Kuririn

Kuririn (クリリン) is a supporting main character in the Dragon Ball manga, and in the anime Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z & Dragon Ball GT.

He had a brief rivalry with Son Goku when they first met, and trained under Master Roshi, but they quickly became lifelong best friends. One of the most powerful and talented Human martial artists on planet Earth, Kuririn is a courageous faithful, ally and good-natured. He is a prominent Z Fighter, despite him usually being overpowered by the major enemies. In the English version, his name is spell as KRILLIN instead.

Background

Originally a young monk of the Orin Temple, while living in the temple after training there for only eight years. Kuririn had trained at the Orin Temple ever since he was only four years old. He was the weakest student to train at the temple, and he was frequently bullied too. When he was 13 years old he was getting really tired of the bullying, and he began to travel to Master Roshi's island when he was seeking training to surpass the people at the temple in order to defeat his bullies, and to also attract girls his age. Kuririn came to Master Roshi and became a student of the Turtle School in his first appearance in the DB series. His last name is also a complete mystery.

Originally a jealous and selfish person, Kuririn did not respect the rules to well when confronted with Master Roshi's tough training. After a short arch rivalry between the two boys (years later, Kuririn even admits that he hated Goku at first), he becomes Goku's life long best friend, and even his selfish and jealous personality becomes more kind hearted and a lot more generous (although he still has slight selfish and jealous traits after his reform). Kuririn is often used as comic relief or cannon fodder by the author, and has been killed the most amount of times in the Dragon Ball series. As the most prominent full-blooded human character in the Dragon Ball series, Krillin also represents a sense of normalcy to Goku and Gohan, as well as often being the most identifiable. Often when things in the Dragon World turn bizarre, it is left to Kuririn to shake his head in disbelief and crack a joke.

Despite his reputation as being a weakling compared to his Saiyan comrades, he is considered to be one of the stronger pure-blooded humans in the Dragon Ball series, by being thousands of times stronger than the average person (although this is largely due to the fact that he was afforded much more greater opportunities to increase his strength, such as training under the Guardian of the Earth and having his potential unlocked by the Grand Elder Guru, things that no other human, such as Mr. Satan, ever had). Although he is not as strong as Goku or Gohan, his determination in helping his friends is a key asset. Furthermore, Kuririn's ingenuity and talent for ki-manipulation is far superior than that of most warriors, even those stronger than himself, and he has an ability to sense hidden powers. Kuririn had his dormant ki awakened by the Namek Elder, Guru, during the events of the Namek Saga (although it is possible that not all of his power was freed, due to the fact that Gohan still had more hidden power and that they both grew to be much stronger), and this helped keep him among the same level as his more naturally powerful friends, at least for a little while.

Kuririn has trained very hard most of his life, by becoming extremely powerful and proving it in combat with many foes. Unfortunately, he is quickly outclassed by many of the other characters in the series, such as Piccolo and the Saiyans; though among all the full blooded humans he faces in combat he is one of the strongest. On one occasion, during the course of the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha says to Kuririn's daughter Marron that Kuririn is "the strongest human being in the world".

Some fans feel that the mangaka, Akira Toriyama, uses Yamcha to state a fact on this scene, as he also says that Kuririn is the "strongest Earthling male" in an interview. As it is spoken in the context of Kuririn being married to Android 18, it implies that Kuririn is the strongest Earthling at least by that point in the series (this claim gets support in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors in which the final part of Kuririn's story, in which focus on the Majin Buu Saga, is titled as "The Strongest Earthling"). Many fans immediately will connect Kuririn with his signature move, Destructo Disk, a spinning razor-sharp disk of energy that has the power to cut through just about anything. Despite its immense power, it is extremely unwieldy and hard to control.

At any rate, Kuririn is brave and resourceful, and the audience identifies him as a good-natured underdog. Along with Yamcha, Kuririn has also, arguably, adjusted to a relatively normal life better than many of his friends by seeking women in his life. He is among the more "normal" human of his friends, as he can be seen wearing normal clothes on days where he's not fighting, other than his typical martial arts dōgi, as well as engaging in other normal every-day activities such as watching TV, going to the beach, and etc. In his role as Son Goku's best friend, Kuririn was among the only humans to remain a main character for the majority of the series, even as Master Roshi, Yamcha, Tien, Chaozu, Yajirobe, Chi-Chi and the others faded into the background. Overall, Kuririn is a highly valued character in the Dragon Ball series: powerful, loyal, and brave. He is the second character only to Goku in the series with the most appearances in the manga.

In some more recent movies however, Kuririn has been since demoted to a comic relief character role. This is most prominent in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, when he was beaten up by Chi-Chi, then clonked his head twice, had hot coffee spilled on his head, had his face fried by a stray energy bolt, had a large pile of snow dumped on him, had Vegeta sent flying into him, slipped and skidded past the main villain when he was about to attack him and was humiliated in the hospital, he even remarks during the Vegeta incident that "Why do these things always happen to me?".

Consistent with the theme of redemption in the series, he spares Android 18's life when presented with the chance to activate her self-destruct sequence because he finds her to be redeemable. In a bit of ironic fortune, he later on marries the beautiful android and later has a daughter named Marron with her.

Appearance

Kuririn has light pale skin and black eyebrows. He does not have a nose, however, he seems to be able to smell until someone mentions it (like Goku during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament): he smells the diamond Bulma took from the Pirate Cave, and he smells the enticing trap meal in the Mirror spaceship In the Dragon Ball: Bouken Special, when asked why Kuririn does not have a nose, Akira Toriyama responded by saying that "Kuririn has a physical idiosyncrasy that allows him to breathe through his skin". Earlier on in the series, Kuririn had white eyes. However, later on, they seem to have disappeared completely, making the inside of his eyes the same color as his skin. Kuririn is not naturally bald; due to his original monastic training, he merely shaves his head.

During his training with Goku under Master Roshi, Kuririn comments that "All who aspire to master the martial arts shave their heads in order to unfetter their ki" and seemed surprised to find out that Master Roshi was naturally bald. After settling down with his new family, his hair grows out, although his original smooth crowned look is the most familiar to fans. The six dots on his forehead are scars from moxibustion burns, similar to the pattern that appear on the forehead of a Shaolin monk.

By the time of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' saga, Kuririn has once again shaved off his hair, and has also taken up the job of a police officer. He wears a uniform with a yellow shirt and blue trousers, a badge, and a helmet. When getting prepared to battle Frieza, Kuririn asks Android 18 to shave his head off for "old times sake".

Abilities

Kuririn's power level at the start of Dragon Ball Z is 206 according to Bulma's modified scouter. Later on, during the battle with the Saiyans, his suppressed power level is 1,083 (1,100 in the anime) and 1,770 when fighting at full strength. After having his potential unlocked by Guru and while powering up to fight against Guldo, his power level is over 10,000 according to Jeice's scouter and when Vegeta sensed Kuririn's potential unlocked power he initially mistook him for Zarbon, but then noted that his power was somewhat weaker than Zarbon's. He is strong enough to hit Imperfect Cell in the stomach with a headbutt, and he is also able to survive a fight against a Cell Jr., though the Cell Juniors were suppressing their power as they were ordered not to kill the Z Fighters.

In the Fusion Saga, while Vegito is turned into candy by Super Buu, King Kai suggests to send Kuririn and Yamcha to fight him instead of Goku and Vegeta, thus implying that they're his next best fighters much to their surprise. In the Kid Buu Saga, he is shown to handle Yamcha, who previously easily beaten Olibu, without breaking a sweat. He is also strong enough to stay on his feet with Yamcha against Kid Buu after being hit by the latter's attack, they also lasted the longest out of all the dead fighters. However this is all anime only.

In Dragon Ball Super, Kuririn tells Goku that there's a huge gap between the two even after Goku has achieved the level of Super Saiyan God. The gap between Kuririn and Goku is so huge that it makes Kuririn want to retire. Kuririn however uses his strength for his job as a police officer. By the time of Frieza's resurrection and return to Earth after training, Kuririn is unable to beat Frieza as he is because he's on a completely different level. Number 18 says that she's still be stronger than Kuririn even after all of the years prior. He does however have the power to combat Frieza's soldiers. However, there two elite soldiers Kuririn doesn't have the power to defeat, Shisami and Tagoma. Kuririn gets beaten up by Captain Ginyu, who possesses Tagoma's body.

Full Power Energy Blast Volley

Used in the Butoden series (named Renzoku Energy Dan) and the first Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi.

Best Headbutt

Best Headbutt (全力頭突き) is Kuririn's headbutt technique. He uses a headbutt to defeat Paul and impress his sister Mint, while he was at the Popo Poco Volcano village, and he later uses the technique against Cell during the Imperfect Cell Saga when he struggles to save Tommy and his sister from the monster. It is one of his super attack as an adult in Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu (named Super Head-Butt), and as a kid Dragon Ball Heroes (named Best Headbutt).

Balloon Technique (Fusenka)

Krillin sucks in some air, while causing him to inflate like a balloon and float. He uses this technique during his battle against Goku in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.

Farting (Sukashippe)

Krillin goes above an opponent and farts in their face. Used as a revenge after Bacterian did the same to him.

Rengeki

A rush attack used in Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans. Kuririn can combine it with Yamcha's and Tien's rush attacks to form the Earthling Strike. Kuririn's High Speed Rush in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai is the Berserk Fist/Valiant Fist, and he also uses the Zanku Fist and the Jackhammer.

Kamehameha

Kuririn learns the move by just watching Goku and Yamcha use it, and he uses this move for the first time in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament by fighting against Chiaotzu.

Double Tsuihikidan

A move where Kuririn fires two energy waves that target his enemy. Kuririn used this technique against Piccolo in the 23th World Martial Arts Tournament. It was named Homing Energy Wave in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast.

Scattering Bullet

Kuririn uses this move after witnessing the death of Yamcha.

Destructo Disk

Also known as Kienzan, is an attack invented by Kuririn that has very sharp edges that can cut through just about anything. Dual Destructo-Disk A team attack used by Kuririn and Android 18 in the Nintendo DS game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2.

Chain Destructo Disk Barrage

A rapid-fire version of the Destructo Disk used by Kuririn against Frieza. ===Super Destructo Disk=== – A more powerful version of the Destructo Disk used by Kuririn in Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit.

Solar Flare

An attack that can blind anyone who is facing the user unless their eyes are closed.

After Image Technique

An attack that leaves multiple false images of the user. The Afterimage Strike is one of his Blast 1 in the Budokai Tenkaichi series.

Tri-Beam

Tien Shinhan's signature attack. Kuririn can use it in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors.

Tri-Form

Used against Nappa along with Piccolo to create three versions of himself that could fight. Kuririn uses this technique only in the anime.

Risking it all for a friend=

Kuririn jumps in the way of an incoming Ki Blast to save Gohan. Used during the Garlic Jr. Saga.

Photon Bomber

An energy sphere used by Kuririn as a final attack to destroy Dr. Gero's laboratory.

Spirit Bomb

The ultimate technique that King Kai taught to Goku. Kuririn is able to use it when Goku gives it to him to try and defeat Vegeta. In the story of Supersonic Warriors, after dying of the heart virus, Goku comes back for a day to teach this technique and the Kaio-ken to Kuririn.

Spirit Ball

Used against Kid Buu when he attacks the Majin in the Other World along with Yamcha in the anime. Kuririn can perform this homing technique in Supersonic Warriors 2 as well.

Senkouken

A dashing punch used in the Butoden series.

Shockwave Kick

A turn around kick used in the Butoden series.

Gariou Kick

A dashing slide kick used in the Butoden series.

Diving Kick

A diving double foot stomp. Named in the Butoden series. He also uses it as his diving smash in the Budokai Tenkaichi series.

Reverse Kamehameha

Kuririn uses the Reverse Kamehameha in the Butōden series to perform attacks like headbutts or knee smashes. He also uses the Knee Drop in Super Dragon Ball Z.

His meteor attack in Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22.

Flicker

Kuririn jumps and rolls past the enemy. Used in Super Dragon Ball Z.

Unlock Potential

Kuririn's potential or hidden power is unlocked by the Namekian Elder Guru.

Kaio-ken

During Kuririn's "what-if" story in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, Goku, after dying from a heart virus, comes back to Earth for a day (thanks to Fortuneteller Baba) to teach Kuririn the Kaio-ken and the Spirit Bomb. These techniques are used by Kuririn in his LV3 state in the game. He is also able to use the Kaio-ken in Dragon Ball: Xenoverse.

Spirit Bomb Absorbed

In the story of Shin Budokai, Kuririn is given the energy from a Spirit Bomb by Goku, and he later uses this energy in order to power himself up enough to fight Frieza. When powering up into this state, Kuririn powers up in the same way as he would into his Unlock Potential form.

Cellin

Cellin is the product of Cell absorbing Krillin.

Prilin

In the 13th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, there is a what-if fusion of Piccolo and Krillin called Prilin.

S. Sun Flare Destructo-Disc

A combination of Solar Flare and Destructo-Disc used by Krillin as his Final Ultimate Combo in Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden.

Orin Combo

A rush technique learned by Krillin during his training at the Orin Temple which appears as one of his Super Skills in the Xenoverse series. Krillin performs a rush attack while ascending then delivers a final strike that knocks the opponent downwards.

Super Kamehameha

Can be learned by Krillin as a Special Move in Dragon Ball Fusions.

Super Scatter Shot

A stronger version of the Scatter Shot that appears as one of Krillin's special attacks in Dragon Ball Fusions.

Dragon Ball (Anime)

World Tournament arc

"Master, my name's Kuririn, and I've come all the way from a village in the east. Please allow me to be your humble student and learn to fight like you."

Kuririn first appears on screen at the beginning of the Tournament Saga. He bribes Master Roshi with dirty magazines in order to be accepted as his student. Kuririn's initial desire for learning martial arts under Master Roshi was to become more popular with girls.

At first, he detests Goku, who Kuririn finds unintelligent and childish. It is to Kuririn's increased annoyance that he discovers that Son Goku is a more powerful fighter than him in every way. The only time Kuririn is ever able to get the better of Goku is through trickery and deceit. Even then, his reward dinner that evening is unenviable when he eats fish cooked by Launch that gives Master Roshi and him food poisoning. Goku, in his characteristic naivete, remains almost totally unaware of Kuririn's one-sided rivalry with him.

As their grueling training progresses, however, Goku and Kuririn bond and, by the time of the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, are inseparable friends; this aspect of their relationship never diminishes. Goku is always there to offer the insecure Kuririn confidence and support, as well as fighting tips, and Kuririn is often on hand to offer a pragmatic perspective to the often overly innocent and idealistic Goku as well as clue him in on basic social knowledge that Goku missed out on growing up.

In his and Goku's first World Martial Arts Tournament, Kuririn fares very well, even defeating bullies from his old training school by kicking one of them straight through a wall. He easily advances as one of the eight warriors going on into the main event. He makes it past the quarter-finals, defeating the disgusting Bacterian, as without a nose, Bacterian's stink has no effect on him: at first, Kuririn is overwhelmed by the odor of Bacterian. However, Goku reminds Krillin that he does not have a nose. After realizing this, he is easily able to overcome his opponent. Unfortunately, however, Kuririn is defeated in the semi-finals, losing to Jackie Chun, who is Master Roshi in disguise.

Red Ribbon Army arc

After the tournament, he trains under Master Roshi again, although he takes a break to aid Goku in his search for the Dragon Balls and fight against the Red Ribbon Army. Kuririn, Goku and Bulma enter a cave to find some pirate treasure. But are followed by General Blue, who confronts Kuririn and defeats him in battle. During the battle, Kuririn manages to kick Blue in the face, giving Blue a nose bleed, which just makes Blue much more keen to kill Kuririn even more. Kuririn is almost killed when Blue uses his telekinesis to freeze Kuririn, however Goku manages to save him, and fights Blue.

When Goku defeats Blue, the cave begins to collapse, but Kuririn, Bulma, and Goku escape in a submarine, with General Blue surviving as well. Later on, Kuririn, Bulma and Goku soon return to Kame House with the ruby Bulma managed to retrieve from the Pirate Cave. However, the ruby is stolen by Launch, and General Blue, who had found the Kame House. Blue uses his telekinesis to tie up Kuririn and his friends and steal the Dragon Balls while setting off a bomb to explode soon. Luckily, Launch returns in her good state and unties Goku, as he throws the bomb away, and chases after General Blue.

Fortuneteller Baba arc

Later, Kuririn competes with Goku and Yamcha enter in Fortuneteller Baba's tournament for Goku to get the location of a Dragon Ball in order to revive Upa's fallen father. He offers to fight first, and is met by Fangs the Vampire, who starts to dance on the arena, greatly annoying Kuririn. Kuririn eventually loses the battle by getting his blood sucked out of his head, causing him to lose consciousness and getting kicked out of the area.

However, cunning Kuririn comes up with the strategy that allows them to later defeat See-Through the Invisible Man. The motif of Kuririn using his wits, rather than his strength, to his advantage is seen many times in both series, particularly as he becomes comparatively less powerful.

Tien Shinhan arc

At 17 years old, Kuririn enters the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. He forms a rivalry with Crane School student, Chaozu, during the preliminary matches.

While the fighters are drawing lots for the fight order, Chaozu puts himself against Kuririn using his telekinesis. Later on during their quarter-final match, after a one-sided match in Chaozu's favor, Kuririn uses his cunning in order to defeat Chaozu and yells math problems at him in order to use up his telekinetic powers; Kuririn manages to defeat Chaozu while Chaozu was trying to do basic mental arithmetic.

Kuririn then advances to the semi-finals where, after a long match, he is eventually defeated by his best friend, Son Goku, who used his stunning speed.

King Piccolo arc

After the 22nd Tournament, Goku realizes he left his objects behind, so Kuririn goes back to pick them up. Kuririn is then killed by getting his neck snapped by a kick from Tambourine, a "demon" who was out on his duty to kill all of the greatest martial artists so that King Piccolo would go unchallenged and rule the world with no problems. Kuririn's death played a large role in Goku's determination to stop the evil plans of King Piccolo, with Goku wishing to avenge his best friend and Master Roshi's death. Following King Piccolo's defeat, Kuririn and King Piccolo's many other victims are later revived thanks to the Dragon Balls.

Piccolo Jr. arc

Kuririn joins Tien, Yamcha, and Chaozu on a training journey to Korin Tower. Along the way, they save a village from the eruption of the Popo Poco Volcano. Kuririn gets tricked into drinking an alcoholic beverage, which he later regrets, but once again, provides comic relief. After they reach Korin Tower and receive his training, Kuririn and the others train on their own until the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.

After three years, when he meets an older Son Goku at the World Martial Arts Tournament, Kuririn hugs his best friend, saying he missed him. Eventually, Kuririn fights Piccolo, the reincarnation/son of King Piccolo. Kuririn lands some decent hits and manages to surprise Piccolo on several occasions, but quickly realizes Piccolo is far superior than him in fighting. During the match, Kuririn reveals he can use the hovering space technique. When Kuririn falls for Piccolo's After-Image Technique, which landed Piccolo a free hit on Kuririn, he eventually gives up.

Kuririn watches Goku and Piccolo spar out. When all hope for Goku seems lost when most of his limbs are broken, Kuririn, along with Tien and the others, attempt to assist Goku. But are suddenly caught off guard by Piccolo, now knowing they cannot help Goku, as Piccolo would defeat them easily. When Piccolo is defeated, Kuririn greatly criticizes Goku's choice of giving Piccolo a Senzu Bean to heal his wounds, and watches Goku and Chi-Chi head off from the World Tournament area on the Flying Nimbus.

Dragon Ball Z (Anime)

Saiyans arc

Five years have passed since Goku defeated Piccolo at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he, Son Goku and Bulma attend a reunion at Master Roshi's island, where Goku introduces them to his son, Son Gohan. While there, Kuririn is as surprised as the others by the arrival of Goku's brother, Raditz, who reveals Goku's origins as a Saiyan and slaps Krillin into Kame House, taking Gohan with him. Kuririn and Master Roshi offer to assist Goku in defeating Raditz, but instead, Piccolo makes an alliance with Goku to only team up against Raditz and then go their separate ways after.

After Piccolo and Goku defeat Raditz, Kuririn arrives to the scene and goes to Goku's side while he is dying and watches his body disappear. Goku's death causes great woe in Kuririn, who yells out in sadness over his best friend's death. He also witnesses Piccolo taking Goku's son with him into Break Wasteland to train, which Kuririn could do nothing about, as Piccolo was too strong for him. When Roshi, Kuririn, and Bulma return to Kame House. Kuririn and Roshi discuss the true threat they face from the new Saiyans invading in a year. Roshi asks for Kuririn to inform Chi-Chi of Goku's death and Gohan's kidnapping. Although he visits her, his fears of upsetting and angering Chi-Chi overcome him and he never actually reveals her what happened.

Soon, Yajirobe visits Kame House on a demand from Korin to inform Kuririn that Kami, the guardian of the Earth, has requested his arrival so they can train together for the one year they have left before the Saiyans arrive. At first, Kurirn incorrectly speaks Yajirobe's name, but is soon corrected. After gathering his companions, Kuririn, along with Tien, Chaozu, Yamcha and Yajirobe train with Kami and Mr. Popo. They do this in order to raise their power levels enough to be able to hold their own against the Saiyans. Like the others, Kuririn's power grows exponentially during this year, until he is now far more powerful than Raditz ever was. When the Saiyans arrive, Kuririn, Tien, Chaozu and Yamcha join Piccolo and Gohan to hold Vegeta and Nappa off until Goku's arrival.

When Yamcha is quickly killed by a kamikaze Saibaman, Kuririn is enraged at his friend's death and unleashes his Scattering Bullet attack that obliterates all but one. Piccolo, Vegeta, and Nappa are all impressed with the sheer power of his attack, but it is not fast enough to work on the Saiyans. The battle continues, with Chaozu and Tien falling. Piccolo, Kuririn and Gohan come up with a plan to grab Nappa's tail to weaken him, then while he is not on guard, they blast him. However, the plan failed as Nappa had already trained his tail from attacks. Eventually Piccolo dies, taking Kami and the Dragon Balls with him. With Kuririn and Gohan being the only two survivors left after the battle with Nappa.

Kuririn and Gohan are saved by Goku, just when Nappa is about to finish Gohan off. Goku shows his new power against Nappa, until Nappa is killed by Vegeta. Kuririn asks Goku to fight Vegeta somewhere else to make sure the corpses of their dead friends do not get destroyed. Goku has Kurirn take Gohan away from the battle. On the way back home Gohan has a change of heart, deciding they can not let Goku face this danger alone. They go to Gizard Wasteland and are able to help Goku with the Spirit Bomb he creates to defeat Vegeta. At first Kuririn has a hard time sensing Vegeta's evil ki, but King Kai teaches him how to sense evil ki. Once Kuririn sense's Vegeta's evil ki, Yajirobe tells him to hurry up and throw the spirit bomb. Kuririn eventually agrees with Yajirobe, and throws the ball, missing Vegeta, but Gohan bounces it back and it hits the Saiyan Prince, damaging him.

At the end of the battle, Kuririn is the only one of the five survivors (Goku, Kuririn, Gohan, Vegeta, and Yajirobe) who still has the ability to walk. As Vegeta struggles to crawl to his spaceship to escape, Kurirn picks up Yajirobe's katana and prepares to kill him to end his reign of terror. Goku tells Kuririn not to and he explains that it is not right as Vegeta is now defenseless and may turn over a new leaf as a result of being spared, and also so that he may be able to fight him once again, impressed by Vegeta's strength. Kuririn is understandably incredulous over Goku's compassion for the man who almost destroyed the planet and scoffs at the idea that Vegeta is capable of turning over a new leaf, but he ultimately and reluctantly decides to trust Goku's judgment and lets Vegeta go.

Namek & Frieza arc

With Piccolo, and thus Kami, dead, the Dragon Balls have become inactive and thus the Namek Saga begins, with everyone mourning the seemingly permanent deaths of their friends that died during the Saiyans saga. Fortunately, Kuririn comes up with an idea. If the Dragon Balls were created by Namekians, then they could travel to Piccolo's home world, Planet Namek, to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish Kami, and thus, Piccolo back to life. While Kuririn recovers from his injuries in Wukong Hospital Mr. Popo shows Kami's old spaceship and its incredible speed to Bulma. Afterwards, Bulma, Kuririn, and Son Gohan head off in the spaceship towards Planet Namek, to start their mission. After a few detours on their way there, the trio arrive and discover that this peaceful planet is under siege by galactic overlord, Frieza, the employer of the Saiyans and destroyer of Planet Vegeta (Goku and Vegeta's home world).

To make matters worse, Vegeta is on the planet as well. Both are also after the Dragon Balls for immortality, and Kuririn and Gohan discover that there is much more at stake than the lives of their departed friends. After watching Frieza's soldiers kill several Namekians, Gohan and Kuririn rescue a young Namekian named Dende from Frieza's henchman Dodoria and have to outrun Dodoria himself, eventually escaping by using the Solar Flare. Afterwards, Dende takes the two warriors to Grand Elder Guru, guardian of Namek, who is able to release the hidden ki potential inside them, causing their power levels to raise, once again, exponentially.

Newly powered-up, a complex three-sided game of "capture the Dragon Balls" ensues between Frieza, Vegeta, and Kuririn and Gohan. Eventually, when Vegeta discovers them, the Dragon Balls they collected are taken by Captain Ginyu to give to Frieza. They then decide to pool their resources so that the incredibly powerful Frieza can be defeated. Though Kuririn reluctantly agrees to give Vegeta the Dragon Balls when they get them back, he privately plans with Gohan to sneak off with the Dragon Balls and make their own wish to bring back their friends when the time comes.

He helps in the battles with Guldo and Recoome, managing to hit Guldo with a few Ki Blasts before Guldo time-freezes him. When fighting Recoome, Kuririn kicks him in the back of the head to defend Vegeta from Recoome's attack, the Recoome Eraser Gun. Because of this intervention, Recoome's attack backfires, knocking out all but six of his teeth. Angered, Recoome retaliates by kicking Kuririn in the back of the head, which puts him out of commission until he is healed by a Senzu Bean when Son Goku finally arrives on Namek.

After learning of the trouble on Namek, Goku who had been recovering in the hospital arrives to help. He makes quick work of the Ginyu Force, a group of mercenaries under Frieza's employ, but is badly injured and is taken by Vegeta to be recovered in a healing tank.

Kuririn, Gohan, and Vegeta recover the Dragon Balls but Vegeta is unable to wish for his immortality without the password. Kuririn leaves to get the password from Guru, but encounters Dende who informs him the password is "Porunga", they return and, they learn from Gohan that Vegeta is asleep. Kuririn decides that since Vegeta is asleep, that this is their chance to use the dragon balls to revive their late friends. In the Namekian language, Dende wishes for Piccolo to be returned to life and brought to Namek. This causes Kami to return to life on Earth as well, and Master Roshi begins steps to gather the newly restored Earth Dragon Balls.

Vegeta awakes a short time later and is enraged that his immortality has been taken from him, but Kuririn and Gohan are saved by the arrival of Frieza, who demands their immediate attention. Frieza transforms in his second, more powerful form, and attempts to attack Dende. Dende is pushed out of the way by Kuririn, who is quickly skewered on Frieza's horn and left for dead. He then turns his attention onto Gohan and starts badly thrashing him. With Frieza distracted, Dende uses his healing abilities to save Kuririn.

Here, the Destructo Disk makes its most memorable appearance when the supposedly dead Kuririn appears out of nowhere to deliver the attacks on Frieza, which cuts off the bottom part of his tail, the distraction saving Gohan from certain death. Enraged at his lost tail, Frieza charges after Kuririn, catching up to him easily. Kuririn knew he needed to keep Frieza distracted long enough for Dende to save Gohan. He tricked and evaded Frieza for quite some time, eventually using a Solar Flare, to temporarily blind him. This is another example of Kuririn's tendency to outwit opponents that he can not outfight.

Piccolo shows up, having fused with the warrior Nail, and joins Kuririn, Gohan and Vegeta in their fight. For a moment, it looks like the Z Warriors have the upper hand, before Frieza transforms again, leaving them in the dust. While Frieza is distracted, Vegeta urges Kuririn to try to kill him, which would grant Vegeta a zenkai, which raises his power. Kuririn is reluctant to attack Vegeta, but sees no other way and so he beams him through his belly. He then asks Dende to heal Vegeta, but Dende refuses, worrying Kuririn that maybe Vegeta may die. Eventually, Dende is convinced and Vegeta is healed, much more powerful than before.

Frieza finally learns of Dende's healing and so the tyrant kills him. Goku arrives back on the scene, and after witnessing Vegeta's horrible murder at the hands of Frieza, is enraged. Goku and Frieza then do battle, and although Goku puts up the best fight that Frieza has ever seen, he is still not able to defeat him. Enraged at how much of a challenge Goku has proven to be, Frieza, after surviving the Large Spirit Bomb. The tyrant lashes out at Goku's friends, badly injuring Piccolo and horribly murdering Kuririn by blowing him to pieces telekinetically.

The death of his best friend completely unhinges Goku, as he believes that Kuririn can never be returned to life as the Dragon can not grant the same wish twice. Goku's anger explodes and he transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time, granting him the power to defeat Frieza. In a desperate ploy Frieza attempts to destroy the planet, knowing that while he can survive in the vacuum of space, Goku cannot. Although Goku defeats Frieza, and although the rest make it off the planet, Goku appears to be killed with the planet's destruction.

Using the Namekian Dragon Balls, which can grant the same wish more than once, Bulma wishes for Kuririn to return to Earth alive and well, but Porunga says that he can only return him to the place he died. With planet Namek destroyed, they first wish to transport Kuririn's soul to the Check-In Station in Other World, and then they wish him alive again. Kuririn is returned to life, as are Yamcha, Tien and Chaozu as well as anyone killed by Frieza, which includes Vegeta and Dende. Everyone is delighted to hear that Goku is still alive, but are shocked when he refuses to come home yet, saying he needs to do more training in space. Though he misses his best friend, Kuririn settles back into life on Earth with his friends, thankful for another chance at life.

Garlic Jr. arc

"Gohan this is my... friend, Maron."

During the one year period before Goku's eventual return to Earth, Garlic Jr. returns. With Kuririn joining Gohan and Piccolo in the battle against the immortal tyrant, as they are the only three Z Fighters who avoid the Black Water Mist. During the battle he fights the Spice Boys and is badly wounded twice during the fight first when he takes a blast from Salt and later when Vinegar beats him up badly.

During this time period, Kuririn finally gets his first girlfriend; a ditzy bombshell by the name of Maron (not to be confused with his future daughter Marron), the relationship is marked by Kuririn's insecurity, and instead of proposing to her as he had planned, Kuririn decides to break up with her because he thinks she deserves better than him. He's floored when he discovers she would have married him, but by that point it is too late.

Trunks arc

Sometime after Garlic Jr.'s defeat, Kuririn attempts to perfect his Kamehameha technique to get his mind off the breakup with Maron, but he realized that his Kamehameha techniques still were not good enough when he ended up causing a tsunami instead of splitting the waves. He also was not told off for it by Master Roshi because he was asleep during that time and thus missed it. He later sensed that Frieza and his father King Cold were approaching Earth, and after contacting Gohan, he left for a specific spot at Northern Wastelands, close to where Frieza would arrive on Earth. After Frieza and King Cold's defeat, Kuririn learned of the threat of the Androids from the boy who defeated them via Piccolo. It was later revealed to him that the boy came from the future and was named Trunks. Goku, who came back from Planet Yardrat, showed him and the other Z Fighters the Instant Transmission technique, taking Roshi's sunglasses and giving them to Kuririn.

Androids & Cell arc

During the events of the Android Saga, Kuririn, along with the other Z Fighters, trained hard after Future Trunks grim tale of events soon to unfold. When the day of reckoning did arrive, Kuririn was right on the scene with his friends, ready to defend the Earth. When Son Goku battled Android 19, Kuririn watched in horror when his heart virus began to take it's affect on the Super Saiyan. After Vegeta arrives and kills Android 19, Android 20 (Dr. Gero), attempts to escape, knowing that both Piccolo and Vegeta could easily kill him. The Z Fighters give chase, and Kuririn is the first to find him near his laboratory.

Kuririn quickly realizes he is outgunned, and Dr. Gero attacks him without any restraint and beats him up. Shortly after, Kuririn watches Dr. Gero enter his lab and releases his ki to give word to the other Z Fighters. Piccolo and Tien are first on the scene, proud of Krillin for finding it. Just as they begin their assault, Kuririn informs them that Dr. Gero beat him to it. This angers Piccolo. While inside, Dr. Gero releases Android 17 and Android 18. They then kill the doctor and release another of his creations, Android 16. While the Z Fighters battle with the powerful machines, Kuririn stands back in horror, knowing that he would be no match for them. The androids defeat the Z Fighters with relative ease, and head off to kill Goku. Kuririn attempts to talk them out of it, but fails. However, Android #18 walks up, wishes him good luck, and kisses him on the cheek.

A short time later, Kuririn and Future Trunks destroy Dr. Gero's laboratory along with the early stage of the evil Cell. Meanwhile, after merging with Kami, Piccolo gave chase a fleeing Cell, knowing that he must stop the creature from absorbing 17 and 18. Tien and Kuririn join the hunt, and once again, Kuririn is the first to find the enemy. In filler, he saves a woman and her younger brother from Cell, just as the monster was about to absorb them. He gives them enough time to get onto an airplane, and uses Solar Flare on Cell to escape with them, but Cell catches up. Kuririn then proceeds to attempt and fight Cell only to be smashed through the airplane. Just before Cell nearly kills Kuririn, Piccolo and Tien then arrive, and Cell flees once again.

After Cell is successful in absorbing Android 17 and reaching his second state, Bulma creates a remote that can shut down Android 18 so that Cell could not absorb her. She instructs Kuririn to be the one to do it, but upon arriving at the battle scene, he sees how frightened she is, and he remembers the kiss she gave him. He then throws the controller to the ground and smashes it, revealing that he had fallen for the beautiful android. Then Cell uses the "Solar Flare" technique to blind everyone within sight and starts absorbing 18. Then Kuririn begins attacking Cell head on, attempting to save her, but it was too late, and Cell reaches his "Perfect" form. Out of anger, a heart-broken Kuririn foolishly attacks Cell, only to be smashed away in seconds. However, he did manage to sense a large bulk of Cell's power that he kept hidden a split-second before being kicked away by Perfect Cell, causing him to warn Future Trunks about his hiding his overall power upon being fed a Senzu Bean.

Cell Games arc

Cell then defeats both Vegeta and Trunks, and goes on to announce a tournament he calls, The Cell Games. Kuririn attended Capsule Corps. to locate where Cell's going to broadcast his Cell Games. They accidentally find Cell while Roshi and Oolong are watching a female exercise channel, with Cell rising through the floor. Kuririn then learns that Cell will destroy the earth if their is no one strong enough that will enter the Cell Games. Kuririn is among the others when he hears Trunks say that Goku and Gohan be apart of their Super Saiyan Team. This upsets Chi-Chi over all, as she says that she agrees on Goku entering the tournament, but not Gohan. Kuririn tries to reason with Chi-Chi, but she angrily doesn't listen to him. Kuririn then hears Chi-Chi revealing that Gohan's only future is to be a scholar, and that he can only train with Goku. But Gohan is not to become a Martial Artist. Kurirn is then shock when Chi-Chi refers all of Goku's friends as a "Little Gang". The Z Warriors then spend the remaining 10 days preparing for the games, as does Kuririn. He also spends time with his best friends, Goku and Son Gohan who decide not to train.

In a filler Episode, Kuririn is at Goku's house with Goku while Gohan went to a village called Chazke Village to run a shopping errand for his mother. Kuririn asks Goku if they should be relaxing. But Goku apologizes to Kuririn for relaxing to much on a cough, to which Kuririn calls Goku a lazy person.

In another filler, Gohan has his 11th birthday and all of his other memories are revealed. Goku is at first fishing and telling Kuririn that all he wants for Chi-Chi and Gohan is to enjoy themselves and not to worry about the Cell Games, since this moment is a peaceful time. Then when Goku is with Gohan and Kuririn. Goku makes all the apples from an old tree fall off gently, and Gohan catches them. Goku the sees that one apple landed in the hole that Gohan cause as an Infant.

When Gohan, Goku, and Kuririn return home, they celebrate Gohan's 11th Birthday with Chi-Chi and the Ox King. Before he blows out the candles, Gohan makes a wish in his mind. He wishes he would have enough strength to defeat Cell so his family would live in peace. However, when Gohan blows out the candles, he accidentally ends up blowing the cake everywhere on everybody's face. Chi-Chi says a boy would get severely punished for trashing his birthday cake. However, Chi-Chi's mood changes to happy and she says he can not help it because he is Goku's son, to which everyone joyfully laughs.

When the day finally arrives, Son Goku is the first to battle Cell. After a long and intense battle, Goku forfeits, and tells Gohan that it's his turn to fight. In order to unleash Gohan's anger, Cell spawns seven Cell Jr.s. They then proceed to attack the Z Fighters, including Kuririn. With all this, and Cell's murder of the peaceful #16, Gohan's anger explodes and he transforms into a Super Saiyan 2, and saves Kurirn from one of the Cell Juniors and kiss the evil creature in a quiet rage. Kuririn and everyone else watch Gohan kill all the Cell Juniors.

Then Cell to revert to his second form and cough up Android 18 after being kicked in the stomach by Gohan. Cell later attempts to self-destruct, only to be teleported away by Goku, killing himself in the process. Everyone realizes that Goku truly is dead, but this upsets Gohan overall. Kuririn then comforts him, and tells Gohan that Goku is proud of him including that the latter loves him. Kuririn immediately tends to her side, much to Vegeta's objections and calls Kuririn a fool. But Cell manages to survive and returns to Earth. Kurirn and the others witness Cell kill Future Trunks. This makes Vegeta angry, and tries to attack Cell but with no success. Kuririn, along with Piccolo, Tien, and Yamcha all join forces to help Gohan against the newly empowered Cell. Kuririn, like the rest, is brushed off by Cell's energy multiple times. Finally, after Vegeta provides the distraction needed, Cell is kill by Gohan for good in a Kamehameha wave struggle.

Once Gohan finally destroys Cell, Yamcha carries Gohan back to Kami's Lookout. After Dende heals Android 18, Yamcha tells 18 from a far away distance that Gohan defeated Cell. Then Yamcha along with Tien and Piccolo learn from Gohan that Kuririn is in love with Android 18, this shock Yamcha and Tien overall. After 18 assumedly leaves, He then makes the wish to resurrect everyone killed by Cell. Then he and the group learn from Goku, that he doesn't want to be wish back to life. Yamcha remarks that Goku has being cheerful since he was a little, Yamcha along Tien, Piccolo and Gohan reveal their favorite memory of Goku. Which is reveal in a flashback. When the group has difficulty thinking of a second wish, Yamcha jokingly contemplates asking Shenron for an expensive diamond necklace for the girl his going out with. He then hears Kuririn asking Shenron to remove the bombs from inside Android 17 and 18's body. This is successful, with Kuririn finally admitting to the others that he truly loves 18 . But everyone thinks that 17 is 18's boy friend, then she reveals her self to the others and corrects them when she angrily tells them that 17 is her twin brother. This surprises everyone, and 18 tells Kuririn that the wish he mad for her was really nice. Kuririn askes her if she wants to stay and join his friends, but she refuse and leaves. After 18 leaves, Yamcha tells Kuririn that 18 is in to him, and Kuririn asks Yamcha If he is sure.

Yamcha admits this, and tells Kuririn that he'll help him when It comes to romance since Goku helped him with Martial Arts. Tien then tells everyone that Goku doesn't want them to be sad, since he taught them not to hold back on their emotions. Tien then leaves after telling Gohan to take very good care of Chi-Chi for Goku, with Gohan and Yamcha saying goodbye to Tien. Then Yamcha, Gohan, Kuririn and Future Trunks leave Kami's Lookout, to go there separate ways. Yamcha tells Trunks that Vegeta try to avenge him after he saw Cell kill him. This surprises Trunks and makes him happy overall. The next day, Yamcha and the rest of the group see Future Trunks off as he leaves to return to his own timeline. Kuririn is lastly seen wondering who Gohan is looking at in the sky after Future Trunks departed to his timeline.

The World Tournament arc

Seven years later, Kuririn is shown to have grown (black) hair, married Android 18, and has had a daughter named Marron and lives with his family at Kame House, Master Roshi's home. Kuririn's family is an exceptionally ordinary household, but 18 is scary when she gets angry, so Kuririn goes out of his way a little bit for her.

When Goku announced his return to Earth for the World Tournament, Kuririn is ecstatic to see his best friend again. Kuririn enters the World Tournament along with Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, 18 and Videl and wins his first match up against the boastful Pintar without exerting himself. During the events of the tournament, the evil Majin Buu's origins are revealed and the danger the Earth now faces becomes apparent. Kuririn flies off with Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Videl, Kibito, and the Supreme Kai to Babidi's spaceship.

Majin Buu arc

Supreme Kai and Kibito lead Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Kuririn to the wizard Babidi's spaceship in hopes of stopping Buu. Upon arrival, Dabura kills Kibito, and using his magical spit, turns Kuririn and Piccolo into stone.

A while later Dabura is killed by the newly released Majin Buu, with Kuririn and Piccolo turn back to normal. Shortly after, Majin Vegeta arrives and kills himself by a self explosion in an attempt to kill Buu once and for all. It fails, and Buu miraculously regenerates himself. Piccolo and Kuririn flee with the unconscious Son Goten and Trunks back to the lookout tower. Goku soon arrives a while later, and introduces his idea of fusion. While training the boys, Babidi and Buu head towards West City, the location of the dragon ball radar and the Z Fighters only shot at reviving the dead. Goku intervenes, and transforms into a Super Saiyan 3. He is quickly able to gain the upper hand on Buu, and after a short fight, teleports back to the Lookout. When Goku's time on Earth is up Kuririn sees his best friend off as he returns to the afterlife.

Fusion arc

A day later, Super Buu finds Kami's Lookout and allows them to live for a short time. While on The Lookout Buu uses his Human Extinction Attack to kill all the people on Earth except for the family and friends on The Lookout. Due to Goten and Trunks' fusion, Gotenks, failing to kill Super Buu inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the monster manages to escape (even despite Piccolo blowing up the door, the only way out or in). He then proceeds to kill and eat all of the present company on the Lookout, including Kuririn, who attempts to fight Buu to buy time for the others to escape. He quickly fails, but dies a hero's death.

Kid Buu & Uub arc

After Kuririn is eaten by Majin Buu, he is sent in the Other World. There, he trains with King Kai until Kid Buu appears. Buu overwhelms Pikkon and Olibu quickly, and Kuririn risks his existence by attacking him from behind with his Destructo Disk, only to find that the attack has no effect at all (Yamcha remarks at how "it would have worked on anyone else but him"). He then is thrashed around by the monster, and is almost destroyed when Buu is drawn away by Goku and Vegeta to the Sacred World of the Kais.

During the battle with Kid Buu, Dende uses the Dragon Balls to wish all those killed by Buu back to Earth (which was also just brought back after being blown up by Buu). Kuririn as well of all of Earth's people transfer some of their energy to Goku's Super Spirit Bomb. Soon after, Goku launches the bomb, finally killing Majin Buu once and for all. The people of Earth and the Z Fighters then continue their lives, all together, at last.

Around ten years later, some of the Z Fighters attend another World Tournament. Kuririn does not participate, but he attends. After Goku leaves with Uub to train, Kuririn is not seen again until Dragon Ball GT.

Dragon Ball Super (Anime)

Battle of Gods arc

Six months after the battle with Majin Buu, Kuririn is in traffic with Android 18 and Marron heading towards Bulma's birthday party. They could've avoied traffic, but 18 took longer than expected on make-up. After being fed up with traffic, Kuririn puts the car into a capsule and flies towards the cruise ship. On the way there, he sees Yamcha and Puar, then Tien and Chaozu.

At the party, Kuririn asks Bulma how old she is. Then he is suspected by Android 18 of not wanting the second place prize of the bingo tournament, a castle though he insists otherwise. Following Beerus and Whis being introduced to him by Bulma, Krillin offers Beerus food, only to be confronted by Vegeta, later clapping for Beerus and saying his name with most of the other attendees. Krillin eats one of the appetizers and runs around afterward with a flaming mouth, the result of it being too spicy and falls to the ground.

Resurrection F arc

While Goku was working out at the field, Kuririn came by to visit him. Kuririn had thought Goku might have gone off to King Kai's to train again, so he is glad to find him there. Seeing that Goku is still set on continuing his training, Kuririn reminisces about how the two of them used to train together under Master Roshi. But now, Goku has grown strong enough to be a match for even the God of Destruction Beerus. Curious to experience for himself just how strong Goku has become, Kuririn asks Goku to hit him. After some persuading, Goku does sending Kuririn flying across the countryside, and straight through a house or two. Goku teleports to try and catch him but misses, and Kuririn crashes straight into a large boulder. Back at Goku's house, Android 18 treats Kuririn's bruise. Kuririn wanted to see if he wanted to retire fighting, and getting hit by Goku confirmed his decision.

Kuririn later becomes a police officer and was first seen chasing a pair of robbers until Bulma interferes and helps knock them out. Although he’s thankful for Bulma’s help, he gives her a ticket for speeding. Just then his phone rings. He and Bulma are summoned over to Gohan’s house to try and help deal with the situation of Chi-Chi kicking out Gohan and Mr. Satan for their violent behavior, with Goku and Goten showing up at the same time too. Bulma promises to help calm Chi-Chi down if Kuririn gets rid of her ticket. Kuririn then whispers to Goku if he can search for Vegeta’s ki, and teleport after him after Goku realizes that Vegeta is training on Beerus's planet. Kuririn learns that Goku wants to join him but sadly, Goku cannot sense Vegeta’s ki at all.

Four months later, when Kuririn was busy at work, he got a phone call from Bulma saying that Frieza has come back to life and is approaching the Earth. He receives the Turtle School gi from 18 and is happy to know that it still fits. His wife then shaves his hair and then Kuririn leaves Marron in 18's care before he leaves. He then picks up Master Roshi and they meet up with Tien, Gohan, and Piccolo to fight Frieza and his forces despite two of them having kids at home. Initially Krillin was scared of so many soldiers and Frieza again. Sensing his fear and recognizing him, Frieza offers one of his planets to whomever kills Kuririn. A large portion of the army goes after Kuririn, who much to his shock manages to easily dodge them.

Master Roshi tells Kuririn his eyes can follow the most powerful being in the world, mentioning Cell, Buu and Beerus. Roshi tells him weaklings like these won't ever touch him. Roshi also tells him he is a student of the great Master Roshi meaning they can never beat him. Having his confidence restored, Kuririn unleashes the Scatter Kamehamha, leveling all of the soldiers sent by Frieza to kill him. Krillin continues to assist and attempts to help out with Tagoma but is dropped along with the others. After getting back to his feet and after Gohan takes down Captain Ginyu (whom took over Tagoma), Kuririn and Piccolo attempt to go help Gohan with Frieza but are held back by Ginyu.

He then watches the fight between Goku and Frieza (during the time, Freiza launches a ki blast at him, but Goku saves him by deflecting it) and later Vegeta who steps in after Goku is taken out and Kuririn uses the last Senzu Bean on Goku. After Frieza destroys the Earth, Kuririn gets protected by Whis, along with the others. Whis undoes time for Goku to able to kill Frieza and send him back to Earth's Hell. He is later seen at a party, with the other Z fighters who participated in the fight.

Universe 6 arc

At least a year after the battle with Golden Frieza, Kuririn hears from No. 18 that Goku and co. are having a picnic in space. Kuririn finds Goku to get confirmation. Kuririn is informed what really is happening, a tournament against Universe 6. He then tags along with Goku and Vegeta to find the last two members on their team.

The last two members for Team Universe 7 is Majin Buu, who Goku promises the Super Dragon Balls to, and Piccolo. On the day of the tournament, Whis transport the Dragon Team to Beerus' planet to pick up Beerus and their other teammate.

Potaufeu arc

Kuririn attends Bulma's Universe 7 victory party, and is tasked along with everyone else to keep Monaka's secret safe from Goku. After Goku fought with "Monaka" (Beerus wearing a Monaka costume), Yamcha accidentally points out Monaka passing out from the fight. After Goku sees that there are two Monakas the other Z-Fighters scorn Yamcha.

Future Trunks arc

Kuririn helps Piccolo harvest Chi-Chi's lettuce farm as Goku leaves for Beerus' planet. Later, when Future Trunks arrives back from his timeline, Kuririn and Piccolo both meet him and learn about the threat of Black Goku. Later, when he and Zamasu are defeated, Kuririn is among the group saying goodbye to Future Trunks and Future Mai as they leave for a new timeline to live in.

Later on, Kuririn is in a battle with criminals and his arm is grazed by a bullet. Goku shows up and apprehends the criminals, wanting Kuririn to train with him. Kuririn says he gave up fighting, but 18 calls him a spineless weakling for having so much trouble against usual criminals. Kuririn agrees to train with Goku and they head to Kame House for old time's sake. Goku is forced to wear a heavy-weighted Turtle suit and is banned from flying or going Super Saiyan, but even then he easily defeats Kuririn in a quick sparring match. Master Roshi gives the two an opportunity to train by asking them to collect paradise plants on a remote island. The two do so and wander into the Forest of Terror, where illusions of many enemies of their past manifest and surround them. Kuririn is incredibly afraid as he confronts his previous killers: Tambourine, Frieza, and Super Buu.

Throughout the fight, Kuririn is afraid and even at one point gives up and tries to escape. He then picks up the resolve to fight back and learns the secret about the illusions: they disappear when he suppresses his energy. Kuririn regains his will to fight, unlocking his power back, and even helps Goku defeat the illusion of Super Shenron created by Fortuneteller Baba. Kuririn, with his fighting spirit returned, vows to continue fighting for his sake and his family's as the two return the newly-grown paradise plant to Master Roshi. 18 shaves Kuririn head when he goes home. Kuririn then trains with Goku again afterwards, still saying he's banned from turning Super Saiyan.

Universe Survival arc

Along with the other Z fighters, Krillin participates in the Tournament of Power to save Universe 7 from destruction. Before deciding on Krillin Gohan was unsure if he should or not as Hercule mentioned he retired a long time ago. Goku and Gohan sit down and image train to determine Krillin's chances, with Gohan playing the role of Krillin and Goku playing the role of Basil. While able to hold his own for a time Krillin was ultimately killed during the image training with Gohan saying that would be Krillin's fate. Goku says Krillin will be fine and tells Gohan that Krillin has been training again and has all sorts of new crazy techniques. Trusting his father Gohan agrees. After Bulla's birth, Goku leaves to go and recruit Krillin and 18. Boyh refuse at first until Goku lies about there being a prize money. 18 is suspicious but Krillin is oblivious to the lie, and decides to test his full power first. Gohan comes by later and tests Krillin himself and later Goku fights Krillin at full power.

After accepting the invitation for the Tournament of Power, Krillin haves a sparring match with 18, and with Marron cheering both of them on.

Arriving at Capsule Corp. to leave for the tournament, Krillin is surprised to learn Master Roshi has been training to overcome his weakness to seduction but believes it is necessary if they want to win the prize money. Piccolo and Tien are confused by this and Gohan is forced to admit it was a lie, as well as the fact the universe will be erased if they lose. When Goku arrives, Krillin angrily condemns Goku for not only lying but bribing them with money all because Goku thought Krillin would be too scared to participate. Krillin considers dropping out but changes his mind when Beerus threatens to kill him and Bulma offers to pay everyone money for participating.

Krillin and the others listened on as Goku and Beerus were discussing adding a new 10th member, Krillin and the Universe 7 team were shocked when Goku suggested bringing Frieza back to life. After Goku returns to Capsule Corp. with Frieza, they are transported by Whis to the World of Void. When meeting the other fighters at the Tournament of Power, Krillin asks Master Roshi about his weakness for females and the Turtle Hermit assures him that it will no longer hinder him. Once the Battle Royal begins Krillin chooses to stay alongside Gohan, Piccolo, Tien Shinhan, and Master Roshi; They were soon surrounded by Lavender Botamo, Comfrey, Shosa and Dercori - the Universe 7 team launched a combined assault (with Krillin firing his Destructo-Disk), but it did little to nothing against their opponents.

Krillin fights against Jium and used his Destructo Disc Triple Blade to injure his wing, which stunned and slowed Jium down enough to allow Master Roshi to blast him out of the ring with a MAX Power Kamehameha. Krillin then managed to save his wife 18 from being eliminated by Shosa, and the two worked together to get him out of bounds. Krillin soon fights against Majora and uses the Solar Flare X100, but the latter was unaffected due to his blindness; the two engaged in combat and Krillin threw his shoe at him in order to overwhelm his senses due to Krillin's strong body odor off and successfully got Majora out of the ring after firing a Kamehameha wave. However, while Krillin was celebrating his victories, he was ambushed by Frost and was the first member of Team Universe 7 to fall off the arena. After reappearing in the stands, Krillin is belittled by almost everyone, including Beerus, Shin, 17 and 18.

Throughout the Tournament Krillin has been cheering on Universe 7. When Goku is battling Jiren; Krillin along with Gohan, Piccolo, Android 18, Android 17, Frieza, Tien Shinhan & Master Roshi gives Goku his energy to form the Spirit Bomb.

Dragon Ball GT (Anime)

Baby arc

Kuririn appears briefly in Dragon Ball GT: he is seen with his wife Android 18 and daughter Marron several brief times through the series. Still true to his role in comic relief, these brief intermissions often see Android 18 and Marron ordering him around. He along with almost everyone else on Earth are taken over by the parasite Baby. During Pan, Mr. Satan and Majin Buu's attempt to sneak aboard a ship to New Planet Plant, they rude Kuririn, forcing him along with his family and others to remain on Earth and await for further order from Baby.

While shopping in the city, Kuririn is forced to carry both Marron and his wife's items when the Earth is nearly destroyed by a blast during the fight between Goku and Baby Vegeta. Along with everyone else, Kuririn is cured by the Sacred Water and escapes Earth's destruction caused by the Black Star Dragon Balls. After the Earth is revived by the Namekian Dragon Balls and everyone returns to Earth, he and his family attend a party at Capsule Corporation.

Super 17 arc

Kuririn is seen a year later at the 31st World Martial Arts Tournament with Gohan and the others as they observe Goku, Pan, Majuub (disguised as Papayaman), and Mr. Satan competing in the Tournament

Some months later, Kuririn is confronted and killed by Android 17 (at the time brainwashed by his clone created from the depths of Hell by Dr. Myuu) after Kuririn tried to help him remember how much he hated Dr. Gero when 17 tried to convince Android 18 to join him. After seeing her husband killed by her brother, 18 goes mad with rage and attacks 17 with everything she has in an attempt to avenge Kuririn

After being defeated, 18 holds her husband's hand and tells him she loves him. After 18 and Goku defeat Super 17, the seven Dragon Balls (which are now cracked because of overuse) are gathered to revive Kuririn and everyone who was killed by the villains from Hell, but the Shadow Dragons appear after attempting to make the wish.

Shadow Dragons arc

After defeating Omega Shenron, Goku wishes to revive everyone who was killed during the Super 17 and Shadow Dragon sagas, which brings Kuririn back to life. Before departing with Shenron, Goku asks him to stop at Kame House to say goodbye to Krillin and Master Roshi. In his final appearance, Kuririn has an emotional final meeting with Goku on Master Roshi's island home along with Master Roshi himself. They reminisce over old times, with Kuririn and Goku have a friendly sparring match. Kuririn wins, to both his and Goku's joy. After this, Goku suddenly disappears leaving Kuririn very confuse, and asking Goku where he went off to. Kuririn is lastly seen in a of flashback by Goku at the end of Dragon Ball GT.

Film Appearances

Dragon Ball Z TV Special 2

In Age 766, Goku had been stricken down by a deadly Heart Virus that had no cure. Future Kuririn, along with the other Z Fighters and company await the news of Goku's health outside Goku's house. However, Goku passes away, leaving Kuririn without his best-friend. Six months later on May 12th, Age 767, the Androids attack.

In the TV Special, Kuririn is shown being attacked by Future Android 17 and Future Android 18, each shooting a Finger Beam at him at the same time. In Future Trunks' flashback in "Ghosts from Tomorrow", it is revealed that Kuririn was blown up and killed by Android 17's Photon Flash. Future Kuririn was one of the last Z Fighters to die. He was 31 years old at the time of his death.

• Like most characters in the series, the name Kuririn is a pun. In his case, the Japanese source of Kuririn is made up of two parts. The first two syllables come from 栗 (kuri), which means "chestnut" in reference to his shaved head (the "chestnut" pun is also carried over to his daughter Marron). The second part of his name comes from 少林 (Shōrin; "Shaolin" in Chinese), as his early character designs were closely modeled on Shaolin monks. Other beliefs are that his name comes from kuri-kuri/kurin-kurin (an onomatopoeia for something cute and round), kuri-kuri shita me (meaning "big round eyes"), or the words kurikuri (which can mean "bald") and rin (a word added to the end of a name to make it sound cute). During the Namek Saga, Krillin's name appears as Akira Toriyama spells it: Krillin is seen wearing a cap with "Kamesen" on it (an abbreviated form of Master Roshi's alternate name Kame-Sen'nin) with his Romaji name, Kulilin, right underneath it. He is also seen wearing a cap with the Japanese name for turtle, "KAME", on it.
• In the poll of the top 20 best characters featured in the book Dragon Ball Forever, Krillin was voted number 7 by Japanese fans. He was the highest of the humans by a large margin.
• In total, Kuririn dies four times. He is killed once by Tambourine, once by Frieza, once by being eaten by Super Buu, and finally by a brainwashed Android 17. Kuririn is also the only character to die in Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT.
• His future counterpart is ironically killed by the future versions of his wife and brother-in-law, who also killed the rest of the Z Warriors with the exception of Future Trunks in the Dragon Ball Z TV special 2. Oddly enough, when Future Trunks has a flashback about Krillin's death in the anime series, Krillin is killed by Future 17 only, with Future 18 nowhere to be seen.
• In the anime's movies and filler material, Kuririn is often the subject of visual gags resulting in his injury (a perfect example would be his failed attack on Dr. Wheelo in Dragon Ball Z movie 2).
• Comically, Kuririn is the only good character in the video game Shin Budokai who does not get his wish granted. In which case, Shenron left before Krillin could even think of a wish.
• In what is sometimes considered a plot hole between the anime and anything related to Garlic Jr., Krillin does not seem to be aware that Gohan is Goku's son in the first episode of the anime, when he saw him in the movie Dragon Ball Z movie 1 and he was referred to as Goku's son in front of Krillin (only in the English version, however). Ironically, it is he who seems to refer to the events of the movie in the episode "Gohan Goes Bananas!": when he tries to decide what to tell Chi-Chi about Goku's death and Gohan being trained by Piccolo, one of the things he thinks about saying is "Gohan's been kidnapped again"; the "again" implies that Gohan has been kidnapped at least once before, which is either when Garlic Jr. or Raditz kidnaps Gohan.
• Kuririn is the only person to come face to face with every form of each main villain in Dragon Ball Z (if filler is included). He was there when Vegeta first came, he went back to help Goku and saw his Great Ape form. He was there for all 4 of Frieza's forms (unless one counts his 100% state as a different form), he tried to fight all forms of Cell, and he saw both of Garlic Jr.'s forms. He was there at the release of Fat Majin Buu, tried to fight Super Buu, and in filler, tried to fight Kid Buu.
• Kuririn is the only character to encounter Broly in all three movies (unless you count Goku planning to fight Broly at the end of Bio-Broly), although he only truly fought Broly in Bio-Broly (as he did not fight him at all in the first movie, and was knocked out before he even got the chance to attack in the second).
• Kuririn breaks the fourth wall in Dragon Ball Z movie 10 by saying "None of you would have lasted a season without me!" Although he might of been referring to the weather seasons.
• Kuririn is the only other character besides Goku to be seen launching the Spirit Bomb (outside of video games).
• Kuririn appears on the cover art of the Voodoo Glow Skulls: Who Is, This Is album in his Battle Armor.
• In January 2007, Oricon conducted a poll in which they asked Japanese manga/anime fans which characters from any anime/manga they would most like to see in their own spinoff series; Krillin ranked third in the men's poll and sixth in the overall poll.
• Despite being three years younger than Yamcha, Kuririn seems to have aged quicker. For example, during Dragon Ball GT, Kuririn has gray hair and considers himself old at 54, while in the last scene to include him, Yamcha seems to have aged slower being 57 and still looking as if he is in his prime.
• When revived with a Senzu Bean in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, Krillin jokes about becoming a Super Krillin.
• Kuririn is one of the few characters who have broken the fourth wall. In his case, he wonders why the author, Akira Toriyama, is photocopying the same panels of Goten and Trunks' fusion dance.
• Krillin was born in Age 736; In reality this year is the equivalent of 1971. Krillin is also the only character up to date in Dragon Ball that is a year younger than Goku; the second coming to Mr. Satan.
• In Dragon Ball Z movie 15, when Bulma calls Kuririn his cellphone to inform him about Frieza's return, the ringtone that plays is We Are!, which is the original opening theme of the One Piece anime. This is likely a reference to Kuririn's Japanese voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka, who voices the One Piece series main character, Monkey D. Luffy. This also applies to the English version, where Kuririn's English voice actor, Sonny Strait, voices Usopp.
