Uchiha Obito (うちはオビト) was a chunin level shinobi of Konohagakure's Uchiha clan.

Obito unmasked

He was believed to have died during the Third Shinobi War, his only surviving legacy was the Sharingan he gave to his teammate, Hatake Kakashi. In truth, Obito was saved from death and trained by Uchiha Madara. But the events of the war left him disillusioned with the world, and he sought to replace it with a new one. Obito manipulated the Akatsuki from the shadows to further his plans. By starting the Fourth Shinobi War, he has a change of heart by dying to save the world.

Obito arrives late at his Ninja Academy Entrance ceremony.

Obito Uchiha was born on the day of February 10th. He grew up not knowing who his late parents were, therefore leaving him in the care of his kind hearted elderly grandmother. His eternal sorrow eventually leads to his dream of one day becoming the next Hokage so that the people of the village would acknowledge his existence. Growing up, Obito spent much of his time competing against Hatake Kakashi, by being often jealous of Kakashi's natural talent and huge popularity, especially when his closest friend Nohara Rin began taking a strong liking to him. Despite Obito's many attempts to get the better of Kakashi, he never succeeded as he was labeled as a Black Sheep. Eventually, he enrolled in to Konoha's Ninja Academy. While he arrived too late for the initiation ceremony because it was already over with and his future classmates had all ignored him, but Rin warmly presented him with the forms to enroll in which had made him very happy. Kakashi however berated Obito for his tardiness and would continue to do so throughout their time in the Ninja Academy.

After Kakashi had lost his father, Obito watched him spar with Hiruzen the Third Hokage. Obito would try to brag in front of Rin that Kakashi is a closet prevert, and that the Uchiha clan is very great. When Kakashi is fishing at a lake one evening, Obito watches him in amazement from afar away in the shadows. Obito would also even try to get Kakashi to eat at the Ramen Ichiraku bar but to no avail. During one night Obito and Rin were both caught by Kakashi when they were hiding in some brushes at his house. During the night, Obito and Rin learn that Kakashi lives by himself, and are amaze at how good he can cook fish. Obito even tells Kakashi that he is good at fishing. The two happily laugh when Kakashi says that he doesn't want to be a cook. The next day after, Obito tells Kakashi that everyone misses him when he isn't in class. While being in class with Rin, the two cheer on for Kakashi as he fights Guy.

However Obito was also angry that Kakashi had graduated too early than him, but he also begged Rin to watch over him. Ironically Obito had heard that Kakashi was a orphan just like him, and try to comfort him at the park but fail when Kakashi angrily told him to leave him alone. After finally graduating some years later, Obito, Rin, and Kakashi were all placed on a team under the leadership of Namikaze Minato.

For their final test to become official genin, Minato tasked his potential students with taking one of two bells from him in actual combat. As Kakashi pointed out that a lack of three bells meant at least one of them would fail, Obito became determined to not be that one, by attacking Minato alone. Soon after by seeing that Minato was just far to advanced for them to take on alone, Obito agreed to work with his team to get the bells. Ultimately, Minato passed all three of them as they succeeded in the real test: by showing team work.

On the teams first major C rank mission, after catching many cats thanks to Obito. Their team was to safety guard a foreign ninja to the border. While trying to reach their ally, Rin scolded Obito about talking about Kakashi's father. However the team gets attacked by enemy ninja. During the mission, Minato notices they're being surrounded by enemies and orders Rin and Kakashi to go on ahead while he and Obito fall back to take care of the enemies. Obito and Minato engage in a battle, with Minato having to save Obito from an attack. After being attacked by the two traitorous escortees, Minato and Obito arrive to back up Rin and Kakashi, but one of the two traitors escapes.

The last escortee asks Minato to ensure that the scroll is real, as two of them were given scrolls. It is discovered that the scroll was a fake and the other escortee that fell had the other scroll. Obito immediately leaves to save the escortee and the others reluctantly follow. The escortee is found by enemy shinobi and is attacked; however, Obito and Kakashi arrive in time to save him. In the midst of the struggle, one of the pursuers grabs the scroll and they retreat. Kakashi leaves, claiming that completing the mission is his nindō. He goes after the group and attacks them. Obito sends a signal to Minato and tells him of Kakashi's actions, who arrives just in time to save Kakashi and defeats the entire group. Team Minato returns the scroll and completes the mission. However, it is discovered that their team was sent as a decoy and that both scrolls were fake. Another group was charged with delivering the scroll to ensure it wouldn't be stolen by enemy ninja.

During the team's training sessions, Minato's wife would regularly join them to help with their training. Growing fond of the young trio, as she would regularly help with their training, most memorable by bringing them homemade food for them. Due to not hearing Obito thanking her for bringing food for the team, and the fact that he was acting tough in her presence by saying that he wasn't hungry; she asks him if he can take care of himself. However he didn't want any of the food that she made for them by stating that he can make his own food since he's a ninja. At first she told Obito that he was kinda manly, but this led to Kushina getting angry at him by pummeling him on his head and having an argument with him. While having an argument with Obito as the others look on, Obito even called her violent.

The team then took part in the Chunin Exams, where Obito arrived late for a second round in the Forest of Death by having to stopped to help out an elderly woman. When Team Minato ran across an enemy team, Obito attempted to impress Rin with the Uchiha clan's fire technique, but ended up choking on the candy the elderly woman had given him and was soon defeated by Maito Gai. He trained extensively between the second and third round and told Rin his dream of becoming the Hokage; however, he was eliminated from the exams in another bout with Guy, who was didn't even remember him which anger Obito. However Obito saw Guy got beaten by Kakashi, which allowed him to rise to the rank of chunin. Obito did attain the rank some years later at the age of 11.

Ironically Obito would always try to make sure that Guy wouldn't challenge Kakashi when his team was around. As Obito wanted to tell Rin that he loved her. He brought her roses as a gift, but learned that she brought him and their former classmates all together to help get Kakashi a gift because he finally became a jonin. This event broke Obito's heart which was something Rin was clueless about.

Team Minato

During the Third Shinobi War, Kakashi was placed in charge of the team for a mission to destroy the Kannabi Bridge, which would hinder Iwagakure from using Kusagakure as a relief point. Before beginning the mission, Minato and Rin gave gifts to Kakashi to celebrate his promotion to jonin rank, though Obito had forgotten thus straining an already poor relationship. Minato would soon be called to the front lines, while leaving the team to carry on the mission alone. The three were then discovered by Iwa-nin and Rin was captured. Kakashi elected to abandon Rin, believing it was more important to finish the mission before concerning themselves with her safety. Obito however became enraged at the idea and insisted that they focus on her rescue. When Kakashi refused, Obito left on his own, remarking that Kakashi was worse than scum for abandoning his friends as Obito admired Kakashi's father for not abandoning his comrades.

Obito then found the cave the Iwa-nin were using as a hideout, but before he could make much progress, he was found and attacked by a camouflaged Taiseki. Kakashi having a change of heart because of Obito's parting words, arrived and saved Obito, shielding him from Taiseki's attack, but damaging his left eye in the process. To save his team-mate, Obito awakened his Sharingan for the first time, allowing him to see through Taiseki's camouflage and kill him. The two found and released Rin from her restraints, prompting Kakko to bring the cave down around them. As they made their escape, Kakashi's limited vision greatly hindered him, and when Obito noticed he was about to be crushed by a falling boulder in his blind spot, he pushed him out of the way and became trapped under the rubble in his place, crushing the right half of his body. With no way to escape, Obito accepted his fate and made an offering: to give Kakashi his left Sharingan as an apology for forgetting to get him a present earlier.

Obito decides to give his Sharingan to Kakashi.

Rin performed the transplant and once the procedure was finished, Kakashi used his new Sharingan to kill Kakko. The Iwa reinforcements quickly began to further compress the rubble forcing Kakashi and Rin to leave Obito behind. As the rocks tightened around him, Obito lamented that he had finally became friends with Kakashi and failed because he couldn't confess his feelings for Rin. Afterwards, Minato rescued Kakashi and Rin and Obito was believed to be dead, as his name marked in Konoha's memorial.

However in actuality, Obito was rescued by an elderly Madara Uchiha who found the younger Uchiha when the cave-in brought him to one of his tunnels leading to the Mountains' Graveyard. Though his Sharingan was miraculously unharmed, the entire right side of his body from the neck down was completely destroyed, prompting Madara to reconstruct half of his body using parts of Hashirama's living clone. Telling Obito that he now owes him his life, Obito instead declared that he wanted to return to Konoha and be with his friends. Madara informed him that his new body would prevent him from becoming a shinobi again, and that in the end it wouldn't matter. Madara preached about the harsh nature of reality and how he has a plan to change the world. Still unconvinced, but otherwise unable to leave, Obito remained in the Mountain Graveyard to recuperate. During his recuperation, he met and became friends with White Zetsu and one of his many clone brothers while undergoing rehabilitation in order to use his new limbs.

As Obito was finally getting used to his new limbs, White Zetsu alerted him to the fact that Kakashi and Rin were surrounded by Kirigakure-nin and are in serious danger. Obito tried to punch through the wall blocking the Mountain Graveyard, but ended up destroying his right arm and barely breaking the wall. Guruguru, wanting to help and sure Madara would allow it, encased Obito with his body which gave him the strength to break the wall. As Obito prepared to leave, he told Madara he had no intention of returning, but thanked him for saving his life. Madara in turn told him that he will return willingly and thank him truthfully. Using Guruguru to locate his friends, he sadly learned that Minato was once again absent.

Obito reveals that he is in Hell.

On his way, Obito's left eye socket caught a glimpse of what his left eye was actually seeing, but dismissed it as a panic thought. Upon reaching the battlefield, he was shocked to see Kakashi had impaled Rin through with his Chidori. As Rin died before both of their eyes, Kakashi and Obito's Sharingan matured into the Mangekyo Sharingan with Kakashi passing out quickly afterwards. The Kiri-nin attempted to claim Rin's body for intel. Enraged by this, Obito, experiencing a surge of rage and grief responded by using a combination of his Kamui ability and Wood Release sprouting from his body which resulted in the deaths of all the Kiri-nin. Ignoring Kakashi completely, Obito cradled Rin's lifeless body and, with Madara's words still echoing in his mind, vowed that he would create a world where they could be together again.

With new conviction, he returned to Mountains' Graveyard, and agreed with Madara's conclusion that the reality they lived in was worthless and should be destroyed. He vowed that he would create a new reality where he, Rin, and Kakashi would be together again. Pleased, Madara told Obito the details of the Eye of the Moon Plan, the secrets of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, and the role Nagato would play with his Rinnegan. He would go on to teach Obito much of his skills and knowledge; this included various kinjutsu, advanced Uchiha techniques, the Yin–Yang Release, and the power of the Rinnegan. Before passing, Madara also created Black Zetsu by pouring his will into White Zetsu and also left part of his will in the chakra receiver which extends from the statue's navel. Disconnecting himself from the Demonic Statue, Madara told Obito that until the day he was revived, he would be Uchiha Madara and must work to bring the Eye of the Moon Plan to completion.

Obito and Zetsu travelled to Amegakure to meet the Ame Orphans, who were against Obito's claim that he was Madara and his plan to make a world where everyone wins despite Nagato wanting to know about his powers. Yahiko brushed Obito off and told him to stay away from them. Obito, however, stated that he would return to that spot everyday until they understood and came to him willingly. In the anime, Obito watch from the sidelines as the Akatsuki would continue their idealistic pursuit of peace while Danzo would disrupt peace agreements between Konoha and Iwa in his own pursuit of strengthening Konoha. When Danzo decided to frame the Akatsuki for the death of several Ame ninja, making Hanzo see them as a threat to his power. He tricked Yahiko into meeting him for an alliance, Obito saw this as the perfect opportunity to win over Nagato. As the other members of Akatsuki learned of the Konoha ANBU's involvement they rushed to their leader's aid, only to be stopped by Obito and Zetsu who quickly dispose of them. Obito and Zetsu then watched as Hanzo completed his plan to kill Yahiko, with his death mirroring Rin's which prompted him to vow that he would one day have the Ame Orphans reunite with each other in the dream world he creates. With Nagato's personal beliefs destroyed, he finally joined Obito, and Konan alongside him. Upon focusing on acquiring the tailed beasts, Nagato became the Akatsuki leader and began recruiting powerful missing-nin to their cause.

In Kirigakure, Obito at some point took control of Karatachi Yagura (the Fourth Mizukage), in effect making him the de facto Mizukage. After Hoshigaki Kisame became disillusioned by the lies of the world, Obito (as "Madara") revealed himself to Kisame and promised to help make a world of truth. Kisame became his loyal servant, one of the few Kiri-nin to knowingly work for him. During this time Obito discovered the circumstances of Rin's death: that Kiri had sealed Isbou into her to make her a timebomb that would destroy Konoha. At Rin's insistence, Kakashi killed her to prevent this from happening. Obito's manipulation of the Mizukage was eventually discovered by Ao and he was forced to abandon it.

Obito vs Minato

Twelve years before the start of the series, having to infiltrated Konoha, Obito learned from watching Kakashi at a far away distance. That Uzumaki Kushina, Kurama's jinchuriki and Minato's wife, would be giving birth. Obito knew that this would cause the seal keeping Nine-Tails contained within her to weaken. Intending to use Kurama, Obito tracked her down by killing the anbu and her midwives. He then took the newborn Uzumaki Naruto hostage to keep Minato from interfering. Once he extracted the beast, Obito placed the tailed beast under his control and ordered it to destroy Konoha. Using Kamui to keep Minato from going to the village's defence, keeping his true identity hidden while reaffirming his ambitions, Obito engaged Minato before being hit by a Rasengan and branded with Minato's Flying Thunder God Technique, to which Obito didn't know would never disappear. Wounded with Minato's Contract Seal disrupting his control over Kurama, Obito fled while vowing to regain the tailed beast, and declared that he still had other plans. Minato gave his life to save the village by sealing Kurama into his son, and thus never had the chance to inform anyone of Obito's involvement. Konoha's leadership nevertheless suspected an Uchiha's involvement, and to that end placed all members of the clan under heavy scrutiny.

Years later in the anime after Kurama's attack, Obito attacked the Fire Daimyo's convoy en route to Konoha. By placing everyone (but Itachi) in a genjutsu and killing Izumo Tenma, however Obito swiftly retreats after sensing Kakashi approaching.

Seven years after the Kyuubi's attack on Konoha, the Uchiha clan as a result of this mistreatment, began plotting a coup d'état. Obito returned to Konoha in a disguise by sneaking into the village to rekindle the flames of war and with the intention of exacerbating the conflict. However he was found by Uchiha Itachi first, who thought he was Madara and convinced Obito to spare the village and his younger brother, Sasuke in exchange for helping to wipe out the Uchiha clan, to which he agreed. Before they killed the clan, Obito offered Itachi a place in the Akatsuki, which he accepted. In the anime, during the night of massacre, he slaughtered the Konoha Military Police Force and killed Uchiha Izumi. Afterwards, he collected several Uchiha corpses in order to extract their Sharingan for his own use. He also met Danzo around this time, for unknown reasons. Following the attack, he cut his hair and brought Itachi into his organisation. Eventually, Obito hid himself deeper into the shadows by taking on the alias of "Tobi", a happy-go-lucky idiot and apparent subordinate of Zetsu. When he found out that Orchimaru betrayed the group, Obito asked Sasori if he can be his partner, but he angrily told Obito to go away. Obito then took his leave after being told off.

Obito instructed Konan to meet Hidan and Kakuzu near the Valley of Lies to help them investigate reports of a jinchuriki. Konan refused, by saying she needed to attend to Pain. Madara became angry, but before things could escalate Pain assured Konan he would be fine on his own. Later on Zetsu advised Obito to eliminate Konan, believing it was inevitable that she would someday betray them. Obito refused, knowing they needed Konan in order to keep Pain under control.

Obito helping an elderly woman.

Because he was an orphan that grew up alone and without a parent's love, Obito Uchiha's childhood was marked by dreams of being acknowledged. This motivated him to become a ninja so that he could, in turn, become the Hokage and have the entire village recognise him at last. When Rin acknowledged him without his becoming Hokage, Obito fell in love with her and aimed to earn her love in addition to the Hokage title. But Kakashi's presence, both in the classroom and later on their team, became a wall for Obito, since Kakashi was naturally more talented than he was and had, without trying, gained Rin's affections. Though generally kind and of unwavering loyalty to his friends and allies, Obito nevertheless formed a one-sided rivalry with Hatake Kakashi. When not in competition with Kakashi, Obito would famously perform random good deeds around Konoha, especially for the elderly, which in turn made him notoriously late.

He was able to spend time with Rin while she treated his injuries. Ultimately, Obito would never get the chance to reveal his feelings to Rin before his "death". As Kakashi noted, besides his student's rivalry with Sasuke and one sided feelings for a female peer, Naruto shared other beliefs Obito had, such as his desire to become the Hokage and never abandoning comrades on the battlefield. Even after "dying", Obito still cared deeply for his friends and village, and immediately wanted to return to see them again. However, upon witnessing Rin's death at the hands of Kakashi, Obito's determination and idealism were destroyed beyond any hope of repair, and as a result his personality forever changed.

Obito-to-try-and-bring-rin-back

Obito mourning Rin's death.

After Rin's death at the hands of Kakashi, Obito's determination and idealism were shattered. He became calm and focused, no longer caring about his village, his friends, or even his name, all of them being worthless parts of a miserable world that had forced Rin to die. His sole commitment was to Madara's Eye of the Moon Plan and the new peaceful world it would create; every crime was a necessary evil, every murder was a sacrifice for the greater good, and a life that would be restored in the new world. He was willing to sacrifice himself for the plan and, more often, his allies, turning on them the instant they no longer had any further use to him. Like Madara before him, Obito would gain these allies by preying on the darkness in their hearts and manipulating them, either by subtly corrupting their own goals or by appearing to share their beliefs. This is best seen in the existence of Akatsuki, its wildly-differing members working together because they believe the organization furthers their own ends; in actuality they are mere tools that suit Obito's agenda.

Despite how different his adult personality may seem, it is at its basest level very much the same as the person he was as a child. Obito views his actions as a station beyond Hokage; where the Hokage does what is best for the village, Obito does what's best for the world. Though Rin ever-remains in his thoughts, Kakashi and Minato are also present in his dreams of a new world, and it is the hope of reuniting their team under happier circumstances that motivates him. Kakashi theorizes that it is this conflict between who he was and who he is that drives him the most, especially in the events leading up to and following the outbreak of the Fourth Shinobi War; he becomes increasingly hasty with his plans, first moving Akatsuki from a secretive organization to a force that directly challenged the Five Great Shinobi Countries, and later by prematurely reviving the Ten-Tails.

As Obito grapples with his thoughts he at different times takes a special interest in Sasuke and Naruto. With Uchiha Sasuke, Obito starts monitoring him after their first meeting, though he avoids further contact for fear of provoking Sasuke's brother, Itachi. Once Itachi is dead he approaches Sasuke and brings him into his confidence, later remarking that the loss of five Akatsuki members was worth it to gain Sasuke's loyalty. Although Obito states a number of times that he sees Sasuke as nothing more than a disposable pawn, he nevertheless keeps an eye on him, intervening whenever Sasuke is at risk and always happy with signs of his ever-improving Sharingan and his growing isolation from all other allies, becoming impressed with Sasuke's brutality when the latter mortally wounded Karin in order to kill Danzo. In a way, he sees in Sasuke the kind of person he is trying to be: a shinobi who seeks to change the world he deems appropriate through destruction and rebirth. Despite Sasuke's descent into darkness and growing hatred towards Konoha, Obito suspected Sasuke would abide by Itachi's dying wish for his brother to protect the village. This was confirmed in midst of the Fourth Shinobi World War, when Sasuke ultimately joined forces with the Allied Forces to stop Obito, who wasn't surprised by the betrayal.

With Naruto, however, he sees the person he once was: dreams of being the Hokage and dedication to his friends. Because of the similarities Obito has with Uzumaki Naruto, hoping to demonstrate the naivety of his beliefs and the terribleness of the world so that he will come around to Obito's point of view. When Naruto refuses, Obito becomes increasingly angry and becomes determined to eliminate Naruto and his dreams so that he can eliminate the last remains of the old Obito.

Through his inability to overpower Naruto, Obito comes to understand that Naruto's way of thinking was right all along. Moreover, he realizes the reasons for his conflicting desires: he has been lying to himself about his dedication to the Eye of the Moon Plan, suppressing the former Obito deep down. The persona he wore that projected him as someone without feelings or a heart was a mask he wore to escape the painful truths of reality. When Naruto defeats him in battle he in turn destroys the lie, causing the original Obito to emerge. Obito starts to feel guilty about all he has done, and declares himself unworthy of seeing Rin in the afterlife. He spends the remainder of his life opposing the Eye of the Moon Plan and Madara, wishing to keep the world as it is. Believing Naruto is vital to the world's preservation, he ultimately gives his life to protect Naruto. His conviction in this matter is so strong, in fact, that he is able to briefly return from death in order to assure Naruto's victory. Including that he also made amends with Kakashi one final time before fully departing to the afterlife.

While assuming the "Tobi" persona, Obito played the role of a happy-go-lucky idiot who annoyed most members of the Akatsuki. Deidara, in particular, was easily provoked by his vanity and lack of respect, often retaliating against him with comical violence. Kisame, on the other hand, appreciated Tobi's ability to brighten up a gloomy organisation such as theirs. The anime showed that Tobi appeared to have a liking for dango; and continued to act like a fool even when nobody else was around. After first meeting Sasuke, Obito abandoned the Tobi persona – except for during a brief encounter with Konoha ninja. Even without the Tobi persona, Obito had developed a morbid sense of humor, sometimes making jokes, if not perverse ones.

Appearance

As a child, Obito Uchiha had short, spiky, black hair and black eyes. He wore a long sleeved blue uniform with metal plating on the part that reached the back of his hands, as well as a blue jacket with an orange collar and trimmings. The jacket was fastened to the rest of the outfit by two buttons on the collar, and has the Uchiha clan crest at the back. He also wore a white belt, shinobi sandals, the standard Konoha forehead protector, and a pair of goggles with orange lens connected to ear protectors. After he was retrieved from Kusagakure, Madara replaced his destroyed right side with artificial substance from ashirama's living clone. The right side of his face still remains heavily scarred.

During his rehabilitation, Obito grew his hair out, with the shape similar to that of Madara's. He eventually cut it back down to the short length as in his childhood. During Kurama's attack on Konoha, he wore a long hooded cloak with a yellow-orange mask with a pattern that resembled his facial scar, some time before the Kyuubi's attack on Konoha. During his meetings with Kisame, Obito was seen with long hair yet again, but he later cut it back to its usual length which he wears to this day, he also wore a yellow-orange mask with a flame pattern with Uchiha robes and a sash on his waist, during his meeting with Kisame he had a dark kimono and was heavily banded.

As Tobi, Obito created an orange mask with spiral pattern that only shows his right eye, a reminiscence of when Spiral Zetsu encased him. Under his Akatsuki cloak, he wears a black long-sleeve top that also covers his neck and chin, a pair of black gloves, and a pair of dark colored pants along with the standard Akatsuki shoes and white stirrups. On his waist, he wears a thick black belt with armor-like metal plates attached to it. He wore the same metal plates on his shoulders with a green scarf before becoming Deidara's partner. He wore blue nail polish on his fingers and toes (black in the manga). As Tobi, he wore Sasori's ring on his left thumb.

Obito before he is known as Tobi.

After he acquired the Rinnegan, Obito started wearing a new mask made of strong materials suited for the looming Fourth Shinobi War. The mask was white with a purple tint that covers the entire upper-half of Obito's head with a design that resembled the Ten-Tails' eye, consisting of a ripple-pattern with three tomoe around the centre; two of these tomoe acted as the mask's eye-holes. He also dons the Uchiha Clan's traditional clothing during the Warring Clans Period. This attire includes a pair of black pants and gloves, with a white, presumed form-fitting shirt underneath. Over this he wears a purple, high-collared, long sleeve mantle that splits down the lower half and has the Uchiha crest on the back. Around his waist he wears a simple, light-purple obi and a belt. Strapped to his back, he carried a purple gunbai with black trimmings and black tomoe, connected to a black chain that ran up his right sleeve.

Abilities

During his time as a Konoha ninja, Obito's abilities were average at best, struggling to match his classmates from the Ninja Academy. Determined to improve himself, he trained for several months at a time and eventually became a Chunin. Madara saw great potential in Obito and thus selected him as his disciple. Madara's hopes were proven correct, as under his tutelage, Obito dramatically improved his abilities as a late bloomer, becoming a mirror image of Madara in his prime. At age 14, Obito posed a challenge to Minato (the Fourth Hokage) and nearly destroyed Konoha. As an adult, he defeated Yamanaka Fu and Aburame Torune (two skilled Root members) with ease, killed Konan (an S-rank kunoichi), and held his own in a one-on-four fight with Naruto, Killer B, Guy, and Kakashi (two perfect jinchūriki and two experienced jonin).

Chakra

Obito's chakra reserves were enhanced by the White Zetsu matter equipped to his body, enabling him to perform several chakra-taxing techniques without noticeable exhaustion. He showed the ability to absorb chakra, as well as transfer his own to another person.

Taijutsu

As a child, Obito was fairly skilled with taijutsu, though not at the same level as Kakashi or Maito Gai. After awakening his Sharingan, he became able to read and predict his opponents movements, able to effectively counter attacks from Kakko, an experienced Iwa-nin. He also displayed skill in coordinated attacks alongside Kakashi using his Sharingan. Later on, his skill showed noticeable growth, able to subdue various elite Kiri-nin that he fought after Rin's death. In his adulthood, Obito was able to fight against two of Danzo's most skilled ninja in Root simultaneously and defeat them, as well as go up against his former friend Kakashi, a taijutsu expert. He mostly achieves this by using his hand-to-hand combat in tandem with his Sharingan and space-time technique to allow opponents to phase through him and then quickly counter using the elements of surprise and confusion.

He also displayed great physical strength as seen when he threw Kakashi to save his life. Due to his artificial body, Obito's physical strength was increased significantly, able to crack a massive boulder shortly after his rehabilitation, strangle a ninja to death, stop a slash from Kubikiribochō's slash without injuring himself, and hold Konan off the ground by her throat, each while using only one hand. Obito has also developed a near-complete immunity to pain, enough to emerge almost unfazed from sustaining massive damage from Konan's mass of exploding tags. He also survived being impaled through the chest with a lightning-infused kunai by Kakashi and on top of that being slashed across the chest by Minato shortly after.

Obito has displayed a high level of speed. His quick reflexes and reaction time could get rid of a trap sprung on his team. During his encounter with Kakko, his effectively intercepted the Iwa-nin's attacks, creating an opening for Kakashi to attack. He also displayed speed against the Kirigakure ninja he fought, closing distances quickly and landing a series of swift blows and punches before any of them could react. As an adult, Obito's agility was great enough that he was able to keep up with Naruto in his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.

Ninjutsu

Obito learned from Madara how to perform a variety of different types of ninjutsu: he could create barrier ninjutsu, using the Uchiha Flame Formation to protect the Demonic Statue; he could sense chakra, allowing him to predict attacks and locate others from great distances, even in different dimensions; he could perform fūinjutsu strong enough to seal the Ten-Tails.

Bukijutsu

Like many Uchiha, Obito was trained to use the shurikenjutsu, allowing him to throw shuriken with precision for offence and defence. When Madara died, a number of weapons were left to Obito which he has used at different times over the years. Several of these weapons he keeps stored within Kamui's dimension so that he can access them anywhere and fire them at opponents; he is seen using giant shuriken and chakra receivers – fashioned into giant restraining stakes – for the latter purpose. When he fought Minato during the Nine Tails attack on Konoha, he used a long chain attached to braces on his wrists that, when used in conjunction with his intangibility, enabled him to harmlessly pass through his opponent before solidifying to restrain him with the trailing chain. Around the time of the Uchiha Massacre, Obito carried a sword at his waist. During the Fourth Shinobi War he wields Madara's iconic gunbai, using it both as a shield and as a sort of flail for attack. The gunbai can generate wind to reflect attacks.

Body Modification

The right side of Obito's body was badly damaged during the mission in Kusagakure, and he even lost his right arm. To heal his body and replace the limb, Madara outfitted Obito with the same substance that the White Zetsu are made of, enhancing his chakra reserves and allowing him to perform Wood Release. He also gains certain physical augmentations of Hashirama Senju's DNA, such as great durability to attacks, rapid healing, and the ability to survive without food or water. His artificial limb is very strong, able to punch through boulders. If this or another limb is damaged beyond repair, they are easily removed and replaced with the same material.

Sharigan

Obito awakens his Sharingan for the first time.

When Obito first awakened his Sharingan, it already had two tomoe, which at that level he could use to track chakra signatures and predict movements. He acquired a third tomoe after witnessing Rin's death. Obito keeps his Sharingan active seemingly all the time without any noticeable drain on his chakra levels. With his Sharingan he can perform various genjutsu on targets he has eye contact with, either to create illusions, acquire information, or control their actions. Although he is seen controlling six tailed beasts with his Sharingan, his control with multiple targets is not as complete as it is with one and it is possible for some to break free from his control.

Obito has a number of Sharingan in his possession which he keeps in storage should he need them. He uses one of these Sharingan to replace the one he gave to Kakashi, although he keeps it covered with his mask most of the time. He later sacrifices this spare eye's vision in order to perform Izanagi, which allows the user to manipulate events around them. Izanagi ordinarily lasts for only the briefest of moments, but with his access to Hashirama's DNA he can maintain it for ten minutes using a single eye.

Mangekyo Sharingan

Obito awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan for the first time.

Obito awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan after witnessing Rin's death; the Sharingan he gave to Kakashi awakened its Mangekyo at the same time. Their Mangekyo's design is three stretched triangles evenly spaced around the pupil that each curve at the top around the eye to form a circle, making it similar to a pinwheel. Obito does not appear to suffer any adverse effects from using his Mangekyo Sharingan, such as the deteriorating eyesight or exhaustion experienced by others.

Obito's Mangekyo Sharingan allows him to perform Kamui, a space–time ninjutsu with greater versatility than Minato's. Kamui serves as a gateway to another dimensional space, which he can move all or parts of his body between at will. This grants Obito two distinct abilities: teleportation and what is best described as "intangibility". For teleportation, he absorbs himself through his right eye into the special dimension, and from there he can travel anywhere in the world instantly. His intangibility is a more specialised application of the teleportation, where he sends only parts of his body to the other dimension so that he can pass through objects or, more often, objects can pass through him. He can only make himself continuously intangible for about five minutes.

Kamui becomes Obito's signature fighting style to the point that he rarely resorts to more traditional forms of ninjutsu. In combat he uses his intangibility defensively, allowing opponents and their attacks to pass through him without harming him, and then as offence he teleports them to his dimension while they are disoriented so that they can no longer bother him. The chakra signatures of those he sends to the other dimension cannot be sensed from outside of it. Despite how useful Kamui is, it isn't without its weaknesses. Because the two aspects of the technique are connected he can't use both at the same time; if he wants to teleport he can't be intangible, leaving him open to attack, and if he wants to be intangible he can't teleport, preventing him from escaping so long as he remains on the defensive.

Because Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan can also use Kamui, his eye remains the only reliable counter to Obito's abilities. Although Kakashi cannot use Kamui against Obito directly, he can use his own access to the other dimension to negate the advantages Obito makes use of: by teleporting attacks or allies to the other dimension at the same moment that Obito's body resides there for defence, he can be attacked successfully. He regains the Sharingan he gave to Kakashi during the Fourth Shinobi World War, allowing him to use the eye to perform rapid, precise long-distance teleportation instead of the physical contact required with his other eye's teleportation. With effort, he can use his left Mangekyo to access other dimensional planes.

Rinnegan

Obito took the Rinnegan from Nagato's body after he died and implanted it in his left eye socket. Although he used only one eye and was not its original owner, Obito nevertheless gained a great deal of power from it. He is capable of performing all of the Six Paths Techniques with the Rinnegan, but he is only ever seen using abilities of the Outer Path: he can summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, create chakra chains to restrain targets, and use the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to revive the dead in exchange for his life.

Like Nagato before him, Obito uses the Rinnegan to create his Six Paths of Pain, composed of the six reincarnated jinchūriki with their respective tailed beasts sealed back into their bodies. He controls them each with a single chakra receiver embedded into their bodies. Each jinchuriki had the same eye-pattern as him – a right Sharingan (which granted them its predictive abilities) and a left Rinnegan – allowing him to share their vision and coordinate their movements. The effort required to not only maintain this coordination but to keep the tailed beasts under his control prevents Obito from manifesting any of the Six Paths Techniques in his Six Paths of Pain. Ultimately, Madara took his left eye back from Obito, leaving him unable to use its various powers.

Natural Transformation

Obito could utilise all five basic nature transformations along with Yin–Yang Release. As an Uchiha, he had a natural aptitude for Fire Release techniques, and could perform the Great Fireball Technique at an early age. The size and strength of his flames increased in his adulthood, and through a combination with his Mangekyō Sharingan he could perform Fire Release: Blast Wave Wild Dance. He was also seen performing Earth Release techniques on occasion, though he exclusively did so in order to burrow and move underground, letting him augment the battlefield from below or sneak up on opponents.

With the White Zetsu matter used as his replacement limbs, Obito could perform Wood Release, a combination of earth and water-based chakra. Instinctively, he was able to form branches and roots to bind, crush, or skewer opponents. Because the White Zetsu material is partly derived from the DNA of Senju Hashirama, Obito could control the Ten-Tails when he was connected to its body.

Jinchuriki Transformations

Obito seals the Ten-Tails into his body during the Fourth Shinobi War. Upon becoming its jinchuriki, all of the previous damage to his body is healed and he becomes stronger, faster, and nearly impervious to damage. He initially lacks control of his mind after the sealing, causing him to literally swell with the Ten-Tails' chakra and react relentlessly to all threats until he can pull himself together. Once he does, Obito becomes stronger than the original Ten-Tails because he is able to focus its immeasurable power, leaving so-called God of Shinobi unable to compete with him. As the Ten-Tails' jinchuriki, Obito can fly and create chakra arms. He can produce trees through which he can fire Tailed Beast Balls, and later create and control the Ten-Tails' tree form in preparation for performing the Infinite Tsukuyomi. He is unable to use Kamui's intangibility while a jinchūriki, however.

Truth-Seeking Ball

As the Ten-Tails' jinchuriki, Obito is able to use Truth-Seeking Balls, ten black orbs comprised of all five elemental nature transformations, and Yin–Yang Release. The balls are his primary weapons and generally float behind him in a halo-like formation. The black chakra is highly malleable, able to be shaped into various forms for different uses, such as high speed projectiles, protective barriers, explosives, and various weapons, including a shakujo reminiscent of the Sage of the Six Paths'. He can even recreate the Sage's Sword of Nunoboko, with which Obito claims he can lay waste to the world. With his complete control over the Ten-Tails' power, Obito can apply Yin–Yang Release to nullify all ninjutsu the balls come in contact with.

Intelligance

From Madara, Obito learned much about the world, individual people in it, and different abilities from throughout history. As such, it is difficult to surprise him in combat because he already knows tactics ninja from certain villages are likely to use, what weaknesses to take advantage of in different opponents, and how to counter most jutsu. On those infrequent occasions when he encounters something new, he calmly keeps his distance and observes carefully until he devises the best approach to neutralising it. His insight enables him to plan years in advance, accurately predicting the course of nations and knowing just how to manipulate them to his advantage. If any plan of his should fail for whatever reason, he can formulate a backup plan quickly and without being inconvenienced, proving tremendous strategic and tactical ingenuity.

Naruto Shippuuden (Part II)

Kazekage Rescue arc

After the death of Sasori, Obito and Zetsu collect Sasori's ring from his body, which Obito believes will allow him to join the Akatsuki. Finding Deidara after he and Zetsu find the ninja's disembodied ring arm, Obito's refusal to return the severed limb resulted in him being strangled by Deidara's legs.

Hidan and Kakuzu arc

Obito was seen with the other Akatsuki members to seal the Two-Tails from Yugito Nii, previously captured by Hidan and Kakuzu, to the Demonic Statue.

Three Tails arc

Soon after being accepted into the Akatsuki as Sasori's replacement, Obito is made Deidara's new partner while being assigned to capture the Three-Tails. In the anime, they stopped to get a bite to eat at a dango shop during their search. Deidara anxiously waits for Obito to remove his mask so that he could see what he looked like underneath, but Obito turned away, hiding his face. When they finish eating they split up. Obito eventually finds Konoha ninja using the Four-Corner Sealing Barrier and deduces that the technique was to seal the Three-Tails. He informs Deidara of his discovery and they approach and kill the two ANBU put in charge of the sealing.

When they locate the Three-Tails, Obito tries to convince Deidara to fight it in his place. While the Three-Tails chases Obito, Deidara used one of his bombs on it while it was distracted. The rest of the battle goes unseen. After they defeated the Three-Tails, Obito claims responsibility for the beast's capture, saying his technique was flawless and that it made sense to assign him to the mission. Deidara retorted that Obito wouldn't have got far without his clay. Obito fell asleep after making another cheeky comment, much to the anger of Deidara, who "woke him up" by detonating a clay bomb next to him.

When they get the Three-Tails to an Akatsuki base, the Akatsuki members convene and seal it. When they are done they also seal the Two-Tails (the Two-Tails is sealed before the Three-Tails' capture in the anime).

Itachi Pursuit arc

When the Akatsuki later receives news that Uchiha Sasuke had defeated Orochimaru, Obito follows a furious Deidara in his intent to kill Sasuke. When they track him down, Obito greets Sasuke as a distraction while Deidara attacks with his bombs. Sasuke survives the blast and proceeds to run his sword straight through Obito. After collapsing, Obito stands up, unfazed yet complimenting Sasuke for the speed of his attack. Obito provides support to Deidara for the battle's duration, but Sasuke keeps the advantage. Deidara ultimately resorts to using C0 in an effort to kill Sasuke at the loss of his own life. Though Zetsu reported Obito's demise to the other Akatsuki members, prompting Pain to remark that he was easily replaceable, Obito survived. Meeting Pain and Konan in Amegakure shortly afterwards, Obito instructs the former to capture Naruto so they can extract Kurama from him.

Seeing a use in Sasuke as Itachi would die soon, Obito uses his childish facade to hinder the the Konoha ninja sent to find either brother. When Zetsu then arrived to inform him that Sasuke had killed Itachi, having expected that outcome, Obito gets to Sasuke before the Konoha ninja, taking him away. Obito tended to Sasuke's wounds and, when he woke up, offered to tell him about Itachi. Obito tried to befriend Sasuke by removing his mask and revealing his Sharingan, something that triggered Itachi's Amaterasu in Sasuke's left eye against Obito. Obito retreats into the darkness while he puts out the flames, returning with his mask back on to muse about how Itachi never ceased to amaze him.

After Sasuke asked what he was talking about, Obito revealed that Itachi had most likely set it up so that the sight of his Sharingan would trigger the Amaterasu he had sealed within Sasuke. After Sasuke complained that he was making no sense, Obito revealed that it was to protect him, and, when Sasuke still didn't believe him, Obito introduced himself as Uchiha Madara. He proceeds to reveal to Sasuke the Uchiha clan's history, Itachi's secret life, and the true reason for the Uchiha Clan Massacre; however, he lied about his involvement with Kurama's attack, saying instead that it was a random natural attack. Sasuke, regretting that he had killed Itachi now that he knew the truth, resolved to destroy Konoha for forcing Itachi into the life he had lived.

Tsuchigumo Kinjutsu arc

After Utakata was captured, Obito and the other members of the Akatsuki extracted the Six-Tails from him.

Invasion of Pain arc

Obito offers Itachi's eyes to help Sasuke increase his powers but Sasuke declines. Obito convinced Sasuke and the other members of Taka to start working with Akatsuki, the two groups having Konoha's destruction as a mutual goal. Before they could do that, however, he stated that the Akatsuki needed the two remaining tailed beasts. Since Pain was still working on capturing Naruto, Obito sent Taka to capture the Eight-Tails. After Taka left, Obito spoke with Zetsu, discussing Akatsuki's actions up to that point. He went on to say that, although they had lost five talented ninja in the Akatsuki, all of their efforts had brought him closer to "making Sasuke his".

After Taka captured the Eight-Tails' jinchuriki, Killer B, Sasuke gave him to Obito for the Akatsuki to seal. In a flashback about a private conversation with Sasuke, Obito said he was concerned Sasuke would follow Itachi's wish of protecting the village. Sasuke replied that was the last thing he would do because the grief of losing his brother made him hate the village as much as ever and he intended to kill not only the elders for ordering the massacre but all the residents for ignorantly enjoying the peace Itachi sacrificed his life for. During the extraction process, it was revealed to be a fake: a severed tentacle made to look like Killer B. Obito remains silent while Kisame - recently made aware of Obito's identity as the previous Mizukage - commented that Sasuke had been fooled in his attempt to capture the jinchuriki. The tentacle does not go to waste as Obito seals the tentacle, a fragment of Gyuki's chakra, into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.

Five Kage Summit arc

Irritated upon learning of Nagato's failure to capture Naruto and wasting the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique on the Konoha villagers he killed, Obito sent Kisame to capture Killer B while he catches up to Taka while they were half-way to Konoha. Telling them that Konoha is already in ruins, Obito convinces Sasuke to make up for this debt by following Zetsu to the Kage Summit in the Land of Iron to kill Danzo, the acting Hokage and the main conspirator in the Uchiha's assassination. Sasuke agrees to these terms and heads to the Land of Iron with Taka. However, intending to have Sasuke take the Kage hostage for him to facilitate his plans, Obito instructs Zetsu to expose Taka's presence to the Kage.

Finding Naruto also in the Land of Iron, Obito decides to personally confront the youth to figure out how he caused Nagato to have a change of heart, but was caught by Kakashi and Yamato. Rather than fight, Obito told them about the Sage of the Six Path, the truth of the Uchiha Clan Massacre, and Sasuke's descent into darkness because of him. When Naruto refuses to believe Sasuke would willingly join the Akatsuki, Obito states Naruto (as the wielder of the Will of Fire) and Sasuke (as the wielder of the Curse of Hatred) are destined to fight each other to the death. They doubt the validity of what he told them and demanded an explanation to why he is collecting the tailed beasts, but Obito replies that would take up too much time before disappearing.

As Sasuke was about to be killed by the Kage, Obito rescued him. He sends Sasuke away, sending Karin with him to heal his injuries. Though disappointed that Sasuke was not more of a match for the Kage, Obito was nevertheless happy by the development of Sasuke's Mangekyo Sharingan in awakening Susanoo. Obito explained he hopes the Kage would be weaken against Sasuke and be forced to cooperate but he admits that was a foolish idea on his part. He then explained his Eye of the Moon Plan to the Kage and those in attendance, concluding by asking for their support by giving him Killer B and Naruto. The Kage refused, so he declared war on them all before disappearing.

Obito intercepted Danzo while he was fleeing the Summit, fighting his bodyguards Fu and Torune. Although forced to remove his arm because of Torune's nano-sized, venomous insects, Obito was easily able to dispose of the two before teleporting Sasuke and Karin to their location so he can honor his promise to the former. Obito observed the battle and was glad when Sasuke is finally able to fully develop Susanoo. When Sasuke emerges victorious, Obito approaches the dying Danzo to take Shisui's eye, which was implanted in Danzo's right eye-socket. Danzo activated the Reverse Four Symbols Sealing Technique in an attempt to take Obito and Sasuke with him, but they are able to get out of range in time. Obito collects Danzo's body and suggests that Sasuke take some time to rest. Before leaving, Obito asks Sasuke to kill Karin because she has too much information on them.

At his lab, Obito discovers that Danzo destroyed Shisui's Sharingan before he died. Cursing him, Obito gets a new arm and makes plans to retrieve Nagato's Rinnegan to prepare for war. Before he can leave, Zetsu informs him of Sasuke's fight with his ex-team-mates. Arriving after Sasuke clashed with Naruto, Obito seems happy to see Naruto but decides against capturing him due to Kakashi and Sakura being present. Obito advises that Sasuke come with him to as they can deal with Naruto another time. Once back at the Mountains' Graveyard, at the youth's insistence, Obito implants Itachi's eyes into Sasuke before leaving him to recuperate.

Confining the Jinchuriki arc

Obito is soon afterwards confronted by Kabuto, who arrived after mastering his new powers. Remembering that Kabuto was once an Akatsuki spy, Obito tries to kill him for betraying the organisation. Kabuto responds by using the Summoning: Impure World Resurrection to revive five dead members of the Akatsuki (Sasori, Deidara, Itachi, Nagato, and Kakuzu), a demonstration of the sort of "pawns" he can offer Obito in the approaching Fourth Shinobi War. In exchange, Kabuto wants Sasuke.

When Obito asked what would happen if he refused, Kabuto responds by summoning a sixth coffin containing Uchiha Madara. Horrified that Kabuto knows that Madara is actually dead, Obito is forced to accept an alliance, but sets the condition that Sasuke will not be turned over until after the war. Kabuto agrees and sends the summons away. Still uneasy about the revived Madara, Obito escorts Kabuto into his hideout so he can assess his battle strength and reformulate his plans for war.

Obito later infiltrates Amegakure to acquire Nagato's corpse before he immediately confronted by Konan. Obito tries to buy back her cooperation by informing her of his involvement in Yahiko's creation of the Akatsuki and Nagato's receiving the Rinnegan, but she doesn't believe him. Konan turns into paper and engulfs Obito, hoping to use the exploding tags mingled with her paper in order to sacrifice herself to kill him. However, realizing her intent, Obito is able to warp the explosion away - saving both of their lives at the cost of his right arm with the upper part of his mask is broken. After Konan answers his question while she and Nagato placed their faith in Naruto, Obito finds himself surrounded by six hundred billion paper explosives. Konan than detonates them all over a period of ten minutes, longer than the five-minute period that Obito can remain intangible for.

However, to escape the death trap Konan laid out for him, Obito sacrifices his left Sharingan to use Izanagi and survive the attack while losing the upper left side of his mask in the process. Taking advantage of Konan lowering her guard and thinking she succeeded, Obito uses a pipe to impale her from behind. Konan attempts a final defensive strike, proclaiming that Naruto will lead them to peace, but Obito grabs her by the neck as he retorts that he will embrace being the the "darkness" that crushes Naruto's "light". He places her under a genjutsu to force her to reveal Nagato's location and adds that she will die when the illusion ends. When Obito finds Nagato's body, interpreting the corpse's smile as his continued betrayal, he closes the eyes before teleporting the body away to the other dimension.

Once back at his hideout, Obito replaces his blinded Sharingan with one of Nagato's Rinnegan while getting a new arm, a new outfit, and a new mask. Kabuto complimented him on his efforts to gain new eyes, but Tobi rebuffed the statement, claiming that they were his to begin with. When they receive intel from Kisame about the current location of the jinchūriki, Obito decides to go capture them. Kabuto offers to go instead if he is allowed to see the White Zetsu Army, adding that he can makes the army stronger if he is allowed to study one of the Zetsu clones. Obito complies. Much to Obito's displeasure, Kabuto fails in capturing either Naruto or B, but does bring back Yamato. After Kabuto convinces him to use genjutsu and the proper drug to extract intel from Yamato instead of using the Human Path ability, Obito allows Kabuto to use their captive to strengthen the White Zetsu army.

Fourth Shinobi War arc

When preparations are complete the thousands of Zetsus and many of Kabuto's reincarnated ninja mobilize for war. In the confusion, Kabuto also captures Mitarashi Anko. Obito suspects that Kabuto led her to their hideout and believes Kabuto plans to have Akatsuki and the Allied Shinobi Forces destroy each other. Although confident that this will not happen, Obito orders Kabuto to kill Anko. Kabuto refuses on the grounds that he can use Anko to make the Summoning: Impure World Resurrection stronger, something that is in Obito's best interests.

To alleviate his unease, Obito demands that Kabuto demonstrate the technique and tell him how to defeat it. To that end he brings out Fu and Torune, who have been kept under genjutsu since they were captured. He breaks Torune's neck and tells Kabuto to use Fu as a sacrifice to resurrect him. Kabuto does what is asked of him.

When Zetsu later informs Obito that Naruto and B are headed to the battlefield, Obito decides to finally join the fray. He goes to the location of the First Division where he summons the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. While the Statue decimates the Division, Obito seeks out the Benihisago and the Kohaku no Johei, which contain the Gold and Silver Brothers. Darui and Shikamaru conclude he plans to make use of the brothers' Nine-Tails chakra and try to stop him. He compliments them on guessing his intentions and has the Statue attack them while he escapes with the two items.

As dawn breaks on the following day, Obito stands behind his own Six Paths of Pain, comprised from the jinchuriki. Obito leads the Six Paths towards Killer B and Naruto. Naruto headbutts Obito as soon as they meet, to which Obito only responds by pointing out that Naruto couldn't even scratch his mask. Naruto notices his new Rinnegan and remarks that it is the same as the "other" Madara's. Realising that Kabuto has revealed his secret, Obito quietly curses Kabuto before shedding his Madara-identity, embracing the role of "nobody".

Obito has his Six Paths engage Naruto and a transformed Killer Bee. B devastates the area in an attempt to force Obito away while he seals the six jinchūriki, which Obito counters by having the jinchuriki enter Version 2-like forms. As the jinchuriki overwhelm Naruto and B, Obito takes advantage of Naruto's distraction and nearly captures him, only to be parried by Maito Gai and Hatake Kakashi. In the confusion of their appearance, the Five-Tails breaks free of Obito's control but he promptly subdues it. He then forces Son Goku and the Six-Tails to fully transform in an attempt to take control of the battle. Son Goku is able to swallow Naruto, leading Obito to believe that Naruto is finally out of commission. Instead, Son manages to communicate to Naruto how Obito is controlling it. Naruto escapes from its mouth, locates the chakra receiver embedded in Son Goku's flesh, and removes it.

With Son Goku free, Obito quickly summons the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to reseal the beast. He has the remaining jinchuriki transform into their respective tailed beasts to try and finally bring the situation under his control. Despite the overwhelming power of the five tailed beasts, Naruto, working in full cooperation with Kurama, is able to neutralise all of them and free them from Obito's influence. Like Son Goku, Obito seals them back into the Statue. Despite the setbacks, Obito remains confident that he will emerge victorious.

Sometime later, the revived bodies of the jinchuriki, having been kept restrained by a transformed Killer B, are released from the effects of the Impure World Resurrection, causing them to once again become lifeless corpses. As this could only mean that Kabuto has failed, Obito realizes that time is running out. With no other option he tosses the Benihisago and the Kohaku no Johei into the Demonic Statue's mouth which, in addition to Gyuki's tentacle from the fake Killer B, completes the set of the nine tailed beasts, initiating the Ten-Tails' revival.

While the Demonic Statue undergoes its regeneration onto the Ten-Tails, Obito protects it from Naruto, B, Guy, and Kakashi. Despite their combined efforts they are unable to get past Obito or damage him. Obito is even able to turn some of their own attacks against them, such as lightning-infused kunai that Kakashi is forced to send away with Kamui. After this latter exchange, however, Kakashi notices that Obito's mask takes damage. Unable to attribute the damage to any of their attacks, Kakashi tests a theory: after Obito erects a barrier around the Statue, Naruto tries to hit him with a Rasengan. When the attack appears to pass through Obito, Kakashi hits the Rasengan with Kamui, causing damage to Obito's arm. Kakashi concludes that his Kamui and Obito's Space–Time Ninjutsu share the same dimension; that attacks sent to the dimension at the same moment that Obito has transported his body parts there for safety will do damage to Obito.

Now that they have a strategy to use against Obito, Naruto, B, Guy, and Kakashi begin to coordinate their efforts. One of Naruto's shadow clones attacks Obito, but the attack appears to fail and the clone disappears. The real Naruto attacks immediately afterwards with a Tailed Beast Ball, which Obito avoids by retreating to the other dimension. There he finds Naruto's shadow clone waiting for him, having been sent there by Kakashi's Kamui. Before he has a chance to react he is hit in the face with a Rasengan, shattering his mask. His face revealed, Kakashi and Guy recognize him as their old comrade, Obito. Guy, surprised with Obito's presence, wonders how he is still alive, while Kakashi confirmed it to be his former team-mate upon seeing both his Mangekyo Sharingan and a visibly crushed right face. When asked how he survived, Obito dodged the question and instead reveals his motivation; Kakashi's inability to save Rin, leading Obito to hate the reality they live in. As Kakashi hesitated to continue the battle, Naruto instead rallied ahead to stop Obito, who promptly attacks with a fire technique. Right after Naruto intercepts the technique with Kurama's tails, Uchiha Madara arrives to Obito's side of the battlefield.

Striking up a conversation as they casually ignore their opponents, Obito is scolded for deviating form the original plan as he gives Madara his gunbai so he deflect several of the giant chakra receiver stakes thrown at them. Left to deal with Kakashi and Might Guy as Madara goes after Naruto and Killer B, after remembering the events that changed his outlook, Obito tells Kakashi that he has nothing left to say to him and that only thing they have left is a final battle. At first, Kakashi was more focused on getting answers that gave a vexed Obito an advantage. But once Obito's deathblow was intercepted by Naruto, Kakashi resolved to fight his former friend to protect his student.

As Obito questioned Kakashi's resolve, he also noted that Kakashi had used the Sharingan to perfect his Lightning Cutter and had even awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, but remarked that they would see whether or not Kakashi could return from the other dimension in his current condition. Creating a wooden branch from his right arm, Obito attempted to incapacitate Naruto while he warped Kakashi away. Naruto, however, headbutts Obito which sends him reeling. When Kakashi is later thrown by his opponents, Obito takes the opportunity to warp Kakashi away. Unbeknownst to him however, this was all part of Kurama's plan and his opponents' two-fold attack is launched: as Naruto attacked Obito from the real-world, Kakashi, who had been given chakra by Kurama attacked the parts of Obito's body which had been warped to the other dimension. When Kakashi returned from the other dimension, Obito watched on as the Ten-Tails is revived despite Naruto and Killer B's attempt to destroy it and heralds the end of this world.

Joining Madara atop of the Ten-Tails' head, two tendrils attached themselves to the Uchiha to give them control over it. Wanting to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi immediately, Obito was dismayed when Madara expressed wanting to test out the beast's power first. As the skirmish continued, and Naruto saved Kakashi from a swipe of the beast's tail, Obito began to see a bit of his younger self in Naruto. As Kakashi, Guy, and the Eight-Tails all ran out of chakra, and stamina, Obito told Naruto of the futility of his friends' struggle against the Ten-Tails. As Naruto refused to give up on his dreams, Obito told him that there was no need for that as within the dream-world, he would make Naruto Hokage. He then has the Ten-Tails prepare and fire a Tailed Beast Ball, but momentarily found himself affected by a presence. This was revealed to be Ino's Mind Body Switch Technique which she used long enough to veer the attack off course. Obito and Madara soon find themselves shrouded in a shrouded in mist and all sensory methods jammed. Lamenting the futility of this, they have the Ten-Tails clear the mist with a powerful swing of its tail and the two men find themselves face-to-face with the remainder of the entire Allied Shinobi Forces army.

Deeming their efforts futile, Obito explained to Naruto that the members of the Allied Shinobi Forces would go their separate ways when the war ended and that someone else would eventually finish what he and Madara began. After having his statement that there was no hope for this world rebuffed, and being told by Naruto that the majority did not share their ideals, Obito told the young man that he and Madara would just simply have to exterminate everyone else. With the Alliance bearing down on them, the two Uchiha are buffeted by a barrage of attacks which blinded them, as well as robbed their sensory skills once again, as they tried to attack the Ten-Tails as well. With their opposition confronting them directly, as they momentarily stopped the beast's movements in super-heated quicklime cement, Obito and Madara lamented their opposition's tedious efforts as they reveal the Ten-Tails was about to reach maturity.

As the Allied Forces attempt to attack the two Uchiha, the beast emerges in its mature form. They both quickly realise controlling the Ten-Tails will be harder now and use Hashirama's cells to control it better and Obito decides it is time to show them true despair. They both use the beasts power to level several villages until the Tailed Beast Ball reaches the Alliances' Headquarters. The two then discuss how to proceed with their plans and the fact that in order to become the beast's jinchūriki, Madara required a living body which could only be given by Obito sacrificing his own, which was the only reason Madara did not have the beast use a Tailed Beast Ball to eradicate the entire Alliance, leaving the legendary Uchiha at Obito's mercy. Noting that Obito had developed quite the attitude, Obito stated that he always had it, since he never considered Madara an ally. With Obito deciding to teach the Allied Shinobi Forces despair much to Madara's liking, Obito uses the beast as a medium to fire off several wooden projectiles, sending the Alliance into a frenzy.

Naruto Shippuuden 364-1

Obito tells Naruto to join his side now that Neji is dead.

Opting for a pinpoint attack on Naruto, it is instead intercepted by Hyuga Neji, killing him in the process. Capitalising on this, Obito used Naruto's guilt over Neji's death against him while reminding him of the people he already lost and the loneliness he will drown in again once all of his friends eventually die. Though Obito put Naruto in a very perplexed state, even asking him to join their cause, Hinata ruined his attempted manipulation as he had the Ten-Tails attack again. With Naruto entering Tailed Beast Mode again, Obito is shocked when the young man started dispensing the beast's chakra to those on the battlefield. Attacking with the beast once again, his attack is deflected and he later found himself being controlled once more. After the Ten-Tails is immobilised as well, Obito decried his opponents belief that a fallen comrade should live on in their hearts, noting that it would only fester and become a curse.

Unable to move, Madara lends Obito some of his power to manipulate the beast but their attack deflected nonetheless. Upon hearing Hyuga Hiashi declare that Neji's sacrifice would not be in vain, Obito mocks him and his clan for having a system where members were essentially locked in cages awaiting their deaths. He and Madara are later shocked by the Alliance's counter-attack and the subsequent separation from the Ten-Tails as Naruto's Rasenshuriken while phasing through him, cut off his connection to the beast. With this, the two Uchiha are forced to retreat to the ground.

Forced to battle the enemies directly, Obito and Madara collaborated their attacks, which fail to kill any shinobi in the Allied Forces thanks to the chakra cloak Naruto provided each of them. Obito chastised Naruto again, noting that he was contradicting himself in saying that he felt closer to his friends when they died, yet was overexerting himself to protect them. Naruto quickly rebuffed Obito's logic, telling him that a loner like him would not understand. As Kakashi prepared to attempt to warp away the beast again, Obito intercepted him noting that he was waiting for Kakashi to make another attempt. As they both use Kamui on the other, they were warped away to Kamui's dimension.

Upon entering Kamui's dimension, Kakashi reacted first and was prime to strike Obito down with his Lightning Cutter, only to hesitate which surprised Obito that Kakashi of all people would hesitate against an enemy. Obito then questioned whether or not Kakashi had a guilty conscience due to the fact that he couldn't keep his promise. Attempting to stop the fighting, Kakashi pleaded with Obito to stop fighting, and reminded him of his former dream to become Hokage which Naruto now possesses, and that he was unconsciously overlapping Naruto with himself in order to avoid seeing his former self reject the man he became. Kakashi then told Obito that he could return to his former self, to which the Uchiha responded with laughter. Revealing that he knew the truth about Rin's death all along, Obito informed Kakashi that he didn't start the war for the two of them, before purposely walking towards Kakashi's Lightning Cutter and impaling himself — recreating the scene where Rin was impaled by the same technique. Obito noted that it was the "fake" world they live in that made him lose hope. Kakashi continued insisting that Obito still felt the way Naruto does, but Obito steps back, revealing the hole in his chest, proclaimed that there was nothing left in his heart. He then told Kakashi that there was no reason for him to feel guilty, that the hellish world they lived in was to blame for what he had become.

Despite Kakashi's insistence that he still felt the way Naruto does, Obito stepped back and used the illusion of his injury to clarify that the hellish world they lived in was to blame for the hollowed man he has become. From there, Obito tried to sway Kakashi to his views, using illusions of his younger self and Rin to appeal to Kakashi's happier memories. However, destroying the illusions, Kakashi refused Obito's offer of a dream world on the grounds that it would never heal one's pain while their reality is not all cruel as having friends eases that suffering. Obito scoffed at Kakashi's words, saying that attachments like that are the source of suffering, but was taken back by Kakashi who reminds Obito of the lesson he taught him and that he will make him accept his ideals again by force if needed. Their battle then raged on, resulting in Obito and Kakashi stabbing each other with their respective attacks. Calling for an end to the games, both men dispel the genjutsu they were casting and being their real battle.

This battle resulted in with Obito being mortally wounded by Kakashi's Lightning Cutter-enhanced kunai while he had stabbed Kakashi in the side non-fatally, causing Obito who declared that the war was not yet won to retreat to the real world. Fleeing back to the real world fatally wounded, Madara who sensed Obito's presence on the battlefield once again and noted that he had no more use for Obito and solemnly expressed his regret at not being able to fight Hashirama properly before becoming the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki. Madara then proceeded with his plan and caused the embedded chakra receivers in Obito's body to sprout out. As the right half of Obito's body turned black, the young Uchiha is seemingly forced to use the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique in order to revive Madara. As the technique takes time to activate, Sasuke (who now sides with the Allied Forces) and Naruto race towards Obito to attempt to stop him from completing the Samsara of Heavenly Life before Obito is cut down by Minato, who realised that he was the masked man who attacked Konoha years prior. However, Obito managed to resist Madara's control and seal the Ten-Tails, foiling Madara's attempt at revival in the process. Now the beast's jinchuriki, Obito was able to destroy both the Sage Art: Gate of the Great God and the Four Red Yang Formation with ease. As Hashirama and the other Hokage noted that Obito's power is now superior to that of the God of the Shinobi, the Uchiha used his new-found powers to destroy large portions of Hashirama and Tobirama's bodies.

Obito soon found himself plastered with explosive tags planted by Tobirama who was able to retaliate to his previous attack. As the explosions detonate, he is shocked to find himself restrained by Hashirama's wood clone and confronted by Tobirama once again. As the Second noted that this technique was one created based off the fighting style for the reincarnated, Obito is bombarded by an onslaught of explosive tags. He, however, emerged from the blast unscathed as the mysterious black substance continued to protect him. Confronted by Sarutobi Hiruzen, Obito continued to use the substance to cut through the attacks and ultimately destroyed the Third's body as well. Moving to attack again, Obito is shocked when his body abnormally expanded, Minato used the opportunity to attack him in his vulnerable state. Obito is, however, able to counter not only Minato's attack but launch an attack on Naruto as well. Though this attack is initially deflected by Sasuke, Obito is able to break through Susanoo's defence and attack the two young shinobi.

Puzzled at what had happened when the two suddenly disappeared, avoiding his attack in the process, Obito freed the rest of his body before undergoing yet another unwanted modification as he struggled to get accustomed to being the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki. Launching an attack during that time, it becomes clear that Obito is fighting for control of his body against the Ten-Tails and lost the aim of this attack resulting in destroying the right side of his body. Meanwhile in his subconscious, Obito fights to regain control of his consciousness, focusing on a single image of his old team. As the image was ripped apart, so was Obito ripped limb from limb until he was finally able to subjugate the Ten-Tails' power. Emerging from this in a new form even more reminiscent of the Sage of the Six Paths, Obito exclaimed that he had finally taken control before attacking his former teacher. Though Minato seemingly escaped, Obito drew his attention to the ball of mysterious substance which he had left attached to Minato, which had begun to glow and expand.

When Tobirama managed to return the ball to him, Obito was caught in the explosion, but immediately resurfaced unharmed, shielded by the mysterious substance. Countering several attacks from both Tobirama and Minato, as well as another Scorch Release: Halo Gale Jet Black Arrow Style Zero and a Starch Syrup Gun from Gamakichi, Obito hovered into the sky, using his supreme command of Yin-Yang Release to nullify their ninjutsu. When his former teacher, Minato, confronted him with his former ideals and his dream to become Hokage, Obito confronted Minato with his failure to stop both his fall and his attack on Konohagakure sixteen years ago, and how it was from him that he learned how pitiful the position of a Hokage is. This lead Naruto to angrily tell Obito that he should not look down on a position only because he was unable to obtain it. With the aid of Tobirama's Flying Thunder God technique, he then successfully strikes Obito with a Rasengan while in Sage Mode, revealing Obito's weakness against Senjutsu.

Noting to himself as he emerged from the rubble that the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki had a weakness such as this and his inability to proper utilise his Kamui technique, Obito declared that the world was coming to an end and that it was about time that he continued the Eye of the Moon plan. Creating an enormous tree in the midst of the Alliance, the four flowers on the plant started to charge a Tailed Beast Ball to attack them with. Obito then quickly traps everyone on the battlefield within the barrier noting that he would not allow them to escape so easily. As he wrapped himself in the mysterious, black substance in preparation for the blow, he decried Minato once again noting that it was the anniversary of Rin,Minato and Kushina's death as well. His berating of Minato, however, is greeted by Naruto's words that he would not allow the world to end. Watching on from the safety of he mysterious black substance which had encapsulated him at that point, Obito noted as the Alliance once again got enveloped in Version 1 chakra cloaks that something of that low calibre would not stop his attack. As he willed the world to disappear and launched the balls, Obito was shocked in the aftermath to see that there were no casualties within the barrier. As Naruto and Minato then tried to perform a sage-enhanced Tailed Beast Ball, Obito manifested the Ten-Tails to begin his Eye of the Moon Plan. The Ten-Tails changed into its final form of Shinju, the god tree, whose branches sought out the shinobi, absorbing all their chakra, killing them. Obito told the shinobi they should rest, having suffered enough, promising their suffering will stop with the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

Capitalising on the shinobi's despair even more, he informed them all that they would not be killed once they surrendered and that their lives would be spared if they resigned themselves to their fate. Despite the grim situation the Allied Forces faced, Naruto's resolve and memories, transferred to his allies telepathically, restored the great army's will to fight, surprising Obito. Obito then was forced to defend himself against the senjutsu-enhanced Naruto and Sasuke's combined attacks, becoming increasingly infuriated with Naruto's unbreakable will. Continuing his battle with the duo, Obito begins to outmanoeuvre the two as well as bolster his defensive stance. As he once again gains the upper-hand on them, he takes the time to decry Naruto's beliefs noting good will ever come out of them. Sending the two crashing to the ground beneath him, he questioned Naruto about why he refused to stay down; the young man's response that he never goes back on his word is his ninja way only served to incense Obito more.

After Sasuke's final Susanoo and Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode combined, similar to what Madara did in the past during his battle with Hashirama, Obito manifested the Sage of Six Path's holy sword that was used to create the world, the Sword of Nunoboko. Obito then clashed with Sasuke, Naruto, and the rest of Konoha 11 with the exceptions of Neji and Sakura. During the clash, Obito began to imagine how his life would have ended up had he returned to Konoha after Rin died, reunited with to battle alongside his friends, and ultimately became Hokage. This distraction allows Naruto, Kurama and their comrades to slash through Obito.

The blow weakens Obito's hold on the Ten-Tails, allowing Naruto, who had obtained a portion of chakra from each of tailed beasts of Obito's Six Paths of Pain, begins to forcefully drag out the demon chakra inside Obito. As the entire Allied Shinobi Forces begin to aid in this effort, Obito again finds himself reflected on what could have been. With their chakra connected, Naruto begins to see Obito's memories and emotions, realizing how much they are alike. Obito angrily denies caring about his old dream, too which Naruto says is a lie he can't hide behind a mask. Obito plainly asks Naruto what he wants of the Uchiha, too which Naruto responds he will remove the mask Obito has placed on his very being.

Obito continued to deny his past identity, claiming to have ascended to the same realm as the Sage of Six Paths. Naruto scoffs the remark, saying he is still the same Obito Uchiha of Konoha with dreams of becoming Hokage. Naruto also noted that like him, they both grew up alone and wanted to become Hokage originally to be acknowledged by others and ultimately to help the village. He goes on to say that Obito's warped views are just a desperate means to escape his personal pain. Obito admits that there is an undeniable likeness between Naruto and him as a child, but still insists that his goal is to help the world as a whole. Naruto strongly asks Obito if he really believes in the Moon's Eye Plan, to which Obito, although unable to look Naruto in the eye, says he does. Naruto angrily denies that choice and says that there are no shortcuts to achieving peace, dreams, or changing yourself, noting that Obito was only able to subjugate the Ten-Tails because he refused to give up his memories of his genin team. Naruto notes that while Obito would still have to pay for his crimes, he still has a home in Konoha and insists that Obito come back to his friends, shocking the older Uchiha with an outstretched hand of friendship.

As he approaches Naruto to take his hand, Obito instead begins strangling Naruto, saying he has no regrets on his actions. Naruto breaks free and punches him, saying that Obito is lying as he still wonders about being Hokage. Obito then begins seeing Naruto as his younger self completely, insisting that Rin would hate what Obito has become and never watch over him. As Obito continues to tell himself he prefers to be alone, Naruto grabs Obito and forcibly drags him over, telling Obito it is time to rejoin his friends and not underestimate them. Finally, the Allied Shinobi Forces manage to separate the nine tailed beasts' chakra, restoring the demons to their true form and reverting Obito to his original state. Lying down in defeat, Obito wonders if Naruto and Kakashi were right about him all along, looking at the hand he remembered Rin regularly grabbing to drag him along.

By that time, as Sasuke was about to kill him, Kakashi returns from the other dimension and pins the defeated Obito, accepting his fate. But Minato intervened, having Kakashi stand down after telling him that Naruto's persistent scolding had reached Obito. Obito then states that Rin was the only light in his life and that losing her left him in darkness. He further explains that he felt the world was hopeless afterwards and that everything he's seen along his path confirmed that belief. Kakashi shocks Obito by admitting that he was never completely sure of Naruto's worldview yet states it has a better success rate than Madara's. Asking Kakashi why he would choose Naruto's way, Obito learns that the youth inspires others to aid him.

As he reflected on the past, Obito decided to use the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique as penance for his actions noting that there was no other way to atone for them. While in this weakened state, Black Zetsu emerged from underground shocking them. As he fused with Obito's body, he forced the Uchiha to use the technique to revive Madara instead.

When Minato and Kakashi question what just happened, Obito weakly explains that Madara had been revived. Black Zetsu then attempted to take Obito's left eye and return it to Madara but is forced to stay merged to Obito when he is attacked by Minato and Kakashi. Now controlling Obito again, Black Zetsu stated that he would force Obito to fight them until he breathed his final breath. Suddenly, the Demonic Statue is extracted from Obito body having been summoned to Madara's side. Black Zetsu again attempts to take the left Rinnegan eye. Struggling to maintain control of his body, Obito managed to stop Black Zetsu, telling Kakashi to get ready to destroy the eye. Black Zetsu informed Obito that the right Rinnegan he hid was retrieved by a Zetsu clone and returned to Madara already.

Soon afterwards, Black Zetsu manages to steal the Yin half of Kurama inside Minato during the Hokages's attempt to transfer it into his son. Madara, now the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, arrives to regain his left eye and unable to wait anymore for Black Zetsu to retrieve it. Apologising for the delay, Black Zetsu informs its creator that it has the other half of the Nine-Tails sealed inside itself, pleasing Madara. As Black Zetsu attempted to return to Madara, taking with it Yin-Kurama, determined to talk to Madara, Obito overshadowed Black Zetsu and kept it merged to his body.

Asking Madara what he was to him, Obito decided that the legendary Uchiha's response that Obito was also Madara, was no longer a satisfactory answer for someone who wanted to control the world after hearing Naruto's words about what being Hokage meant. Responding to Madara's call to his side, Obito opts to impale his ancestor in the chest while forming a shakujō in his other hand and declaring that he was Uchiha Obito — the man who once wanted to become Hokage.

As his former team-mate and teacher relished in the return of the Obito they once knew, Madara attempted to take back his left eye from Obito, who uses Kamui to evade his attempt. Madara leapt away, but Obito's hand remained in his chest, trying to steal Tailed Beasts from Madara in an effort to weaken him. Madara mocked Obito, barely able to rip off a small portion of Shukaku and Gyūki. As Kakashi transported Naruto to the other dimension at Obito's request, Madara stopped Obito from following him. Obito figured that Madara would be able to stop him each time he attempted to transport himself due to his advantage in speed. Kakashi joined him and asked if Naruto could be saved if Obito is transported, he confirmed. Obito then asked Kakashi to back him up, who noted that it had been a long time since they had been a team, and asked Obito not to mess it up.

Reminding Madara that two eyes are stronger when they're together, confusing the elderly Uchiha who assumed Obito was talking about the Rinnegan, Obito corrected Madara and stated that he was referring to his original eyes. By combining the power of their individual Kamui, Obito was able to successfully teleported quickly to the other dimension, alarming Sakura. Skeptical on whether or not she could trust him, Obito assured her he would save Naruto. Obito spoke regretfully about his inability to walk straight, but that his path had led him to this point. He sealed Yin-Kurama in Naruto, as well as a portion of Shukaku and Gyūki he had taken from Madara, knowing that Naruto already had a portion of the other tailed beasts' charka inside him.

After Naruto finally regained consciousness, Obito teleported Naruto back to the normal dimension. Obito asked Sakura for a request as an enemy. As Obito struggled to maintain control of Black Zetsu, he begged Sakura to destroy the left Rinnegan. As Sakura prepared to, Madara, having stolen Kakashi's Sharingan and used its power to teleport, arrived in time to stop Sakura's effort.

Seeing Madara's attack coming, Obito teleported Sakura back normal dimension to save her, but was too weak to go along with her, leaving him at Madara's mercy. As Madara congratulated Obito for finding and removing the cursed seal he placed on him, the older Uchiha revealed that Obito's entire fall into darkness was in fact his doing; having the Three-Tails being sealed into Rin and ensuring her demise as Obito's pure heart would make him an ideal pawn once corrupted. As Obito began to absorb the horrific truth, Madara decided to reclaim his left eye from Obito.

After Madara took back his Rinnegan. Black Zetsu took over Obito's body, and used it to teleport Madara including himself to the normal dimension. After Naruto shouted out to Obito, Zetsu lamented that Obito was no more now that he took his body. Mockingly dismissing Obito as a selfish brat who wanted to make up for his mistakes, Zetsu remained attached to Obito's body until he betrayed Madara. Afterwards, Zetsu allowed himself to be absorbed by Otsutsuki Kaguya in order to revive her.

Afterwards, Zetsu allowed himself to be absorbed by Otsutsuki Kaguya in order to revive her. Obito then fell to the ground as Kakashi looked on. As Kaguya teleports herself and the only living beings to escape the Infinite Tsukuyumi into a volcano above a pit of lava, Obito plummets down towards it along with the original Team Kakashi. Before he could fall in the lava, however, Kakashi had stopped Obito's fall by nailing his hand to the wall of the cave with a kunai, apologizing to his childhood friend for doing so. Later on, he is lifted off the wall and carried to safety along with Sakura and Kakashi by Naruto's shadow clone. Naruto's shadow clone then used its power to revive Obito, slightly showing signs of life to the latter.

After Obito awakens, his new allies explain the situation. Obito quickly sees through the mechanics of Kaguya's space-time manipulation and theorizes that he can synchronize the power of Kamui in both his eyes to retrieve the captured Sasuke. Noting however that he is still too weak to make the journey both ways, Sakura and the Naruto-clone offer to use their chakra, to which Obito agrees, determined to bring back Sasuke even at the cost of his life.

As Naruto's efforts with the aid of the tailed beasts inside him managed to overwhelm Kaguya, the princess shifted away through her dimensional portal, letting Obito teleport with Naruto-clone and Sakura. As they arrived and the shadow clone dispersed, Obito used Kamui to hide himself and Sakura inside his own dimension long enough for Kaguya to disappear back to the normal dimension.

Obito then begins opening gateways to numerous dimensions, sensing for Sasuke's presence as Sakura begins pouring all of her chakra into his body to maintain the gateways. The task strains both of them a great deal but trial and error eventually leads them to the dimension that Sasuke was trapped in. Taking the opportunity, Sasuke makes it through the gateway Obito held up and meets up with the two, before the two transport to the dimension where Naruto, Kakashi and Kaguya are.

After returning to the battlefield, Obito, Sasuke and Sakura looked on with shock as Naruto was seemingly caught and impaled by Kaguya. After realising it was a clone, a relieved Obito told Naruto not to scare them. Afterwards, Zetsu and Kaguya resolved that it was time to end the battle quickly, as Kaguya increased the gravity of the battlefield, sending everyone, including herself to the ground. After sending a pinpointed attack towards Naruto and Sasuke after the two ninja dodged the first, Obito and Kakashi simultaneously charged forth, empowered by a familiar memory of the two of them together, along with Rin. As Kakashi and Obito stood ready to take the attacks intended for Naruto and Sasuke, Obito used Kamui to teleport the attack heading towards Kakashi, before being fatally stabbed in the stomach by Kaguya's attack as everyone looked on in shock. Horrified by Obito's sacrifice, likening it to the time he saved him from the boulder, Obito told Kakashi not to follow him to the afterlife.

As Obito's body started to crumble, a sorrowful Kakashi asked Obito why he gave his life for him when his powers are still needed, dismissing himself as useless. Telling Kakashi to focus on the enemy, Obito thought about how the new generation still needed Kakashi to support them, and that it was too soon for him to die. Quickly rushing to Obito's side, Naruto attempted to heal Obito once more with his power, before being scolded by Black Zetsu and told by Obito that his efforts were in vein. Black Zetsu continued to deride Obito for being a traitor to everyone, much to the chagrin of Naruto. Accepting his fate and his role, Obito explained to Naruto that as a result of fighting alongside him, he was happy and that he could once again remember the feeling of wanting to be Hokage. Obito then told Naruto that he knew he would definitely become the Hokage, before dying with a smile on his face as his body crumbled away.

Obito then found himself in the afterlife with Rin, appearing as he did in his youth. Rin told Obito that she had been waiting for him. Apologizing for taking so long and getting lost along the way, Obito told her that a lot of things had happened since then, as she reached out her hand. Filled with guilt, Obito tried to tell her that he failed his promise of becoming Hokage. However, Rin assured Obito that it was okay because he tried his very hardest. Taking Obito's hand, Rin told the young Uchiha that up to this day, she was always watching over him, and asked him to come with her to the other side.

Though he is eager to start spending time with her, he is worried that Kakashi might do something stupid like dying and ruin things between them again. Therefore, he uses Kamui and has his spirit return to the living plane and inhabits Kakashi, imbuing him temporarily with the power of his Mangekyo Sharingan. Kakashi uses them and the resulting Susanooto provide backup for Naruto and Sasuke, giving them the opening they need to defeat Kaguya. With all scores settled, Obito apologizes to Kakashi one final time for everything, and the two part fully reconciled with Obito now free to join Rin in the afterlife.

Naruto Shippuuden movie 6

Naruto meets Sakura, who had an argument with her family and also stormed out, grabbing Naruto's hand and telling him to go on a date with her. While Sakura complains about her family, she tells Naruto that her mother gets her way, and her father is always at her mother's side. She tells Naruto that her mother is a good for nothing ninja, and she wishes that it better to be alone than to have her parents around.

Naruto tells her that she has gone to far, and asks if she is on her parents sides. Naruto tells her no, and Sakura wonders why she is telling him this. She then mentions that if Sasuke was here, than he would understand. Obito appears in front of them and after a small scuffle, he then activates the limited Tsukuyomi. Naruto and Sakura are absorbed in a flash of light, and later find themselves still in the same park they were before.

They run into their friends including Sasuke, but with different personalities and no one knows who Obito is. They realize they are in another world where Sakura's father was the Fourth Hokage, who saved the village instead of Minato, and in this world Naruto is named Menma instead. As Naruto and Sakura return home Sakura is happy for the new freedom she has, while Naruto hurries home to his apartment hoping to see his parents, only to find he does not live there.

Obito reveals that the dead Akatsuki members in the beginning were only Zetsu clones. In the Genjutsu World, a man in a mask meets Tobi and they agree to work together. Elsewhere, as Sakura is looking through her dresser, she sees the same coat that Naruto's father had worn. She then meets Sasuke who gives her a flower and flirts with her. Naruto and Sakura meet in the morning to try to gather more information of their current world, although Sakura enjoys this world as she has more freedom and is well loved by the village thanks to her father's actions. Naruto, on the other hand, wants to return home as fast as possible.

Naruto and Sakura meet Tsunade and Shizune who tells them that a masked man attacked Kumogakure, and killed their jinchūriki which Naruto and Sakura believe to have been Tobi. They then meet Naruto's parents who are alive. Minato says that Jiraiya died finding the Red Moon Scroll that was said to help save the world. Tsunade lets Naruto and Sakura join Minato and Kushina on their mission when Kakashi and Guy return. Sakura is shocked at finding out who Naruto's parents are, while Naruto is angry that Obito would dare to make copies of his dead parents and he swears to break the Genjutsu. While Sakura is still enjoying her life, she wonders how Naruto is doing. While Naruto attempts to ignore his parents, he sees an album showing him, how his life would have been if his parents had been alive.

In the morning, Sakura notes that this world's Kakashi and Guy switched personalities, while Naruto isolates himself from his parents at every turn. They soon locate where Jiraiya hid the scroll, but as the group stops to rest Naruto charges ahead until he is confronted by the summoning of Gamabunta, Gamahiro and Gamaken. They refuse to listen to Naruto and the group who explains their reason for being there and attacks them with an army of frogs. Naruto attempts to use Sage Mode, but is unable to gather enough energy before Gamabunta attacks him. Kushina protects him, but hurts herself from a shot of acid that burns Kushina's leg. Minato saves both of them and quickly is able to get the scroll, unsummoning the toads.

As Sakura heals Kushina, Naruto still attempts to brush off his parents, causing Minato to say no matter what Naruto does, they will always try to save him. Kushina then awakens and hugs Naruto, causing him to be unable to try to ignore his parents any longer and finally accepts them. They return to Konoha, where Tsunade locks the scroll in the villages Safe up till the night when a red moon will appear when they can use the scroll to fulfill the said prophecy. As Naruto and Sakura walk home, Naruto quickly walks home leaving Sakura alone and happily walks into his house. She instead finds her home too lonely and wonders if Naruto's always this alone. As she walks down town she sees happy families, only making her more sad. She then realizes that this world's Sasuke is just a flirt and decides that Naruto was right on his decision to quickly break the genjutsu they're now trapped in and wishes to return to their own world. As she walks to Naruto's home to try to find a way to break the genjutsu, she see how happy Naruto is and wonders if they should leave. Sakura later meets Naruto, and asks him if he wants to stay. Although he denies it, he later thinks to himself that he truly does not want to leave.

At that moment an explosion occurs at the Hokage's office, where the masked man from earlier asks for the scroll they brought back. He overpowers Minato, Kushina, and Tsunade, till Naruto and Sakura arrive. They realize that this was the man Tsunade was talking about, and that he knows Obito. He overpowers Naruto and Sakura, and kidnaps Sakura in exchange for the scroll. He then uses Great Spiralling Ring, destroying a large part of Konoha and leaves. Naruto tries to save Sakura, but Minato prevents him, showing that in the end this world's Minato is different from his father. He takes one of Minato's kunai and the scroll leaving with Sakura's father's Hokage coat. Sakura is tied up and meets Obito who is a ghost saying they are in an old training ground that Minato and Jiraiya used. Naruto arrives but is attacked by the other masked man asking for the scroll. Naruto is unable to fight properly as his stomach acts up, the Masked Man then takes the time to summon the Nine Masked Beasts, and about to kill Naruto when the Akatsuki arrives and saves him.

This Akatsuki was hired by Tsunade to help Naruto, and they deal with the masked beasts when Naruto attacks the masked man. Itachi saves Sakura and Tobi decides to escape instead. The Akatsuki defeats the masked beasts that turn into nine fox kits, while Naruto chased the masked man into the training grounds. They then fight, Naruto uses Sage Mode and uses the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken to counter the Masked Man's Great Spiralling Ring. It ends in a draw, but the attack destroy the masked man's mask, showing that he is Menma, this world's Naruto. Menma then called back the defeated masked beasts, and summoned Kurama's counterpart, the Black Nine-Tails. Naruto was unable to attack, while the Akatsuki retreat, taking Sakura with them. Not wanting to be manipulated by the Sharingan again, Kurama makes a truce with Naruto to work together, allowing him to summon Kurama out of his body. In the battle Naruto is barely able to win, but Obito reveals that this was his plan, to have Naruto and Menma fight, as doing so would cause the two foxes to fight and weaken Kurama. As he possessed Menma, Kurama warned Naruto if he looked into Menma's Sharingan, it would be all over for Tobi planned to extract Kurama out of Naruto the same way he extracted it from Kushina 16 years ago. Naruto tries to use the scroll when he notices the moon had turned red, but Menma cuts the scroll, causing Naruto to look in Menma's eyes. Naruto's memories were erased, but Sakura rescues him.

Naruto, in an anesmia state looking at half of the scroll, is able to remember Jiraiya and his memories. He then defeats Obito the same way his father did breaking the Limited Tsukiyomi. Obito using his ghost body tries again, till Minato and Kushina arrive. Obito decides to give up and exits the genjutsu world just as Naruto and Sakura are enveloped in a bright light preparing to return to their world as well.

Legacy

Following Obito's apparent death, Kakashi was left greatly changed by the experience. The Sharingan that Obito gave to Kakashi helped him gain fame throughout the ninja world and earned him the nickname of "Copy Ninja Kakashi" (コピー忍者のカカシ) for the hundreds of jutsu he copied with the Sharingan. Obito's philosophy about the importance of team-mates also guided Kakashi during all his future missions and, once Kakashi was old enough to begin training his own students, became the single most important lesson he wanted them to learn and demonstrate. On a more personal level, Obito's death remained ever in his thoughts and he would often spend his time visiting the Memorial Stone where Obito's name is engraved to reflect on events.

The Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack that Obito was responsible for would end up directing the course of Naruto and Sasuke's lives. Naruto's parents died that night, leaving him an orphan. Like Obito before him, Naruto came to dream of gaining Konoha's acknowledgment by becoming the Hokage and pursued that goal against all odds. The suspicion that an Uchiha was behind the attack would ultimately lead to the clan's downfall. Sasuke, the only Uchiha to be spared from death, dedicated his life to taking vengeance against those behind the death of his family at any cost. Despite the dark path he took in his life, Obito's actions eventually led the Five Great Shinobi Countries aligning with one another to form the Allied Shinobi Forces, and later the Shinobi Union, ultimately fulfilling his promise to Rin of ending all wars and to bring peace to the world.

Relationships

His grandmother

During his childhood, while living with his grandma. Obito would always ask her if he acted like his mother or his father.

Hatake Kakashi

Hatake Kakashi is Obito's number one rival and best friend. Their relationship is similar to the one shared between Naruto and Sasuke; like Naruto, Obito dreamed of becoming Hokage to be recognized and was a late-bloomer in the Ninja Academy and learning techniques, whereas like Sasuke, Kakashi was a prodigy and was recognized for his brilliance while preferring to be alone. They had a friendly rivalry throughout their years as students at the Ninja Academy, competing in everything from test scores to combat fighting, with Obito being unsuccessful in defeating Kakashi. Obito took their rivalry more personal when Rin, with who he was in love with, developed a crush on Kakashi. However, Kakashi pain little attention to Obito's antics but often mocked him as a loser and weak.

After they were designed as team-mates, Kakashi berated Obito for being late to every single meeting with lame excuses, and declined working together with Obito and Rin as he believed completing missions came before the well-being of his comrades. Obito who became angered while hearing Kakashi say it, disputed this. Things tended to get intense to the point where Obito refused to give Kakashi a present to celebrate his Jonin promotion. Despite their differences, Obito and Kakashi actually became friends and developed mutual respect. Their friendship was proven to be a powerful trait in their lives towards the end of the Third Shinobi War; Obito defended Kakashi, whose left eye had been severed, and had awokened his Sharingan while vowing to protect his comrades. When Rin was kidnapped, Obito was adamant that they go save her but Kakashi repeated his philosophy that those who abandon their missions are scum. This prompted Obito to say out loud his own philosophy that those who abandon their friends are worse than scum. Having a change of heart, Kakashi agrees to help Obito save Rin but was left tearfully devastated as Obito was crushed by a boulder and unable to move. To make up for not getting him a promotion gift, Obito gave Kakashi his left Sharingan before seemingly dying.

Obito's death had a deep impact on Kakashi's mind in the years to follow, to the point where he was haunted by nightmares and blamed himself for not saving his friends, causing him to descend into darkness at one point in his Anbu career. When he became the teacher of Team Kakashi, Kakashi adopted Obito's philosophy and taught the importance of teamwork to his students. Kakashi often visited the Memorial Stone where Obito's name is engraved in. However, Obito actually survived and went into hiding, only coming out when he witnessed Kakashi accidentally kill Rin. Obito was overcome with grief and hatred towards kakashi for killing the person he loved the most, but stopped short of killing him after deeming him unworthy of killing. Kakashi had no reason to believe Obito was alive or that the masked man responsible for most of the world's chaos was him. That is until the second day of the war, when Naruto managed to unmask Obito and Kakashi was left horrified that his good friend is not only alive but one of the world's most dangerous criminals ever. When asked why he never came forward about surviving, Obito coldly replied it was because Kakashi let Rin die.

Although Kakashi was rendered speechless by the revelation and reluctant to fight Obito, Kakashi felt that he had no choice but to kill him in order to protect Naruto and the world. Obito and Kakashi fight each other for the first time since their days as genin, and Obito proves himself to be stronger than Kakashi, even not reacting to Kakashi impaling him with Chidori and shouting that he feels no pain. After Obito was defeated by the combined efforts of Naruto, Sasuke, and most of the Konoha 11, Kakashi tried to kill Obito, saying it was his duty as Obito's friend, but was stopped by a reanimated Minato.

Obito ultimately turns against Madara and joins forces with Kakashi to stop him from finishing off an already dying Naruto. Despite all the events that have happened, Kakashi gives out a battle stragedy, which Obito jokingly says its like Kakashi to order him around, and remarks its been a while since they fought along-side each other. Obito quickly weakened throughout the battle with Madara but was able to help Kakashi protect his students from Kaguya. When Kaguya attempted to kill Naruto and Sasuke, Obito and Kakashi jumped in front of them, ready to die and reunite with Rin. However, Obito prevented Kakashi from dying because Kakashi dying with him would have made it impossible for him to be with Rin alone. Although Kakashi was shocked that Obito gave his life for his, Obito told him not to worry about it and he should become the Sixth Hokage. After his death, Obito decides to help Kakashi one last time, his spirit enters Kakashi's conscience and he gives Kakashi his Mangekyo Sharingan to help Team Kakashi seal Kaguya away. Before parting ways for good, Obito expresses remorse for the chaos he caused but is assured by Kakashi that they were always friends.

Nohara Rin

Nohara Rin is Obito's childhood friend and love interest. Even before entering in the Ninja Academy, Obito had romantic feelings for Rin and tried to use any means, particularly training relentlessly to enhance his abilities, to impress her. Rin was the only person who truly believed in Obito about becoming Hokage and changing the world for the better. When Obito failed in something, Rin was quick to cheer him up and encourage him to try again until he succeeded. Although Obito's actions made it clear to their peers and even Minato that he was in love with her, Rin was oblivious and though of him as a dear friend. Upon meeting Kakashi, Rin developed a crush on him, which distracted her even more from recognizing Obito's feelings for her, but she still cared deeply for Obito. When Obito and Kakashi got into arguments, Rin always stopped them and calmed them down from escalating their disagreements.

Obito was protective of Rin, to the point where he was willing to risk his life for her. During the Third Shinobi War, Rin was abducted and Obito refused to go any further in the battle without saving Rin, even berating Kakashi for willing to abandon her for the sake of their mission. Obito and Kakashi managed to rescue Rin but their escape was halted when Obito was crushed by a boulder and unable to move. Rin broke down in tears as it seemed Obito was dying and held his hand as Kakashi tried to think of a way to save them all. Obito convinces them to escape without him, but he secretly expressed remorse for never confessing his love to Rin. Kakashi tells Obito's feelings to Rin, telling her that Obito loved her and she was his number one. Although shocked and sad by this, she asks Kakashi if he knows her romantic feelings for him, but Kakashi declines them because he blames himself for letting Obito die.

Hearing his team-mates being trapped by Kiri shinobi forces Obito out of hiding but he ends up witnessing Kakashi stab Rin in the chest with Chidori, though unintentionally. Seeing Rin's dead body causes Obito to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan and slaughter all the Kiri shinobi, and declaring he is hell now that Rin is dead. It would be Rin's death that convinced Obito to join forces with Madara in pursuing the Infinite Tsukuyomi, where he was led to believe will allow him to be with Rin in a dream world. Although he frequently says he did the things he did in order to be with Rin, Kakashi and Minato say Rin would have never wanted Obito to do the things he did and make a mess out of the world. After being redeemed, Obito believed that Rin would never forgive him, but after his death, his spirit was reunited with her and he confessed his sins to her, to which she replied that she knew but he did the best he could to redeem himself, and she had been waiting for him. Ironically, while Obito had caused so much chaos for the sake of being with Rin in a dream, he was able to stay with her forever in spirit following his death.

Namikaze Minato

Namikaze Minato was Obito's squad teacher before he became the Fourth Hokage. Obito always respected and admired Minato, whereas Minato cared a lot for Obito, and expressed sadness when it seemed that Obito died during the third war. After Rin's death, Obito blamed Minato for not protecting his students from suffering tragic ends and his admiration turned into hate. This is shown when he took the newborn Naruto hostage to force Minato away from Kushina, and then fought his former teacher. During the fourth war, Minato was shocked when he discovered that the masked man responsible for his and Kushina's deaths, as well Kurama's attack on Konoha and starting the war, was actually Obito. When asked why he was doing the things he was doing, Obito told Minato that it was to late for lectures because it was Minato's fault for not saving his own students and family when they needed him the most, and condemned him as a failed Hokage. Minato knows that Obito is speaking the truth but rather than feeling anger at him, Minato understood the reason behind Obito's actions and stopped Kakashi from killing him after being defeated by Naruto and Sasuke. Minato would feel more grateful for Obito's change of heart when he helped save Naruto from dying.

Uzumaki Kushina

Uzumaki Kushina is Minato's wife. Regularly during the team training sessions, Kushina would often join then and help out, most memorable in preparing meals for them. Despite putting up an indifferent attitude to Kushina's kind gestures, he and the kunoichi formed a strong liking towards each other, which Kushina constantly pushing him to improve. Years later when she gave birth to her son, Naruto. Obito kidnapped her to have Kurama be ripped out of her, so he can use the beast to destroy Knoha. After he took Kurama out of Kushina, he comments that she was lucky to have survive from having a tail beast ripped out of her. He then tried to use Kurama to kill Kushina, but he was shock that Minato arrived in time to save her and had took her to a safe location. For Kushina's part, even though she gave her life to save her son and home village in order to protect Naruto from Kurama. She was oblivious that it was Obito who was behind all of the chaos that happen that night.

Uzumaki Naruto

Obito first meets Uzumaki Naruto just right after the latter is born. In an attempt to kidnap Kushina and remove Kurama from inside her and put Minato in a disadvantage. Obito took the infant Naruto hostage and tried to kill him before Minato saved his son and Obito took Kushina. Because of his actions stemming from the Nine-Tails attacking Konoha, Obito leaves Naruto as an orphan and being forced to grow up ostracized by the villagers as the tailed beast's jinchuriki.

Over the next sixteen years after the attack, Obito never had more contact with Naruto but he always waited for the time for him to capture Naruto in order to take possession of the Nine-Tails. Initially, Obito despised Naruto and he grew more irritated that his original plan to capture the tailed beasts and awaken the Infinite Tsukuyomi was thwarted by Naruto's interventions, especially after the latter convinces Nagato to change his mind about working with the Akatsuki and used the Rinne Rebirth to revive the people he killed rather than continue being a backup for Obito in case something happened to him before he achieved his goal.

Obito didn't reveal his true intentions or personality to Naruto when they met for the first time since Naruto's birth. Going by the name Tobi and pretending to be a passive and comedic Akatsuki member, Obito avoided contact with Naruto, preferring to wait a bit longer for him to get Sasuke to turn further against Naruto and the village so that Naruto will have no choice but to join the war against the Akatsuki.

The first time Obito finally reveals his true self to Naruto, he calmly and bluntly explains the tale of the Sage of the Six Paths, the truth about Itachi and the Uchiha Clan, and Sasuke's willing descent into darkness. When Naruto refuses to believe this and accuses Obito of manipulating Sasuke and Nagato to bring evil through the world, Obito doesn't deny it and says Naruto is destined to fight Sasuke to the death. Knowing that capturing Naruto will not be an easy task, and after the Kage refuse to hand him over, Obito decides to wait for the opportunity during the upcoming war.

Upon learning Obito had been calling himself Uchiha Madara, is not really Madara. Naruto vowed to unmask Obito, which he did when they fought during the war. Obito said he no longer cared what his name was and proceeded to explain to Naruto how hopeless the world is and his actions will bring the type of peace he deems appropriate through the Infinite Tsukuyomi. However, as they continued to fight, Naruto realized that Obito was actually fighting to forget his past self; the person who wanted to be Hokage, which is a dream shared with Naruto. Despite Obito killing thousands of his comrades and being responsible for the deaths of his parents along with ruining his and Sasuke's childhoods, Naruto offered Obito a chance of redemption and asked him to remember his past self. Obito initially refused and said he felt no regrets for his actions. It wasn't until Naruto and Sasuke removed the tailed beasts from inside him that he realized he had been wrong all along and accepted defeat.

After Madara removes Kurama from inside Naruto and Naruto was close to dying, Obito sought to atone for his crimes by taking back the tailed beasts from Madara and giving Yin-Kurama back to Naruto to save his life. He would later join Naruto and the rest of Team Kakashi to stop Kaguya, and he gave up his life to save Naruto from being killed by Kaguya. In his dying words, Obito tells Naruto he better become Hokage, as it is a mutual dream for them, to which Naruto vows to do. Because of his sacrifice, Naruto forgives Obito and thinks of him as a true hero. Naruto would also fulfill his promise to Obito by becoming the Seventh Hokage. Naruto even picked up Obito's habit of helping a elderly women out in the village, but by using a shadow clone to carry her and using another two shadow clones to carry her groceries.

Hyuga Hinata

Uchiha Sasuke

Obito always had plans to manipulate Uchiha Sasuke into joining forces with him as his goal of collecting the tailed beasts was met with interferences from Naruto. However, Obito was never able to approach Sasuke due to being secretly protected by his brother, Itachi, who suspected Obito was plotting something against Sasuke. After Itachi died while fighting his brother, Obito was finally able to speak to Sasuke and revealed the truth about the Uchiha clan massacre and how Itachi spared Sasuke out of love. Taking advantage of Sasuke's turmoil, Obito helped Sasuke come up with the idea of avenging their clan by destroying the village and persuaded Sasuke and his Taka comrades into working for the Akatsuki by collecting Killer B, jinchuriki of the Eight-Tails.

Obito was impressed by the depth of Sasuke's hatred for the village and the serious criminal acts he commited against others, including his own comrades. However, Obito always suspected that Sasuke would eventually follow through with Itachi's wish for him to protect Konoha, despite Sasuke's initial refusal to do so. In truth, Obito actually considers Sasuke a necessity for his plan win the war and to awaken the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and was willing to hand him over to Kabuto if they did win the war. He only saved Sasuke a few times in moments where he undermines the strength of Sasuke's opponents, such as when he sent Sasuke to fight the four Kage in order to force them into cooperating with him but instead Sasuke was nearly killed and Obito had to admit he was pushing his luck.

In turn, Sasuke actually distrusts and despises Obito, and also saw Obito as a necessity to achieve revenge against Konoha. Sasuke was aware of Obito's plot to ignite a war but doubted he would go through with it, and when he did find out he did, Sasuke was shocked that Obito, along with Kabuto, were challenging all the Five Great Nations to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi on the world. Sasuke felt anger upon realizing Obito had been using him all along but he did not want the world to be controlled by Obito, which prompted him to join forces with the Allied Shinobi Forces. Obito was not surprised by this betrayal and the two fought each other to the point they were ready and willing to kill the other. Sasuke still hated Obito after the latter was redeemed by Naruto and unwilling to cooperate with him, although he felt grateful when Obito and Sakura used up most of their chakra to save him from being trapped in one of Kaguya's dimensions. When Obito sacrificed himself to save Naruto and Kakashi from Kaguya, Sasuke was surprised by this sudden selfless act but then he concluded there was nothing he or Naruto could do and told Naruto that they needed to focus on Kaguya because Obito was beyond help.

Haruno Sakura

Obito first meets Haruno Sakura during Sasuke's battle with Itachi, as Sakura and her comrades were trailing after Sasuke. Obito, aware they intended to bring Sasuke back to the village, interfered to stop them. Sakura's first impression of him was that he was an idiot but really skilled, as he was still using his Tobi persona. Sakura believed Obito to be Madara after he manipulated Sasuke into joining forces with him, and already aware of Madara's past as a legendary and powerful shinobi, was scared to fight him initially. In turn, Obito didn't think much of Sakura, simply seeing her as a girl who is naïve and weak.

On the night of the second day of the war, Obito, after being redeemed by Naruto, helped Sakura save Naruto's life after Kurama was removed from inside him. He later begged her to destroy his Rinnegan to prevent Madara from getting it. Although Sakura said she hated him for killing many of her comrades, she was thankful to him for saving Naruto and agreed to destroy his Rinnegan. However, as Madara caught on to them, Obito saved her from certain death by using Kamui to teleport her away. They again work together while fighting Kaguya and Sasuke was pulled into another dimension. Sakura offered almost all her chakra to help Obito open dimension portals, and even as she was injured and on the verge of collapsing, he offered her to take it easy, but she politely declined. Sakura exhibited shock followed by sadness when Obito sacrificed his life to save Naruto and Kakashi from getting killed by Kaguya.

Hyuga Neji

Obito and Hyuga Neji meet for the first time on the second day of the fourth war. Obito commanded the Ten-Tails to attack Naruto and Hinata, and Neji used his body as a shield to save them, resulting in his death. Obito used this tragic loss to persuade a devastated Naruto into surrendering, by mocking him for failing to save his comrade and telling him that love will eventually turn into hatred once one loses something important. However, Naruto and the rest of his allies use Neji's death as motivation to continue, as giving up will make Neji's sacrifice meaningless.

Maito Gai

Maito Gai is a former classmate of Obito's. They two were never friends and never associated with each other. However, Guy was shocked when he discovered that Obito was alive during the war and was their enemy the entire time. Guy also ordered a devastated Kakashi to not let his emotions overcome him because Obito intended to destroy the world.

Uchiha Itachi

Obito met Uchiha Itachi for the first time the day before the Uchiha clan massacre. Obito grew interested in winning Itachi's loyalty because he felt Itachi was qualified to help with collecting the tailed beasts. So, Obito secretly kept tabs on Itachi because he realized that Itachi was preferring to support the village rather than go along with the clan's plot to revolt the village. Taking advantage of this, Obito identified himself as Madara and offered to help Itachi slaughter the entire clan as part of getting revenge against it for betraying him years earlier. Although Itachi didn't trust him and doubted he was actually Madara, he agreed to Obito's assistance. While Itachi killed everyone at the Uchiha Compound, Obito killed everyone at the Konoha Miliatary Police Force headquarters. Afterwards, Obito offered Itachi to join the Akatsuki, which he accepted and was the only one aware that Obito was also using the alias Tobi.

While initially considering Itachi as a necessity, Obito came to regret allying with Itachi when the latter withdrew from interacting with him and keeping him at bay from Sasuke. Itachi distrusted Obito because he never knew the latter's true identity and suspected that he was plotting something against Sasuke. Due to Itachi's interferences on meeting with Sasuke, Obito came to despise Itachi and exclaimed relief when he learned Itachi died while fighting Sasuke. He proceeded to tell Sasuke the truth about the clan's demise, but minimizing his own involvement, and the truth of Itachi's actions. When a reanimated Itachi learned Obito turned Sasuke against the village, Itachi was enraged at Obito.

Izumo Tenma

Obito killed Tenma while the latter was on a mission with Itachi and their team to protect the daimyo.

Taiseki

Yahiko

Obito first approached Yahiko into joining with him on bringing a revolution to the world. However, Yahiko rejected him because Obito's ideals differed from his and he felt uncomfortable with Obito. However, it would be Yahiko's death that gave Obito the tool needed to persuade Nagato and Konan to ally themselves with him.

Konan

Obito never had significant contact with Konan until he learned she and Nagato had betrayed the Akatsuki by Nagato reviving the residents who died at Konoha witht he cost of his during their invasion. Obito went to Ame to confront Konan why she betrayed the group yet still wears the Akatsuki cloak. Konan said Yahiko was the true founder of the Akatsuki and its cause was to bring peace rather than war, but Obito retorted that he was the real leader of the Akatsuki. This leads to them battling, with Konan successful in breaking part of Obito's mask but he ultimately defeats her and kills her before taking back Nagato's Rinnegan, which she promised Nagato to hide away from him.

Nagato

Obito used Yahiko's death as a means to convince Nagato into joining forces with him. Obito was aware that Nagato's Rinnegan (though Nagato was unaware) belonged to Madara but allowed him to keep it because he preferred to use Nagato as a back-up in case something happened to him. He taught Nagato the Rinne Rebirth in case Obito died in combat and he would be revived and he considered Nagato to be his most loyal follower. So Obito was shocked when he learned that Nagato had betrayed him by using the Rinne Rebirth to revive the people he killed at Konoha after getting to speak to Naruto and being inspired by his cause of achieving peace by breaking the cycle of hate. Obito vowed to never forgive Nagato for his betrayal and lashed out at Naruto for changing his mind before reclaiming Nagato's Rinnegan for the war.

Deidera

While using his Tobi persona, Obito was partnered with Deidera. Obito tended to annoy Deidera with his happy-go-luck attitude and playful antics, but he considered Deidera to be a good partner. Despite being annoyed with him and at times willing to abandon him, Deidera considers Obito as a good partner as well. Obito even expressed some sadness when Sasuke killed Deidera. However, it is highly possible that Obito never cared for Deidera and all positive remarks about Deidera were part of his façade.

Hoshigaki Kisame

Obito and Kisame first met prior to Kisame's defection from Kirigakure as Obito was going by the name Madara. Kisame learned Obito was manipulating the Mizukage, Yagura, and was able to see Obito's true face, making him the first and only person able to do so with Obito's permission. Obito offered Kisame to join the Akatsuki to change the world that benefits them, and Kisame readily agreed. However, the two never had significant contact until after Itachi's death. Kisame had no idea that Tobi was Marada and in turn Obito, and was surprised when Obito willingly showed his face to him, which surprised Kisame that Obito was the same person who acted at the Mizukage. Kisame became very loyal to Obito, os much so that, after being captured by Naruto and his protectors during the war, Kisame committed suicide by summoning sharks to eat him rather than let them gather information on Obito's plans.

Uchiha Madara

Right after Obito was crushed by a boulder and anticipating his death, he was saved by Madara. Obito thanked him but Madara replied Obito was in debt to him and offered him to be his apprentice. Obito refused and was eager to get back to Konoha. When Madara reavled his identity, Obito was shocked because everyone believed Madara died from fighting First Hokage Hashirama. Due to still being injured, Obito was forced to recover in Madara's hideout. However, Madara, knowing he would never be able to achieve the Infinite Tsukuyomi at his old age, wanted to ensure he had Obito's loyalty so he manipulated Kiri shinobi to kidnap Rin, make her the Three-Tails jinchuriki, and led a series of events that ended with Kakashi accidentally killing her. This pushes Obito over the edge and he agrees to work with Madara. Prior to Madara's death, he taught Obito the facts of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the Rinnegan, the Rinne Rebirth, and the tailed beasts. In his last moments, he entrusted his name to Obito because the mere mention of Madara's name would prompt the world to react.

Madara and Obito initially planned that Obito would collect the tailed beasts, use the Rinne Rebirth to revive Madara, summon the Ten-Tails with Madara becoming its jinchuriki, and awakening the Infinite Tsukuyomi. However, Obito never trusted Madara and never intended to ressurent him, and planned to use everything Madara taught him for his own purposes. Obito, without shame and hesitation, went by Madara's name to get the Five Great Nations to respond to his criminal acts and force them into a war when they refused to cooperate with his demands. When Kabuto uncovered and showed Madara's body to Obito, he was enraged at Kabuto's tactics to gain a partnership with him, and agreed to work with him as long as he never revived Madara. Obito was still angered when he learned Kabuto revived Madara anyway and felt he had to work with his former master as they went against the Allied Shinobi Forces. Even when Obito admitted how he really felt about him, Madara didn't care because all that mattered was that they win the war and achieve their goal.

Similar to Obito, Madara doubted Obito would remain loyal to him, but still hoped Obito would follow their original plan and was left irritated to learn he did not. In fact, Madara merely considers Obito as a back-up plan for his rebirth, willing to sacrifice him if it benefited his needs. When Obito redeems and opposes him, Madara was surprised by Obito's betrayal, but chose not to dwell on it once he finally became a jinchuriki. Once he was able to catch Obito off guard, he revealed his involvement in Rin's death and Obito's spiral into darkness, which enraged that Madara had been using him all along.

Yakushi Kabuto

Obito was forced to ally with Kabuto as the war was getting started. Obito refused due to Kabuto being an Akatsuki spy who betrayed the organization, but stopped when Kabuto offered his services with dozens of dead shinobi to aid Obito's White Zetsu army. Kabuto asked that Obito give him Sasuke as compensation for his services, but when Obito refused, Kabuto revealed he found Madara's body. Unwilling to face Madara being resurrected, Obito reluctantly agreed, on the condition that Madara be left out of consideration for reanimation and Sasuke would be handed over once they win the war. Obito despises Kabuto and distrusts him, although he was shocked and then enraged at Kabuto for violating their agreement by reviving Madara. In turn, Kabuto hates Obito and sees him as a necessity for his own goals. However, after being redeemed, Kabuto says to Team Taka that they started the war because they felt they had no place in the world after no longer remembering who they truly were.
