taiseki. They then entered the cave where Rin was being held, drove off Kakkō, and released Rin from the genjutsu he placed her under. Kakkō retaliated by forcing a cave-in and Kakashi, due to his damaged eye, had difficulty avoiding the falling rocks. Before he could be crushed by a large boulder, Obito pushed him out of the way, becoming trapped instead. Unable to get free and knowing his injuries were too serious to survive, Obito decided to make his last act giving Kakashi the present he forgot to give him earlier: his Sharingan to replace the eye Kakashi lost.

After Rin transplanted Obito's Sharingan into him, Kakashi confronted Kakkō. His White Light Chakra Sabre was destroyed during the ensuing fight, but he succeeded in killing Kakkō with Chidori; due to the Sharingan's heightened vision, Kakashi was finally able to handle its speed. He went back to where Obito and Rin were, but Iwa reinforcements soon arrived and started constricting the rubble. Obito asked Kakashi to take Rin away and keep her safe, which Kakashi did, leaving Obito behind. As the Iwa-nin started surrounding them, Kakashi attacked them for as long as he could, holding them off until Minato eventually tracked them down and finished off the rest. Minato assisted them with destroying the Kannabi Bridge and they complete their mission.

At some point during this time, Kakashi signed a summoning contract with the ninken. Later on in the anime, Kakashi and Rin's team was given Guy as a replacement. It was during this mission that Kakashi and Guy found true trust and team-work with each other, and where Kakashi famously split a lightning bolt with his Chidori, by giving birth to its new name the Lightning Cutter. Later on, during another mission, Kakashi met a young girl named Hanare of the Jomae Village who was lost. He taught her about how the clouds can help her find her way and find her teacher. When the Third Shinobi War was finally over, Kakashi alongside Minato and Rin mourned Obito's death once again by attending a funeral for all the victims that were kill. Despite many from the Uchiha clan being against Kakashi wielding a Sharingan as he had no blood-ties to them, Uchiha Fugaku chose to honor Obito's dying actions and let Kakashi keep his gift.

Kakashi accidently kills Rin.

During a later mission, Rin was kidnapped by Kirigakure ninja. Kakashi was eventually able to rescue her and started taking her back to Konoha. Along the way, Rin revealed that Kiri had sealed the Three-Tails into her body with the intention to, once she inevitably lost control of it, have it unleashed on Konoha and destroy the village from within. In order to prevent this from happening, Rin begged Kakashi to kill her, but he refused, unwilling to break his promise to Obito to protect her and hoping to find some other solution. When some Kiri-nin caught up with them and made pretended efforts to retrieve her, Kakashi fought them off with his renamed Chidori, the Lightning Cutter. During one of these attacks, Rin jumped in front of Kakashi's attack, dying by his hand so that Konoha would be safe. The trauma of this caused his Sharingan to evolve into a Mangekyo Sharingan shortly before Kakashi passed out. He was later on found by Konoha reinforcements, but none could explain the slaughter of all the Kiri forces.

Because he'd lost two teammates in such a short timespan, his role in Rin's death, and his failure to honor Obito's last request by protecting her, Kakashi began dropping into a great depression state. In the anime, many believed that he purposely killed Rin to prevent her from leaking information, therefore earning him the nickname "Friend-Killer Kakashi". He would also spend his days avoiding friends and former classmates, and at night he would be haunted by dreams of himself killing Rin again. Minato, the new Fourth Hokage tried to give Kakashi a new direction in life by assigning him to the Anbu.

Eventually, he was promoted again to Anbu captain and leader of Team Ro that responded directly to the Hokage. However, his successes were owed to his cold behavior and his ruthlessness in combat, which were signs that he was still upset by Rin's death.

Kakashi reveals to Rin at her grave that Minato's son, Uzumaki Naruto, would be born.

Later, Kakashi learned from Minato that Kushina was pregnant, and was entrusted to protect her during her jinchuriki-induced ten month pregnancy. Kakashi followed this order very faithfully and never let Kushina out of his sight, constantly monitoring her from the shadows when she was outside, even when she was with Minato. Kakashi would often visit Rin and Obito's respective graves in the Konoha Cemetery and the Memorial Stone, cleaning their tombstones and bringing them flowers. On one such occasion, he visited Rin's grave and told her that their sensei's child would be born soon and left to go to the stone, unaware that Obito was watching him and overheard Kakashi reveal where Kushina would birth to her child. On the night of Kushina's due-date, Kakashi felt an ominous presence in the air. Soon after, Kurama appeared. During the Kyuubi's attack on Konoha, Kakashi and the rest of his peers were barred from participating in defending the village by Yuhi Shinku and other senior shinobi for their own safety as the younger generation.

While Kushina and Minato managed to seal away Kurama, they and many others perished from the attack. After Hiruzen was chosen to resume his duties as Hokage, Shimura Danzo approached a grieving Kakashi. He pointed out that Kakashi was unable to aid his late sensei and possibly save him because of Hiruzen's orders. Convinced in Danzo's reasoning, Kakashi grew to resent Hiruzen and felt that he was not fit to lead the village, deciding to take Danzo's offer to join the Anbu Root division and spy on Hiruzen for Danzo. During a delivery, Kakashi was attacked by a boy codenamed "Kinoe" who could use Hashirama's Wood Release. Danzo broke up the fight, revealing to both they were under his orders. Knowing that only the First Hokage was supposed to have the Wood Release, Kakashi sneaked into the Hokage Residence to investigate. Soon after, Kakashi was approached by Hiruzen. Despite the intrusion, the Third Hokage presented Kakashi with the records of the Wood Release, explaining that in the past it was attempted to recreate the First Hokage's Wood Release, but consistently ended with failure and death of the subjects, ultimately ceasing the research and deeming it forbidden.

Hiruzen also explained that recently, several people, from children to adult, have gone missing with suspicion that someone was resuming the research. He reluctantly expressed that any replication of the Wood Release could have saved the village from the Nine-Tails' attack. Realizing that Hiruzen truly cared for the well-being of the village and that Danzo knowingly kept a valuable asset in the Wood Release child a secret, Kakashi told Hiruzen of Danzo's plan to assassinate the Third before he could resume power. The following day Kakashi went in Hiruzen's place to lure out the assailants, one of which was Kinoe. Kakashi easily defeated him, but chose to spare him, knowing he would be valuable ally in the future. Later that night, Kakashi requested to resign from Anbu, feeling unworthy from have betrayed the Third's trust even once. Hiruzen however insisted that Kakashi's assistance was needed during these time, having said so to Minato himself. Ultimately, Kakashi agreed to stay working as Hiruzen's right-hand man and told him of Kinoe.

Kakashi is unable to stop Orchimaru.

Later, Orochimaru of the Sannin was discovered to be responsible for the disappearance of Konoha citizens and was attempting to escape the country. After Orochimaru escaped the Third Hokage and company's ambush, Kakashi intercepted him as he left his hideout, only to be swiftly outmanoeuvred by the older ninja. Taking advantage of Orochimaru's love of snakes, Kakashi and Hiruzen used a backup plan to let a snake get close enough to Orochimaru and detonate an explosive tag inside its mouth, severely injuring the Sannin. Despite the handicap, the malice in Orochimaru's eyes alone was still enough to freeze Kakashi in his tracks, allowing Orochimaru to escape. After regaining his composure, determined to not let Orochimaru leave the country, Kakashi summoned his ninken to find the missing-nin. Kakashi soon found an underground cave.[43] Once inside, he was attacked by the Iburi clan, loyal servants to Orochimaru. Using their unique ability to become smoke, the clan quickly subdued Kakashi. Kinoe, who was a welcomed guest, convinced them to let Kakashi live so he could interrogate him.

While talking alone, Kinoe revealed that like the Third Hokage, Danzo too viewed Orochimaru as too dangerous to let leave the country. The Iburi leader Gotta, heard this while spying and quickly sought to kill the two Konoha-nin. However, one of the clan members, Yukimi, chose to save Kinoe, and by extension Kakashi, as she was convinced Kinoe was her brother Tenzo. After Yukimi left Kakashi behind to leave with Kinoe, Kakashi found his way outside, but was quickly attacked by Gotta. Ultimately, Gotta's smoke form became his undoing because of his weakness to wind. As he died, he begged Kakashi to get back Yukimi, who was very valuable to Orochimaru. Kakashi soon found Yukimi and Kinoe, telling Kinoe that they needed her to capture Orochimaru. Having grown close to her, Kinoe instead ran away with her. Quickly catching up to them, he explained that Yukimi's blood could bestow Orochimaru with the Iburi clan's smoke transformation, meaning Orochimaru would go to the cave. Overhearing that, Yukimi slipped away and returned to the cave. Recognizing that Kinoe cared for Yukimi like Kakashi did for Rin, the two agreed to work together to save her. Upon the duo returning the cave, Orochimaru killed all the Iburi in his search for Yukimi, finally capturing her. As the cave began to collapse Orochimaru decided to escape, leaving Yukimi as her body then began to destabilise, but the spirits of the Iburi used their power along with Kinoe's Wood Release to re-stabilise Yukimi, finally allowing her to enter the world without fear of the wind. Kakashi decided to leave and not report anything about the Iburi or Root's involvement.

Kakashi is seriously angry after Kinoe accused him of killing Rin.

Over the years, Kakashi became well-known amongst all the Five Great Shinobi Countries for the extensive use of his Sharingan, gaining him a reputation as "the man who has copied over a thousand techniques", hence his nickname. Three years after Orochimaru's defection from Konoha, one of his secret labs was discovered. Knowing the potential traps inside, Hiruzen sent Kakashi to investigate. There, he met up with Kinoe again, who was on a mission of his own. Inside the lab, as Kakashi found to his horror some kind of snake creature, Kinoe attacked Kakashi, as his mission was to retrieve Kakashi's Sharingan for Danzo. As Kakashi tried to reason with Kinoe, saying that missions should never overshadow loyalty to a friend, Kinoe retorted this, noting that Kakashi killed Rin. Enraged by that remark, Kakashi quickly overpowered Kinoe. Still viewing Kinoe as a friend and ally to the village, Kakashi chose to bring Kinoe to the Third Hokage.

Before he could, one of Orochimaru's snake experiments escaped its test tube and attacked the duo. As Kinoe was taken captive, Kakashi managed to slay the creature. While saving Kinoe, the creature's corpse began emitting a poisonous vapour which quickly infected Kakashi. Kinoe got Kakashi out safely and, having accepting Kakashi's words, Kinoe gave Kakashi an antidote and chose to abandoned his mission. After Kakashi regained consciousness, reading Kinoe's letter, he realized Danzo would not tolerate insubordination, Kakashi quickly went to the Third Hokage for help. Giving Kakashi a summon request to be delivered to Danzo, he went to Root headquarters, where the guards claimed Danzo was somewhere else. Not believing them, Kakashi used his Sharingan to learn Kinoe was taken to be implanted with a cursed seal. Kakashi quickly found Kinoe and freed him, only to be surrounded by Danzo and his men. Before Danzo could execute Kakashi on the grounds of trespassing, Hiruzen arrived to vouch for Kakashi coming. Sparing Kakashi of any punishment, Hiruzen turned his attention to Kinoe and convinced Danzo to turn him over to his direct command. Later, Kakashi welcomed Kinoe to his squad, insisting that Kinoe now go by his chosen name of "Tenzo", which he happily agreed to.

Kakashi tells Itach to honor a friend's request.

Three years later, Uchiha Itachi, another prodigy even younger than Kakashi was at the time, joined Anbu as part of Kakashi's team. While Kakashi's men doubted letting such a young child join, Kakashi noted Itachi's exceptional capabilities. Later, Kakashi and Itachi were assigned to a mission of observing a meeting between Konoha and the Land of Woods. They were tasked to kill the Land of Woods' Prajna Group if they betrayed the Konoha-nin after an exchange of scrolls was made. When the Wood-nin revealed their treachery, Kakashi and Itachi swiftly defeated them. Afterwards, Kakashi congratulated Itachi for his excellent performance. Also watching Itachi's merciless approach made Kakashi realize the dark side of being in Anbu, such as telling the young Uchiha the importance of friends.

Two years later, Kakashi and Itachi were assigned to spy on the Uchiha clan under the continued suspicion that they played a part in the Nine-Tails' attack years ago. Later, during another Anbu mission, Itachi approached his senior, asking his opinion on honoring a dead friend's request, to which Kakashi firmly say one should always do so.

Kakashi wondering what he could have done to save Itachi before the entire Uchiha clan was murder by the latter.

Later, when Itachi was promoted to an Anbu captain himself, the youngest in history, Kakashi openly congratulated his former subordinate. He was quickly met up with by Uzuki Yugao. As Kakashi was already her senior and mentor, Yugao was thrilled to announce that she was the new replacement for Team Ro and working with Kakashi. Afterwards, Kakashi was called upon the Third Hokage to look into the repeated infiltration of Konoha by an unknown individual without setting off the village barrier warning. Kakashi was given the locations of key points that erected the barrier in hopes of finding any weaknesses or changes. While sent as a non-Anbu, once looking within the Uchiha district, Kakashi quickly realized the disdain the entire district had for him, a non-Uchiha. Later, Team Ro was mobilized to the Uchiha District, under orders to pacify the Uchiha before civil war could happen. Kakashi was shocked to discover the complete annihilation of the proud clan, save for its youngest member, Uchiha Sasuke. Danzo then appeared, explaining that Itachi had long since begun to despise his clan, even taking the late Uchiha Shisui's Sharingan in a pursuit of greater power, and ultimately decided to kill the clan off. Horrified to hear what his friend did, Kakashi began to lament at his inability to help Itachi avoid such an outcome.

Later, feeling similar regret to Itachi's recent actions and that it was a mistake to put a kind heart like Itachi's in Anbu, a remorseful Hiruzen called upon Kakashi. While applauding Kakashi for his superb work in Anbu over the past ten years, Hiruzen decided to relieve Kakashi of any further service, fearing that Kakashi's heart would only darken from the experience, and was instead appointed as a jonin sensei. Kakashi would go on to test many genin but would never pass any of them due to their inability to live up to his expectations of working as a team. In the anime, this stemmed from the shame of him never having shown true team-work with his own rookie team. He would use various methods to test true loyalty and cooperation between his students, constantly showing no signs of doing so. When Kakashi began to doubt his methods as Minato himself overlooked Kakashi's original lack of team-work, several of Kakashi's former potential students began to prosper from his actions, showing true loyalty to their allies as Kakashi originally intended, thanking Kakashi for his help. Kakashi was happy his students learned to value team-work, reaffirming his faith in his methods.

Iruka thanks Kakashi for saving him, and Naruto.

In the anime, he once had a mission where Umino Iruka, his team-mate at the time, was injured and became an instructor at the Ninja Academy. When Iruka was having doubts at being assigned to be the home room teacher of Uzumaki Naruto, Kakashi served to remind him of his real reasons for wanting the post in the first place. When Kakashi found out from Nara Shikamaru and Akimichi Choji that Iruka went looking for Naruto in the back hill, he was shock. Not wanting his late sensei's son to get kill at a young age like Rin and Obito did, Kakashi went after them, and save them just in time from the three female enemy ninja. After he defeated the three enemy ninja, Iruka thanked him for saving them. Kakashi told Iruka that he would have still protected Naruto without his help, and Iruka told Kakashi that he finally understood what he told him from their earlier conversation. Iruka told him that he was trying to avoid Naruto all along, but now he will be upfront and strict with the young boy for now on; in order to train him to become a fine shinobi. Kakashi than wished Iruka good luck on the task of being Naruto's first teacher, to which Iruka thanked him for.

Personality

Since his early childhood, Kakashi Hatake was very independent and self confident, at times even appearing arrogant and condescending. Despite that, Kakashi was very perceptive and intuitive, quickly realizing the situation for what it was. After his father's death, Kakashi became more stern, aloof and cold toward others, following all the rules to the letter, chastising any who disobeyed them and willing to abandon his comrades to finish missions.

As an adult, Kakashi typically has a relaxed and almost bored attitude, not prone to getting too worked up about anything or by anyone. Despite his increasingly growing reputation and prowess as a ninja, Kakashi has shown no signs of arrogance, and is rather modest about his abilities. He is habitually tardy, showing up when it suits him, using excuses that convince nobody, and later leaving for equally poor reasons. Though Kakashi wants others to believe this is how he always acts, he only does so for matters that aren't of particular importance. His naturally calm attitude is used to his advantage in battle, as it becomes easier for him to maintain his composure and stay focused on the situation at hand, and notice everything around him. As a result, he can quickly adjust to any situation to make keen and thought-out decisions, allowing him to stay steps ahead of his opponents. Despite his usually stoic demeanor, Kakashi does have an emotional side, as he noted during the Fourth Shinobi War that it took a lot to get him worked up, but when he did, he would go on a merciless rampage against the enemy.

It was the lose of Team Minato that changed Kakashi for the better. The Chidori that he originally created simply as a weapon became a tool he would only use to protect his comrades. He expects his prospective students to demonstrate this same devotion to teamwork. Despite the high failure rate, the Third Hokage agrees with Kakashi's choice to require it. Kakashi becomes fond of all Team 7's members, but mostly Naruto; since he sees himself and Obito in the young shinobi. He also sees his self in Uchiha Sasuke, as he blames himself for Sasuke's criminal acts and his team's growing rift throughout Part II. He holds out hope that Sasuke will correct his behavior, and for his patience he is able to see Team 7 reunified when Part II ends.

When he first meets his students on Team 7, Kakashi claims to have many hobbies, none of which he chooses to share at the time. He is known to be an avid fan of the Icha Icha series of novels; he always has one of the books with him and regularly reads it, even while talking to others. Uzumaki Naruto identifies Icha Icha as one of Kakashi's few weaknesses, which he is able to take advantage of during a bell test by threatening to spoil the ending of the newest book in the series, forcing Kakashi to shut his eyes and ears and thereby leave himself vulnerable. Although most people he knows are aware of how much he likes Icha Icha, Kakashi is seemingly uncomfortable sharing the books with others, growing embarrassed by the presumably adult content when he is forced to read passages aloud.

One of Kakashi's most significant bonds is the one he has with his team-mate, Uchiha Obito. An orphan, Obito spent his life alone in much the same way that Kakashi did after his father's suicide. Despite this similar background, he withdrew inwards, focusing on himself. Whereas Obito looked outwards, seeking others. Such differences within such similarities made Kakashi the best student in their Ninja Academy class and Obito the worst student become rivals. The fact that Obito died saving him, made him realize that, as with his father, Obito has always been his better, always been a model to live up to. Obito's supposed death had a huge impact on Kakashi's personality, adopting many of his friend's cheerful mannerisms such as believing goals can be accomplished more effectively together, asking for help when he needs it, providing help when it is requested of him, and praising allies when they deserve it. Even thinking about teamwork and the lives of your comrades are more important. He has also developed a somewhat carefree personality and is regularly late for appointments, making obvious excuses just like Obito before him.

In truth, this is often because he lose the track of time, spending hours visiting Rin's grave or the Memorial Stone where Obito's name is engraved. He tells them about his life, recent events in Konoha, and others they knew, but mostly he shares his regrets that they cannot be with him or that their deaths were his fault.

During the Fourth Shinobi War, Kakashi was horrified at the fact that Tobi was actually his thought to be deceased comrade Obito, to the point that he became momentarily depressed and no longer reacted to what was occurring on the battlefield. Despite this, Kakashi was eventually able to snap out of this state with a new found resolve to protect Naruto, and showed Obito no mercy on the battlefield despite their past friendship.

Later on this turned out to only extend to non-lethal attacks, as Obito noted that Kakashi has been hesitating to kill him the entire time they've been fighting, showing that he still cares deeply about his friend and continues his attempts to reason with him. But soon, Kakashi comes to the realization that in order to protect Naruto and preserve the memories of how Obito was, he would have to kill the current one. At the end of the war, Obito apologizes for everything he did when he was alive, but Kakashi states that he's glad they rekindled their friendship before the end.

Nohara Rin, a fellow member of Team Minato, had the same infatuation on Kakashi that most other girls in their Ninja Academy class had. Unlike her peers, Rin is able to spend time around him because of Team Minato's missions, causing her feelings to develop into true love. Although it is unknown whether Kakashi reipocerated Rin's romantic feelings, he nevertheless cared deeply for her. After Rin died, Kakashi went through a period of post-traumatic stress disorder, having nightmares about her death and growing depressed whenever others mentioned her. Over time, Kakashi comes to accept that Rin chose to die, so his guilt instead becomes about his broken promise to Obito to keep Rin safe. This fact causes Obito's death to weigh more heavily on him, compounding the regret he feels about what his personality was even hours before Obito died: selfish, condescending, and far too concerned about following the rules. Kakashi feels that, had he cared about teamwork and friendship in the same way that Obito did, Obito and Rin's death might have been avoided. Thinking it would ease his pain, Minato convinced Kakashi to join the Anbu. During his time in the Anbu however, Kakashi gained a reputation for his cold-bloodedness, mercilessly killing a shinobi impersonating an Iwa shinobi instead of sparing him for interrogation. His bitterness at losing Rin also made Kakashi easier to be manipulate by Danzo into betraying the Third Hokage, claiming he was responsible for the deaths of his team.

Maito Gai has considered Kakashi as his rival ever since they first met in the Ninja Academy. Despite his father's warning that Guy might someday prove stronger than him, Kakashi didn't think much of Guy at the time. Guy took this as a challenge and began striving to earn Kakashi's approval so as to show that his perseverance could be just as good as Kakashi's natural genius. When Guy would suggest contests to test how their abilities compared, Kakashi would respond with indifference, only fueling Guy's desire to defeat his "cool, hip, and trendy" personality. At the start of Part I, Kakashi's score is 50 wins and 49 losses, even though when Guy takes the lead the score difference remains the same; considering that their competitions range from eating contests to Rock, Paper, Scissors, the score isn't truly representative of anything. Kakashi eventually comes to consider Guy one of his closest and most reliable friends, and by the end of the Fourth Shinobi War he acknowledges that Guy has surpassed him.

He didn't like the new generation since they lack the motivation to train hard and to graduate from the Ninja Academy. He also didn't like how Boruto was mean when he kept wondering if Naruto had taught him shadow clones and when saw how much Naruto was in Boruto. Like Naruto, he also hates it when Boruto calls him old man, and prefers to be call by his Hokage title. However he enjoys being around Mirai because she reminds him so much about Asuma. He also tells her stories about Asuma that no one didn't tell her yet.

Appearance

Kakashi Hatake is a light fair skinned, fit and relatively tall shinobi. He has spiky white hair (silver in the anime), and has dark-colored eyes. His left eye — which has since been replaced by a Sharingan — has a vertical scar running over it. It has yet to be revealed why Kakashi, even at a young age, wore his face mask. In the few instances that Kakashi is seen without his mask, it has been seen that he has a narrow jaw-line; in these instances the parts of his face normally covered by his mask are obstructed from view. In the anime, it is strongly suggested that he is in fact very handsome, as seen from Teuchi and Ayame's reaction to seeing his face. He was once mistaken by Chiyo for his father Sakumo Hatake, whom he greatly resembles, despite most of his face being obscured. Kakashi's personality is further emphasised by his generally lazy expression, aloof manner, relaxed voice, and minimalist attitude. In serious situations, however, he is shown to have a very stern and intense look. Another noticeable feature to Kakashi, other than his unique left eye, is the thin scar running over it and down to his cheek.

As a child, prior to obtaining his Sharingan, Kakashi wore a simple black outfit with the lower-half of his face concealed. He also wore a scarf with a simple design running along its length to the entrance ceremony, which he would later swap out for a plain, green one. As a genin, he wore another simple black outfit along with an open-front apron around his waist and fish-net armour around his ankles. During his early missions as a jonin, he wore a black T shirt with white stripes in the middle of the sleeves. On his arms he wears black sleeves with metal arm protectors over them. He also has leather straps around his back and chest, and his family's White Light Chakra Sabre is kept in a small holder out in the back. He also wore pants similar to the ones he wears today. He appears to wear the same type of outfit as a child (as seen in a flashback). However, in another flashback he is shown wearing a sleeveless black shirt similar to one he sometimes wears as an adult. This type of shirt is presumably for casual wear.

While an ANBU member, Kakashi wore the standard uniform which consisted of a simple blue suit with the standard flak jacket, strapped up sandals, and arm guards. Along with this he wore plated gloves that went all the way up to his arms with a bandage wrapped around the right one. Along with this he carried a sword strapped to his back and his mask was fashioned to resemble a dog's face with red and black markings around the eyes, sides and mouth. In addition, Kakashi has the ANBU tattoo on his left shoulder, and didn't wear a forehead protector during his time at ANBU. In the anime, after becoming an ANBU captain, he also wore a brown cloak over his uniform.

When he joined the regular forces Kakashi once again donned the standard attire of the forces and he began wearing shorter metal-plated gloves. He also wears his forehead protector on a simple blue band, tilted to the left to cover the Sharingan, and a mask which obscures the lower-half of his face, only revealing his left eye when ready to use it. He also wears a chain necklace.

He also wears his forehead protector on a simple blue band, tilted to the left to cover the Sharingan, which along with the mask obscuring all by his right eye, only revealing his left eye when ready to use it. During the Fourth Shinobi War, Kakashi's Sharingan was stolen by Uchiha Madara. Shortly afterwards, Naruto, using the Yang powers he obtained from Otsutsuki Hagoromo, restored Kakashi's original left eye.

Kakashi - The Last

Kakashi after the war

Two years after the Fourth Shinobi War, his appearance remains essentially the same, with the addition of him now wearing his forehead protect normally above both his eyes. However, his boots now reach his calves and his flack jacket is changed to a simple chest-guard that has clipped-on shoulder pads with high-collars and a dark blue strap across his waist. In addition, he wears a red armband with an Uzumaki crest over his left bicep. After becoming the Sixth Hokage, Kakashi would also at times wear the official uniform. This outfit consists of the customary white triangular hat with a veil covering his the back and sides of his head. He also wears the white haori, along with a red, full-length kimono that is tied using a white sash. On the backside of his robe, Kakashi has the kanji for Sixth Hokage (六代目火影) written vertically.

Some time after stepping down as the Hokage, Kakashi wears a green-colored variant of his previous chest guard, and has seemingly stopped wearing a headband. He gains slight eye wrinkles, further increasing his resemblance to his father.

Abilities

Kakashi was noted by Jiraiya and Tsunade as one of Konoha's strongest ninja ever produced. Hailed as a prodigy from a young age, he rose rapidly through the ninja ranks, and fought back an entire squad of elite ninja. He is given crucial tasks, such as retaining the Nine-Tails' seal in Naruto. His various feats have made him renown within the ninja world, and most enemies become afraid or excited to fight him. S-rank shinobi recognise Kakashi as a dangerous opponent to fight alone; even Pain, the Akatsuki leader, viewed him as a major threat. His skills and power allowed him to defeat S-rank shinobis as dangerous as Zabuza and Kakuzu. Also he was able to stand up to Kakuzu and even hold his own against Pain. During the Fourth Shinobi War, he defeated several famous reincarnated ninja, pressured multiple "Version 2" state jinchuriki, and fought evenly with and eventually beat the adult Obito, who gained comparable prowess to Uchiha Madara. After obtaining both the Sharingan and the Six Paths Power from Obito, he could threaten and harm Otsutsuki Kaguya, an essential-god. Despite losing his Sharingan, Kakashi still became the Sixth Hokage, which he was considered for years to become.

Chakra

Kakashi has very strong chakra, such that it becomes visible when moulded. Before entering the Ninja Academy, he could already perform very chakra-taxing techniques. Despite its natural strength, Kakashi himself admits that his chakra reserves and stamina were only average, as he would quickly suffer physical exhaustion and debilitation from overusing his Sharingan and can only use his Lightning Cutter only four times a day, although it was still considerably large and noticably more so than Sasuke, as the latter could only use Chidori 2 times. He also had enough chakra to be able to keep the Sharingan active for several minutes in a strenuous battle with shinobi as dangerous and skilled as Zabuza. In addition, his very refined chakra control allowed him to use techniques to their highest level with only the minimum necessary chakra, therefore effectively compensating for this. He could also perform techniques with few to no hand seals.

In Part II, Kakashi's dramatically improved chakra levels allowed him to maintain his Sharingan for an entire day and quickly utilize several chakra-taxing techniques unfazed, including his Lightning Cutter at least six times. His Chakra reserves has only continued to grow as the series passed on, shown most notably with his Kamui technique, as he originally could only use it three times before being left crippled for over a week, but by the time of the Fourth Shinobi War, he could fight throughout an entire day before using Kamui multiple times in quick succession among other chakra-taxing techniques in the war's climax. After receiving both the Sharingan and the Six Paths Power from Obito, Kakashi's chakra reserves became great enough to manifest a Complete Body — Susanoo and use Kamui multiple times with no signs of fatigue. It can also augment his techniques.

Taijutsu

Kakashi is very adept in taijutsu. As a child, he could hold his own against Minato and even touch one of his bells. As his skill and experience grew, he defeated several adult elite ninja. His skills improved considerably as an adult, able to easily defeat hundreds of enemies with a well coordinated attack pattern. His Taijutsu skills are even great enough to rival Maito Gai, who was an extremely skilled taijutsu master, with him once defeating Guy in Chunnin Exams. Likewise, Kakashi acquired great skill in Guy's Strong Fist-style and several of its techniques, enough to train others in its usage effectively, as shown when he did so with Sasuke, greatly refining the latter's use of the Strong Fist-style. He can also open at least one of the Eight Gates, and use advanced techniques derived from it with no signs of fatigue.

Kakashi's raw strength is notably high, able to clash with the physically strong Momochi Zabuza and his heavy Kubikiribocho, a weapon he easily wielded later. He could also simultaneously throw Naruto and Sasuke a large distance away with little effort and snap Nagato's chakra receiver with his barehand. He also has high durability and endurance, able to survive Nagato's point-blank Shinra Tensei with little damage and continue fighting afterwards.

Kakashi has impressive speed, able to easily outpace his friends ever since childhood. As an adult, he can intercept an opponent faster than unfocused eyes can follow even from a distance. His speed allows him to effectively catch his opponents off-guard to quickly strike them down, and combined with his great stealth skill, makes him able to silently sneak-up completely unnoticed on highly experienced assassins, making him prime to strike. His speed increased considerably in Part II, able to match Itachi, who he had trouble keeping up previously. During the Fourth Shinobi War, he could keep pace with a dojutsu-bearing Version 2 jinchuriki, and even Guy using six of the Eight Gates. Kakashi could even blitz and nearly sever Kaguya's arm in one move, despite having her multiple dojutsu active. Likewise, he has considerable hand seal prowess, able to perform them at highly difficult speeds to follow. He has also shown remarkable reflexes, able to instantly react and effectively manoeuvre out of surreal danger.

Ninjutsu

Kakashi primarily relies on his mastery of ninjutsu, possessing both great skill and otherwise knowledge. His proficiency allows him to use multiple techniques at once in unison with the other to dangerous affect. During his childhood, he demonstrated advanced ninjutsu prowess before even entering the Ninja Academy. Over the years, due in part to his Sharingan, he gained a vast arsenal of to use; being noted to have copied over a thousand techniques. With this arsenal, he can handle his situations in numerous manners. While a student under Minato, Kakashi learned how to use the Rasengan among other things.

Bukijutsu

Kakashi is a highly-skilled user in a large variety of weapons such as bows and arrows, kusarigama, chains, wire strings and others. Since his early childhood, Kakashi had highly proficient skill in kenjutsu, able to wield his father's signature tantō effectively enough to be mistaken for Sakumo. Due to his Anbu background, his sword skill especially improved and became very adaptable, able to effectively use the Kubikiribocho, a blade of unique shape with noticeable size and weight, to defeat kenjutsu specialists like the Seven Mist Swordsmen. His skill in shurikenjutsu is considerable, able to pin down an opponent with a quick barrage of kunai and even effectively launch kunai with a well-placed kick. At close range, he has great dexterity, simultaneously wielding one in each hand. Kakashi has enough skill in using Kunai in melee combat, that he can use a single Kunai with enough effiency to even contend with skilled melee-fighters such as Momochi Zabuza, and Hidan armed with their respective unique weapons. He can also apply this skill to his Susanoo.

Genjutsu

Kakashi is highly proficient in genjutsu, able to stalemate the adult Obito, a potent genjutsu user comparable to Uchiha Shisui in a genjutsu battle. Normally, he use this skill as a set-up for stronger attacks. His skill is able to easily deceive most opponents with well-timed diversions, giving them little chance to counter. During the bell test for Team 7, Kakashi was able to use low-level techniques to easily subdue a keen-minded and natural genjutsu-type like Sakura. Against most high-level techniques, he has advanced knowledge of their working, and is able to dispel genjutsu as well.

Nature Transformation

Kakashi can use all five basic nature transformations, along with Yin Release and Yang Release, with great skill. He has a natural affinity for Lightning Release, which he mastered at a young age and since has become synonymous with the element, and has developed a wide variety of lightning-oriented techniques. He can also enhance his weapons by channelling lightning-natured chakra through them, enough to pierce clean through large rocks.

After learning the Rasengan but failing to combine it with his own nature transformation, Kakashi used the same theoretical principle to create the Chidori, and the stronger Lightning Cutter. While normally in close-range in the anime, Kakashi can disperse this technique to stun his enemies from a distance. Also with this technique along with a shadow clone he can create a lightning chain to increase his attack range to even cut through a "Version 2" jinchuriki's chakra arms. Utilizing the Six Paths power, Kakashi is able to enhance his Lighting Cutter, producing a black and more powerful variation of it strong enough to damage the likes of Kaguya. After losing his Sharingan, no longer able to properly use the Lightning Cutter, Kakashi developed the Lightning Release: Purple Electricity to compensate.

His prowess with Water Release are equal to specialists as skilled, as Kisame and Zabuza. He can even perform these techniques without a nearby water source. In the anime, he can produce a vision-impairing thick mist, able to negate most genjutsu while he can effectively manoeuvre himself through. His Earth Release prowess lets him move fast and unnoticed underground or quickly produce large and intricate earthen walls. He showed similar proficiency to this element before entering the Ninja Academy as he could already move the ground. In the anime, he has also shown considerable skill in Fire Release, producing a massive fireball that greatly damaged the area. In addition, he is knowledgeable enough to train others in Wind Release.

Summoning Technique

Kakashi's Ninken

Kakashi can summon a pack of ninja hounds of various breeds. Much like his combat skills, his use of these summons is highly versatile, ranging from attacking and restraining his opponents. He can combine his Summoning Technique and his Earth Release skills to have his hounds burrow and erupt from the ground in order to help subdue his enemies. Aside from combat purposes, Kakashi's pack is also highly skilled in tracking down targets, and delivering messages.

Sharingan

1622155 744103538948098 659132584 n

Kakashi's Sharingan

Kakashi's most distinguishing ability was his Sharingan, which was given to him by Uchiha Obito to replace his own damaged left eye. Kakashi has gained much worldwide fame and recognition his usage of its various abilities given him the nickname Kakashi of the Sharingan (写輪眼のカカシ). He had especially high skill and strength in its usage even compared to most true Sharingan wielders as noted by various prominent Uchiha. Likewise, he was selected to develop both Sasuke and Itachi's own Sharingan. Kakashi has been noted to have copied over one thousand jutsu with his Sharingan, also becoming known as the Copy Ninja (コピー忍者). Kakashi could perform debilitating genjutsu with simple eye contact and even battle back an adult Obito through a repeated stalemate of illusionary fighting. The Sharingan also granted Kakashi advanced analysis of the environment, and predicting his opponent's next move. With his heightened visual perception to his surroundings, Kakashi was able to perfect his Chidori and the Lightning Cutter with no fear of blindsides.

When he first received it, Kakashi's Sharingan only had two tomoe. Later, the traumatic loss of Nohara Rin at his own hand caused Kakashi's Sharingan to fully mature. Because he is not an Uchiha clan member, Kakashi was unable to deactivate this dojutsu. This forced him keep it covered when not needed as it also consumed much greater chakra reserves than an Uchiha, leaving him bedridden if overused. Because of this, Kakashi only relied on it when absolute necessary. In Part I, he could only handle using it for a short while in battle before suffering somewhat crippling effects and severe fatigue. In Part II, his efficiency with maintaining it greatly increased, able to use it for seemingly an entire day without any adverse effects.

During the Fourth Shinobi War, Madara stole Kakashi's Sharingan. After Obito died with both his original eyes, he used Kamui to briefly return to the living world. Entering Kakashi's subconscious, he transferred his chakra and both Sharingans to Kakashi, whose left eye had been restored by Naruto. Manifesting both Sharingans, he could use their power to the full potential. With the Six Paths Chakra Obito transferred to Kakashi, the Sharingan's power was further increased. After Obito departed for the Pure Land, his Sharingan faded from Kakashi's eyes.

Mangekyo Sharingan

1239744 578606162207965 1709270703 n

Kakashi awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan for the first time.

Originally, Kakashi awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan in his left eye after accidentally killing Rin. Its design is three stretched triangles spaced around the pupil that each curve at the top around the eye to form a circle, making it similar to a pinwheel. After Kakashi lost the transplanted eye, Obito transferred his full dojutsu's power into Kakashi, and with it the ability to manifest the Mangekyo Sharingan in both his original eyes. With this dojutsu, Kakashi can perform the Kamui, a space-time technique that sends targets to another dimension and also brings them back; even transporting them to a new location.

Each eye possesses a different variation of Kamui. With his left eye, Kakashi could create a barrier from a distance to warp targets within his line of sight. While initially having difficulty to accurately hit moving targets, his skill and aim would later improve greatly. He could successfully warp small, fast-moving, or multiple targets in rapid succession, or even much larger targets as to behead the massive Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, failing only because of Obito's intervention. His new finesse also allowed him to safely warp chakra-based techniques, like the Rasengan or shadow clones at such speed to fool others into believing the techniques were dispelled. Ultimately Obito the originator of Kakashi's technique, openly acknowledged Kakashi's great skill with Kamui. After learning of the connection between both eyes, Kakashi could later teleport himself with the left eye, and precisely choose a location to return to.

With his right eye, Kakashi can perform the short-ranged Kamui. With it, akin to intangibility, Kakashi can overlap any and all parts of his body with Kamui's dimension, making all other targets seamlessly pass through him and leaving him completely unharmed. When used in conjunction with offensive techniques, Kakashi can allow portioned parts of his body to remain tangible, while the rest intangible, to remove nearly all risk of counter-attacks. He is also very knowledgeable of the other Mangekyo Sharingan techniques, as well as the risks the dōjutsu poses to the user's eyesight.

From manifesting the Mangekyo form in each of his own eyes, Kakashi also became able to perform Susanoo. While just recently obtained, Kakashi could fully manifest it and "stabilize" it into its Complete Body form. In this form, it is able to fly and despite its immense size, has enough dexterity to carefully hold someone in its hand and move about extremely fast. When needed, Susanoo can carry others inside it alongside Kakashi. It can also manifest a sword or shuriken, able to use the latter in unison with Kamui to warp whatever targets they hit to another location.

Because he is not an Uchiha clan member, Kakashi's chakra requirements for his Mangekyō techniques is considerably higher, and initially he had to be hospitalised for a week after using it three times in one day. By the time of the Fourth Shinobi War, Kakashi's mastery could use it five times, three of which in quick succession (along with multiple other chakra-taxing techniques) and still had enough strength left to fight and use it at least a few more times. Even after just starting to experience the immediate side effects, Kakashi quickly recovered from them somewhat. At the same time, the repeated use of Kamui strained Kakashi's Sharingan, ultimately causing it to bleed and temporarily blur his sight, requiring him to get closer for better aim. After gaining the ability to manifest the Sharingan within his own eyes and some of the Six Paths power, Kakashi no longer showed any visible burden on his body or chakra reserves from using the Kamui, allowing him to perform the technique multiple times with no apparent problems.

Intelligence

Repeatedly, Kakashi has proven to be a very shrewd and resourceful man, regularly having his opinion asked for by Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage. While still a young child, Kakashi's instincts could detect a hiding enemy's presence, impressing his sensei, Namikaze Minato, and in the anime deceive Orochimaru, greatly injuring the Sannin in the process. Kakashi has even been noted to be smarter than Nara Shikamaru, a ninja well-known for his insightful and calculating nature. Kakashi is noted to be very persuasive speaker, though his arguments are more of a logical nature. He is very capable in deception, regularly using his opponents' own tactics against them. He is also adept at discerning the emotional nature of people and determining the source of their emotions. Kakashi has undeniable perceptive and analytical skills, able to quickly and single-handedly deduce the workings of the most mysterious enemy techniques and near instantly plot successful diversions in order to verify his theories (most of the time proving them correct). He is aided, in this regard, by his calm personality, which allows him to handle a given situation with some detachment.

His long career as a jonin, and formerly as an Anbu, have only expanded his knowledge, allowing him to handle virtually any situation. For these reasons Kakashi has been assigned to a variety of teams — always as the leader — and he is always able to work well with his team-mates. Akimichi Choza attributes Kakashi's success to his approach to battles: he avoids direct combat by using misdirection and clones until he can determine the opponent's skills, at which point he modifies his tactics to fit the situation. Kakashi's leadership abilities were even acknowledged by Otsutsuki Hagoromo. Kakashi has also shown repeatedly to be a highly capable teacher. He has come up with various unorthodox methods to help his students produce impressive leaps in their abilities in weeks what would normally take months if not years of intense training.

Other Skills

A man who epitomises versatility, Kakashi's expertise is not limited to the three major ninja skill sets; he is renowned for his tracking abilities and has otherwise displayed proficiency with trap-making, medical, survival, escapism, stealth, subterfuge, and assassination. Kakashi is also noted to have a better sense of smell than Inuzuka Kiba in Part I, a noteworthy member of a clan with canine-like senses. Even without sight, Kakashi is still a highly formidable fighter, able to use his other senses and knowledge of his surroundings, allies, and enemies to perceive the situation and overwhelm his opponents. He has also developed considerable prowess in fuinjutsu and likewise understanding of juinjutsu, which impressed Orochimaru given Kakashi's age. Even without the Transformation Technique, Kakashi is highly skilled in disguise. Able effectively alter his appearance with simple cosmetics and such, he can spend extended periods of time with people close to him while remaining undiscovered.

Naruto (Part I)

Introduction arc

224342

Team Kakashi

Kakashi later learned of his next potential Team 7 — which consisted of Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura. In the anime he visited their homes accompanied by Hiruzen. Kakashi was chosen specifically by Sarutobi Hiruzen to be the leader of Team 7 because of Naruto and Sasuke. Kakashi's duty in addition to training the team was also to keep the Nine-Tails in Naruto contained. As for Sasuke, Kakashi was tasked with ensuring the rage-filled ninja does not tread a dark path plus to help him awaken and master his Sharingan, since they had similar traits that would allow Kakashi to better understand him. Kakashi questioned Hiruzen about the nature of his team, who voiced his belief that Kakashi could help them understand true team-work. Kakashi also met with Tenzo, who noted a positive change in Kakashi and reminded his senior he was late to meet his new students.

Soon afterwards, the members of Team 7, after a long wait, finally met their jonin-sensei. As the team's first order of business, Kakashi had them introduce themselves to him by saying their name, interests, distastes, hobbies, and goals.Kakashi went first, and said he didn't feel like telling them anything about himself.

During the test, each of the young ninja try their own methods to getting a bell, only for Kakashi to easily defeat them. After Team 7 failed their test, Kakashi was quick to express his displeasure at their performance and that true goal was team-work. After explaining the importance of team-work and seeing how ashamed they were at their performance, Kakashi decided to give Team 7 one more chance to act as a team, and let them take a break for lunch. However, Naruto, having earlier tried to steal their lunches, was forbidden to eat with a severe penalty for anybody feeding him. When he watches Sasuke and Sakura giving Naruto their food to have him in peak condition from afar, Kakashi immediately confronted them while feigning anger. Delighted as they defiantly stand up to him on the grounds that they are a team, Kakashi passes them on the ground they placed loyalty amongst comrades first.

Land of Waves arc

After completing a number of easy D-rank missions, Team 7, at Naruto's insistence get assigned a somewhat more difficult C-rank task of escorting the bridge-builder Tazuna to the Land of Waves. Noticing they were about to be ambushed en route by the Demon Brothers, Kakashi faked his death to determine if their target was his team or Tazuna. Easily defeated them upon seeing them attempt to kill the bridge builder, Kakashi realised that Tazuna has not been completely honest of the mission and threatens Tazuna to tell them the truth. After hearing Tazuna's goal to build a bridge to free his country from the tyranny of Gatō, despite the mission now being more of an A-rank or B-rank, Kakashi decides for his group to remain until the bridge was complete.

Upon arriving in the Land of Waves, Team 7 was attacked by Momochi Zabuza, a missing-nin of Kirigakure and former Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist member who is under Gatō's employment. Despite his Sharingan, combined with his need to protect his students from the more experienced ninja, Kakashi finds himself trapped in a water prison. Luckily, Naruto and Sasuke orchestrate a gambit to free him. From there, using both his Sharingan and psychological warfare, Kakashi placed Zabuza at a disadvantage until a young Kirigakure hunter-nin named Haku stepped in and appeared to kill Zabuza before dragging him away for disposal. They then went to his daughter's house, where they met his daughter, Tsunami and her son, Inari. Although Naruto disliked Inari, because of his rude attitude While forced to recuperate from his Sharingan overuse, Kakashi was bed ridden. Kakashi realizes that Haku might have faked Zabuza's death to save him, deciding to train Team 7 in perfecting their chakra control for a week until they can resume bodyguard duty. Kakashi realized that Sakura was great at Chakra control, but was even more impress when he sees Naruto asking advice on the topic. He feels happy that Naruto is improving more to be a better Ninja. He was even more surprise that Naruto and Sasuke finally complete the training. Naruto then told Inari off, after he tells team 7 that Gato will kill them. Naruto told Inari that he can cry and complain all he wants, and calls him a crybaby. Sakura then scolded him, while he left the kitchen. Kakashi then told Inari about Naruto's past, and said that even though Naruto had a horrible past. Naruto tried to stop crying for good. Instead he try to improve his ninja skills to be seen as a better person, and to be acknowledged by Konoha. Inari started to respect Naruto more, since he found out that he and him are similar.

Once at the bridge, Kakashi's suspicions are confirmed when Team 7 is confronted by Zabuza and Haku. While their wards battle, Kakashi once more battles Zabuza as he learned to counter him with his Hiding in Mist Technique to keep him from falling prey to Kakashi's Sharingan. In response, Kakashi summons his ninken underground to locate and pin down Zabuza to finish him off with a Lightning Cutter. However, Haku uses himself as a human shield and took the fatal blow intended for Zabuza. But despite Haku's sacrifice, Kakashi had the upper hand until Gato and his crew arrive to wipe out everyone. After seeing the gravely wounded Zabuza managing to kill Gato, Kakashi used his Multiple Shadow Clone Technique to scare the other criminals. As Zabuza died, he asked Kakashi to bring his body beside Haku's before he passed away. As Naruto tells Kakashi Haku was born in a "snowy village", Kakashi believes Zabuza really will go to where Haku has gone. Kakashi buried them alongside each other before returning to Konoha with Team 7, as the Great Naruto bridge was completed.

Chunin Exam arc

Feeling his students were ready, Kakashi entered Team 7 in the Chunin Exams, despite some initial disapproval from other elite ninja. After Uchiha Sasuke was branded with the Cursed Seal of Heaven by Orochimaru during the exam's second phase, unable to remove it, Kakashi used the Evil Sealing Method to try and prevent its usage. Following the preliminary matches, Kakashi decided to personally train Sasuke for a month after realizing how much Orochimaru desired Sasuke from his subordinate Yakushi Kabuto attempting to abduct him. Kakashi tried to reinforce Sasuke’s self-worth and value for his friends by teaching him how to use Chidori as a deterrent against the cursed seal. As the training also involved taijutsu training copied from Rock Lee to better condition Sasuke's body for the Chidori, Kakashi runs late in delivering Sasuke to his final round match against Gaara.

Invasion of Konoha arc

When Sunagakure and Otogakure's invasion of Konoha began during Sasuke's match, Kakashi released a genjutsu along with Maito Gai and Sakura, and helped repel the invaders along with Guy. They ended up having several contests to see who could defeat the most Suna and Oto-nin, although Guy usually won. When he noticed that Uchiha Sasuke was going after Gaara. Kakashi sent Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Nara Shikamaru, and Pakkun to stop him and bring him back. After defeating several Suna and Oto-nin, he is briefly seen with Guy, Aoba and Kurenai. After the failed Invasion, he attends Hiruzen's funeral, mourning his loss, he listens to Iruka's words at the funeral and thinks how sad it would be if the Third Hokage had died for nothing.

Search for Tsunade arc

Shortly after the invasion was prevented, Kakashi comes to the aid of Asuma and Kurenai when they nearly got killed by Uchiha Itachi and Kisame when they arrived to the village. Having learned of Akatsuki from Jiraiya, Kakashi was able to hold his own against Itachi for a short while until falling to his opponent's Tsukuyomi. Severely weakened by the technique, Kakashi confirmed that Itachi and Kisame are after Naruto before losing consciousness. Before they could take him, Kakashi is saved by Guy's arrival with the Akatsuki members driven off. Kakashi was left in a coma after what happened, and was not revived until Tsunade returned to the village. Immediately after recovering, he was sent on a new mission.

In the anime, one of his missions was survey the Valley of Judgement for an eye medical plant as Orochimaru might be interested in it for his dojutsu research. Later, Kakashi and Guy discovered Naruto, Sakura, and Neji looked for the said plant to aid Hinata's eye recovery. When the genin were attacked by the inhabited people, Kakashi and Guy acted, driving them away. Afterwards, Kakashi stated that there was no point pursing the plant as the people of this valley have spent countless years there to the point they have lost their eyesight. The Konoha ninja then returned home.

In another mission, to further strengthen the new alliance between the Konoha and Sunagakure, Team Kakashi joined a Suna ninja team that included Gaara. On their way to their mission, they were attacked by a group of Suna ninja determined to kill Gaara. While understanding their intentions, Kakashi did not agree with them and attacked. After defeating the enemy, Kakashi and his team made their way to the bandit's stronghold and destroyed it, succeeding in their mission.

Later in the anime, Team Kakashi went on a mission with Team Asuma to rescue the granddaughter of a Village Headman who was kidnapped by bandits under Baji command. After being taken to the entrance cave of Baji's headquarters by a former member named Tofu and learning the layout of the their base, it was decided between Kakashi and Shikamaru to only have the jonin enter while the genin stay behind. Once Kakashi and Asuma reunited back with the genin and learned of what they got up to in their absence, Kakashi congratulated Shikamaru for his plan and succession in completing the mission.

Later, Tsunade assigned Team 7 a mission to locate and discover the plans of a missing-nin named Sadai. It was decided that Kakashi would take Sasuke alone for this mission while Naruto and Sakura were sent to escort Naho who was a relative of the Fire Daimyo. Later, Kakashi and Sasuke found and infiltrated Sadai's base where they learned he planned to kidnap Naho. With Pakkun's help they were able to find Naruto and Sakura's trail, but not before they were taken captive by Sadai's gang. With the scents mixed up, Kakashi summoned another ninken and split up with Sasuke following Pakkun. Sasuke ended up finding Sadai first. Kakashi arrived in time to stop Sasuke from beating Sadai to death, reminding Sasuke they should bring him back for questioning. Still steaming, Sasuke left and returned to the village, much to Kakashi annoyance.

Sasuke Retrieval arc

Before setting out on his mission, Kakashi stops a battle between Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke. Learning that Sasuke had relapsed into desiring revenge, Kakashi lectures the youth that the Chidori was designed to protect friends — not attack them. Despite encouraging Sasuke to place greater importance on friendship, Kakashi learned upon his return that his student has defected from Konoha. Including that a squad of genin led by Nara Shikamaru has been sent out to retrieve him, and deal with Orochimaru’s Sound Four. Ignoring the fact that he had a new mission, Kakashi rushed out to track down Sasuke and the retrieval team. Using his ninken, Kakashi was able to locate a defeated Naruto, with Sasuke long gone. Unable to pursue Sasuke because of a fresh rainfall and due to Naruto's current condition, Kakashi took Naruto back to the village to recover, saddened that he failed to help his students.

In the anime, when a grown-up Sasuke and Naruto's future son Boruto were sent back in time to shortly after Sasuke's defection, Naruto mentioned that Kakashi is away on a mission when he has breakfast with Boruto.

Pre-Shippuuden Filler arc

Kakashi continued to be sent on missions during the anime's filler arcs, leaving him with very few appearances. He returned from a mission in time to recapture some of the prisoners that had escaped from prison when Mizuki led a breakout. He was later sent to assist with the Cursed Warrior incident in the Land of Birds. While not officially his mission and arriving much later. Kakashi realized the situation wasn't as it seemed, and ultimately took command of the team, thereby deciding to investigate. This led to Kakashi's fight with Hōki's minions, Nagare and Hokushin, whom he defeated with relative ease.

In the Ultimate Weapon Arc, Kakashi was sent to spy on the Takumi Village when rumours of an uprising reached Konoha. There, he discovered the entire village abandoned, and the corpses missing. He later showed up towards the end of the arc, where he was sent as part of reinforcements, along with Jiraiya to aid Naruto and the rest of the genin in helping Sunagakure. Only to discover that Naruto's team had already successfully completed their mission. At the conclusion of Part I, Uzumaki Naruto and Haruno Sakura began training under Jiraiya and Tsunade respectively, leaving Kakashi free to train himself.

Two years later, to help restore Konohagakure's reputation after Orochimaru ruining the last exams, Tsunade and the newly appointed Kazekage Gaara decided to host together an early Chunin Exams with a second secret agenda of hoping to lure out the Akatsuki. As Kakashi assisted Tsunade in setting this up, Kakashi was also instructed to personally deliver an invitation for the impromptu Chunin Exams to Amegakure, using this as an excuse to enter the village with less suspicion while Kakashi would investigate the rumor circulating around the village. Upon arriving at the village, he was quickly halted by the guards. After convincing them he was here on civil business, he was allowed to meet with Hanzo and deliver the invitation, unaware that it was actually Konan in disguise.

Afterwards, while seemingly leaving the village, Kakashi snuck back in to begin his mission. Almost immediately, however, Kakashi realised guards were looking for him and while they didn't know it was him specifically or where he was, the guards were clearly aware of his activity from the beginning. Deciding to play it safe as Tsunade ordered, Kakashi quickly escaped the village and reported to the Hokage upon returning to Konohagakure.

Naruto Shippuuden (Part II)

Kazekage Rescue arc

With Team Kakashi effectively dissolved, Kakashi spent the two and half years further enhancing and refining his abilities to prepare for the inevitable battle with the Akatsuki. After Uzumaki Naruto's return to the village, Kakashi was given, by Naruto, the newest edition to the Icha-Icha series. Later, Kakashi had Naruto and Haruno Sakura take another bell test, with the real objective being to actually capture the bells, to see how much they have improved. When they were unable to get close enough to Kakashi to each take a bell, Naruto and Sakura resorted to trying to spoil the plot of the most recent Icha-Icha novel, throwing Kakashi off guard and allowing them to take the bells.

When word reached Konoha that Gaara had been kidnapped by the Akatsuki, Team Kakashi was sent to rescue Gaara. Upon arrival in Sunagakure, they are teamed with Chiyo before following Akatsuki's trail. Along the way, they encountered Uchiha Itachi. Kakashi was able to fight on even grounds in this battle, but noted that Itachi's performance wasn't what it was the last time they met. With a well-timed manoeuvre, Kakashi was able to trick and restrain Itachi, giving Naruto the opening needed to finish the fight with his Big Ball Rasengan. Afterwards, they discovered that the Itachi was only a lookalike. They then met up with Team Maito Gai, which was sent as back-up to Team Kakashi, outside an Akatsuki lair. Because there is a barrier over the entrance, Team Guy went to take down the barrier. This allowed Team Kakashi to infiltrate the lair, where they found Sasori, Deidara and Gaara.

Deidara flew off with Gaara's body, with Naruto and Kakashi in pursuit, leaving Sasori to Sakura and Chiyo. While pursuing Deidara, Kakashi tried to use his new Mangekyo Sharingan and its Kamui ability in an attempt to remove his head, but his aim was poor and he was only able to sever an arm. Nevertheless, Naruto was able to retrieve Gaara. With Naruto successful, Deidara tried to use a Suicide Bombing Clone to escape. Kakashi used Kamui again to get rid of the explosion, saving Team Guy, who was nearby. Chiyo gives her life to revive Gaara and they return home. Because he used Kamui too much, Guy prompted to carry Kakashi on his back, to the disgust of the rest of the two teams except for Lee who offered to do the same with Neji. Afterwards Kakashi is left bed-ridden for a week.

Sasuke & Sai arc

Kakashi, a bit disorientated, was brought back to Konohagakure by Guy and rushed to the hospital to recover from the strain of using his Mangekyo Sharingan. Ordered bed rest for at least a week, Yamato, a former ANBU ally, goes in his stead as Team Kakashi's leader to capture Sasori's spy. Before the mission began, Kakashi learned the horror that awaited if Naruto was allowed to reach the fourth-tail of the Nine-Tails chakra cloak; Jiraiya had received a near-fatal blow to the chest during training with Naruto in that form. He was later hooked up to an IV, complaining that he wanted to eat solid foods.

Twelve Guardians arc

Upon Team Kakashi's return to Konohagakure, Kakashi learned that they failed in capturing Sasori's spy and of their defeat by Uchiha Sasuke. He then revealed that he had been brainstorming ideas on how to help their training, and ultimately came up with an idea that worked only for Uzumaki Naruto; he would help him create a new and powerful technique that would allow Naruto to possibly surpass him. Being discharged from the hospital soon after (mainly due to Naruto camping out in his room, wanting to start training right away), Kakashi explained that using the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique would allow Naruto to gain experience from each clone when he undoes the technique. Using special paper that responds to chakra, Kakashi helped Naruto learn that his chakra nature was wind-affiliated. With Yamato's help in keeping the Nine-Tails suppressed Kakashi was amazed at how fast Naruto was mastering his wind nature. Following Naruto getting advice from Sarutobi Asuma, Kakashi was called away for a new mission Tsunade, leaving Naruto unable to train.

Hidan & Kakuzu arc

After resuming training with Naruto, Kakashi revealed that this training was to allow Naruto to combine his Wind chakra with his Rasengan to create a brand new technique attempted by Namikaze Minato; to demonstrate his point, Kakashi showed Naruto that he could perform the Rasengan as well, but couldn't add his Lightning chakra to it. Upon hearing that Sarutobi Asuma had been killed in a battle with Akatsuki, Kakashi decided to lead Team Asuma in avenging him. As Naruto had already advanced in his training beyond needing Kakashi's assistance. He left Yamato in charge of overseeing Naruto's training, and had Shikamaru work with him on the plan of attack.

When they located Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu, Nara Shikamaru distracted the two, giving Kakashi an opportunity to hit Kakuzu with a Lightning Cutter. Although successful, it turned out that Kakuzu had a total of five hearts, one of which (the earth heart) Kakashi had already destroyed. Realizing that the Akatsuki duo were seemingly unstoppable when together, the team decided to separate them, with Kakashi handing a capsule filled with Kakuzu's blood to Shikamaru and the latter leading Hidan away. Kakashi later escaped Kakuzu's counterattack, when Hidan inadvertently destroyed his partner's water heart with his curse technique.

While Hidan fell to Shikamaru, Kakuzu intended on taking Kakashi's and the remaining members of Team 10's hearts to replace the ones he lost, with three hearts remaining intact. In the nick of time, Naruto and the rest of Team Kakashi came to their aid. Using his new Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, Naruto was able to crack Kakuzu's fire and wind hearts, leaving Kakuzu defeated. This gave Kakashi the opportunity to finally finish the Akatsuki member off with another Lightning Cutter. As Kakuzu wondered how he could have been defeated by the likes of them, Kakashi told him before killing him how the next generation will always surpass the current one. Kakashi along with Yamato are later summoned to Kakuzu's autopsy by Tsunade who labels Naruto's new technique as a kinjutsu and orders that he never uses it again because of the detrimental side-effects. Afterwards Kakashi finds Naruto at Ramen Ichiraku and ends up having to feed him his noodles. As Kakashi attempts to tell him what Tsunade says, Naruto interrupts him telling him not to stop him from progressing.

Three Tails arc

In the anime, after Konoha learned where Orochimaru was, Kakashi was assigned to lead Team Kurenai in tracking down Orochimaru and potentially Uchiha Sasuke. They were able to find one of his bases, but it was destroyed upon their arrival to get rid of any evidence. They decided to look for survivors, and in doing so, found a number of prisoners trapped in crystals. Perplexed by this, Kakashi was unable to properly investigate, discovering that the team was being spied on.

Kakashi and his team later found themselves attacked by Orochimaru's minions, and trapped by Guren's crystal labyrinth. While initially at a disadvantage, Team Kakashi arrived in time to free them from the labyrinth. The two teams then pursued Guren and her men to a lake where they discover that the Three-Tails was located somewhere in its centre. Later, when Kakashi learned from Naruto that Guren was accompanied with a young boy named Yukimaru, Kakashi deduced that the child must have an important role to play in Orochimaru's plans for the Three-Tails.

After receiving backup from Konoha, Kakashi focused their efforts to seal the beast and retrieve Yukimaru. After Guren and her men interrupted the sealing, the Three-Tails went on a rampage, and ate both Naruto and Guren whole. With help from Yukimaru, Kakashi and his team were able to free Naruto and Guren from the Three-Tails. Kakashi immediately had his team restart the sealing process, but was again stopped by Guren's forces. Who were enhanced with cursed seals, making them more formidable opponents. While the Konoha-nin were able to dispose of them, Yukimaru witnessing Guren's seemingly death caused his power to erupt in full force. Causing the Three-Tails to break free from the seal and retreat back underwater.

Later, Kakashi's team was ordered to return to the village to formulate a new plan for dealing with the Three-Tails. On the night before the team returned, Yukimaru left after being treated by Shizune. While aware of Yukimaru's departure, Kakashi chose not to stop or pursue him, believing that Yukimaru was no longer in any danger or a danger to them.

Itachi Pursuit arc

When word of Orochimaru's defeat at the hands of Sasuke reached Konoha, Kakashi tried to make another attempt at retrieving Uchiha Sasuke. He assembled the members of Team Kakashi and Team Kurenai (minus Kurenai) into an Eight Man Squad, and set out to locate either Sasuke or his brother, Uchiha Itachi. Uzumaki Naruto and Inuzuka Kiba were eventually able to find Sasuke's location. The team gave chase, only to be delayed by Tobi. Their efforts to attack Tobi all proved futile because of Tobi's unique teleporting technique. It was not until Zetsu reported to Tobi that Sasuke had killed Itachi that they were able to continue their pursuit. Before Tobi disappeared, Kakashi noticed, to his shock, a Sharingan on Tobi. Despite the team's haste, Tobi got to Sasuke first. Having to lost the trail, Kakashi and the others were forced to return home.

Tsuchigumo Kinjutsu arc

In the anime, while returning to the village, Katsuyu appears with a message from Tsunade. The team is ordered to aid the Tsuchigumo clan in protecting its forbidden technique from the missing-nin. Kakashi puts Yamato in charge of the mission while he returns to the village for more information.

Invasion of Pain arc

Naruto Shippuuden 159-432

Kakashi is defeated by Pain.

Kakashi was present in Tsunade's office where Fukasaku told the room at large, including Uzumaki Naruto, that Jiraiya was killed by the leader of the Akatsuki. Kakashi left Naruto alone to mourn for his loss but later helped the decoders decipher Jiraiya's message using a clue from the latest Icha-Icha instalment, much to Kakashi's extreme discomfort and Nara Shikamaru's embarrassment. While Naruto left the village to learn senjutsu, Kakashi prepared himself for an Akatsuki attack.

When Akatsuki's leader, Pain, attacked Konoha in search of Naruto, Kakashi confronted Pain's Deva Path, after realizing that the initial attack was a diversion. He saved Umino Iruka from certain death, but was overpowered by the Deva Path's gravitational-manipulation techniques, repelling all of Kakashi's attacks. When the Asura Path arrived to help the Deva Path, Kakashi was forced on the defensive until he got reinforcements from Akimichi Choji and Choza. After figuring out the Deva Path's powers, Kakashi devised a plan, and used Choji and Choza's help to take down the Deva Path. They almost succeeded, but the Asura Path uses itself as shield, allowing the Deva Path to counter, defeating them all. Noting that Kakashi was too great a threat to be left alive, the Deva Path sends a nail flying towards the Copy Ninja, seemingly killing him.

Believing them all to be dead, the Deva Path left. When he came to, Kakashi sent Choji to tell Tsunade about the Deva Path's abilities. But as Choji left, the still-active Asura Path launched a missile at him. Despite knowing that he was almost out of chakra, and would likely die if he used the Mangekyo Sharingan again, Kakashi used Kamui to dispose of the missile and save Choji. Having expended the last of his chakra, Kakashi died, and his soul left his body. He lamented on how he failed to protect Nohara Rin and soon found himself at a campfire with his deceased father, Sakumo, to whom he tells his life story upon request from his father.

Naruto Shippuuden 175-333

Kakashi celebrating Naruto's victory against Pain.

During Pain's destruction of Konoha, Kakashi's body was protected by one of Katsuyu's divisions. After finishing the recount of his life, he stated that he finally understood why his father had chosen to save his friends and was now proud of him for it. Their conversation was halted when a ray of light beamed down upon Kakashi, as a result of Nagato's Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. Before seeing his son depart, Sakumo thanked Kakashi, and declared that he would now be able to join his wife. Kakashi then woke up in the Konoha battlefield, with Choji shocked. As Kakashi wondered what happened, a Katsuyu division explained to him the series of events that had occurred. After the invasion came to an end. Kakashi fetched Naruto and brought him back to a massive welcoming party at Konoha. There, he complimented Naruto on finally achieving his goal to be accepted and appreciated by the whole village.

Konoha History arc

Kakashi remembers all the good times he had with his students before Sasuke defected from Konoha.

Five Kage Summit arc

When news reaches Konoha of Uchiha Sasuke's actions in the Land of Lightning, Uzumaki Naruto asks Kakashi and Yamato to take him to the Land of Iron so that he can ask the Fourth Raikage to forgive Sasuke. Before leaving, Kakashi asks Sai to keep their departure a secret from Danzo, the acting Hokage while Tsunade is in a coma. They locate the Raikage, but Naruto is unable to convince him. During their stay at a motel in the Land of Iron, Obito confronts Naruto. Having expected him, Kakashi and Yamato attack him. Knowing the attacks will have no effect, Obito tells them about Sasuke's motivations, the Sage of the Six Paths, the Uchiha clan, and the truth of Itachi. Kakashi then asks what his own motives are, but receives only the answer of "to be complete" before Tobi disappears.

Sai and Haruno Sakura follow Naruto to the Land of Iron and Sakura tells Naruto that she loves him and Kakashi watches on in disappointment and stops an angered Yamato from interrupting, trusting Naruto to handle it. Kakashi suspects that this is not the real reason they came, which is confirmed by one of Sai's ink clones. Sakura, as agreed upon by the other members of the Konoha 11, is going to kill Sasuke before he involves Konoha in a future war in any way possible. Knowing that she is no match for Sasuke and possibly understanding that he is most likely the only one who can reason with her in her current mental state, Kakashi prepares to follow her. At that moment, Gaara arrives and tells them about the start of the Fourth Shinobi War and Danzo's actions at the Kage Summit. He adds that the other Kage would prefer if Kakashi were the Hokage. When Gaara leaves, the ink clone guides Kakashi to Sakura.

The ink clone disperses en route when Sakura neutralises the real Sai. Kakashi finds her in time to stop Sasuke from killing her and tells her that, as Sasuke's teacher, he will be the one to kill him. Kakashi makes one final attempt to draw Sasuke away from a life of vengeance, but Sasuke menacingly responds by saying that only by bringing his entire clan back would he stop. Kakashi tells Sakura to leave with Karin while he fights Sasuke, and contemplated his feelings being the same as the Third Hokage's with Orochimaru. Their fight soon led off the bridge they were on and Kakashi receives an attack from Sasuke's Susanoo. Kakashi is forced to use Kamui to divert the attack, which leaves him unable to protect Sakura when she rejoins the fight. Naruto arrives in time to save her, and furious at Sasuke's mercilessness, Kakashi tries to finish him off. Naruto halts Kakashi in order to speak with Sasuke, who gloats about having killed Danzo. Obito and Zetsu soon arrive and Kakashi, at Naruto's request, allows them to leave with Sasuke without incident. Kakashi tries to take out Obito with Kamui, but Obito tells him that the technique won't work on him. Obito teleports away taking Sasuke, and Zetsu with him as well. Kakashi collects Karin, believing she may have useful information, and revives Sai and Sakura's other escorts before going home.

Chikara Arc

The reborn Team Kakashi is sent out on a mission by Tsunade to a location known as "The Hole" to investigate an incident where Tonika Village's people had been killed. Regretting that she could not assign more people to the mission because of recent incidents elsewhere, the team sets out nonetheless. While there, they split up into two man teams, with Sai encountering officers from the neighbouring Hachō Village, consisting of Shiseru and her team. After finding out who the Konoha shinobi were, the officers escort them to their village leader, Disonasu. Elsewhere, Sakura and Naruto, who are at The Hole's water spring, encounter Kabuto Yakushi, who uses tiny, specially-created snakes to create a clone of Hidan using his DNA and the water of The Hole, which possesses special properties. Kabuto then reveals that he had reincarnated several shinobi. A fight ensues between the two sides as Yamato and Sai rejoin with their team-mates.

As Team Kakashi continues to battle Kabuto, Hidan and the reincarnated shinobi, Naruto gets swallowed by a giant snake created by Kabuto, but manages to escape using shadow clones, accidentally ingesting Kabuto's clone snakes in the process. When Naruto resurfaces, Kabuto retreats, using the reincarnated Deidara as a diversion, after revealing a village guard's corpse in the mouth of a snake. Meanwhile, Dokku takes care of the orphans, while Miina, due to trauma, becomes mute. After the attack, Naruto and Sakura join up with Shiseru, Yamato and Sai in going with the rest of the guards. While Yamato and Sai investigate Kabuto's motive for destroying the village, Sakura and Naruto follow Shiseru to Dokku's house. When Dokku and the orphans see them, noticing that Naruto wears the same forehead protector as the reincarnated shinobi, Leo kicks Naruto and they run until they reach a broken bridge. Leo crosses first and when Dokku and Miina run, they fall down the ravine, but are saved by Naruto. Yamato and Sai ask Disonasu for information, prompting him to show them a book revealing the origin of The Hole; a great power resided within many years ago and nearly consumed the world. In his sleep, Naruto sees himself in front of the Nine-Tails' cage within his subconscious as he is surrounded by the snakes he had previously ingested. Naruto and Dokku discuss Dokku's failure to save a girl in his prime and all his failures in life, unlike Naruto, who became famous even in the Hachō Village, a rural area. Kabuto, while testing the effects of his talismans on Hidan and Deidara in a graveyard, converses with an unknown individual that communicates to him through a scroll.

After having what was seemingly a bad dream, Miina runs to Dokku in the night to seek comfort. Elsewhere, in a graveyard, Kabuto Yakushi prepares to reincarnate another individual. When day breaks the next morning, Leo, Faz and Lando are eager to start their ninjutsu training with Naruto, who is feeling under the weather. However, after being chided by the boys since he had made a promise to them, Naruto emphatically begins the training, which even Shiseru decides to partake it, having found it interesting. While elsewhere a reincarnated Deidara and Hidan's genetic clone argue over their predicament, having killed several members of the Hachō Village militia, and are later confronted by several more members along with Yamato and Sai. Plagued by vivid images all day, Miina approaches Naruto and begins repeatedly saying "get out". Thinking that Miina was simply being rude, Shiseru punishes her and Miina runs off. Later, Disonasu visits their home and, to everyone's surprise, the Tonika Village Head is with him. Greeting his grandchildren, he notes that he had injured his eyes but presses on past that, asking Dokku for the piece of the treasure he had given to him the night of the invasion of the village. However, Miina alerts everyone to the fact that there was something strange about her grandfather and it is revealed that he had been reincarnated. As a fight subsequently breaks out when Kabuto makes an appearance, Naruto soon begins writhing in pain. Rushing towards him, Miina once again begins shouting "get out", eventually forcing the tiny snakes out of his body. The snakes then form into a clone of Naruto in his four-tailed Version 2 state, which attacks all present individuals, including Kabuto, who is unable to gain control of it through a talisman. As the creature continues attacking indiscriminately, everyone looks on in fear.

The Nine-Tailed Naruto clone tries to attack Dokku and the orphans, when [[[Gai (Might Guy)]] and Rock Lee arrive to repel it. While they fight the beast, Kabuto tries to control it, but to no avail. The rest of Konoha 11 arrive,Team Asuma's help. Sakura and Kakashi and Team Kurenai help Naruto. Tenten and Neji arrive, but are cornered by the reincarnated puppets. Kakashi chases Kabuto. The beast grabs Naruto to absorb chakra, which the Nine-Tails gladly shares. Hinata tries to defend Naruto, but is sent flying. After the beast absorbs Naruto's chakra, it grows in size and starts to devastate the Hachō Village, even firing a Tailed Beast Ball in far away, missing Yamato, Sai, Deidara and Hidan who are fighting outside the village. Dokku tries to save Naruto, who is still unconscious. Moments before the beast tramples them, Kabuto summons a snake to swallow both of them alive and retreats. While inside the underground hall in the Tonika Village, Naruto, unconscious and strangled by snakes, meets the Nine-Tails again in his subconscious.

The Konoha-nin investigates Kabuto's intention in the meanwhile. Shiseru remembers an earlier conversation between her and Dokku about the pros and cons of them adopting the kids. While the Nine-Tails tries to control Naruto, Dokku calls him, but gets shouted instead. Dokku asks Naruto what burden a powerful person carries and made Naruto choose the reason why he desires to be powerful, seeing flashbacks of his comrades of Konoha and Sasuke, leading to the seal inside Naruto to gain strength again. Dokku gives Naruto his forehead protector, stating that he believes in him. Meanwhile, Leo decides to save their teacher by giving the mysterious iron bars which were mentioned earlier by the Tonika Village Head. While inside the hall, Kabuto, along with two reincarnated puppets, approaches with Disonasu, revealed to have engineered Tonika's destruction. Disonasu pulls out a scroll from which emerges the item that he desired: the Saezuri.

While the Saezuri is revealed, learning that Disonasu employed Kabuto Yakushi to wipe out the residents of Tonika Village, Dokku tried to attack Disonasu, but stopped by a reincarnated puppet and restrained by a resurrected Takigakure shinobi. Disonasu also praised Naruto about defeating Pain, the one who scarred him and left him powerless, before kicking the boy repeatedly. Miina and the orphans came to The Hole to give the iron bars, but Kabuto's clone intercepted them. Meanwhile, the rest of Konoha 11, along with Kakashi, Shiseru, Yamato and Sai moved out to the area. Disonasu prepares the summoning of the "power" by putting the remaining iron bars while Naruto enters Sage Mode. Miina hums to the sound as the Saezuri is activated, causing the area Naruto is on, the Ama no Hoko, to rise above ground. Kakashi arrived on the scene, revealing Disonasu's past as a bloodthirsty murderer and former Akatsuki subordinate whose specialty is the field of Summoning Technique, having researched Impure World Reincarnatio with Orochimaru. Kabuto summons his puppets, the Nine-Tailed Naruto Clone, Hidan, and Deidara. Naruto faces off with the clone, while Deidara uses Explosive Clay to create a diversion and chase Naruto.

Disonasu escapes and Hidan faces Shikamaru. Deidara activates the Explosive Clay on the bodies of the resurrected individuals, as Hidan uses his ritual against Team Asuma, and Sakura got restrained by Hayate and the others. While Naruto relentlessly attacked the clone, he learned there is more than power. As Yamato restrained Disonasu, he activated the Saezuri, opening the area where Naruto faces the clone, draining the lake as an obelisk rises and creates a storm. After Hidan's clone body breaks down due to the shorten life spans of the snakes composing his body, Deidara is controlled by Kabuto to escape Kakashi. A lightning hit the area where the orphans are running, Miina pointing to the obelisk. When the storm expands towards Konoha, Tsunade goes out as the storm engulfs the Land of Fire. Naruto tried to stop Disonasu from ascending the tower, only to face his clone after he absorbed some of the tower's power and transformed a Hydra-tailed fox monster.

Absorbing the power within the Ama no Hoko, the Nine-Tailed Naruto Clone mutated into a hydra-tailed version of the Nine-Tails while sending Disonasu to his death. Overpowered, Naruto almost gave in to the Nine-Tails' offer for power when Minato's voice urges the boy to control the tailed beast as Naruto is engulfed in a six-tailed chakra cloak in the Nine-Tails' image. Over time, as he starts to lose against the clone, the Nine-Tails starts to take control over Naruto's body and assumes a seven-tailed jinchūriki state with Yamato trying to restrain it. At the same time, though followed by Kakashi Hatake, Kabuto Yakushi manages to take his leave in midst of the ensuing chaos. Dokku and Shiseru decide to deactivate the Ama no Hoko and say good-bye to the children. On their way there, they confess their love for each other and decide to get married if they survive before portions of the ground start to sink, with Dokku keeping Shiseru from falling.

By that time, Miina is able to get through Naruto, regaining control as he assumed a new form to save Shiseru after telling Dokku to go forward and stop the Ama no Hoko. As Dokku recalls the tune Miina hummed to change the sounds in the Saezuri to deactivate the tower, Naruto uses his new power to destroy his clone as the Ama no Hoko recedes into the ground. Everyone, including the Konoha 11 and children celebrate with Naruto

Adventures at Sea arc

In the anime, Kakashi won a sushi eating contest against Guy, giving him the lead in their rivalry with 51 wins Later. Kiba becomes upset that Uzumaki Naruto, the dead-last in their Ninja Academy days, had become such a hero.Kiba asked Kakashi to train him since he trained Naruto and also shared an affinity for canine-related techniques not unlike Kiba. Feeling too busy, Kakashi instead summoned his nin-ken to assist Kiba in the training.Kiba then gives up on the training lesson. Akamaru carries Kiba to a tree in the village where he sees that Naruto had broken his record in speed since the time they were children racing for candy. With his determination renewed, he demands a rematch with the hounds and is successfully able to retrieve the scroll. With this Kiba races to the tree and sets a new record, declaring that he'd never give up.  Later, after his nin-ken successfully taught a lesson about perseverance to Kiba, they told Kakashi about how Kiba said he wanted to be like Naruto, which Kakashi doubted Kiba would want.

Later, Tsunade told Kakashi that as a veteran from the previous great war and someone respected by all five great nations, he was to be assigned a unit commander for the joined shinobi forces. Kakashi humbly accepted the decision but asked for Tsunade to appoint a second-in-command for Kakashi that he could trust completely, which Kakashi suggested be Might Guy. Suddenly, a small projectile crashed into the room. It was revealed to be a small nin-turtle from Maito Gai delivering an SOS. Kakashi quickly went off to aid Guy, who was currently on a mission to escort Naruto through the Land of Lightning. When Kakashi found Guy, having grown suspicious of enemy attacks from rumors of more advanced transformation techniques, the one-sided rival believed Kakashi was an impostor and attacked him. After a heated battle, Kakashi fighting purely defensively, was able to convince Guy that he was real by pointing out a private and embarrassing fact from Guy's childhood. After calming down, Kakashi explained that Guy sent his SOS turtle to him. Guy realised that while experiencing seasickness, he accidentally bit his finger and summoned his turtle. Seeing that everything was fine, Kakashi returned to the village, sure that Guy would protect Naruto.

Confining the Jinchuriki arc

Upon returning to Konoha, Kakashi brings Karin to Ibiki for questioning. Kakashi spoke with Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado about all that had occurred. While reluctant to become Hokage, he agreed to their decision to make him Hokage the Allied Shinobi Forces would need a Kage from each of the Five Nations and Kakashi already had full trust and respect from the other Kage. In the anime, word quickly spread about Kakashi being appointed the Sixth Hokage. Happy for his long-time friend and rival, Maito Gai challenged him to a race, which resulted in Kakashi's 50th win over Guy. Soon afterwards, Kakashi was taken to the Stone Carvers of the Hokage Monument to make a replica of his face to carve his likeness on the monument.

Later, he accompanied the Konoha Council to a meeting hall with the Fire Daimyō and his delegation. Despite a unanimous vote for Kakashi, moments before he was officially declared the Sixth Hokage, news reached them of Tsunade waking up, ending the proceedings. Later, while Tsunade was recovering, Kakashi spoke with her and thanked her for waking up in time, noting he was not cut out for the position of Hokage.

Fourth Shinobi War arc

Kakashi was later appointed as commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces' Third Division. As he and the other generals stood over their battalions he urged Gaara as the Regimental Commander to say a few words to them. As two ninja on the brink of infighting began to bicker, Kakashi watched on noting that he had a feeling something like this would happen and as Gaara parted them and spoke to the masses Kakashi noticed the change in atmosphere around the ninja.

Later on while Kakashi was with his division, he saw the ambush squad set off a red flare. He then ordered his division to go to the Surprise Attack Division. They arrive in the nick of time and saved Sai, Omoi, and Zaji from danger. Much to Haruno Sakura and his surprise, they find Momochi Zabuza and Haku amongst the enemy ranks. Zabuza and Haku ask how Uzumaki Naruto is doing, and Kakashi remarks that Naruto has become an admirable shinobi. However, their reunion is cut short when Kabuto strengthens his grip on the resurrected shinobi, completely eradicating their personalities. Before completing losing control of themselves, Haku and Zabuza pleaded for Kakashi to stop them, with Kakashi agreeing as he revealed his Sharingan. As Zabuza used the Hiding in Mist Technique, Kakashi orders his squad into a Manji Formation around the sensor ninja. When Kakashi's division is about to mount a counter-attack, he watches in exasperation as the previous generation of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist is summoned to the battlefield. As the swordsmen begin to thin the division's numbers, Kakashi comes up with a plan to neutralise the Hiding in Mist Technique used by Zabuza. He tries to impale Zabuza with a Lightning Cutter, only for Haku to take the blow. Zabuza then seizes the opportunity to attack the immobile Kakashi.

Kakashi narrowly dodges the strike with only a shallow wound, which fully regenerates Zabuza's Kubikiribōchō, while Haku was bisected at the waist. As Kakashi reflects on how this situation was just like their last battle, he remembers how Zabuza and Haku taught Naruto an important lesson in bonds. Kakashi openly thanked them for being Naruto's first opponents. Also remembering how Kakashi had grown to respect and like the two rogue ninja, Kakashi became determined to free them from their undead prison in respect for the way they chose to die. Kakashi then ordered his men to prepare the strategy again as Kakashi charged forward, using his Lightning Cutter to destroy Zabuza's sword-wielding arm and stab him through the chest. Kakashi's team then used special bounds to trap them, also causing the mist to dispel. Openly voicing his anger at how someone could toy with the dead, he states that he will going on a rampage as he picks up Kubikiribocho to use.

On the next day, Kakashi and his division resume the battle against the remaining Mist Swordsmen. In the anime, he defeated Jinin Akebino, giving his team time to seal him. Later, he encountered Jinpachi Munashi and Kushimaru Kuriarare toying with members of Kakashi's division. While able to save some of them, he soon found himself cornered by the two swordsmen. Maito Gai than arrived to aid Kakashi. Taking advantage of the swordmen's lack of teamwork, they were able to hold them off until the sealing team arrived to subdue them.

Later, Kakashi faces Fuguki Suikazan. He cuts down the Mist Swordsman by imbuing the Kubikiribōchō with lightning, allowing Sai to seal Fuguki inside of his drawing. After noticing more White Zetsu clones arriving, he tells Guy who wanted them to take them down all at once that they also had reinforcements after seeing Naruto's clone arrive on the battlefield. After dealing with the remaining Mist Swordsmen, Kakashi and Guy head on to save Naruto from being captured by Tobi. Attacking him once he materialised, Kakashi was able to retrieve Naruto before Tobi could warp him away.

Smiling at his pupil, he tells him that he couldn't sit idly by while his student overexerts himself. Deciphering the information Naruto had spewed out, he watches on as the Five-Tails charges at Tobi and theorises that Tobi did not have perfect control of the beasts before telling Naruto to stay focused. As the beasts charge at them, Kakashi tells Guy that they needed to decipher which beast used which of the Six Paths of Pain's abilities. Activating his Lightning Cutter, he and Guy confront the beasts head on, he is shocked to see that they aren't using these abilities. He and Guy later watch in shock as Tobi, after congratulating Kakashi on his observation skills, causes Utakata and Rōshi to fully transform. As the Six-Tails attacks breathing out a corrosive gas, Kakashi warns Guy not to touch the substance it spewed at all.

As they retreat, Guy alerts him to Naruto's predicament. Telling Guy that they weren't able to leave to free Naruto from Son Goku's jaws as they were being pressured from all sides, he creates a shadow clone and assumes the Manji Formation. Entrusting their backs to one another, Kakashi and his clone charges forward with the Lightning Transmission technique, severing the chakra arms. Kakashi prepares for another onslaught of attacks as the beasts confront him head-on. As Naruto succeeds in releasing Son from Tobi's control, both Kakashi and Guy look on shocked as the now fully-transformed jinchuriki bear down on them.

As the situation becomes dire, Kakashi decides that he would warp away the five Tailed Beast Balls that were aimed at them, but Guy tells him that there was no way he had enough strength for that. Kakashi also declines Guy's decision to use the eighth gate, stating he would die after opening it. Both men are rescued however by Naruto who deflects the attacks with such speed that Kakashi momentarily believes him to be his former teacher. Absorbed into Kurama's chakra as Naruto transforms, both men watch on at the battle between the beasts ensue watching in horror as the five opposing beasts later combine a Tailed Beast Ball, and Naruto attempts to counter with his own.

After Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode was cancelled, Kakashi stands alongside Guy, who uncharacteristically says that he felt old seeing Naruto come so far which somewhat shocks Kakashi. Kakashi then tells him that their youth wasn't over just yet which seemingly gets Guy back to his old self. He is later seen mobilised beside Might Guy, Naruto and Killer B in his full Eight-Tails form preparing to assault Tobi and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Launching an attack with his shadow clone, Kakashi called to Guy who followed up with an attack followed by B and Naruto, the latter of which continued to taunt Tobi despite his advisement against it.

While Naruto and Guy battle Tobi, Kakashi focuses on the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Kakashi then tries to use Kamui on the the statue to remove it's head, however the statue seems to have nullified the attack which confuses Kakashi. He then infuses a kunai with Lightning Release and calls out to B to launch him. Launching across the battlefield, Kakashi easily cuts through a rock that separated him from Naruto and launches the kunai at Tobi who becomes intangible and kicks the kunai towards Naruto. Kakashi uses Kamui once again to warp away the kunai. Regrouping as the last attack seemingly fails to land, the shinobi wonder how they were going to defeat Tobi.

Noticing the slight crack in Tobi's mask, Kakashi denies the fact that it was made by Naruto's last attack, and noted that the crack was too sharp to have been made by an impact like that. Realising what had made the gash in the mask, Kakashi called out to his comrades to aid him in testing his hypothesis. Climbing into B's hand the three shinobi are launched across the battlefield, and after Guy and Naruto respectively attacked Tobi, just before the masked man phased through Naruto's Rasengan, Kakashi used Kamui to send the Rasengan to the other dimension. Tobi's right arm was then subsequently hit by an unseen attack at which time Kakashi declared that his hypothesis was right and realised that Tobi was not using two separate techniques to warp himself away and another to phase, but one single technique.

Obliging Guy's request to tell them his analysis in the simplest way possible, Kakashi explains what occurred that Tobi only intangible by transferring part of himself into the other dimension where Kakashi sends whatever he targets with Kamui to. But as this other dimension is pointed out as a link between his Sharingan and their enemy's, Kakashi questioned Tobi as to where exactly he got the eye from. However, Kakashi is horrified upon hearing Tobi's answer of obtaining his Sharingan from the Kannabi Bridge during the previous war. Kakashi is at a loss for words, in a daze thinking of his former comrade, Guy attempts to snap him out of it while Naruto charges at Tobi in his Tailed Beast Mode. After hearing Naruto's speech, Kakashi rallied back and readied a new strategy that requires him to time the few remaining Kamui he can use. Charging forward as Naruto created a shadow clone to attack Tobi, Kakashi seemingly warped away the dispelled clone's Rasengan before collapsing from the strain with his eye bleeding. In reality, however, Kakashi warped Naruto's clone into the other dimension, allowing his student's clone to catch Tobi off guard and shatter his mask.

Kakashi is left completely stunned as he looks on to see that behind the shattered mask, is his childhood friend Uchiha Obito. When Kakashi questions him as to how he survived, Obito avoids his question but explains the reason for his plans; Kakashi's failure to protect Nohara Rin, causing Obito to hate "this useless reality", an answer that only caused Kakashi to sink further in depression. After the attack launched by Obito is thwarted by Naruto, they are soon joined by the reincarnated Madara. Shocked by this, they silently watched the Uchiha pair converse amongst themselves, and Kakashi expressed surprise at the fact Madara knew about Obito's Eye of the Moon Plan. While Madara started his confrontation with Naruto and Killer B, Kakashi and Guy prepared to confront their former comrade. Taking advantage of this, Kakashi proceeded to ask Obito why he teamed up with someone like Madara.

Interrupted by the clash between Naruto and Madara, Kakashi again posed the question to Obito. However, his former friend told him that there was nothing more to be said between them, and that the only thing left to do was to have their final fight. Hurling shuriken out of the other dimension, Kakashi blocked Obito's barrage with an earth wall until Obito phased through the wall holding one of the shuriken and stabbed it into Kakashi's left leg. Kakashi's persistence to ask why Obito was doing this only led his former friend to retort that he is trash that does not shut up, and warped Kakashi away to the other dimension. Remembering Obito's words of those who abandon friends being even worse than trash, Kakashi could not believe that the hero he looked up to had forsaken his previous beliefs and used his Kamui to warp himself back from the other world.

Kakashi admits that he is trash for failing to protect Rin as promised, but questions Obito if Rin was related to his new ideals before getting kicked in the face and slashed with Obito's two held shuriken. Calling Obito one of Konoha's heroes while imploring him to not end up like him, Kakashi is told by his former friend that they are both trash because they survived the worthlessness of this reality. Obito prepared to finish Kakashi off before Naruto's shadow clone intercepted Obito's right-hand shuriken, declaring that he would protect his friends with his life. Remembering the exact same words he said to Team Kakashi, Kakashi regained his will to fight and used his Lightning Cutter to destroy Obito's other shuriken. He then proclaimed that he remembered what Obito taught him in the past, and that now he would protect Naruto.

Weakened from his injuries and overusing his Mangeykō Sharingan, Kakashi falls to his knees in exhaustion. Obito again attempts to warp Kakashi to the other dimension, but is stopped by Naruto. After Kurama temporarily switches places with Naruto, it grabs Kakashi, and throws him towards Obito, who successfully warps him away. With no time to complain, Naruto attacks Obito while Kakashi, who Kurama had supplied with chakra when it threw him, attacked Obito's materialised body parts in the other dimension. Warping himself back to the real world, Kakashi looks on as a giant Tailed Beast Ball was fired by B and Naruto at the statue. Kakashi contemplated whether the statue had really been destroyed, but it was later revealed to have successfully become the Ten-Tails.

As Madara and Obito connect themselves to the Ten-Tails by way of tendrils being inserted, Kurama grabs Kakashi and Guy in its mouth to restore their chakra. Kurama, understanding the true nature behind the Ten-Tails, begins giving instructions to how they should have the might beast. When Kakashi notes that Kurama is acting like a captain, it thinks Kakashi has a problem with it, but the jōnin merely replies that he actually likes it. Kakashi's kindness to Kurama is shortly enjoyed as the Ten-Tails shows remarkable speed, quickly overwhelming Kakashi and his team. Following Kurama's advice, Kakashi uses Kamui to teleport Gyūki in front of the Ten-Tails, who launches a point-blank Tailed Beast Ball at the resurrected demon.

After deflecting the attack back at Gyuki, the Ten-Tails attempts to attack Naruto and Kakashi with its tail, but Naruto throws Kakashi out of the way in time. Landing in the safety of Kurama, Kurama later dematerialises, and Kakashi falls to the ground. Kakashi finds himself weakened from transporting Gyūki with his Kamui. Stressing the importance of Naruto's life to the war effort, Kakashi finds relief as all divisions of the Allied Shinobi Forces assemble at the battlefield, and Sakura begins to heal him.

Reeling from an attack from a newly evolved Ten-Tails, Kakashi is asked by Shikaku for information regarding his fights with the enemy prior to the Allied Shinobi Forces arrival, but Kakashi is forced to cut contact and attempts to use Kamui against the Ten-Tails. Realizing he couldn't use it in time, ordering another to use an Earth Release technique to make the ground underneath the beast uneven, Kakashi is shocked to see the Ten-Tails massive firing distance with a Tailed Beast Ball. Kakashi and Sakura later narrowly avoid one of the wooden stakes that was fired by the Ten-Tails. He later watched on in horror as Hyuga Neji sacrificed himself to protect Naruto and Hyuga Hinata from the projectiles, and attempted to chide Obito for degrading Naruto, but was cut off by the former's tirade, in which he pointed out that Kakashi should know that nothing but loneliness was at the end of the path Naruto had chosen to take. He would later affirm that promising to protect loved ones could become a curse, if they were unable to fulfil that promise. Understanding this, Naruto still agreed to keep Neji in his heart and to carry on his will, stating that to do otherwise would be to truly killing Neji.

After receiving chakra from Naruto, resulting in a chakra cloak, Kakashi thought back to his conversation with Shikaku and the feats he was able to accomplish the first time Kurama gave him chakra. He later charged towards, and attacked the Ten-Tails alongside the other empowered members of the Alliance. Ultimately, the Allied Shinobi Forces manage to separate Obito and Madara from the Ten-Tails, which causes the massive demon to start going berserk. As Kakashi prepares to warp it away, he is intercepted by Obito. The two men end up warping to Kamui's dimension but not before Kakashi called out to Naruto, telling him to handle things there.

Upon arriving, Kakashi reacts first and strikes with his Lightning Cutter, only to hesitate and stop at the last moment, much to Obito's shock. Realizing that Kakashi is still plagued by guilt and hope for Obito reforming, the fallen Uchiha begins mocking Kakashi. Kakashi begs Obito to accept that things don't have to be this way, as in many ways the man Obito once was now lives in Naruto. Obito then stood up, phasing through Kakashi's Lightning Cutter. He then revealed that he knew all along the circumstances of Rin dying. That just like how he didn't blame Kakashi for Rin's death, she and Kakashi weren't the reason for him starting this war. Obito tells Kakashi to forget about his guilt as there is nothing left of the man Kakashi once fought alongside, emphasising this from a genjutsu of a gaping hole where his heart should be.

Appealing to Kakashi's happier memories from their childhood, Obito emphasises that the illusion world can give Kakashi back that lost time, creating an illusion of child Obito and Rin, which Kakashi quickly strikes down. Kakashi defiantly refuses Obito's offer of a dream world, saying that illusions will never heal one's pain. While admitting that the real world can be cruel at times, the support of one's friends can ease the pain and rejecting your friends will only add to the pain. Obito scoffed at Kakashi's words, saying that attachments like that are the source of one's pain. Kakashi however reminds Obito of the lesson he once taught Kakashi: One who abandons their friends are worse than trash. As Obito was taken aback by these words, Kakashi declared that he will force these feelings back on Obito, even if he refuses.

Their battle then raged on, with them challenging each other with various genjutsu tactics, constantly ending in a stalemate. Finally deciding to fight for real, Kakashi and Obito as a last sign of respect between former allies performed a challenge salute. The two clashed, almost mirroring a sparring match from their youth. While Obito managed to pierce Kakashi's shoulder with a black rod, Kakashi impaled Obito through the chest, winning the fight. While Obito admitted losing, he laughingly said Kakashi would lose the war before returning to the normal world.

Heavily fatigued from his battle against Obito, Kakashi remained in the Kamui dimension to suture his wounds before returning to the battlefield. As he began to catch his breath, he thinks over all that has transpired with the new dark Obito, coming to the conclusion that Obito has not truly relinquished the Will of Fire, but rather pushed it aside and his meeting with Naruto has caused him to gain conflicted emotions. Suddenly, Kakashi begins to see and hear what Obito does through their matching pair of Sharingan eyes. Seeing Obito's continued turmoil, Kakashi notes that Obito could have overcome this hole in his heart if he let his friends fill it with their feelings.

Once recovered, Kakashi teleported back to the battlefield. He stopped Uchiha Sasuke from killing Obito, and instead landed on top of the defeated Obito. Believing that Obito was his responsibility, Kakashi was lunged his kunai at Obito, only for the reincarnated Namikaze Minato to stop him. While Kakashi was shocked by the appearance of his late sensei, Minato explained that Naruto's persistence has gotten through to Obito. Accepting his inner pain, Obito admits that Rin was the only good thing in his life and losing her only left him in misery. Madara's plan seemed the only sensible choice left in Obito's mind. Kakashi admits that he doesn't know for sure if Naruto's views are anymore right and that maybe Madara's isn't completely wrong, shocking Obito. While sympathizing with Obito's personal pain of Rin's death along with his other loved ones, Kakashi insists that Naruto's view is at least less likely to fail because his goals naturally draws more people to aid him.

After learning from Minato that Obito would survive, Kakashi prepared to join the battle against Madara. As Kakashi's words fully reached Obito, the Uchiha admitted to understanding why Nagato betrayed him to aid Naruto. Deciding to follow suit, Obito resolved that as a true act of atonement for his mistakes, he would sacrifice his life to revive all the fallen shinobi with Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. Not wanting his childhood friend to die, Kakashi begged him to instead dedicate his life to making amends, to which Obito said would be the "easy" path, no longer feeling worthy to ever see Rin again. Before he could do so, however, Black Zetsu emerged from the ground, merged with Obito and forced him to revive Madara, much to Kakashi and Minato's shock.

Succeeding in its main goal of existing, Black Zetsu then proceeded to take Obito's Rinnegan eye to return it to Madara. Kakashi and Minato quickly acted to stop it, to which Black Zetsu responded by merging again with Obito, warning them that his unison with the dying Obito was the only thing still keeping him alive. Being asked what it is, Black Zetsu responds that he is a manifestation of Madara's will, calling Kakashi and his allies fools for underestimating Madara.

Suddenly, from Obito's artificial body half, the Demonic Statue emerges. Kakashi attempts to stop it by removing the head with Kamui, but the statue is teleported elsewhere, causing Kakashi's attack to instead remove its right arm. As Black Zetsu continued its attempt to take the left Rinnegan from Obito's eye-socket, Obito continued to resist the possession, telling Kakashi to destroy the eye. Looking down on their attempts, Black Zetsu informed them that Madara has recently regain his right Rinnegan eye.

Deciding to take the risk on Obito, Kakashi and Minato prepare to attack Black Zetsu. Suddenly, Gaara appears with Sakura and a critical-state Naruto, having lost Yang-Kurama to Madara. Gaara quickly tells Minato that Naruto can be saved by sealing the Yin half of Kurama inside Naruto. While Minato's attempt to do so is stopped by Black Zetsu, Madara arrives. Now the Ten-Tails' jinchuriki, Madara seeks to complete his power by regaining his left eye.

As Black Zetsu attempts to reunite with Madara, bringing with it Yin-Kurama and Madara's remaining eye, Obito manages to overshadow Black Zetsu, keeping it merged to the younger Uchiha. As Obito and Madara begin questioning Obito's purpose in life, Kakashi attempts to teleport Obito away from Madara and Minato launches an attack on the Uchiha. Madara easily repels Minato's attack and kicks Minato's Rasegan at Kakashi, cancelling Kakashi's Kamui before it could take affect. Obito then approaches Madara and everyone is shocked as Obito impales his hand through Madara's chest, stating that he is not an extension of Madara, but Uchiha Obito.

Relieved that his friend had regained some sense of himself, Kakashi obliged his request and warped Naruto — along with Sakura — to the other dimension. Standing alongside his comrade, Kakashi conceded to be Obito's backup but noted that the Uchiha better not mess up. As they are both attacked by Madara, Obito and Kakashi both use Kamui in sync allowing Obito to warp to the other dimension before Madara could attack him. With Kakashi left defenceless, however, he was rescued by Gai whom Kakashi noted he was actually happy to see for the first time.

As Kakashi and his allies began considering their options against the transcendent Madara, Guy made the first move, attacking Madara with his Daytime Tiger. The attack was easily resisted and Guy was narrowly saved by the timely arrival of Rock Lee. Realizing the grim situation, Guy resolved to make his ultimate move, which Kakashi realized to his horror was the suicidal eighth gate. As his friends tried to talk his out of it, Guy expression made it clear to Kakashi that his decision was final. Once accessing all Eight Gates, Guy quickly began to overwhelm Madara.

Realizing the limited time Guy had, Minato revealed the true mechanics behind Madara's chakra orbs. The group then launched a strategy to support Guy's offence and quickly got rid of most of Madara's only defence from Guy's Evening Elephant. With Kakashi's Sharingan too strained from overuse to properly aim Kamui from a distance, Gaara carried Kakashi on his sand, getting Kakashi close enough to teleport a large portion of Madara's barrier, letting Guy complete his assault on Madara.

As Guy and Madara continued their extreme battle, the spectating Kakashi admitted that Guy had indeed surpassed him just as Sakumo predicted years ago. Finally, Guy reached his limit and collapsed, his body thrashed from the effects of the Eight Gates and was quickly dying. Wanting to finish Guy personally, Madara launched his final chakra orb at Guy, only for the revived Naruto to return and deflect it wit his bare foot. With a new look in Naruto's eyes, Naruto then somehow stabilised Guy's life force, sparing the taijutsu master from certain death.

With a new look in Naruto's eyes, Naruto then somehow stabilised Guy's life force, sparing the taijutsu master from certain death. As Naruto began to overwhelm Madara with his newfound powers, Kakashi watched in amazement. Realizing that he was losing the advantage, Madara absorbed the giant god tree into his being, fully regenerating himself. Sasuke then return with a similar power to Naruto's and the two joined forces to battle Madara.

As the two childhood friends begin holding their own against Madara, the legendary Uchiha decides to focus first on regaining his left Rinnegan. Still exhausted from earlier, Madara catches Kakashi off guard and steals his left Sharingan, using it to teleport to the other dimension.

Shortly afterwards, Sakura appeared from the other dimension, revealing that Obito teleported her to safety from Madara. She explained that according to Obito, Madara would become unstoppable with both Rinnegan. After Naruto finished sealing Madara's shadow, he used his new powers to restore Kakashi's original left eye, shocking Kakashi. Watching his three former students bicker with each other, Kakashi reflected on how much they have changed and grown before questioning Sasuke's new goals. He then alerted them to the fact that Madara was returning and told his students to remember the first lesson he taught them: team-work.

Upon returning, Madara reveals both his eyes restored plus Black Zetsu back in control of Obito both of Obito's eyes original eyes returned to his body. As Madara mocks Obito's efforts, the reunited Team 7 prepares to battle, with Kakashi admiring their unison. Kakashi then watches on as his former students battle Madara. Not wasting time, Madara reveals begins to devastate the area the Chibaku Tensei. He then reveals his newly-formed third eye and prepares to perform the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

As people everywhere become assimilated by this technique, Sasuke, with his own Rinnegan making him immune to the genjutsu, uses his Susanoo to shield Kakashi and his allies from the technique. As everyone asks Sasuke the nature of this technique, Sasuke stubbornly tells them to be quite, insisting that he is in command. While Naruto is furious at Sasuke's still independent attitude, Kakashi solemnly admits that with Sasuke's Rinnegan, he may be the only one able to save the world. As the light of Madara's technique finally ends, Sasuke lets down his Susanoo, noting that only a Rinnegan has a chance of canceling the Infinite Tsyuyumi. Madara then confronts the remaining free individuals, only for Black Zetsu to suddenly betray Madara and impale his hand through Madara's chest, shocking its audience. As Madara asks his own manifestation why he would do this, Black Zetsu boldly states that it is actually a manifestation of Otsutsuki Kaguya. Black Zetsu then proceeds to expand its being into Madara.Sakura and Kakashi are originally at a loss as to who Kaguya was.

As Kakashi tells her not to interfere with Naruto and Sasuke's battle with Black Zetsu. He tells her that she will get herself kill without thinking of a plan first. Sakura then thinks to herself that Naruto, and Sasuke will handle the battle themselves without her help.Sakura and the others then found out that the victims that were affected by the Infinite Tsukuyomi will be turned into White Zetsu's. Sakura and Kakshi are then shock to found Black Zetsu leaving Obito's body, and turns himself into Otsutsuki Kaguya, the woman that Naruto and Sasuke informs to their teammates that she is standing right in front of them. Sakura and Kakashi then find out from Kaguya that she intends to keep people alive in her genjutsu, without killing them. Sakura and Kakashi then prepared for Kaguya's next attack on the battlefield arfter it's turned into a Lava river.

As Sasuke and Naruto survive the deadly fall on Sasuke's summoned hawk, Kakashi responds quickly to the drop by impaling two Kumasi in the wall; one stabbing Obito's hand to keep him suspended and the other attached to an unravelled scroll. Kakashi used the scroll as a makeshift rope to save himself and Sakura. Soon after, the lava's intense heat burned through the scroll, resuming Kakashi and Sakura's plummet, only to be saved by Naruto's chakra arms and newfound ability to fly. To keep his full attention on Kaguya, Naruto then used a shadow clone to carry Kakashi, Sakura and Obito to safety. He and Sakura then asked Naruto's shadow clone about how he and Sasuke were going to handle Kaguya. Naruto's shadow clone then told them that they won't going to stop trying on defeating Kaguya. Later, he and Sakura was shocked to see Naruto's Sexy: Reverse Harem Technique, and even more surprised to see it work on Kaguya. Kakashi then commented that he never thought Naruto's Sexy Harem technique would actually save the shinobi world. He then even asked Jiraiya if he was watching Naruto's battle with Kaguya. He then proceed to watch the rest of Naruto and Sasuke's battle with Kaguya. But was more frighten with Kaguya changing the battlefield dimensions, and even commenting that she was like a God.

After Sasuke is captured by Kaguya's dimensional portal, Naruto's shadow clone succeeds in resuscitating Obito. After explaining the situation to Obito, the Uchiha states that using Kamui may be able to work in sync with Kaguya's portal and save Sasuke.

As Kaguya finally notices Kakashi and the others, Kakashi notes that she doesn't even care about them. Once the real Naruto finally forces Kaguya to open her portal, Obito teleports into it with Naruto's shadow clone and Sakura, leaving Kakashi to watch.

As Kakashi grows depress in his inability to actively help in the battle, Obito finally returns with Sakura and Sasuke. Kaguya, seeing that the two halves of her son's power have returned, realises she can't hold back anymore. She then enhances the gravity in the area, pinning everyone, including herself, to the ground. She then fires her bone blades at Naruto and Sasuke. Kakashi and Obito quickly rush to protect the younger ninja with their bodies. At the last second however, Obito intervenes. Unable to use more than one Kamui at the moment, Obito takes his hit from Kaguya's attack but protects Kakashi from his projectile, not wanting another friend to die in front of him.

As Obito's body started to crumble, a sorrowful Kakashi asked Obito why he gave his life for him when his powers are still needed, dismissing himself as useless. Telling Kakashi to focus on the enemy, Obito thought about how the new generation still needed Kakashi to support them, and that it was too soon for him to die. He watch Obito tell Naruto his final words, and saw him crumble into dust much to his shock.

Angered by this, Naruto attacked Kaguya and managed to sever her arm and Black Zetsu with it. Moments later, the spirit of Obito manifested and entered Kakashi. Inside Kakashi's consciousness, Obito told Kakashi he trusts in Kakashi's strength to be the Sixth Hokage. As a parting gift, Obito passess on his chakra and Sharigan power to Kakashi, allowing the jōnin to manifest both Sharingan in each of his eyes. With his new power, Kakashi performs Susanoo to protect Sakura and rejoin the battle directly, shocking his former students with his new abilities.

Asserting his presence on the battlefield, Kakashi proceeded to warp away several of Kaguya's chakra arms away. Regaining control of herself, Kaguya then shaped this mass into a giant Truth-Seeking Ball. Acknowledging that his Kamui couldn't stop that, Kakashi devised a plan and shared it with his students, telling them to be ready for what could be their last mission as a team. Quickly enacting this plan, Team Kakashi were able to coordinate their efforts and penetrate Kaguya's defences to land a decisive blow on her.

From this, Naruto and Sasuke were finally able to place Sage of Six Paths' seal on Kaguya. As the Chibaku Tensei was forming, Madara and the tailed beasts were extracted from Kaguya's form. Ultimately, a new moon was form and sealed Kaguya and Black Zetsu within in. As Team Kakashi pondered how to return their own dimension, the spirit of Otsutsuki Hagoromo summoned and worked alongside the spirits of all the past Kage to teleport Team Kakashi, the tailed beasts, and Madara to the normal dimension.

Kakashi was left shocked at meeting the legendary Sage of Six Paths, who openly commended Kakashi for his leadership of his team. Kakashi humble said the real work came from them. Kakashi then talked with Obito within his subconscious, forgiving his fallen friend for his mistakes and said his final goodbyes, letting Obito return to the afterlife. After the past Hokage also return to the afterlife, plans for the future are expressed. Much to Kakashi's horror, Sasuke expresses his desire to kill the current Kage and seize control of the tailed beasts, swiftly accomplishing the latter with his Rinnegan. When Kakashi asks Sasuke if he still simply wants revenge, Sasuke explains that what he wants is revolution; to reshape the world as he feels it should have been. As Sasuke turns his attention to his only threat left, Naruto, the Uzumaki firmly says he will finally end the sibling feud between Asura and Indra.

Exhausted from his prolonged use of the Sharingan, Kakashi could only watch as Naruto and Sasuke prepare to do battle. After Sasuke silenced Sakura with genjutsu, he scolded Sasuke for his actions, but was unable to stop him from leaving. Tending to Sakura, he spoke with Hagoromo about Naruto and Sasuke's fate.

When Hagoromo starts to disappear, he asks for advice, who tells the former just believe, as there is nothing more they can do. As Naruto and Sasuke's battle from afar began to ravage the land around them, it began to even effect the area where Kakashi and Sakura waited. Kakashi shielded Sakura from the debris until she finally awoke, to which Kakashi explained the situation.

Once the carnage final died down, Kakashi and Sakura went to their friends' battleground. There, they found Naruto and Sasuke battered and bleeding out from their missing right and left hand respectively. As Sakura began to heal them, Kakashi thought back again on how their lives became intertwined.

Blank Period

Shortly after the Fourth Shinobi War ended, Kakashi's face is carved into the Hokage Monument as he becomes the Sixth Hokage. However he is unsure about paperwork, but is cheered up bybTsunade. He then hears from Shizune that Gaara and A are in the village. He then hears about Shikamaru's request. After taking office, the first thing he does is having Naruto attend the rank of a jonin. Since Naruto has to take the Chunin Exams again, Kakashi agrees to have Iruka help Naruto. Soon after he attends Neji's funeral. A few months later, he pardons Sasuke of his past crimes due to his service in helping end the war, but largely due to a good word from Naruto. He and Sakura meet with Sasuke at the village's gates as Sasuke leaves to pursue a journey of redemption, and Kakashi warns him to not cause any more trouble or else it will be Kakashi's responsibility. Sasuke promises Kakashi he won't cause trouble and apologizes for his past actions.

About fourteen months after the Fourth Shinobi War ended, Konoha succeeds in capturing Garyo, the leader of the Ryuha Armament Alliance, and a group that despises the current shinobi system. Despite already having his likeness carved into the Hokage Monument, Kakshi has yet to officially take up the position, feeling unqualified of the position, especially after losing his Sharingan. He later goes to oversee the security maiden voyage of the Tobishachimaru in the Land of Waves. While meeting up again with Tazuna, a woman runs through the crowd, eager not to miss her seat on the flight. Kakashi catches her as she nearly falls.

As the Tobishachimaru is about to take off, Kakashi spots Rock Lee and Guy sneaking on to the ship. As he tries to find them a place to sit, they discover a group of shinobi planting explosive tags around the ship. Kakashi and Guy infiltrate the ventilation ducts to gather information unnoticed. They watch as the ship's passengers are gathered together by the enemy groups leader, Rahyo. The Konoha ninja guards engage the opposing forces, but their bodies are frozen by Kahyo. Rahyo tells the passengers that they are being taken hostage until Garyo is released from the Blood Prison. Also, in half an hour, if Garyo isn't freed, one hostage will be killed followed by another every subsequent ten minutes. Additionally, if Konoha involves Naruto in this, the Tobishachimaru will be blown up.

As a member of the Ryuha Armament Alliance delivers Rahyo's demands to Tsunade, Ino contact Kakashi and Guy while Tsunade assembles Konoha's available personnel, with the exception of Naruto. Soon afterwards Guy's motion-sickness abruptly strikes, revealing their location to Armament Alliance. Ice shards start attacking them from all directions and they separate, with Kakashi quickly forced to defend himself with his new Lightning Release: Purple Electricity. The duct dislodges and he falls into a restroom, where he finds the woman he met earlier hiding. Kakashi introduces himself to her as a Konoha ninja and brings her with him.

Kakashi summons his ninken and sends them to find all the explosive tags planted. Kakashi quickly neutralizes several enemy shinobi, to which Rahyo responds by freezing two hostages to death. Rahyo offers to give ten more minutes for Konoha to comply with his demands before killing anyone else if Kakashi surrenders. Kakashi does so and is bound with ropes. Kakashi is angry with himself for allowing himself to be tied up while more people soon die, but is finally contacted by Ino. She reports that the ninken have found all the exploding tags, while Guy will set up a distraction so that Kakashi can gather the remaining passengers and get them to safety. Kakashi requests that Sai be sent to provide assistance.

Guy elsewhere detonates the exploding tags, only for Kahyo stabilizes the ship and puts out the forming flames. Following this, Guy appears before Rahyo. Even with only one good leg, Guy remains as fast as ever, evading Rahyo's ice-techniques. Despite this and delivering some powerful blows, it becomes clear he is in pain from his exertions. During this skirmish, Pakkun chews through the ropes binding Kakashi. Kakashi prepares to joinjoin Guy, but is interrupted by the appearance of Kahyo. Kahyo attacks Kakashi with her own ice-techniques, to which Kakashi counters with his lightning-techniques. Kakashi tries talking to Kahyo, arguing that the Armament Alliance can't really want to destroy the world because they, like Uchiha Madara before them, in fact love the world too much. In reference to the death of Kahyo's son Hakuhyo, who died because of lack of medics available during the Fourth Shinobi World War, because their Kakashi sympathizes, but states that it is inevitable that a shinobi will lose somebody they love. Kahyo retorts that the her son was an innocent bystander, while Kakashi points out that Armament Alliance is now threatening to kill the innocent passengers.

Kahyo becomes angry by Kakashi's observation and performs Ice Release: Earthen Consecutive Chains of Ice, spreading ice across the area, engulfing everything it comes into contact with. Rahyo soon knocks Kahyo unconscious when she refuses to listen to him, however the damage left a hole in the floor, sucking out passengers from the unbalanced pressure. Kakashi catches Guy before he's sucked out too. During this, Kahyo's mask has come off, revealing the woman he met earlier. Kakashi loses his grip and starts falling, only to be saved along with everyone else by Sai. Despite things now going in the Armament Alliance's favor, Kakashi assumes they have prepared for this. Kakashi sends a message to Ino that Tobishachimaru is heading to Blood Prison and has Sai to take him back to the ship.

Kakashi sneaks back to the dining room where the remaining hostages are held. Kakashi attempts to attack, but his body to becomes internally cold and ice starts spreading across his body. Only by coating himself with chakra can he stop its spread. Kahyo explains that she branded him with her Chains of Ice when they first met. Kahyo shares her history with Kakashi and hardships she endured simply because of her bloodline. Kakashi has no response to her story and allows Rahyo's men to take him prisoner.

Because of the ship's higher elevation, Kakashi correctly theorizes that the air is thin enough that the men guarding the door aren't thinking clearly, tricking the guards into letting him go. He returns to the dining area once again and finds the passengers are being fitted with parachutes so that they can evacuate the Tobishachimaru safely. Confused about why Rahyo has suddenly had a change of heart, Kakashi concludes that the parachutes must be packed with blue fire powder, intent on using the passengers as bombs on the prison's wall to help Garyo escape.

Kakashi reveals himself and the truth behind Rahyo's intent to the passengers. The passengers can't remove the parachutes on their own and Rahyo's men start throwing them over board. Kakashi intervenes, briefly diverting his chakra from fending off the ice in order to use Purple Electricity on the remaining passengers and release them from the parachutes. While Kakashi dedicates his chakra back to regulating his body temperature, Kahyo questions Rahyo about whether Kakashi's accusation is true. Rahyo reluctantly says it is. Saddened, Kahyo attacks Kakashi but her ice projectiles miss and Kakashi, in his counter, discovers the ice binding him is gone. He attacks her, but stop short of killing her, realizing that's what she wanted.

Kahyo admits that Kakashi's earlier words convinced her she was wrong. The Tobishachimaru then begins to sway from all the damage and a fire breaks out. While Kahyō focuses on extinguishing the flames, the floor starts to give way. Kakashi gets the ship's pilots to safety and then tries to rescue Rahyo, telling him he can't save the world if he's dead. The ship heaves again and Rahyō is flung from Kakashi's grasp. Rahyo shouts his wish to have met someone like Kakashi sooner.

As the Tobishachimaru continues rising into the sky, Kakashi realizes it's only a matter of time until they start to experience the Armostrong limit. He convince Kahyo to help him save the lives of everyone. Before they can act, Kakashi sees the Tsuchikage and his men flying outside, ready to destroy the ship if necessary. At the same time, Ino delivers a message from Tsunade that Kakashi is to personally see to it that the ship is destroyed before the Tsuchikage has a chance.

With no good option available to him, Kakashi sticks to his original plan of puncturing the helium sacs. The Tobishachimaru starts plummeting back to the ground. Kahyo uses her ice to keep the ship together and ease its fall. The Tsuchikage catches up with them and offers to take Kakashi and Kahyo to safety. Unwilling to abandon the rest of the passengers, Kakashi leaps through a hole in the hull out into the clouds the Tobishachimaru is falling through and uses Purple Electricity. Kakashi is rescued from the air by Kurotsuchi. As she escorts him to the ground he watches as Kahyo uses ice to glide the Tobishachimaru to a clearing by the Blood Prison. When Kahyo emerges, Tsunade orders she be taken into custody because the Armament Alliance's stunt has destroyed Konoha's credibility and caused the Land of Waves to abandon their plans for airborne transportation. Before she can have Kahyo thrown into jail, Kakashi appears and asks to be allowed to decide her punishment.

Kakashi suggests a sentence of life-imprisonment if she will agree to be the new warden of the Blood Prison, dedicating the rest of her life to keeping those imprisoned there within its walls. He explains Kahyo's Chains of Ice makes uniquely qualified to replace Mui, the previous warden. Tsunade agrees on the condition that it be Kakashi's first act as Hokage. Kahyo vows to accept this assignment if that is what Kakashi asks of her, so he officially takes on the title of Sixth Hokage.

Four months later, Kakashi learns that the village has been misinformed about his relationship to Kahyo because of Naruto, who is openly publicizing his fantasies about Kakashi's feelings for Kahyo. Kakashi decides to let it go when he realizes Naruto is only upset for being excluded from the whole affair. To make it up to Kakashi, Naruto invites him to have lunch at Ramen Ichiraku. After he had become the Six Hokage, one of Kakashi's acts was to excuse Sasuke of his crimes for his services in ending the war.

Two years after the war ended, Kakashi explains to Shikamaru that during the War and every month since then, a large number of shinobi (almost exclusively young, single men) have been deserting their hidden villages and then disappearing. The number of missions has also seen an unusually sharp decline. From investigating both matters, Kakashi believed the Land of Silence - a samurai-run country on a distant continent - was involved. He sent Sai and a team of ten Anbu to investigate.

Kakashi and Shikamaru are concerned by a number of things in Sai's message: the clear haste it was written with, not having Sai's characteristically clear handwriting; his report that his entire team has gone missing; his warning of the threat posed by Gengo, the Land of Silence's strangely charismatic leader; Sai's choice of words that suggest he is awed by Gengo and doubtful of the Shinobi Union. What troubles them most, however, is the fact that Sai did not deliver the report in person. It is apparent to Kakashi that, if nothing is done, the Union will inevitably go to war with the Land of Silence. In order to avoid this, Gengo must be assassinated. Shikamaru does not hesitate to volunteer for the job, chiefly so that he can try to find Sai. Kakashi assigns two Anbu to assist Shikamaru with his mission: Rō, who can disguise his and others' chakra signatures, and Soku, who can shoot lethal and unavoidable Chakra Needles.

Kakashi is informed that the mission was a success, while most of the Konoha and Suna forces return to their villages. Kakashi finds out that Naruto and the others remained behind to help the Land of Silence return to normalcy after Gengo's arrest. Kakashi decides to give Shikamaru some time off when he gets back to Konoha. A week later, when Shikamaru returns to work, Kakashi offers him a mission that while important can be accomplished by almost anyone. For that reason, Shikamaru turns down the mission, as he has a date with Temari the next day to much Kakashi understands.

After the events of Naruto saving Hinata and Hanabi from Toneri, a week later Kakashi informs Sakura that Sunagakure is interested in opening its own clinic for children and has requested that she and Ino help lay the groundwork. After she leaves to prepare for the trip, Kakashi meets with Sai and tells him about two separate attacks by unknown perpetrators against the Fire daimyō and Homura Mitokado. Although nobody was badly hurt and there's no proof the two attacks are connected, Kakashi wants Sai to investigate both incidents by himself.

During a meeting with the Fire daimyo to discuss the budget, Kakashi and Shizune try to secure additional funding for Sakura's clinic. Kido Tsumiki argues against them, believing the recent attacks against the daimyo and Homura call for increased funding to Konoha's Anbu. The daimyo defers to Homura, who decides to side with Kido. When Kakashi returns to his office he is met by Sai, who tells him of the earlier attack he fought off. Both observe that the attacker's suicidal juinjutsu is similar to what Danzo used on his agents. This, combined with the fact that nobody but an Anbu could have even guessed Sai's assignment and thus known to attack him, convinces Kakashi that it is all part of a scheme concocted by Kido Tsumiki, a former ally to Danzo. Kakashi instructs Sai to focus his investigation on Kido.

Sakura and Ino deliver Gaara's message to Kakashi as soon as they return to Konoha. Kakashi is also convinced that the man conspiring against Konoha was a lookalike of Sasuke, but he has no reliable way of contacting Sasuke in order to confirm. He shares Gaara's recommendation to do nothing at the moment so that unsubstantiated assumptions can't be spread against Sasuke. Then Sai's informant requests a meeting and, there, reports a rumor about Sasuke: that he approached some arms dealers several weeks earlier seeking weapons for an attack on Konoha, and then killed the dealers when they failed to cooperate. He also reveals that, after the war, he saw an Anbu collecting samples from the Valley of the End and the bridge where Sasuke fought Danzo. Sai pays him for this information and requests another meeting in the future.

Later, Kakashi informs Sakura and Ino of the rumors about Sasuke's activity that have been reported by Sai. Ino is initially more concerned with what risks Sai may be facing, but Sakura steers things back to what the rumors mean for Sasuke. Since Sasuke was so instrumental to the victory during the Fourth Shinobi War, the five Kage are still willing to believe it is not Sasuke planning against Konoha. However, if news of his actions gets out and public opinion turns against him, the Kage will be forced to do what they can to stop him.

With Sakura's theory and his informant's earlier report about an Anbu activity at the Valley of the End, Sai believes the Anbu – specifically Kido and Magire – are behind the Sasuke impostor. He also believes this would explain the tailed beast cloaks he encountered, with those being drawn from skin and hair samples taken from Naruto and other jinchuriki. Since Sakura, Sai, and Ino are apparently all investigating the same thing, Kakashi makes them a team; Ino dubs themselves "Ino-Saku-Sai" (猪サクサイ). The three agree to continue their investigations and keep each other informed of their findings.

Later, Ino contacts Kakashi and informs him that Sakura has been kidnapped by Kido. He advises not getting anyone else involved in the rescue as that might only provoke Kido to kill Sakura. He also informs them that the Fourth Raikage is contemplating a Kage Summit to discuss reports of Sasuke's activity.

Upon being confronted by Naruto and Hinata, who are worry about Sakura. Kakashi eventually tells Naruto and Hinata that Sakura was kidnapped by Kido. So he along with Naruto and Hinata form a rescue team in order to find her. All three of them soon arrive to help after Magire is defeated. Together with Ino and Sai, they head into the forest to help Sakura. As Sakura is verifying that Kido has been defeated, she is joined by Ino, Sai, Kakashi, Naruto, and Hinata. They congratulate her on her victory, but are interrupted by news that several of Kido's Anbu have fled the village. Though he can't move, Kido explains that they're going to continue his plans. Sakura and the others immediately give chase, but on reaching the Anbu they find them all defeated with a combination of fire and genjutsu. They guess that it was Sasuke's doing and that he chose not to stick around when he confirmed Kido was defeated. Although they're disappointed that Sasuke didn't at least say hello, they are glad that the entire ordeal is over. With the mission being a success Kakashi dismissed Ino–Saku–Sai, including Naruto and Hinata from their duties.

Many years later in Konoha, Kakashi receives an invitation to Naruto and Hinata's wedding. Kakashi has every intention to attend and he wants everyone else who was invited to be able to go as well. However, because Naruto and Hinata's friends have all risen to positions of importance within Konoha, all have vital and overlapping missions that they must be available for. Although Kakashi can in theory rearrange mission schedules in such a way as to make everyone available on the wedding day, he can't account for unforeseen circumstances that may prevent individuals from returning in time. He contemplates making the wedding itself a mission so that everyone can be "assigned" to it without problems, but worries that would be an abuse of his authority. Kakashi then assigned all the wedding's attendees a mission that is to be kept secret from Naruto and Hinata: bring a gift. (In the anime, he does this to see who can attend and who goes on a mission by not getting a gift. But when Hinata and everyone finds out about it. He decides that everyone will go to the wedding. But he makes Konohamaru go to the sand village with him so he can speak to Gaara). Later, Kakashi receives complaints about men with large eyebrows crying loudly early in the morning.

On the day of the wedding, guests start arriving at the ceremony to be held under the Hokage Monument. Kakashi is seen as he greets foreign dignitaries like Gaara and Killer B.

A few months later, Kakashi becomes increasingly worried about the disappearances, despite the best attempts of Konoha, Kiri, and Kumo trying to solve the mystery. Kakashi suspects a genjutsu user was behind it and wants Sasuke to assist due to his Sharingan and Rinnegan being able to cast out genjutsu. Soon after Shizune, Sakura, Naruto and Sai come into his office to inform Kakashi that Sai has been in touch with Sasuke and there are no updates on the disappearances. Sakura reveals that she was doing some research and discovered that there have been other disappearances involving Konoha shinobi, including a regular patron of Ino's family named Tadaichi.

Later on Kakashi quickly responds to Sasuke's message and informs Sasuke of the attack on Konoha. After the ordeal with Chino and Nowaki, Kakashi visits them in prison. Kakashi tells them the Mizukage wants them to work for Kirigakure and Kumogakure is willing to forgive them if they accept working for it as well. Chino and Nowaki accept in order to repent for their crimes. He also has Naruto join him, and hears Naruto say that Sasuke's influence changed them.

Epilogue

When Naruto became afflicted with an unknown illness, Kakashi found information about how the Sage of Six Paths had the same illness and found a cure in the Land of Redaku. Because the Land of Fire doesn't have diplomatic relations there, Kakashi became a tutor to Prince Nanara as his cover to infiltrate the land, using the opportunity to search through their records for more information. He passed his discovery along to Shikamaru to be delivered to Sasuke who was already investigating the land.

13 years later, Kakashi would trust in Naruto's capabilities enough to name him his successor as the Seventh Hokage. On the day of Naruto's inauguration, Kakashi was dismayed by the fact that Naruto was late. After Hinata left, Kakashi spoke to Shikamaru about wondering what Naruto is up. Unable to wait any longer, it was decided that Sarutobi Konohamaru would disguise himself as Naruto and accept the position for him.

While enjoying retirement from shinobi activity, when learning about the mysterious attacks on the village, Kakashi returned to the village to begin his own investigation. Eventually, he learned that the incident was connected to an old project from Root called Gozu-Tenno which involved the cells of the First Hokage. Kakashi then reported his findings to Naruto and Shikamaru, who also learned that the culprit behind the attacks was Sumire Kakei, the daughter of Tanuki Shigaraki a vengeful follower of Danzo's. Realizing that Sumire planned to unleash the creature on the village now that it was nearing completion, Kakashi went in search of the rogue student.

He arrived shortly after Sumire unleashed the Nue. While severing the creature's tail, it quickly grew dozens of smaller tails, which it used to steal chakra from Sai's men. After saving them, Kakashi organized the team to hold off the creature. As Naruto arrived and prepared to enter his Chakra Mode, Kakashi stopped him, explaining that the creature's intention was to gather enough chakra to produce a powerful explosion to destroy the village. The creature then suddenly teleported away, much to Kakashi's surprise. Kakashi deduced that while this creature was a summoning, it uniquely existed normally in a separate dimension, leaving others unable to follow it.

On the day of the Five Kage Summit, Kakashi was seen visiting Guy while waiting for his escort, Sarutobi Mirai to arrive. As Guy questioned whether it was okay for Kakashi not to accompany Naruto to the Summit, Kakashi mused that the older generation shouldn't needlessly interfere in the affairs of the newer one, and expressed his desire to revisit places he considered sentimental.

Kakashi pushes Guy's wheelchair along the road, discussing birds with him and reminiscing about the past.

Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai stop for the night at a town that is well within the Land of Fire's borders, but where the Land of Hot Water is at least visible in the distance. Kakashi and Guy are drawn to a target-throwing game, yet both entirely fail to hit any of the targets. Mirai is mortified by this, especially when a young girl after then immediately wins a prize. While she wonders about Kakashi and Guy's supposedly legendary skills, Kakashi's wallet is abruptly stolen by a pickpocket. Mirai chases after the man, captures him with Demonic Illusion: Tree Binding Death, and turns him over to the local police.

In addition to being increasingly doubtful about Kakashi's abilities, Mirai is infuriated when she finds Kakashi and Guy laughing upon her return. Kakashi explains that the wallet was a decoy and that there was nothing in it. He also notes that, though he could have stopped the thief with a lightning attack, they're supposed to be undercover and so can't be using flashy jutsu. While this answers some of Mirai's more immediate concerns, she remains suspicious by the rapture with which Kakashi is taking in the sights, feeling it's inappropriate for someone his age. When Kakashi starts fawning over locations around town from the film adaptation of Icha Icha Paradise, Mirai, unfamiliar with the book, asks Guy what the it's about. Guy is made uncomfortable by the question and changes the subject, instead suggesting that she use this vacation as a chance to train.

Mirai is deeply depressed to learn that what she thought was a secret mission is just a cover story to give Kakashi and Guy a chance to tour some hotsprings. What's more, she worries what this says about Naruto's opinion of her abilities since he recommended her for the mission. Nevertheless, she remains intent on doing her duty as a bodyguard by watching Kakashi and Guy from a distant tree as they eat dinner; Kakashi seems unaware of Guy taking food from his plate, once again making Mirai question the stories she's heard about him. In an instant, Kakashi vanishes from the dinner table and appears at her side, surprising her.

Kakashi invites Mirai to join them and she accepts, noting that it's natural for her to do so since she's their attendant. Kakashi remarks that she's quite similar to Asuma when he was her age, as he also became too stiff in his responsibilities because of all the pressures he was under. Asuma was eventually able to loosen up, and Naruto hopes Mirai will do the same, hence why he sent her on the mission. As Mirai becomes embarrassed to hear of Naruto's concern for her, Kakashi adds that Mirai is also not doing a good job of following the "secret" part of their mission, as sitting in a tree draws attention to them. Mirai apologizes and promises to start having more fun like Kakashi and Guy are doing.

Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai scout the roads that run through the border region between the lands of Fire and Hot Water, updating the maps they brought with them as needed. As they take a break on the trail, Kakashi and Guy get into a debate over which is superior: physical energy or spiritual energy. Since neither can convince the other, they look to Mirai to be the tie-breaker. She tries to compromise by saying that both have their merits, and when this fails she changes the subject by pointing out that it will get dark soon.

Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai arrive in a nearby hotspring town that lies on the border. Because it is equal parts in the Land of Fire and the Land of Hot Water, the town cannot truly be said to reside in either country. As a coincidence, it turns out to be the day of the town's Quarrel Festival, an annual celebration of when the town's patron deity helped dig up its famous hotspring. The town's residents can't agree whether the town's deity was a dog or a cat, and over the years the festival has become an opportunity for dog and cat lovers from all over to come together and compete for superiority.

Mirai finds the whole story behind the Quarrel Festival bizarre and watches as arguments between cat-lovers and dog-lovers start breaking out. She is surprised when she recognizes one of the arguments as taking place between Kiba Inuzuka and Tamaki, each with their own cadre of dogs and cats; Kiba and Tamaki are equally surprised to see her. Both insist that they aren't here for the Quarrel Festival, but rather that they came to visit the town's hotsprings. However, they disagreed over which hotspring they should visit, the one dedicated to the dog deity or the one dedicated to the cat deity. Since Tamaki brought more cats than Kiba brought dogs, Kiba offers to visit the cat hotspring, but Tamaki is upset that Kiba is so unwilling about it.

Kiba asks Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai to help settle their argument. Kakashi, having his own personal ninken, sides with Kiba, and Guy, determined to oppose Kakashi at every opportunity, sides with Tamaki. Mirai once again finds herself needing to break the tie. Mirai can't bring herself to decide because she admires Kiba and Tamaki too much to want to risk hurting their feelings. Besides, she genuinely likes cats and dogs equally, and has ever since she was a child when Shino Aburame tried and failed to get her to be interested in insects. Mirai tries to compromise by saying that both cats and dogs have their merits, but this only fuels further argument between Kiba and Tamaki.

Some of the dog-lovers recognize Kiba from stories about him (many of which were originally invented by Kiba). The dog-lovers begin carrying Kiba down the town's main street while the cat-lovers, also acquainted with the stories, feel intimidated to behold him. As fighting between the two sides starts breaking out, Mirai worries for the sadness Tamaki is clearly experiencing and the distress that separation from Tamaki is causing Kiba. Mirai pulls Kakashi from the mounting hostilities while Guy is excitedly lost in the fray. Once Kakashi is brought to a safe distance, he encourages her to help Kiba and Tamaki (and Guy), and suggests she try to appeal to the masses with a compromise between cats and dogs.

Mirai uses Fire Release: Flint Yagura to draw the crowd's attention to the area near the town's cat and dog hotsprings. Once everyone is looking, she creates a genjutsu of a giant floating head that is half cat and half dog. Mirai, speaking through the head, implores the crowd to stop fighting. The townsfolk immediately recognize her as "Cattog", the town's fabled third deity that mediates between the cat and dog deities. Before she can address this, Guy, suspecting it's a monster, attacks the genjutsu. Mirai is so surprised by this that she inadvertently lets the illusion dissolve, and Guy crashes into the wall separating the cat and dog hotsprings.

The townspeople fail to recognize Guy's role in the wall's destruction, instead interpreting it as a divine act of Cattog to end the fighting by making the two hotsprings into one. Kakashi congratulates Mirai for fixing things, but she feels that she failed since her loss of concentration caused the genjutsu to end before she could properly resolve the conflict. She is proven wrong by the approach of a reconciled Kiba and Tamaki, who thank her for what she did. Meanwhile, the townspeople find Guy among the wall's rubble, charred black from when he passed through Mirai's Flint Yagura. They believe he is a messenger of Cattog and resolve to build statues in his honor. Mirai and Kakashi gather Guy and check in to their hotel room to recuperate.

Mirai had been so excited by what she thought was an important top-secret mission that she did not properly read the mission particulars before she left Konoha. As such, she thought that what is planned to be a twenty day trip would only last two days. Because she only brought enough supplies for at most five days, she contacts Konoha and requests additional provisions. Tenten, having previously requested a hotspring vacation of her own, is given the task of bringing Mirai the extra supplies. Tenten meets them at the inn where they're staying in the Land of Hot Water after only two days of travel.

While Mirai and Tenten enjoy the inn's hotspring together, Mirai asks how her mother, Kurenai, responded to news of Mirai's misunderstanding. Tenten insists that Kurenai was at worst amused, but Mirai fears she'll be scolded by her mother when she gets home. Tenten tries to take Mirai's mind off this by asking for her thoughts on a new hotspring-suitable kunai that she's just invented. Mirai can't fathom a single reason to need a kunai while using a hotspring. Tenten realizes that's true and becomes deeply depressed by the uselessness of her invention. Mirai suggests marketing the kunai as rustproof and thus useful in certain climates, but Tenten explains that the kunai can only handle the humidity of hotsprings.

As a final pitch, Tenten proposes the kunai as a fashion accessory, something to carry around while bathing in the nude. Mirai can't see the appeal, so Tenten mulls asking Kakashi or Guy. Mirai pleads for her not to as that would embarrass them. Tenten is delighted, as this observation has proven that Mirai understands Kakashi and Guy; she was worried that Mirai would struggle to deal with them, Guy in particular. They begin discussing Guy at length, with Mirai telling Tenten about his reaction to Cattog. In response to this, Tenten raises the theory that Guy, despite his appearance of headstrong bravery, is truly a coward, and that the reason he acts so impulsively all the time is because he wants to appear strong so that others won't feel afraid. Mirai isn't convinced, but both she and Tenten agree that, if true, it would only make Guy even more amazing than he already is.

As they return to their room from the hotspring, Mirai and Tenten see Kakashi talking on the phone while Guy mills around nearby, apparently unwilling to be in his room alone. Tenten tries to confront him about this, but Guy denies it and quickly challenges Kakashi to a game of ping-pong when his phone call ends. As they head off, Tenten comes up with a plan to try and scare Guy with a ghost. She asks Mirai to buy time while she prepares, but before Mirai can protest Tenten's scheme, Guy asks that she keep score. She complies, but discovers that Tenten's request to buy time was completely unnecessary: the game becomes naturally drawn out by the effort that Kakashi and Guy exert and the consequential lack of scoring for either side.

Guy, panting and sweating profusely, forces Mirai to return to the present by asking who had the higher score. She confesses she wasn't paying attention. Guy is devastated to hear this, and is then devastated again by Kakashi's report that he beat Guy by one point. They leave Mirai behind as they head to the hotspring, and when they're gone she's immediately confronted by Tenten, who has made herself up to look like a ghost. Mirai has no reaction to Tenten's appearance, disappointing Tenten. Mirai tries to reassure her it will frighten Guy, and even offers whatever assistance Tenten needs.

As Guy later returns from the hotspring, Mirai is torn between her desire to be a good bodyguard and to see the prank carried out successfully. The latter desire prevails, as Guy is so scared when Tenten descends upon him that, in his attempt to escape from her, he bashes his head on a nearby pillar and passes out. Kakashi chastises Tenten for being a bad role model to Mirai as he leads Guy away. Tenten takes comfort in the fact that she didn't scare Guy as much as she could have, such as by inexplicably applying a mysterious tag somewhere in his room. Mirai is forced to apologize to Tenten, as she removed said tags from Kakashi and Guy's room as soon as they arrived at the inn as part of her security sweep.

Tenten is horrified to hear this, as the tags Mirai removed were charms that the inn uses to ward off ghosts. Tenten returns to her room with Mirai, fearful of what will happen, but the night passes without incident. In the morning, Tenten departs for another hotspring to market her kunai; the kunai ends up being fabulously successful as a fashion accessory. Meanwhile, Guy slept poorly and continually mutters about what he saw the night before. Mirai tries to explain to him that the ghost was only Tenten, but this confuses Guy: the bloodied man in armor who dwelled in Guy's room during the night looked nothing like Tenten did with her costume and makeup on, nor is Tenten able to walk through walls. Mirai is horrified to hear this, as is the inn's staff when she tells them she removed their protective charms. Kakashi slept soundly and laughs without concern at everyone's pale expressions.

Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai travel to the next hotspring on their tour, which is located in a remote village. Even at a distance they notice a problem: in the exact location where maps indicate the hotspring is located, there is what they can only describe as a mountain-size rock. When they finally reach the village they ask the residents for an explanation and are informed there was a landslide the month before. Although much of the dirt has been cleared away and the minor infrastructure damage has been repaired, nobody can do anything about the mountainous rock blocking the hotspring.

Because of how small the village is, the Land of Hot Water can't offer much aid. A few Yugakure ninja were sent to help, but the rock is too giant and too sturdy for the few of them to do anything about it. With nothing to be done, they have spent their days getting drunk, and invite Guy and Kakashi to join them. The Yu-nin rant about how foolish it was to be sent on this mission they can't complete and argue their skills would be better spent investigating the recent kidnappings of young girls in the area. They suggest that a Konoha-nin would be better suited for dealing with the rock, but grumble that Konoha would never send anyone to perform such a menial task.

Mirai becomes frustrated listening to the Yu-nin, not only because she can't tell them that there are already Konoha-nin in the village (herself, Kakashi, and Guy), but because the Yu-nin's remarks and behavior strike her as lazy. Mirai reflects that the Yu-nin aren't bad people, they only need discipline and motivation, just like Shikadai.

Kakashi joins Mirai in her inspection of the rock and notes that, even if they could, relocating or destroying the rock would probably create new problems. Mirai begins to worry about what this loss of the hotspring will mean for the village's future, but Kakashi interrupts her and explains there's still hope: a certain ninja who might be able to help is in the area on a mission, and Kakashi has already requested the ninja's help. Mirai is relieved and waits eagerly for when the ninja is to arrive the following day. (Guy, meanwhile, becomes debilitatingly drunk with the Yu-nin.) Mirai entertains the thought that the ninja in question is Naruto, and so is surprised when it turns out to be Chōji Akimichi.

The Yu-nin are more comforted by Chōji's appearance than Mirai is, whose limited knowledge of Chōji's skills leaves her doubtful that he can do anything about the rock. Chōji believes he can at least make the attempt, and eats the bags of potato chips he brought with him in preparation. Mirai, not giving it any thought, also eats one of his bags of potato chips; this turns out to be his last bag and deprives Chōji of the calories he'll need to move the rock. Guilty and embarrassed, Mirai asks to use a kitchen in the village so that she can make a fresh batch of potato chips for Chōji. Chōji praises her effort as delicious, as do the Yu-nin when they help themselves.

Once he feels he's consumed enough, Chōji enters Butterfly Chōji Mode, causing him to grow giant in size. He begins pushing at the rock, but it refuses to budge, and there are no more potato chips that might offer him an additional boost. Guy, in a drunken stupor, provides assistance in pushing the rock, and is quickly joined by the Yu-nin, the villagers, Kakashi, and even Mirai. Their combined effort is enough to shove the rock out of the way, allowing the hotspring to flow once more. As everybody celebrates the successful restoration of the hotspring, Mirai marvels over what people, regardless of who they are or where they come from, can accomplish when they work together. As she remarks on this to Kakashi, she notices that Chōji, now back to his normal size, is hungry once again. She resolves to make him all the potato chips he wants.

The Yu-nin point out that the giant rock resembles a huge potato, and suggest to the villagers that it become a mascot to draw extra tourists to the hotspring. As they begin brainstorming all the potato-related products that can be sold, Mirai takes the first step in furthering the village's new outlook: she adds the rock to her map and labels it as having potato chips.

At an inn in the Land of Fire, Kakashi speaks on the phone with Naruto reporting that they expect to return to Konoha later that same day. Naruto in turn tells him about the resolution of another matter, and Kakashi is glad for the successful outcome. The topic turns to Mirai and Kakashi concludes that Naruto's concerns that she is too serious were unnecessary, as she has done a fine job. He adds that they have had a pleasant vacation before ending the call.

Guy approaches Kakashi once he's off the phone and points out that, because Kakashi talked to Naruto for so long, they might not be able to reach Konoha before nightfall, which may displease Mirai. Although Kakashi feels that Mirai's fight with a Jashinist like Ryūki was destiny in a way and is proud by her performance, he regrets that Ryūki was able to prey on her desire to see Asuma. Still, Kakashi notes he himself might have struggled if Ryūki had said there was a way to heal Guy's legs. Guy replies that he is alive and that Kakashi is still his friend, which are all he could hope for.

When they locate Mirai, she appears angry that they have fallen behind schedule. Kakashi meekly suggests that they stay at the inn for the night, to which Mirai agrees with a smile; she has already arranged rooms for them and amended the schedule accordingly. Kakashi, Guy, and Mirai get to work relaxing, their top secret mission/holiday lasting one night longer. Later, it was revealed that Kakashi and Guy's vacation was in fact a cover for their working with the Land of Hot Water to uncover the truth behind the missing girls.

Five years later, while trying to enjoy his retirement in a bathhouse, Kakashi was contacted by Naruto regarding a message from Sasuke. Upon hearing about a strange boy possessing the Sharingan, Kakashi noted that while it is possible that some Uchiha survived the clan's massacre, it was more likely that the boy was one of Orochimaru's experiments. Kakashi said he would send Yamato to help out in the search. Based on this conversation, Naruto decided to personally meet with Sasuke over the matter.

Offering his services as a proctor for the upcoming graduation exams, Kakashi disguised himself as "Sukea", a freelance reporter and interviewed various students to better understand their respective nature. After classes, met up with Boruto, who helped him meet with the students. As Boruto was amazed that his classmates all had plans for the future, some as ninja and some deciding to pursue goals outside ninja work, Kakashi noted while the world has become in less need of ninja, ninja skills can prove valuable in other fields. He also noted that regardless, one must always decide on goals if they wish to grow as individuals Later, talking to Iruka in his office, Iruka suggested that Kakashi not be too hard on the students come the final exams. Kakashi clarifies that even in peaceful times, they can't allow students with contemptuous attitudes to become shinobi, and as such will be as challenging as ever.

During the practical test of the exams, the students were left awe-stricken that he was to be their head proctor. It was explained that while Shino, Anko, and Konohamaru would be evaluating the students' respective performances in a 24 hour field combat, ultimately only one student could pass; that student would be the one who takes the single bell from Kakashi's hip. While others were annoyed by this, Kakashi insisted that they already have enough shinobi in this era of peace. As the test began, many of the students began to scramble. Boruto soon found Kakashi and attacked hard, but the legendary ninja easily saw through his tactics. While admitting that Boruto was truly a genius well-above the rest of his generation, he still lacked a very crucial aspect to deserve being a ninja, quickly pinning the Uzumaki down.

Kakashi explained that a ninja with no resolve will only doom themselves, and that Boruto is solely responsible for his classmates becoming so lazy and carefree. As Boruto continued to struggle free from the Sixth's hold, his fellow classmates provided enough distraction for him to escape. Later, having listened the nature of Kakashi words but also to the encouragement of his friends, Boruto conceived a plan to save the capture classmates and pass the test, realizing the true nature behind it. Boruto designed a group assault on Kakashi, but he quickly saw through the façade, easily repelling the entire class' group assault on him. However, this was a trick that drew Kakashi into a group-String Light Formation. Kakashi attempted to repel them with a lighting burst, but the students refused to let the technique be broken. Ultimately, time ran out before anyone could get the bell. Despite Boruto's plan failing, Kakashi passed everyone, noting that they succeeded in the true goal of the test: team-work and loyalty.

Kakashi in the first Naruto movie

Team Kakashi was given orders for an A-rank mission to escort the famous actress, Yukie Fujikaze, to the Land of Snow. Upon arriving in the Land of Snow, they were attacked by three Yuki ninjas Kakashi had fought years ago when he was still in ANBU. It was then revealed that Yukie was actually Koyuki Kazahana, the true heir as daimyō to the Land of Snow, who Kakashi saved years ago from her treacherous uncle, Dotō. Kakashi used his Sharingan to copy some of their ice-based technique to escape.

Realising what Dotō was after, Kakashi switched Koyuki's crystal necklace with a fake one, in an attempt to stop him. When Koyuki was kidnapped, Kakashi, along with his team (minus Naruto), mounted a rescue attempt. Soon after Kakashi returned Koyuki's necklace to her, Dotō captured his niece, along with the necklace.

Kakashi was later intercepted by Nadare Rōga. Knowing his opponent had a high protection from ninjutsu and genjutsu, thanks to his armour, Kakashi relied on his taijutsu and defeated him with his Front Lotus. After Dotō was defeated and Koyuki took up her role as daimyō, Kakashi learned to his joy that Koyuki would be playing a lead role in a new "Icha-Icha" movie. He also finds out that Koyuki signed Naruto an autograph, and is surprise that Koyuki gave it to Sasuke to hand it to Naruto.

Kakashi was sent on a mission of escorting Prince Michiru of the Land of the Moon, and his son, Hikaru, back home. He was joined by his team (plus Rock Lee). Upon arriving, it was discovered that the Land of the Moon had been taken over by one of the king's advisers, Shabadaba, with the help of Three Wandering Ninja. After getting assistance from the royal guards, who were still loyal to the king, Kakashi aided their escape.

Later, Kakashi faced off against the leader of the rogue ninja, Ishidate, but failed to keep up with his opponent, thanks to being affected by a special gas, and ultimately having his left arm petrified to stone. This let the rogue ninja capture Michiru. After his arm was cured by Sakura, Kakashi joined a circus as a diversion, while having his team enter the castle to save Michiru. He then used his Sharingan and a water technique to keep the enemies occupied. In the end, Kakashi overused his Sharingan, and was forced to be hospitalised for several days, thus allowing his team to have a vacation in the Land of the Moon. Two weeks later he is recover, and his team returns to Konoha.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 1

Kakashi only had a few cameos. When word reached Konoha that the legendary demon, Moryo, had been released, and had begun its quest to control the world, Kakashi was sent out as one of the lead ninja to mount a counter-attack on Moryo's assault of stone warriors. This was merely to stall for time while Naruto, Sakura, Lee, and Neji escorted Priestess Shion, who had the power to reseal Moryo. Towards the end of the movie, Kakashi appeared with Shikamaru, Might Guy, and Temari to support Naruto and Shion in stopping Moryo. Here, Kakashi used his Lightning Cutter to destroy several stone warriors. At the end of the movie, Kakashi was shocked by Shion's proposal for Naruto to father her child, which Naruto unknowingly agreed to.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 2

When the infamous ninja of Land of the Sky attacked Konoha, Kakashi was one of the ninja who fought to protect the citizens, and fended off the attack. Later, Kakashi was put on a team with Shikamaru, Sai, and Shino to take down the enemy's ship fleet. After working out a plan with Shikamaru, the team was able to accomplish their mission. After Naruto was able to stop Shinno and destroy his mothership, Kakashi witnessed it plummet, and merely commented that Naruto was as hyperactive as ever.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 3

When word that all the Great Ninja Nations but Konoha were having wielders of their kekkei genkai abducted, Kakashi and his team were sent to investigate, following the trail of the most recent abducted man to the mountain range of Shumisen. Upon arriving, they are attacked by strange animals that injure Naruto and Sai. After the trail goes cold, Kakashi's team is forced to return to the village. Later, a rogue ninja of Konoha named Hiruko appeared and announces to the world via technique that he was responsible for taking the kekkei genkai wielders and assimilated their power with his Chimera Technique to begin the Fourth Shinobi War. Kakashi, who met Hiruko ten years prior, after obtaining Obito's Sharingan and was branded with a mind-controlling technique in a desire to obtain the Sharingan, realizes that Hiruko has not actually gained control of the kekkei genkai he stole and must require certain conditions to obtain them or he wouldn't have waited ten years to go after Kakashi. After theorizing that a solar eclipse was one of the conditions, Kakashi decides to face Hiruko. He also asks Tsunade to perform a technique on him. Later, after visiting Obito's grave again, Hiruko's technique takes effect on Kakashi, making him leave the village.

It is later revealed that Kakashi intentionally let this happen, as he had Tsunade implant a seal on him that would activate his Mangekyo Sharingan once Hiruko assimilated Kakashi. Refusing to let Kakashi sacrifice himself, Naruto went after Kakashi and managed to save him. This unfortunately allowed Hiruko a second chance to assimilate Kakashi and his Sharingan before the eclipse ended. Together Kakashi and Naruto fought Hiruko and found an opening for Naruto to unleash his Rasenshuriken to defeat Hiruko. As Hiruko began to die from his injuries, Kakashi went to him. Hiruko asks how he could have failed. Kakashi says that it was because he chose solitude over comrades. Realizing that Kakashi made the same mistake in trying to sacrifice himself, Kakashi remembers how Obito once showed him the way and was thankful for Naruto stopping him. The movie ends with Kakashi thinking back on his past when Obito spoke to him about refusing to abandon a comrade and he smiles at Naruto commenting on the similarities between the two. Naruto, however, gains the wrong impression, mistakenly believing that Kakashi was homosexual and making a pass at him, which is commented upon by the rest of the groups present. Kakashi hurriedly denies this and chases after the fleeing Naruto, trying to explain what he meant.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 4

Twenty years in the past, a young Kakashi is seen in the line of Ramen Ichiraku grand opening, along with Shizune, Asuma and Might Guy, who are impatiently waiting to eat ramen. However, Kakashi claims that they shouldn't be so excited for just ramen. As Shizune replies that he is in the waiting line too, Minato appears and tells him to get ready for the mission. Guy asks Kakashi if he's not going to eat the ramen, to which he answers that he doesn't have as much free time as they do and leaves. Shizune calls him a jerk and Asuma agrees with her.

At Minato's request, Kakashi is allowed to tag along with him, Aburame Shibi and Akimichi Choza in their effort to intervene in the conflicts occurring in a place known as Rōran. Part of Kakashi's mission was to put explosive tags on the factory in Roran under Minato's orders.

Later, Kakashi is saved by Yamato, though he claims that he saved him instead. As a result, Yamato hits him in the head claiming it's a payback for his future bullying, while Naruto looks in awe at his future sensei.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 5

When the Fourth Raikage was attacked by a lone ninja, Team Kakashi was called by Tsunade. She revealed that the attacker was identified to be Naruto. Naruto profusely denied doing so, but when asking for Kakashi to verify his claims, the sensei remained silent. To keep relations between Konoha and the other villages civil, Naruto was arrested and sent to Hozukijo, which Kakashi explained to be criminal containment facility located in Kusagakure used by all the ninja villages. Despite Naruto's refusal to cooperate, he was quickly restrained.

Later, it was discovered that Naruto was framed to get him sent to Hozukijo so the council members could use the Nine-Tails' chakra to access the power of Box of Ultimate Bliss. Their goals turned sour when it instead unleashed a horrible demonic creature called Satori. During Naruto's battle against it, Kakashi and Naruto's other allies arrived. Kakashi revealed that they never truly believed Naruto was guilty, but instead pretended so as part of a mission that was a unified effort with Kumogakure designed by Kakashi; they didn't tell Naruto only in fear he would blow his cover. Feeling sorry for hurting Naruto's trust, Kakashi decided he would treat Naruto to as much ramen as he could eat. Despite the Kumo and Konoha-nin's combined effort, Satori was easily able to dodge all of their attacks, as if he could read minds. After Naruto discovered the truth behind the creature's power, Naruto became able to launch an effective counterattack. This allowed Kakashi and the others to round up the escaped prisoners who took advantage of the prison being demolished and their seals removed. After Naruto is revived, Kakashi and the others return to Konoha.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 6

Kakashi first appeared with his friends battled several White Zetsu clones disguised as dead Akatsuki members. Later, in an alternate dimension, a different Kakashi appeared who is passionate, energetic, and a proponent of the "Power of Youth", causing his personality to be generally similar to the real world's Guy. He also has a bad habit for wasting his Sharingan for non-combat situations.

This Kakashi was assigned to retrieve the Red Moon Scroll that was hidden and sealed away by Jiraiya who died protecting it from a masked man. He joined his sensei Minato and Uzumaki Kushina along with Guy and Naruto. Having overused his Sharingan again, he was unable to fight back the toads that were summoned to safeguard the scroll. After Minato retrieved the scroll, the toads dispersed. Later, the masked man appears in Konohagakure to take the scroll. Kakashi appeared with several Konoha-nin to defend Tsunade and the scroll, but was quickly defeated by the man's masked beasts.

When Naruto and Sakura return from the genjutsu world, Naruto and Sakura tell Tsunade and Kakashi of what transpired and sets out more guard patrol since Obito was easily able to enter further in the village than they imagined. Shizune also brings up the topic of the letters of recommendation from the beginning of the movie, to which Tsunade replies that she has no intention of promoting any of Naruto's friends to jonin.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 7

Two years after the end of the Fourth Shinobi War ended, Kakashi continues serving as the Sixth Hokage. He has an emergency meeting with the Kage's about the falling of the Moon and if nothing is done soon, then the Earth will be destroyed. He then forms a team consisting of Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru and Sai. He later adds Hinata due to her request to allow her to help them save her sister Hanabi. He informs them about Toneri and gives Shikamaru a special clock to countdown to the destruction of the world.

While Konoha tries to defend from the meteor's, Kakashi is shocked to see Sasuke defend them from one. At another emergency meeting with the Kage's, he and the others vote out against A to use his chakra weapon to destroy the Moon while Naruto and his friends are still on there, as well as Hyuga Hiashi's daughters. They are ultimately given an hour. Luckily, Naruto has Kurama carve "Mission Complete" on the Moon and Kakashi relays this to everyone about the mission's success. In the end, he attends Naruto and Hinata's wedding.

Boruto movie

Kakashi accompanies Naruto to a meeting and when his former student falls asleep, he wakes him up by knocking him on the head with a book. As investigations on Kaguya continued, it was discovered that her creation of the White Zetsu Army was an extra precaution for a looming threat.

Kakashi then attends the third round of the Chunin Exams alongside Guy and Iruka by watching Naruto's son, Uzumaki Boruto, battle against Shikamaru's son, Nara Shikadai. he like everyone else learned that Boruto cheated and was disqualified. When Kinshiki and Momoshiki appeared and began attacking the arena, Kakashi helped rescue falling civilians. He is lastly seen during the end credits.

Boruto Naruto Next Generations Manga

In the anime, after the defeat of the attackers and Konohagakure's recovery from the attack, a Kage Summit was held. Kakashi and the other retired Kage were in attendance to discuss the still looming threat of the Otsutsuki.

In the anime, when two chūnin-level gate guards were attacked by unknown assailants, the village was put on lockdown. Kakashi joined Naruto and his advisors when overseeing Ino probe one of the guard's his mind for answers, learning that Mitsuki had left willingly with the attackers. When Naruto revealed to the others Mitsuki was in fact Orochimaru's son, much outrage followed from learning that Naruto would permit an offspring of the man who killed the Third Hokage live in Konohagakure, let alone keep it a secret. Naruto rationalised this on the grounds that Orochimaru's conduct as changed from before and that his aid in investigating the Ōtsutsuki. Despite this, noting the unpredictable nature of Orochimaru, the meeting ended with deeming the Oto-born boy as a threat.

As the council and the Hokage continued to talk about how best to deal with this, Kakashi voiced his overall approval of Naruto's actions, noting that Naruto would never do anything he thought would bring danger to the village and that the elders wouldn't even consider letting the boy in the village had they known the full story to begin with.

When Shikadai contacted his father via phone, he revealed that Iwagakure was taken over as part of a plan by Ōnoki. Knowing that they couldn't act hastily, Kakashi and Tsunade were sent to meet with the other Great Villages to get their support on engaging this personal matter.

When Konohagakure began a new holiday, Family Day, Kakashi soon found the constantly-traveling Sasuke had return to the village and was struggling to connect with his daughter. Realizing that Sasuke hardly knew anything about his daughter since he had been away for most of her life, Kakashi decided to help out using ideas from his Icha Icha series. Soon realizing that these ideas were better suited for a romantic couple as they only succeeded in further estranging Sasuke from his daughter and even more making Sasuke furious at Kakashi, the retired Hokage suggested asking Sakura for advice since she knows her family better.

Kakashi is seen letting Sasuke read his Make Out Paradise book. As Boruto and Sarada are looking for it.

In the anime, while enjoying his dango, Kakashi felt a bad air about him, worrying that things were going to get difficult for him. Kakashi's fears were soon realised when Boruto approached him for help. To battle Kara, Boruto hoped to develop his Rasengan to the next level as all other parties were unavailable. Kakashi made it clear he wasn't interesting in helping Boruto to train. Boruto relentlessly pestered Kakashi to help him master the Big Ball Rasengan. Kakashi, however, insisted that it was pointless to help Boruto because his chakra reserves weren't nearly high enough to perform that technique. Despite learning this, Boruto was still determined to increase and improve his Rasengan by some other means.

Seeing his determination, Kakashi decided to help Boruto in learning to apply nature transformation to his Rasengan, deciding that Wind Release would be best. In the following days, Kakashi would explain the full nature of the Rasengan and the intricacies of combing shape and nature transformation. As Boruto continued to make serious efforts at infusing Wind Release to the Rasengan, only for it to repeatedly misfire, Kakashi gave vague pointers on how to improve, insisting that this was something that Boruto had to discover for himself. Boruto voiced his envy of Kakashi for having such experience-building missions from childhood. Kakashi, however, insisted Boruto should be glad to born into an era of relative peace because it means he was not alone. Upon realizing this, Boruto used a shadow clone to aid him in perfecting the Wind Release: Rasengan, impressing Kakashi to see Boruto having to inherited so much from both his father and paternal grandfather.

Despite this accompilishment, Boruto deemed that this increase in power wasn't enough to defeat his foe and began training to strengthen his new Rasengan. Kakashi insisted that with Boruto's current level of chakra, he had reached the limits of how far he can push the Rasengan. However, Boruto refused to listen and continued training.

Kakashi Despite leaving to let Boruto train on his own, Kakashi decided to watch Boruto from afar, intrigued by how Boruto seemed to have found an alternate solution. The following day, Boruto approached Kakashi again, proudly claiming that he could "move mountains" now. Seeing that Boruto really pushed himself in training, Kakashi decided to put him to the test. He got Morino Ibiki to transfer Shojoji from prison to a police facility to face off against Boruto. While Ibiki was concerned by this, Kakashi promised to take full responsibility. As Shojoji reminded Kakashi that he only agreed to this if his sentence was reduced, Kakashi swore he would keep his word, but that also meant that Shojoji would have to actually defeat Boruto. During the match, Shojoji's Wind Release: Shield of the Wind Count proved as powerful against Boruto's attacks as previously. This prompted to Boruto unleash his new High Compression Rasengan. Its power proved able to easily overpower Shojoji's defenses and swiftly defeat him. As Kakashi commended Boruto for coming up with the alternate plan condensing his Rasengan rather than expand it, Boruto collapsed from his long hours of training finally catching up to him, still impressing Kakashi at Boruto's capacities.

Kakashi brought Boruto back to the hospital to recover. Upon his awakening, Kakashi applauded Boruto's accomplishments, but warned him of the dangers to his new technique. Noting that the Compression Rasengan comes with great recoil that can cause great strain on his arm, it is not a technique that Boruto should use often.

Later, after the defeat of Victor, and the fall of his company, they learned that the elder was in league with Kara. They were horrified to learn of Victor's attempt to recreate the God Tree. Following an investigation of the company, they realised that Kara had spies throughout the world. In light of this news, the question of whether or not to close the gates to the village came up. Kakashi voiced his opinion that closing off from the outside world would stunt growth.

In the anime, Kakashi attended the memorial service for the fallen people of the Fourth Shinobi War.

In the anime, following Jigen's attack on the village, the archives were broken into and data was stolen. Kakashi began his own investigation. He soon found Team 10's genin trying to find the culprit as well. Impressed by how quickly they found the culprit's hideout, he decided to work with them. Soon, they found the culprit, Koji Kashin, who then made an escape. As he snuck into the crowd, Kakashi realized that he went underground in the sewer. He decided to go alone after determining the foe was too dangerous for genin. Along the way, Shikadai contacted Kakashi via communicators that the sewers have an opening at the Thunder Rail. Kakashi then realised that the sewer and train were both a diversion for Koji's true objective. He arrived before Koji at another archive site, which housed data on a scroll not yet digitized from before the Fourth Shinobi World War. Kakashi quickly pressured Koji into retreating from the village. Later, Shikadai voiced his theory that the reason why Koji was able to slip past the Sensing Barrier unnoticed is because he is a former Konoha-nin. Kakashi agreed that it would also explain why he was after the scroll.

In the anime, Kakashi roped Boruto into helping him with shopping errands. During which, they stumbled into a feud between a family from the Old Town section of Konoha and a family from the New City section. The feud was over the New City deciding to host a fireworks display before the Old Town's annually scheduled display. When learning that the son and daughter of each family wanted to get married with their respective grandfathers attendance, Boruto was determined to help end the feud. While originally not wanting to get involved, Kakashi was persuaded to help when offered a rare 1st edition copy of "Icha Icha" vol. 5 with a hidden extended ending he always wanted to read. While talking to one of the grandfathers, Kakashi realised that the two old men were actually dear friends before the feud. When discussions between the families quickly broke down, Kakashi suggested that the two families show off their firewords at the same time, and the more praised family would be in charge of all future displays. During the display, both families' displays were secretly switched with the other by Kakashi. The event made the families realize how petty their feud was and they reconciled. Later, when Boruto asked Kakashi what he thought of the book, Kakashi said he was taking his time, but knew it would have a happy ending like the newly-married couple.

Quotes

Relationships

Hatake Sakumo

Sakumo is Kakashi's father. During Kakashi's childhood, he shared a close relationship with his father admired Sakumo's skilled abilities. However, as Sakumo fell into a depression over being condemned for choosing to save his comrades rather than completing his mission, he ultimately committed suicide. His father's suicide left a deep scar on Kakashi, to the point where he concluded finishing a mission came before the welfare of his comrades and taking on a more strict attitude towards his friends. He would keep up with this way of life until the death of his comrade, Uchiha Obito. Once Kakashi made contact with Sakumo after battling Pain, he finally forgave his father for what he did.

Maito Dai

Maito Gai

Maito Gai is Kakashi's greatest rival and his good friend. Since they first met on the day of their entrance into the Ninja Academy, the two became rivals over who was the strongest. Initially, Kakashi disliked Guy and found him to be annoying, and Guy equally disliked him and found him to be arrogant. However, it would ironically be their competitive rivalry that would bring them together and bond as friends. As they grew into adulthood, they came to understand each other the most. Despite their personalities being polar opposites, they are very friendly with each other and are easily able to work together.

That doesn't mean Kakashi doesn't get annoyed with Guy when the latter embarrasses him and others. Guy supports Kakashi becoming the Sixth Hokage, even insisting they have one final race to enjoy their rivalry since it would likely be their last chance to do so. During the war, when Guy was prepared to open the Eighth Gates to defeat Madara, Kakashi was against it out of worry for his friend because it would result in Guy's death. This act nearly kills Guy but he survives after Naruto saves him from Madara and his right leg is damaged beyond repair, ending his ninja career. Despite this, Guy and Kakashi remain good friends, with Kakashi visiting Guy after his retirement as Hokage.

Uzumaki Naruto

After Uzumaki Naruto was assigned to Squad 7, Kakashi initially saw Naruto as a slacker who didn't understand the meaning of teamwork. Kakashi was assigned to be Naruto's teacher by the Third Hokage due to Naruto's father being his sensei and to help Kakashi reconcile with his feelings of guilt for being unable to save Minato and Kushina. As he watched over him, Kakashi soon came to understand that Naruto's unpredictability was his greatest asset and he also came to believe in Naruto, whom he labeled as Konoha's "Show-Off, Number One Unpredictable, Noisy Ninja".

In turn, Naruto would cherish the lessons he learned from Kakashi about friendship and teamwork. After his failed attempt to bring Sasuke back, Kakashi trains Naruto in nature transformation, discovering Naruto possesses the Wind Nature, and becoming amazed of how Naruto was able to accomplish a new jutsu with the Rasengan in such a short time period. Kakashi acknowledges that Naruto is more than capable of surpassing the Fourth Hokage, Minato, and before long, Kakashi admits that Naruto surpassed him long ago. With Kakashi's help, Naruto creates and masters the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, which becomes one of the most powerful techniques in his arsenal. When Pain attacked Konoha to find Naruto, Kakashi refused to reveal his student's whereabouts and fought Pain to his death, proving his loyalty and devotion to Naruto. When Naruto learned of Kakashi's death, he was enraged but was alter surprised and relieved when Kakashi was revived.

Kakashi sees so much of his best friend, Obito, in Naruto and has noted that Naruto's ideals and personality is so much like Obito's when he was a child. Kakashi also sees some of his sensei's (and Naruto's father) in Naruto, so much that he momentarily mistook Naruto for Minato upon seeing him in Tailed Beast Mode for the first time. When Kakashi began to falter against Obito, he looked to Naruto for inspiration; seeing him as an old representative of the old Obito and Kakashi realized the only way he could protect that was to kill the current Obito.

During the battle against Madara, Kakashi took a moment to reflect the changes of his students, starting with how Naruto went on to surpass the previous Hokage, he became a hero and gained acknowledgement from everyone but becoming Hokage was still his dream. When the odds were against them as they dealt with Kaguya, Kakashi's trust in Naruto never wavered and he would exclaim how proud he was of how much Naruto and the team has accomplished.

Years after the war, Kakashi, as the sixth Hokage, would trust Naruto's capabilities enough to name him as his successor as the Seventh. Although he is retired from active duty, Kakashi still acts as an unofficial advisor for Naruto and accompanies with him to meetings.

Uchiha Sasuke

Uchiha Sasuke is deemed as Kakashi's favorite student on Squad 7. Kakashi was assigned to be Sasuke's teacher by the Third Hokage to ensure that Sasuke doesn't follow the path of revenge and darkness. Also due to Kakashi's own experience with being in the darkness, he could help Sasuke understand there is more to life. Initially, Kakashi viewed Sasuke as an arrogant and anti-social boy with feelings of being superior than others and unwilling to accept help. However, as time passed, Kakashi's teachings of friendship and teamwork began to have a positive effect on Sasuke, to the point where he started working together with Naruto and Sakura more and gradually came to view them and Kakashi as a surrogate family.

In turn, Kakashi came to see that Sasuke possessed great potential but worried he would use that against his friends if he ever allowe dhis hatred to consume him. So, to appease Sasuke's desire for power, Kakashi taught him the Chidori and took him out on top-secret missions. Kakashi, however, never failed to remind Sasuke the importance of his comrades. Due to his influence, Sasuke came to respect Kakashi and felt grateful to him. However, as Sasuke got back into desire for revenge and began turning on his friends, Kakashi restrained him and lectured him on how sacrificing his friends was more painful than losing his family, as well as reminding him the Chidori is used to protect his friends rather than attack them with and how gaining revenge will gain him nothing. When Sasuke refused to listen and asked how would Kakashi feel if he killed his loved ones, Kakashi surprised him by saying his friends were already dead and asked Sasuke to rethink his priorities.

When Sasuke defected from Konoha, Kakashi blamed himself and believed Sasuke would not have left if he had lectured him properly. As Sasuke fell deeper into darkness and became an international criminal, Kakashi was deeply troubled but this turned into fury as Sasuke was more than willing to kill his teammates as part of his goal to destroy Konoha. Kakashi tried to get Sasuke to give up his vengeance by telling him there is more to life than his clan, but Sasuke rejected him and tried to kill him. Realizing that saving Sasuke is a lost cause, Kakashi decided to be the one to personally take care of him. However, Kakashi chooses to let Naruto deal with Sasuke.

During the battle against Madara, Kakashi took a moment to reflect on how much Sasuke changed; how he once desired to kill his brother, Itachi, but with him gone now, Kakashi wondered what Sasuke's intents were now. When Sasuke didn't answer, Kakashi didn't push the issue because they had a war to worry about. However, much like how Kakashi was when he was younger, Sasuke was unwilling to save his teacher and Sakura when they fought Kaguya because he told Naruto sealing Kaguya came before their comrades, which saddened Kakashi. Despite Sasuke's disregard to cooperate with him, Kakashi was still willing to risk his life to save Sasuke from Kaguya. He later expressed outrage at Sasuke's desire to start a revolution and for rebuffing Sakura's pleas for him to return home. As Sasuke said there was no reason for him and Sakura to love each other, Kakashi said he only needs a reason to hate someone and Sakura not only simply wants to save him but her love for him is breaking her heart. At the end of Naruto and Sasuke's final battle, Kakashi saw that Naruto had redeemed Sasuke and expressed joy at having his team back together for good. In an act of forgiveness, Kakashi would use his influence as the Sixth Hokage to absolve Sasuke of his previous crimes but warns him to keep himself under control, or else it will be his responsibility.

Sasuke thanks Kakashi for his forgiveness and apologizes for everything he had done. Over the next several years, Kakashi would continue to act as a mentor for Sasuke, who keeps tabs on the village during his travels, and he would become a surrogate grandfather to Sasuke and Sakura's daughter, Sarada.

Haruno Sakura

After Haruno Sakura was assigned to Squad 7, Kakashi saw her as an immature girl who cared more about Sasuke and her looks than her ninja training. In turn, Sakura found Kakashi to be annoying and was confused by his behavior towards them during the bell test. However, as time passed, Kakashi recognized that Sakura possessed unique ninja qualities, such as having excellent chakra control, and her intelligence was one of her best assets. In turn, Sakura came to respect Kakashi and believe in his teachings of friendship and teamwork, crediting him for helping her form a close bond with Naruto and Sasuke after they had trouble getting along.

Due to Sakura being unprepared for their first mission, Kakashi took it upon himself to protect her and continues to look after her in critical situations. Due to her desire to improve her ninja skills and not get left behind by her teammates in strength, Sakura's resolve to get stronger impressed Kakashi and he decided to believe in her. He was furthermore impressed as she accomplished herself as a medical ninja and developed powerful chakra enhanced release from her training with the Fifth Hokage.

Kakashi is also wary of her feelings, often those for Sasuke following his defection and his subsequent criminal acts. When Sakura opted to kill Sasuke to prevent him from starting a war among the nations, Kakashi rushed to stop her knowing she was no match against Sasuke and feelings it a duty more suited to him. Expressing fury at Sasuke for trying to attack Sakura and risking his life many times to protect her, as well as reminding her that it was his responsibility. Sakura shows great concern for Kakashi throughout the war, especially after Madara steals his Sharingan.

Kakashi also goes as far as to berate Sasuke for ignoring the pain he was putting Sakura through by rebuffing her pleas for him to return home, explaining Sasuke only needs a reason to hate someone and Sakura's love for him is breaking his heart.

Yamanaka Sai

Yamanaka Sai was appointed to be Sasuke's replacement on Team Kakashi. When they first met, Kakashi politely welcomed Sai as a teammate and had no problem acknowledging him, despite Sai being meant to replace Sasuke's spot in the team. Sai admires Kakashi and refers to him as "sensei".

Inari

Umino Iruka

Umino Iruka and Kakashi are good friends. Before Naruto became a genin, he was Iruka's student at the Ninja Academy and was often getting in trouble with pulling off pranks. As a result and due to the fact that Naruto is the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, Iruka had trouble accepting Naruto and couldn't deal with his behavior. Kakashi, who had yet to meet Naruto, offered him advice on how to bond with Naruto in order to look past the fact that Naruto is a jinchuriki. They would continue looking out for Naruto and conversing their teachings to him as he grows into a shinobi.

Uzumaki Boruto

Uzumaki Boruto is the son of Naruto and Hinata. Kakashi is fond of Boruto and he sees so much of Naruto in him, from sharing similar looks to them both having a tendency to pull off pranks for attention. Kakashi thinks of Boruto as a grandson and Boruto refers to him as "Grandpa Kakashi". Kakashi even went to see Boruto battle during the Chunin Exam finals, and was shock upon learning that he cheated. Despite this Kakashi didn't like Boruto's era being lazy as he saw them having potential but they lack the motivation to take training seriously.

Uchiha Sarada

Uchiha Sarada is the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura. Kakashi is fond of Sarada and he sees so much of both Sasuke and Sakura in her; her looking almost identical to Sasuke and her personality being similar to Sakura's. Kakashi thinks of Sarada as a granddaughter and she refers to him as "Grandpa Kakashi".

Uzumaki Himawari

Himawari is the daughter of Naruto and Hinata, including Boruto's younger sister. Although she closely resembles Hinata, Kakashi feels that she got her kindness from Naruto. He thinks of her as a granddaughter and she refers to him as "Grandpa Kakashi".

Sarutobi Asuma

Kakashi and Asuma were close friends since they attended the Ninja Academy together, with Asuma cheering on Kakashi when he defeated Guy during their Chunin Exams and later on expressing concern as Kakashi became more and more darker during his time in the Anbu, attempting to make his father, along with Kurenai and Guy, stop Kakashi before he went too far and make him resign as an Anbu. Kakashi likewise held Asuma's abilities in a high regard, as he trusted him and Kurenai with confronting the two invaders that he believed were Akatsuki members and was concerned about them enough to come to their aid. Asuma likewise showed concern when Kakashi protected Kurenai from Itachi exploding his shadow clone and later on when Kakashi collapsed so suddenly after Itachi finished explaining how far his prowess with the Sharingan exceeded Kakashi's.

3 years later, Asuma, after his and Kakashi's teams had left for dinner, wanted to tell him something, indicated to be about the unborn child of him and Kurenai, suggesting Asuma wanted to trust Kakashi with the knowledge that he and Kurenai were having a child and ask him to protect the child should he die, but was interrupted by Kurenai and subsequently decided against it. Kakashi clearly sensed what Asuma wanted to tell him was related to Kurenai, as he noted he was curious as he watched them hastily leave. Upon learning that Asuma had died in battle, Kakashi was shocked and visibly upset by the loss, attending the funeral of his friend with a sad look. After Naruto no longer needed his training, Kakashi was quick to support Team 10's desire to get revenge on Hidan and Kakuzu over the death of Asuma and take charge of the team in order to appease Tsunade's concerns regarding Team 10 challenging Akatsuki with their team lacking a leader.

Kakashi remained fond of his friend many years after the Fourth Shinobi War and Asuma's death, with him seeing much of him in Asuma's daughter Mirai and being willing to tell her stories of her father that she never learned from anyone else.

Yuhi Kurenai

Having attended the Ninja Academy together, Kurenai, like with Asuma, was also on good terms with Kakashi, with her being seen to cheer Kakashi on as he defeated Guy in the Chūnin Exams and later on along with Asuma and Guy being concerned as Kakashi became more and more embittered and darker as a member of the Anbu, pleading with Hiruzen to reassign Kakashi out of concern of Kakashi losing himself. Kakashi likewise trusted and cared for her, having her and Asuma intercept Itachi and Kisame and later on coming to their aid, Kurenai later being concerned when she heard Kakashi collapse despite not having opened her eyes due to him insisting she still close them.

Nohara Rin

Rin, like other girls in the Academy, was infatuated with Kakashi since he was a student due to his handsome looks and talents. In time, as they were assigned to the same team, Rin's feelings developed into true love. Initially, Kakashi didn't care about Rin, as he believed that the mission outweighed the importance of his comrades and was willing to let her remain captured but eventually changed his mind when Obito lectured him how he saw his father as a great man. When Rin told Kakashi she loved him as he was about to fight an entire army of the Iwagakure shinobi to protect her, he saw himself unworthy of her love and deemed Obito as being the one who was worthy.

After Obito's death, having to promised Obito he would protect Rin, Kakashi became committed to ensuring the safety of his friend. It was never made clear if Kakashi returned Rin's romantic feelings but he clearly had grown to deeply care for her, refusing to kill her even after she asked him to do so. The fact that he had killed her with his own hands and that she had loved him and chose to die at his hands left Kakashi devastated and filled with incredible guilt, affecting him more than any other deaths that followed, to the point where he developed post-traumatic stress disorder, growing depressed whenever others mentioned her and having nightmares of him killing her, which woke him up and drove him to frantically wash his hands as he deluded himself into believing that his hands were filled with Rin's blood, crying as it wouldn't calm him down, as well as at one point seeing Rin angrily yelling his name as she died with his hand piercing through her chest when he was about to use Raikiri, which left him unable to engage in battle and soon unconscious. Even as he recuperated and came to accept that Rin chose to die, he never fully got over his grief and guilt over being unable to save Rin, especially considering how he had effectively failed his promise to Obito. Since Rin's death, Kakashi would regularly visit her grave to clean her tombstone and leave her flowers, even sharing top-secret intel with her such as Naruto Uzumaki's birth, unaware that Obito was in hiding. Even on the verge of death himself during Pain's assault on Konoha, Kakashi lamented how he failed to protect Rin and said he was going to see her alongside the rest of their team.

When her death was brought up much later in the face of the now evil Obito, Kakashi was left stunned and depressed over the fact that his murder of Rin had caused Obito to fall to darkness, to the point of not even fighting back as Obito ruthlessly tried to kill him. He freely admitted he saw himself as trash for failing. Even when Kakashi had resolved himself to kill Obito, an illusion of him killing Rin left him near tears and silenced for a few moments.

Uchiha Obito

Sarutobi Hiruzen

As Hiruzen was the Third Hokage and was known as the greatest of his time, Kakashi naturally respected him deeply and Hiruzen in return was fond of him, the two of them even sparring when Kakashi was still a student of the Academy. His respect towards Hiruzen temporarily wavered when Danzo stated Hiruzen had him and other young shinobi not fight the Nine Tails while it could have saved Minato, but seeing Hiruzen bearing him no ill-will, even admitting fully he had made mistakes and been reluctant to approach the rampage of the Nine Tails in a way that could have saved his mentor and casually pardoning Kakashi entering his quarters without permission and freely giving him the information about Wood Release that would naturally be top-classified, proof of how much he trusted Kakashi, restored Kakashi's trust in the Third Hokage and he helped him stop Danzo's attempted coup. His respect and gratitude grew even more when Hiruzen not only encouraged Kakashi to continue in the Anbu but even made him his right hand man. Hiruzen ultimately started to see how dark Kakashi was becoming in the Anbu and eventually he decided to remove Kakashi from the Anbu and return him to being a Jonin, assigning him to be a sensei so he could regain his compassion.

When Hiruzen died, Kakashi was saddened and though late as he went to the Memorial Stone first, he attended his funeral.
