Sarutobi Konohamaru (猿飛木ノ葉丸) is a genin level shinobi of Konohagakure after in which he was named.

Naruto Shippuuden 234-0033

He hails from the Sarutobi clan, and he is a member of Team Ebisu. Many years later on in Konoha, while being a jonin rank shinobi now he officially leads Team Konohamaru, which consists of Uzumaki Boruto, Uchiha Sarada and Mitsuki. He works very hard to one day be as strong as his idol, Uzumaki Naruto and to become the next Hokage after Naruto.

Background

Konohamaru Sarutobi was born on the day of December 30th to two very elite ninja who served as both an jonin, and a Anbu that are directly under the Hokage's command. Konohamaru was also born as the only Grandson to the late Sarutobi Biwako, and the late Sarutobi Hiruzen. He is also the Grandnephew to the late Sarutobi Asuma, who was his father's older brother. He was named after the village of Konohagakure by his grandfather. Because Hiruzen was the Third Hokage, Konohamaru was never referred to by his actual given name by all the kind villagers, he was only called "Honorable Grandson" (お孫様). Wanting to be acknowledged as just a person and not simply as the Third Hokage's grandson, Konohamaru had began trying to defeat Hiruzen in order to replace him as the next Fifth Hokage.

Personality

Although he's introduced midway through a failed attempt to defeat his elderly grandfather, Konohamaru Sarutobi initially finds a certain enjoyment in his status as the Third Hokage's grandson. He is often spared from being punished or scolded by someone for his actions, and will also goad people who are unwilling to take a hand against him. When Uzumaki Naruto shows no restraint towards him and freely hits him, Konohamaru becomes very impressed by him and declares Naruto to be both his arch rival and role model, while variously calling him "Oyabun" (オヤブン) and "Niichan" (兄ちゃん). Like Naruto, Konohamaru also tends to be loud, headstrong, and spends an inordinate amount of time inventing perverted ninjutsu. Including in the anime, he also even impersonates Naruto's kabuki ninja registration photograph when taking his own after becoming a genin.

While most of Konohamaru's reverence for Naruto is well deserved, some of Konohamaru's praise for him is owed more to his own gullibility and denseness. When he trips during their first meeting he assumes Naruto did something, unwilling to blame his own clumsiness. Konohamaru's Cloak of Invisibility Technique is constantly discovered by Naruto not because of Naruto's skill but rather because Konohamaru's disguises are so poor. Naruto encourages this to a degree, while never refusing the compliments and by never correcting Konohamaru's perception of him as a lady's man.

When frustrated or excited he ends many of his sentences with "kore" (コレ), much like Naruto does with "dattebayo". In Part II, Konohamaru and his teammates would still sneak up on Naruto. An example being when Naruto become the Hero of Konoha for defeating Pain. When Naruto was heading to the new rebuild Ramen Ichiraku Bar, Konohamaru and his teammate were sneaking up on Naruto in person. But Naruto notice their chakra presence, and used tactics to get away from the group while they kept asking him for an interview so they can show it to the current Ninja Academy students that look up to him.

Konohamaru has shown immense emotional endurance, by recovering from tragedies close to his heart, such as the deaths of his grandfather and his uncle, Sarutobi Asuma, in a relatively short time. Therefore displaying an ability to cope with heart-shattering grief that goes beyond his years. This aspect of his personality is likely in emulation of Naruto's take on the Will of Fire, as Naruto also had to cope with immense loss and depression at such a young age, but he still stuck to his optimistic and willful outlook.

Konohamaru also picks up a number of good qualities from Naruto, such as the realization that becoming the Hokage is a long process and that there are no shortcuts for the job. This commits Konohamaru to his studies in the Ninja Academy and makes the job of his tutor, Ebisu, considerably easier. In his quest to rise up to Naruto's level, Konohamaru masters a number of jonin level jutsu while still being a genin. He also adopts a refusal to run from a fight, even against superior opponents. In the anime, Konohamaru eventually moves past his competition with Naruto for the Hokage mantle, while deciding instead that he will become the Hokage only after Naruto has had his turn.

Years later on, Konohamaru becomes extremely emotional at the prospect that he can mentor Naruto's son, Uzumaki Boruto, in the same way that Naruto mentored him. His compassion for Boruto has grown to brotherly love, by secretly loving how Boruto would often refer to him as "Big Brother" even though he wants Boruto to call him sensei and wants greatly to see Boruto flourish. He has also formed a strong bond with Hyuga Hanabi, who also has a similar compassion for Boruto.

Konohamaru is shown to care greatly for all his students, especially Boruto, who is the son of his mentor, Naruto. As he has known Boruto ever since he was a baby. He was overcome with joy when Boruto asked Konohamaru to teach him the Rasengan as Naruto was the one who taught it to him. Despite his great care for his students, in the anime, he was shocked and initially conflicted when the revelation that Mitsuki was the son of Orochimaru, the man who killed Konohamaru's grandfather, by having a difficult time in gathering his true feelings until Mirai spoke with him of it.

He reveals that his Ninja Way is his girlfriend as he refuses to get involved with romance while training to take Naruto's place as the next Hokage. However he starts to fall in love with Remon upon saving her from falling off of a building. However he also gives up developing a relationship with Remon after her memories were erased.

Appearance

Naruto Shippuuden 299-0369

Konohamaru in Part II.

Konohamaru Sarutobi has short spiky dark brown hair, and black eyes. He also has a small chip in his tooth. He has light fair skin, and two thick eyebrows. In Part I, he wore a yellow shirt with the Konoha symbol in red, grey shorts, and a long blue scarf. When he was first introduced, Konohamaru wore a grey helmet that had an orange frowning face on the right side, a red circle on the left side, and had a hole at the top for his hair to stick out of.

Eventually, he replaced the helmet with the pair of goggles that Naruto gave him after Umino Iruka gave the former his forehead protector.

Konohamaru - The Last

Konohamaru as a young adult.

In Part II, Konohamaru grew in size and wears a similar outfit as his previous one, with longer pants and a pale green jacket with a dark green stripe down the middle. He also retains his long scarf and now wears a Konoha forehead protector in place of his goggles. In some of Konohamaru's appearances in the anime, he is depicted with blush marks on both of his cheeks.

Two years after the war, his outfit consists of a grey/black zip-up jacket. While wearing dark grey pants, sandals, and bandages around both his arms. He does not wear his scarf at all during this time. For Naruto and Hinata Hyūga's wedding, he wears a formal attire.

Several years later on, upon reaching adulthood, he has grown into a tall young man with spiky hair, while wearing his long blue scarf around his neck again. In the Boruto movie, Konohamaru wears the new standard flak jacket along with a short blue scarf around his neck, dark blue pants and black sandals. He also wears a simple black elastic headband and a red armband with the Sarutobi crest on his left arm.

Abilities

Naruto Episode002-333

Konohamaru's Sexy Technique.

Konohamaru Sarutobi's performance in the Ninja Academy was rather poor, failing to properly use basic techniques such as the Cloak of Invisibility Technique and Transformation Technique. After meeting Naruto, he tried branching out into variations of the Sexy Technique, with no practical use. As a genin in Part II, Konohamaru began displaying aptitude as a shinobi, engaging the Naraka Path during Pain's Assault. During the rebuilding efforts of Konoha after Pain's invasion, Konohamaru was in better physical shape than his teammates, being able continue to fetch and carry building materials (wood, etc.), while his teammates are forced to sit and rest for periods of time, not having his stamina. By adulthood, he had achieved the rank of Jonin, and his skills were held in high regard by Aburame Shino. He is also noted to be quite a formidable opponent by Kashin Koji. In the anime, he also began using a pair of chakra blades, like his late uncle, and was capable of fighting Jūgo with it long enough to snap him out of his rampage.

Taijutsu

Konohamaru has displayed a high level of speed and evasive skills, as shown when he could dodge most of the Naraka Path's attacks in their short skirmish. In the anime, he has shown some skill in taijutsu, being able to hold his own in a scuffle with Watase. During said scuffle, he demonstrated a high level of pain tolerance, as he was able to grab a kunai without flinching, although his hand received a bleeding wound from it. Konohamaru also has the most stamina out of his team-mates, as shown during the work to rebuild Konoha after Pain's Invasion, while Konohamaru was easily carrying wood, Udon and Moegi were worn out. As an adult, he shown noticeable taijutsu prowess, able to effortlessly block Boruto's assault and just as easily subdue him. He can also be able to easily defeat several academy students during the Genin Exams, including the Sharingan-wielding Uchiha Sarada. He could also perfectly counter the attacks of two mercenary ninja, while in mid-jump holding a person.

Ninjutsu

After meeting Naruto, much of his arsenal becomes comprised of sexy techniques he learned from or based off Naruto's. He did however with some instruction from Naruto learn the jonin-level Shadow Clone Technique. In the anime, he has also demonstrated aptitude with other high-level techniques such as the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique as well as with the generic Body Flicker Technique. In the anime, by the time he became a Ninja Academy teacher, Konohamaru became able to summon giant toads to aid him in battle. His personal summon being Gamagoro. He can counter fūinjutsu placed on him by an enemy.

Rasengan

Naruto Shippuuden 161-314

Konohamaru's Rasengan.

Sometime during Part I in the Manga (Part II in the anime), Naruto taught Konohamaru how to use the Rasengan. His version of the Rasengan is, like Naruto's, performed using a shadow clone to control the power of the chakra, but is smaller than Naruto's (regular-sized in the anime). It was also shown that Konohamaru holds the Rasengan with a shadow clone the way Naruto originally held his Big Ball Rasengan. After hearing how he used Rasengan against Pain, Naruto praised him, and promised Konohamaru that he would teach him how to make The Big Ball Rasengan. Later, in the anime, Konohamaru learned how on his own to perform the Big Ball Rasengan, greatly shocking Naruto. By adulthood, Konohamaru could apply Wind Release to his Rasengan, a feat only Naruto Uzumaki was able to accomplish.

Nature Transformation

Naruto Shippuuden 234-0227

Konohamaru using Fire Release: Ash Pile Burning.

In lieu of his great talent, the anime has shown that Konohamaru has also displayed competent use of nature transformation, being able to use Fire, Wind and Yang Release techniques. His proficiency with Fire Release in particular has allowed him to learn the Sarutobi Clan's Fire Release: Great Flame Technique, as well as his grandfather's Fire Release: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet. In the anime, he is also able to use Lightning Release, creating a stream around him to repel enemies in order to shock anyone who comes into contact with him.

Intelligence

In Part I of the anime, Konohamaru shows that he is quite knowledgeable about chakra and fairly skilled in making traps. After the timeskip, he is shown to be fairly analytical in battle, able to quickly analyse and understand the mechanisms of his opponent's technique.

Naruto (Part I)

Introuduction arc

One day Konohamaru Sarutobi barges into his grandfather's, office intent on finally defeating him and thus replacing him as the Fifth Hokage. He immediately trips on entering and assumes that Uzumaki Naruto, the only other person in the room, is responsible. Although Ebisu, his tutor, tried to discourage this, it was only through Naruto's influence that Konohamaru realised that there would be no shortcut to becoming Hokage. Naruto defeat Ebisu with his Harlem Sexy Technique. This made Konohamaru realize of geeting the Hokage Title by force. Instead, it is a dream that would take many years of hard work and discipline to realize. Naruto told Konohamaru about his past, and that he has three people that acknowledges him (Umino Iruka, Sarutobi Hiruzen, and Konohamaru himself). Konohamaru decided to make Naruto his rival, in which Naruto accepted the Challenge. Unknown to them that Hiruzen saw the whole thing through his crystal glass ball, and was happy that Naruto began his path as a shinobi.

Konohamaru was also going to attack Naruto, but Naruto told him that he had to go to the Ninja Academy to hear a Graducation speech from Iruka. Naruto told Konohamaru that today he was a shinobi, and that he had to also meet two of his squad teammates. He then showed Konohamaru his Konoha forehead protector that he wore on his forehead, this shocked amazed Konohamaru overall. Naruto told Konohamaru that he'll see him later, and continued to walk to the Ninja Academy.

Chunin Exam arc

Konohamaru and his friends, Udon and Moegi, approach Naruto as he's returning from a mission. Although he previously promised to "play ninja" with them, Naruto tries to get out of it by claiming he needs to train. Naruto's teammate, Haruno Sakura overhears this and asks what "playing ninja" entails. Not knowing who she is, Konohamaru assumes she's Naruto's girlfriend, which Naruto doesn't deny. Sakura punches Naruto out of disgust and, when Konohamaru, Udon, and Moegi call her names for attacking him, she attacks them as well. While running for safety they collide with Kankurō and Temari, Sunagakure shinobi. Kankurō tries to beat up Konohamaru out of annoyance, but he's saved by Sasuke Uchiha. Konohamaru is afterwards disappointed by Naruto, especially in comparison to Sasuke and the Suna-nin.

Sometime later, Iruka Umino takes Konohamaru's Nina Academy class to the Hokage Monument for a history lesson about the role of Hokage. The Third Hokage happens to see them during their lesson and tells them how important it is to protect those precious to them. When asked who is precious to him, the Third singles out Konohamaru (and the rest of Konoha's citizens), making Konohamaru smile. Later, in the anime, as Naruto is heading to the final round matches for the Chūnin Exams, Konohamaru offers to take him on a shortcut. Each of the shortcuts actually take longer and Naruto only barely reaches his destination in time. Later at the Ninja Academy, Konohamaru saw Iruka depress and worry about Naruto's match with Neji, Konohamaru told Udon they can escape Iruka, but Iruka told them to stay in their seats.

Invasion of Konoha arc

Iruka took the Ninja academy student in a hidden shelder while the village was being at by the sand village ninja, and sound ninja. Konohamaru wanted to use the restroom by bump into Anko amd Ayame. Iruka told him and everyone else that their are rules that Konoha Ninja have to follow, in order to stay safe. Konohamaru was later seen at his grandfather's funeral, and hugged him. Unknown to them, that Naruto was looking at them with a sad look on his face.

Search for Tsunade arc

Konohamaru was angry that Tsunade was Hiruzen and Minato's successor for the Hokage title. So he made booty traps to make sure she wouldn't get in the building. Moegi and Udon told Naruto about it. Naruto trys to reason with Konohamaru, but he doesn't listen. Naruto then saw Tsunade, and was amaze that she got through all of Konohamaru's booty traps to get a file book to read in order to help Rock Lee with his Operation Surgery. Konohamaru then went to hangout with Naruto, and Naruto told him the topics that Iruka already told both of them. Naruto made a promise to tell Tsunade to make a law that he and Konohamaru came up with. The law was to never forget about Hiruzen, and the sacrifice he made to protect Konoha. Konohamaru then saw Tsunade's Strength when she was confindent to make sure that Rock Lee can live through his operation. Then accept her as the Third, and Fourth's successor. Including that he was the grandson of the third hokage, and called him self Konohamaru of Konohagakure, which shocked Naruto as Konohamaru started to run off being happy.

Sasuke Retrieval arc

Konohamaru made an appearance at the end  of the arc. He and the rest of the Ninja Academy students went to see Gaara,Temari and Kankuro leave to go back to their village. Konohaamru tells them that he is going to master the Shuriken technique by the time they come back.

When a grown-up Sasuke and Boruto were sent back in time to shortly after Sasuke's defection. There, the two time-travelers pretended to be traveling performers and were put under watch by Naruto. During which, Konohamaru met up with Naruto to compare the improvements to their respective Sexy Techniques. Boruto, being amazed at how silly his future sensei was, openly voiced it, making Konohamaru annoyed. Konohamaru asked Boruto to show his Sexy Technique before Sakura came and punched Naruto for that. However Konohamaru insulted her, and before she could react, he runs away.

Days later, Konohamaru and his genin team-mates watched from the bushes as Boruto, Jiraiya, and Naruto fight Urashiki, amazed when Naruto managed to knock out the foe with his Rasengan.

After seeing that Urashiki is too strong to handle, Konohamaru decides to go notify the village. When no one believes him he runs into Team Asuma and Team Kurenai while telling them that Naruto is in danger. However, Urashiki was already defeated by Naruto and the others. They then helped bring the injured to the hospital.

Later, after Sasuke and Boruto completed their mission to defeat Urashiki, Sasuke used his Sharingan to erase Konohamaru and everyone else's memories of the events in order to protect the timeline.

Pre-Shippuuden Filler arc

Konohamaru made an appearance when Naruto was tasked to teach Ninja Academy kids how to surivie in the real world. This task was also a race to see which group can reach a mountain in order to win a prize. The mission failed because their was a huge storm, but Naruto's group went on with the mission anyway. The group were trap by a huge boulder, and Konohamaru's group used their ninja skills to help Naruto escape. Iruka and Shikamaru came after Konohamaru, Moegi and Udon rescue Naruto. Naruto didn't have any words to explain to her, but Konohamaru stands up for Naruto in front of Tsunade. Which freaks Naruto out shockly, and he run out of the building while being chased by Tsunade.

Two years after Naruto left the village to train with Jiraiya, Konohagakure decided to host an early Chunin Exam alongside Sunagakure. While Konohamaru and his friends began fantasizing about becoming chunin themselves, Nara Shikamaru quickly reminded them that they hadn't even become genin yet. When Konohamaru was upset to learn that Naruto wasn't returning for the exams, which also meant he would miss out on his opportunity to became a chunin again. Konohamaru tried to enter for Naruto, disguising himself as a taller 12 year old Naruto. However, Hyuga Neji quickly saw through this with his Byakugan in which he exposed Konohamaru in front of Tenten and Rock Lee. Konohamaru apologized and explained his reasons, to which Neji insisted that they shouldn't worry as Naruto, who aims to become Hokage, will come back when he is ready. Konohamaru accepted this answer and decided to patiently wait for Naruto to return.

Naruto Shippuuden (Part II)

Kazekage Rescue arc

After the timeskip, the Konohamaru Corps had become a genin team under Ebisu. In the anime, Konohamaru and his team were given the same mission as Naruto's team when they had first become genin (the runaway cat). Konohamaru stated that he would become the Seventh Hokage, and that Naruto would be the Sixth. Tsunade described Konohamaru as the second Naruto. Konohamaru's scarf is even longer post-timeskip, stretching at least several feet beyond his neck. He then went to clean up Naruto's apartment for him. When Naruto returned after his two and a half years of training, he introduced himself by showing off his new and improved Sexy Technique, only to be told by Naruto that they were no longer children and should not use such techniques, only to reveal that he had improved it himself, and was almost about to use it when he was smacked around by Sakura, in turn scaring Konohamaru and his friends.

After that he and Naruto went back to Naruto's apartment. With the boy putting his old jacket into one of the drawers for safe keeping. After that, Naruto is shown to begin teaching Konohamaru the Rasengan, who's imagining that he's being taught an advanced version of the Sexy Technique. Naruto then impresses Konohamaru by showing him the Rasengan first-hand and gives him a water balloon, telling him to practice rotation. He then tells Konohamaru that he has to meet Kakashi at the training field for his rematch of the Bell Test.

Soon after that, Gaara is kidnapped by the Akatsuki and Naruto leaves to help him. In the meantime, Konohamaru, not comprehending the rotation aspect of the technique, asks Kiba, Choji and Hinata to help him out, but to no avail. Deciding to heat-up the sexiness of his Sexy Technique, Team Ebisu goes to Ebisu for some help, thinking that it would help Konohamaru learn the Rasengan more quickly. Taking a few magazines from his sensei, the team takes their leave. Later, using the Transformation Technique to transform into a girl spinning a hula-hoop, Konohamaru, with enough practice, pops the water balloon using chakra and shows it to Naruto, who tells him that he doesn't need the Sexy Technique to learn the Rasengan, and gives him a rubber ball by telling him to practice power. Having no idea how to do it, Konohamaru, alongside Moegi and Udon, go ask Ebisu for help again. Meeting him in the park, alongside Iruka, all three transform into sexy girls and asks which one, in his opinion, is the most attractive. Ebisu then gives some advice to Konohamaru, which inspires him to use his Sexy Technique to transform into a girl, hiding her breasts and then revealing them, sending Ebisu flying with a bloody nose, in a comedic fashion. Soon after that, Konohamaru begins training again, determined to learn the technique.

While being called for a mission with his team, he was excited when Tsunade mistakenly said that they were going on a S-rank mission. But became angry when Ebisu said it was a misunderstanding.

Sasuke and Sai arc

When Konohamaru asks Naruto to help him with the second step of the Rasengan. He tells Konohamaru that he is going on a mission that might lead him to Sasuke.

Twelve Guardians arc

Konohamaru and his team showed Team Kakashi, how much they improved on their D rank mission. In this case catching missing cats. Konohamaru reveals to Naruto that Asuma is Hiruzen's son, and Konohamaru's Uncle. He tells everyone good bye before heading off on his next mission.

Hidan and Kakuzu arc

Konohamaru uses his Sexy Technique to pop the rubber ball, given to him by Naruto. The boy then decides to visit Naruto and show his accomplishment, learning that he has been practicing Wind Release. Konohamaru then shows him that now he can burst the rubber ball, with Yamato and Kakashi flustered by how he does it, using the Sexy Technique.

Proud of Konohamaru, Naruto creates a shadow clone and tells him to do this next, only for the boy to reply that he can't. Konohamaru then issues a challenge to Naruto, saying that he will learn the Shadow Clone Technique before Naruto can complete his current step in Wind Release training. After a few failed attempts at the technique, Konohamaru collapses, with Moegi and Udon going to Sakura for some food pills, which she has been giving to Naruto for training.

After a few days, Naruto completes his training and Konohamaru loses the challenge. Later, Kotetsu and Izumo inform Konohamaru and Naruto about the death of Asuma.

Konohamaru was seen at his uncle Asuma's funeral, crying. He then notes that Naruto always makes up his mind compare to him. After Asuma's funeral, Konohamaru decided not to train but he was cheered up by Udon and Moegi when they informed him that Naruto went to fight Asuma's murder. While Naruto fought Kakuzu, Konohamaru managed to learn the Shadow Clone Technique. After Kakuzu and Hidan's defeat, Konohamaru then begins the final step of the training, with both him and Naruto forming the Rasengan while Tsunade and Shizune observing them.

Later he demonstrated that he had been able to combine the Shadow Clone Technique with the Sexy Technique. Showing that he created the Sexy: Girl on Girl Technique by having him and the clone take on the forms of two naked women engaged in a suggestive position, which got a perverted reaction from Naruto. After using the technique he was hit by Sakura in the manga. But in the anime, Sakura was about to hit him, but Moegi slapped him first.

After being told his technique was useless, aside from its perverted use, Konohamaru used Sexy: Boy on Boy Technique to transform into two naked males who resembled Uchiha Sasuke and Sai, showing that Sakura was a closet pervert, and showing that the technique could in fact be used as a distraction, as it had been developed for both males and females (this part was seen in the manga but not shown in the anime).

Three Tails arc

Konohamaru wanted to see Naruto train, and helped Naruto get more snacks for Gamakichi & Gamatasu.

Invasion of Pain arc

After leaving for Mount Myōboku to learn Senjutsu, Naruto asks Konohamaru to take care of his treasure - which is his old orange jacket. During Pain's invasion on Konoha, Konohamaru was patrolling around the village in order to assure that the villagers were evacuated safely, meeting up with his team-mates for status reports. While sneaking around corners, gasping for breath but looking uninjured, he witnessed the Naraka Path of Pain judging two Konoha shinobi, and killing the one that had lied to him before draining the energy of the other one, although he didn't understand the technique at the time. Before he could manage to escape from the scene, however, he was spotted by Pain. Fortunately, his sensei, Ebisu, jumped in, giving Konohamaru a chance to escape.

However, Ebisu was easily defeated, but, before being killed, he was saved by some kunai thrown by Konohamaru. The Naraka Path charged at him while Konohamaru braced himself and began performing hand seals. Konohamaru was caught by the Naraka Path, and witnessed his technique, thus understanding it. At that moment, the Konohamaru in the Naraka Path's grasp disappeared, revealing that it had been a shadow clone. Having successfully distracted his enemy, the real Konohamaru and another shadow clone struck the Naraka Path from behind with a Rasengan, scoring a full-impact hit that slammed the Naraka Path through a wall. However, the path retreated before their battle could progress further.

Later, he is seen celebrating Naruto's return with the rest of the village. Konohamaru then brings Naruto to the evacuation shelter. He shows Naruto that, despite the village's explosion, he managed to save Naruto's old jacket, by storing it in the village's valuables storage in the evacuation shelter.

Konoha History arc

Konohamaru, Udon and Moegi ask to interview Hyuga Neji about Naruto, for a report they're doing for Ninja Academy students, who want to know more about Naruto. Neji hesitates, but agrees to talk with them. He tells them about what happened after he lost his fight to Naruto in the chūnin exams. After Hiashi revealed him the circumstances of Hizashi<'s death, Tenten spoke with Neji. They're interrupted by the invasion, with fights breaking out throughout Konoha. Neji finds his grandfather, a Hyūga clan elder, defeated. He learns that two Kumo spectators took the invasion as a chance and kidnapped Hinata to take her Byakugan. The elder urges him to rescue Hinata no matter what. They find Kiba and Akamaru. Then set out to rescue Hinata.

On the way, they run into a trap, but Tenten stays behind to take care of it and lets the others go ahead. They close in on the two Kumo-nin, who notice that the trap has been triggered, and begin to leave. Hinata, having awakened, strikes one of her captors. Kiba charges in. Smoke bombs explode and he leaves with Hinata. One of the captors tries to attack Kiba, who strikes back with a Gentle Fist manoeuvre, defeating the Kumo-nin. Neji disguised himself as Kiba and fled the smoke bomb site, leaving Kiba and the real Hinata behind. The remaining kidnapper begins fighting using long range earth release techniques, and almost defeats Neji, but Hiashi appears and defeats him when he tries to escape. Neji asks why Hiashi would leave Konoha during the invasion, learning that Hiashi cares about his daughter, and that Hiashi sees Neji as a memento from his younger brother, Hizashi.

Konohamaru complains that the story had nothing to do with Naruto, and Neji tells him that Naruto was the most important thing about the story. Without him, it might not even have happened. He remembers how Hinata apologised for the trouble she caused Neji, but he told her that he did it because he wanted to, his battle with Naruto have changed him.

Five Kage Summit arc

When Naruto, Kakashi, and Yamato wanted to leave Konoha, Naruto tasked Konohamaru with dealing with the Foundation members watching them. Standing facing each other, both of them performed the Sexy Technique, which was amplified by a genjutsu made by Kakashi's Sharingan.

Konohamaru, however, complained that Naruto's was more sexy, and lamented that he was getting further behind him, something he shouldn't be doing since they were rivals. Naruto, however, complimented him on managing to use the Rasengan, having heard about how he had used it on Pain. He patted his head and said that he too was a hero. As he took off, Naruto praised Konohamaru for learning faster than he himself had, and promised Konohamaru that he will teach him how to make a bigger one next time. In this case the Giant Rasengan, and Konohamaru shouts "Yeah" while he see's Naruto leave. Which put a smile on Kakashi's face.

In the anime, after the Five Kage Summit, Konohamaru was seen working on the "Konoha Hero Newspaper" with Moegi, wondering where Naruto was for their interview. When Naruto returns to the village, he says they will have to interview him next time. As Naruto passes him, Konohamaru realises there is something different about Naruto.

Konohamaru, wanting something more important to do leaves with his team ranting. Frustrated after seeing Temari who was there to deliver a message from Suna as well as check on the progress of the village after Pain's invasion. Konohamaru later challenges Temari while she is on her way home. The two have an intense spar with Konohamaru being unable to land an attack on Temari. After hearing Moegi's story, Konohamaru realises that the 'King' he wanted to protect were the civilians of the village who were unable to defend themselves. Shikamaru smiles at him and Temari compliments him for mastering such a high-level technique and then Team Ebisu for being such promising young shinobi, and then leaves. Kpnohamaru then Shikaru he's dream of becoming Hokage. Shikamaru tells Tsunade of Konoharu's dream, and it shocks her that he shares the same dream as Naruto, and her late little brother Nawaki. Boruto Naruto Next Generations (Anime)

15 years later after the Fourth Shinobi World War ended, and now a full-fledged jonin. In the following years, Konohamaru continued to stay close to Naruto, gaining a similar relationship with the hero's family as his children viewed Konohamaru as a big brother. At some point, he entered into a blood contract with toads, growing close to Gamagoro. Konohamaru, attended Naruto's inauguration as the new Seventh Hokage. When Naruto failed to show up for the ceremony (having been knocked out by his daughter's Gentle Fist), it was decided by Shikamaru to have Konohamaru fill in, disguised as Naruto. However when Konohamaru transformed into Naruto by waving to the audience, he had a hard time suppressing his catchphrase.

In the anime, Konohamaru later becomes a teacher at the Ninja Academy. On the day of the entrance ceremony at the Ninja Academy, Konohamaru subdues Boruto after he damages the Hokage Monument, and reminds him from today to address him as sensei. Later while teaching the students about summoning alongside Shino, Konohamaru demonstrated the art by summoning Gamagoro. His performance gained great popularity with several of the students. After another argument began between the various students, Shino voiced his dismay at the students' continued bickering, Konohamaru noted that Shino's own fellow students had a similar squabbling back in the day, Konohamaru also noted that such drive helps one mature. This inspired Shino to organize a racing competition against the various students. As the contest began heat up, Boruto tried to summon a creature to aid him, unexpectedly summoning some kind of snake creature. As Boruto was too inexperienced, the creature began to rampage, attacking everyone, forcing Konohamaru to intervene and stop it with his Rasengan. Afterwards, Konohamaru began to wonder how Boruto was able to summon such a creature.

While talking to Shino and Moegi, Konohamaru gets excited when Moegi thinks Boruto will have potential to become a ninja. Konohoamaru thinks training Boruto and looking after him is an honor because Naruto ask them to. But he is shock when Moegi hears him talking about Naruto to much as a drag.

Sometime later, Konohamaru looks upon the Hokage Monument and criticizes Uzumaki Boruto's handiwork and about disturbing the Hokage on this important day. Iruka however told him that Boruto is merely acting out to get his father's attention. Konohamaru responded back to Iruka that just like Naruto, his former Ninja Academy sensei is too soft as well. Once Naruto and Boruto came to him and Iruka, Konohamaru scolded Boruto for the prank, to which Boruto didn't care which annoyed Konohamaru.

As the class passed the written exams and advanced to the final test, the practical exams, they were brought to the training fields. There, Konohamaru joined Anko and Shino as proctors for the exam, where they would fight the students for 24 hours to evaluate their respective performances. To make things fairer for the students, the teachers each wore special markers on their chest that if hit would eliminate said teacher from the exam. The head proctor however turned out to be Kakashi. Employing his infamous bell test method, he told the students that only the student who gets the bell from him would pass the test.

As the test began, Konohamaru and the other teachers swiftly began subduing various students and capturing them. By nightfall, the proctors began to wonder if their students would figure out the true nature behind the test. Soon afterwards, the remaining students, following a plan by Boruto, were able to free the captured students. Then facing off against the teachers once more, Konohamaru was tricked by Boruto and Sarada into thinking they were the other, letting Sarada capture him in a genjutsu to throw off his perception, letting them strike the marker to defeat him. By the end of the test, Kakashi chose to pass all the students as while none of them got the bell, they learned the true lesson of the test; loyalty and team-work.

For Team 7's first mission, they were assigned a D-rank to aid the Green Banks Village who were being attacked by bandits for their crops. Upon arriving, they learned that the only way for normal people to enter the village was by a great retracting bridge. They also learned that the previous village leader, who oversaw the bridge's construction, passed away recently, leaving his daughter Kiri to inherit the position. Kiri, while uncertain about trusting in such young ninja, revealed that she withheld the full nature of the mission when she requested it. As she revealed that the attackers were actually trained ninja, which made Konohamaru concerned as this would make the mission at least B-rank in danger.

While Konohamaru considered whether or not to continue the mission despite the deception, the village was attacked, prompting Boruto rushed off. Boruto was quickly pressured by the older ninja, but was saved by Konohamaru, as the foe quickly retreated after realizing that he was a Konoha-nin. As Konohamaru realised that there was more being hidden, he confronted Kiri. She confessed that the enemy ninja were after the deed to the bridge, which was the main source of income for the village. Later that night, as another villager was attacked, Team 7 went into action, only to find that several of the villagers were being controlled by genjutsu. They managed to harmlessly subdue the villagers, but Kiri was abducted.

Afterwards, Team 7 met with the enemy shinobi to exchange the deed for Kiri. The enemies however intended to kill everyone. Konohamaru dealt with Hidari while Mitsuki and the others retreated with Kiri. While initially subdued by his opponent, Konohamaru escaped with his Rasengan. Once showing his power by destroying a rock surface, Hidari was overwhelmed in fear and fainted. With this and the genin defeated the other enemy, Ashimaru, the mission was completed.

Konohamaru later sent his team to deal with a bank robber, Haguruma. After they convinced the man to turn himself in, it was learned Hagurama was manipulated into doing this, as it was a diversion for the Byakuya Gang to steal jewels from a high-level vault.

Later, the villagers supporting the Byakuya Gang began acting out against companies accused of corrupt actions. Konohamaru joined his fellow ninja in working to pacify the situation. Ultimately, it was discovered that several of the protestors were under genjutsu. Konohamaru helped in dispelling the genjutsu. This along with Naruto's speech was able to peacefully end the riots.

Konohamaru is shown when his team gets a mission. But he scolds Boruto when the latter wants to get the mission that Team Udon has. Before leaving Konohamaru speaks to Udon for old times sake.

While he delivers a mission report to Shikamaru, who is dealing with Naruto's paperwork while Naruto is away meeting with the daimyō. Konohamaru notices papers regarding the upcoming Chunin Exams, and Shikamaru tells him to think about his genin. Konohamaru discusses the subject with Moegi, Udon, and Shino, pointing out Shino's students, who have caused their share of trouble, will be participating.

At nighttime while eating, Konohamaru says he is unsure if he'll recommend Boruto to take the exam. Because he is worry that Boruto has relied too much on luck so far, and that failure in the exam will crush him. However Konohamaru gets drunk with Hanabi. After seeing that she favors Boruto just like him.

Team 7 was later assigned to follow a trail of bandits who stole from the Thunder Train. When they arrived at the mines where they thieves were last seen, they learned that one of the thieves was arrested after he had come out completely traumatised, claiming that "the white one" killed his allies. This concerned Konohamaru, wondering if it could be a White Zetsu from the Fourth Shinobi World War. Team 7 decided to investigate more carefully. Inside, they found the three other thieves brutally killed, and soon after met the culprit, a mutated White Zetsu.

When Naruto revealed to the others that Mitsuki was in fact Orochimaru's son, much outrage followed from learning that Naruto would permit an offspring of the man who killed the Third Hokage live in Konohagakure, let alone keep it a secret. Naruto rationalised this on the grounds that Orochimaru's conduct as changed from before and that his aid in investigating the Ōtsutsuki. Despite this, noting the unpredictable nature of Orochimaru, the meeting ended with deeming the Oto-born boy as a threat.

Later, Konohamaru decided to confront Naruto about how he hid from Konohamaru the truth that Mitsuki is the son of the man who killed Konohamaru's beloved grandfather. Naruto insisted that he wanted Konohamaru to first get know Mitsuki before learning the truth on the grounds that Mitsuki himself had no part in the murder of the Third Hokage. This left Konohamaru conflicted, as he indeed came to care very much for Mitsuki as his student. Regardless, he insisted on joining the effort to track down and retrieve Mitsuki. His request however was denied as he was too emotional on the matter.

Later, still conflicted on how to deal with Mitsuki, Mirai approached him, who also learned the truth about Mitsuki and felt a similar nature about the loss of their grandfather. Later, when it was learned that extreme punishment may come Mitsuki's way for his desertion, Konohamaru insisted that he be the one to bring Mitsuki back. While there was some concern about Konohamaru being given this job, Naruto agreed. While there was some concern about Konohamaru being given this job, Naruto agreed. In addition, because they had no approval from the Tsuchikage to enter Iwagakure, Konohamaru was required to remain unseen and hide all ties from Konohagakure, donning his old ANBU outfit before setting out. Upon arriving in Iwagakure, he found Akatsuchi being attacked by the Akuta, and saved him. As Konohamaru ventured deeper into the village, he found that a certain area was heavily guarded by the Akuta, concluding that the enemy base must be near.

His efforts eventually found a secret underground laboratory, shocked at the work that was being conducted. He was then approached by Mitsuki.

While considering to attack his student, Konohamaru instead unmasked himself and confronted Mitsuki on his actions. The boy plainly said he was doing what he believed was right to do and promised to answer for his actions. Trusting his Mitsuki, Konohamaru decided to watch as Mitsuki sabotaged the base with explosives. Afterwards, Konohamaru freed the Fourth Tsuchikage, letting her go to save her village.

Ultimately, the Fabrications were defeated by the combined effort of Konohamaru's students and Ōnoki, who passed away from the effort. As the Hokage and an escort arrived to help, Konohamaru promised to give a full report on the events. He confronted Mitsuki, surprising the boy when he hug him and said he was happy to have Mitsuki back. Upon returning to Konohagakure, Konohamaru and Sai debriefed Mitsuki on his actions. Konohamaru requested to take responsibility over their actions to reinstate his team's individual shinobi status. While reluctant to do so Kurotsuchi's gratitude persuaded Naruto to reinstate Konohamaru's students, much to his joy.

Some time later, Team 7 and Team 15, minus Hanabi who had another assignment, were assigned to investigate the random attacks on village from its nearby wildlife. They were assigned also to work with Tosaka, an ornithologist. Upon arriving, the group was attacked by strange-looking birds. At the village, they learned that many people attacked by the mutated birds quickly became sick and were covered in Cursed Marks. When learning of Jūgo being in the area, Konohamaru speculated that Orochimaru was involved in this. He then split the team up to investigate, pairing himself with Mitsuki and warning everyone to not engage the man alone.

Konohamaru and Mitsuki then found the rampaging Jūgo attacking Boruto and Sarada. The jōnin-sensei held his own against Jūgo until he managed drain Konohamaru severely of his chakra. Konohamaru blasted Jūgo away with his Big Ball Rasengan and snapping him out of his blood-lust. The entire Konoha team soon approached the man. When noticing the medical injections he had, another mutated bird then attack. Before Boruto could counter, Jūgo stepped in and captured the bird, draining it of its Cursed Seal before noting his dislike of Boruto for having previously killed an infected bird. Later, Tosaka concluded from a blood test that the outbreak and Jūgo were not related. With Konohamaru too weak to join the field, he instructed Team 15 to report to the village while Team 7 observe Jūgo from afar.

Later, Konohamaru was saved by Mitsuki, who removed him in time to avoid an assassination attempt by the Land of Rivers' research team head. After recovering somewhat, Konohamaru decided for him and Mitsuki to destroy the enemies' boat near the river, making sure they could not escape.

Once succeeding, Konohamaru and Mitsuki found a cure to the cured seal and brought it back to the lake with the remaining infected birds. Konohamaru gave the cure to Suigetsu Hōzuki, who drank the cure to take on its properties and morphed into it to rain down the cure on all the infected birds. With it learned that Tosaka was the mastermind behind the outbreak, Konohamaru was eager to bring him back to Konoha to answer for his crimes, only to learn that Jūgo and his friends had slipped away with Tosaka as their hostage.

In the anime, while Konohamaru was talking with Boruto in the village about prioritising their time as ninja, they saw a woman running away from several men. Konohamaru quickly intervened and carried her away from the pursuers. Afterwards, she introduced herself as Yoimura Remon and explained that she was sightseeing the village when she randomly bumped into those men. On Boruto's idea, they decided to show Remon the sights, including the Hokage Monument and why it was so important to Konohamaru. During the tour, Konohamaru and Remon began developing an attraction for each other. Later, it was revealed that Remon was a noblewoman who was dodging her bodyguards and had the responsibility to return. The following day, after Sarada and Chōchō pointed out Konohamaru's growing feelings, Boruto suggested that he and his sensei return Remon's borrowed handkerchief as an excuse to see her again. Upon arriving at her mansion, they were surprised to see Remon preparing for a ceremony. Even more, they were shocked to see how uncharacteristically cold she was to them suddenly, by demanding to never see them again.

They were then approached by Akitsuki Kankitsu, Remon's fiancé. He apologized for Remon's rudeness but firmly asked for the Konoha-nin to leave. On the way back Konohagakura, they found a little girl from Remon's village who despite being close to it, forgot how to get home. The two brought her back to the village and notice how awkward the villagers were acting about the memory loss. Feeling that something was wrong, Konohamaru and Boruto later snuck back into Remon's home to talk with her. She revealed that village was plagued by an evil spirit called Soma that steals memories. She explained that her ancestor Kuen sealed away the spirit, but not before being cursed by the spirit, which is passed on from generation to generation. The seal grows weaker every year after 100 years, a special marriage ritual is required by blood descendants of Kuen to restore the seal. This time, it must be Remon and Kankitsu. Accepting that this was Remon's choice, Konohamaru took Boruto back to the village. Before they could leave, they were met with Remon's caretaker Asaki. She revealed that Kankitsu has quite recently become very cold compared to before and regularly wondering off late at night. She asked them to investigate. Konohamaru accepted and ultimately found nothing unusual.

When waiting for Asaki to show up for report, only to no avail, Konohamaru sent to Boruto to look for her while he continued investigate Kankitsu. When following him to the sacred shrine housing Sōma, Konohamaru was discovered by the security. He was forced to leave the village and a complaint was filed against him, prompting the Hokage to place him under house arrest. Konohamaru began digging through various scrolls for important information. Later, he was approached by Boruto, who revealed that it was Kankitsu who was stealing people's memories. Despite the house arrest, Konohamaru joined Boruto in settling the matters.

Upon returning to the village, they arrived too late, as Kankitsu, who was actually possessed by Sōma, destroyed the seal to free the demon. Konohamaru managed to temporarily trap Sōma while Remon and Kankitsu were saved. After Kankitsu awoke, horrified at what he did, Remon explained that she could use the same seal Kuen used long ago, but would cost Remon her memories just as it did Kuen. As the Konoha-nin lured out Sōma, Remon used her seal. Reluctantly, Konohamaru severed the emerging horns from Remon, completing the seal to permanently defeat Sōma. Later, when Remon awoke, she indeed forgot her entire identity. Konohamaru decided to leave Remon in Kankitsu care, deciding he would be a hinderence to any chance of her recovering her memories. While Boruto insisted that he should tell Remon how he feels about her, he insisted that some things in life don't need to be said with actual words.

In the anime, when Boruto learned that he was the only genin that was put off of the mission to hunt Urashiki due to Urashiki's previous vendetta against Boruto, he was furious. Konohamaru accompanied Boruto to make sure he wouldn't act out too much when talking to the Hokage about this.

After Sasuke and Boruto returned to their proper time, they were met with adult-Konohamaru, who they happily reported that Urashiki was defeated.

Konohamaru provides his team with instructions through the earphones during their mission to capture Mujina Bandits. Although Boruto eventually ruins the plan of tracking them to their boss, Konohamaru still considers the mission a success after arriving at the scene. Later, Konohamaru asks Metal Lee to call Boruto to the Hokage building, where he introduces Madoka Tento. The son of the Fire Daimyo, to Boruto and entrusts the latter with the mission of protecting him during his visit to Konohagakure. Boruto is dissatisfied with the task and tries to object, but Konohamaru states that the Daimyo personally picked up Boruto for this mission. Also, he privately tells Boruto that he should learn about such things as another side of the ninja career. Three days later after Boruto's bodyguard mission was finished, Konohamaru presented his entire team with their first B-rank mission. While confident they were ready, Konohamaru warned them that their status as ninja would fall if they failed their first high-level mission and as punishment would have to thoroughly clean up his dirty office.

On the day of the mission, Konohamaru was shocked to see that his entire team was a no-show. He later learned that they instead worked together to save the daimyo's son who was kidnapped by the Mujin Bandits. While applaud his students for simultaneously saving Tento and capturing the Mujin Bandits, he insisted that they would still have to be punished for abandoning their official mission.

In the anime, as Konohamaru's team was assigned to find Anato, a missing researched in the Land of Valleys, Konohamaru was overjoyed to see that they would be working alongside Mugino. After meeting the man's wife and learning about the village's large medical company, Mitsuki was able to sneak the last known location of Anato's team. There, they were intercepted by Victor, the company's president, and his guards. As he was also looking for Anato's team, and found many of them were dead, it was decided to join efforts. They soon found a cave. Inside, the found Anato, whose body was altered into a malleable state and mindlessly attacked them.

After the team failed to restrain Anato, Victor and his crew then appeared and subdued him with a relentless barrage of Lightning Release. Victor promised they would return Anato to the village for treatment. With their mission technically completed, Konohamaru reluctantly decided the team should to return to the Konohagakure. Along the way, Mitsuki became ill and his body was taking on the same properties as Anato. Mugino brought them to Yubina, a former medical-nin. After she treated Mitsuki, Yubina determined that during the fight with Anato, Mitsuki was infected by some of the First Hokage's cellular structure. Yubina also revealed that other cases like this have shown up, and rumors that the black market was harvesting the late Hokage's cells for sale. It was decided that while Mitsuki would stay behind to recover, the rest would go the source in the Land of Silence.

There, they learned that a worker from Victor's company came by weeks ago with the Hashirama Cell before suddenly disappearing. They also heard rumours that a man was in the area with connections to the Hashirama Cell. It turned out to be missing-nin named Kirisaki with unique medical ninjutsu prowess. After Boruto lured him away, they were able to detain him. They learned that he was expecting to meet someone about the Hashirama Cell the following day. They decided for Konohamaru to impersonate Kirisaki, joined by Boruto posing as an assistant. Once meeting the contact, the man was revealed to be infected by the Hashirama cell as a test to see "Kirisaki's" skill.

After the man collapsed Konohamaru reluctantly injected the antibodies Yubina acquired from Mitsuki to heal the man. Fooled, the man revealed to be a butler of Lady Sakuya. She desired to use the Hashirama Cell on herself under the misguided delusion that it would let her live forever and even more, restore her youth and former beauty. At the castle, Boruto was suddenly detained, where the butler wished to see the process firsthand of how "Kirisaki" would stabilise the Harshirama Cell using Boruto. Konohamaru was able to stall by asking for the while Boruto slipped away to retrieve the target as it was a shadow clone that was detained. Soon after, an alarm was sounded that Sakuya was attacked. Konohama dropped his disguise and found Boruto, who explained that other shinobi killed Sakuya and stole the Hashirama Cell, framing them for the act.

Everyone in the city began hunting them down, in hopes of getting a reward for their capture. As the entire team was cornered, they were aided by a young boy named Katara. He led them through an underground network that the children of the city used for their own society. At the base, the Konoha-nin met up with Mitsuki. It was revealed after he fully recovered and his antibodies helped cure the sick girl, she helped Mitsuki sneak into the city. The children's network were able to quickly find the true killers. Once outside the country's borders, Mugino and Konohamaru split up from the genin to find their targets.

Quickly however, they were alerted by an attack on the genin and returned. The attackers were revealed to be Omoi and his team, sent by the Fifth Raikage to retrieve the Hashirama Cell for Konohagakure. After Omoi recognised Konohmaru, the situation was explained and the group worked together to hunt down the true thieves, who were deduced to be shinobi from the Land of Haze. Along the way, they were intercepted by Deepa, who was also looking for the Hashirama Cell. Omoi's team decided to face the new threat while the Konoha-nin moved on. Soon after, Mugino and his team was intercepted by one of the thieves, determined to complete his mission of delivering the Hashirama Cell to his land at all cost.

He unleashed a self-sacrificing technique to ensnare the Konoha-nin in a barrier and summon a destructive demon. Konohamaru and Mugino attempted to destroy the barrier, but were quickly stopped by the demon. As Mugino was able to restrain the demon, Konohamaru and Boruto destroyed the demon with their respective Rasengan. After Mugino recovered some time later, the team resumed tracking the Haze-nin.

Upon catching up with the remaining foes, the Konoha-nin were tricked and caught by Hiruga's self-sacrificing technique that produced a restraining sludge. As it became clear that the technique would drag all near him underground, Omoi arrived. Battered, he revealed that Deepa killed his allies and was on his way to the Land of Haze to get the Hashirama Cell. Worrying for his remaining brother, Hiruga cancelled his technique and rushed off. While Omoi could not join his allies, he warned them that Deepa was seemingly impervious to all forms of attack.

Upon catching up to Hiruga's older brother, Asaka, it took some convincing that Hiruga was truly him and that there was a new threat. Before a truce could be agreed upon, Deepa arrived and swiftly struck down the remaining quadruplets. Boruto was furious and attacked the man, only for his kunai to harmlessly bounce off Deepa's body. The man explained that he is able to manipulate all the carbon is around him, including in his own body to become invulnerable. Victor arrived, and revealed to be allied with Deepa. Victor split up the jōnin from the genin in the team, where Konohamaru and Mugino faced Victor. Victor proved deceptively capable, manifesting a separate set of powerful arms that proved able to battle back the Konoha-nin. Soon, Victor noticed that Deepa's battle was causing an unusual amount of damage to the area and decided to investigate, sparing Konohamaru and Mugino.

Konohamaru and Mugino then found out from Yubina that the genin found their way back to her for after being critically injured. Once gathering the genin, Konohamaru and Mugino brought the genin back to Konohagakure, which was better equipped to treat them. As the genin recovered, Konohamaru was angry at himself or not being a better teacher and captain for his students. Naruto did not blame Konohamaru for this event. After he reported their findings on the mission, it was decided to get permission from the Land of Sound to investigate Victor's company. Three days later, it was approved for Konohamaru and Mugino to stealthily investigate. They were also relieved to hear Boruto and Sarada making the mature decision to leave the mission to them while the genin strived to train and grow stronger.

Days later, Konohamaru and Mugino arrived at Victor's company. They exchanged pleasantries with Victor, but tensions rose when the conversation turned to the Hashirama Cell. Victor pointed out that they couldn't force the issue without escalating things into a diplomatic incident, and had them escorted out. Later, Konohamaru and Mugino infiltrated the company to continue their investigation.

As they sneak in deeper, they soon saw that several new patients were brought to a restricted area, never to come out. To Konohamaru's surprise, he saw a doctor from Iwagakure that supposedly died during the Fabrication Uprising. While trying to sneak in further, the Konoha-nin were cut off by a security system that blocked their entrance into the secret lab.

As they continued looking for an opening, they witnessed Deepa's arrival, whose recent mission was a failure. Victor noted that he would soon have to attend to an inspection of his company with the Land of Valleys' damiyō, and that his experiment was nearing the final stage. Mugino and Konohamaru were concerned by this. They decided to take advantage of the inspection for their next move.

Before the daimyō and his retinue arrived at Victor's company, Konohamaru and Mugino knocked out two of his guards and transformed into them. Upon arriving at the company they were brought into the central laboratory, where they underwent sterilisation. Victor presented the daimyō with several people safely in stasis as they were be treated of various incurable illnesses. Having already seen through the truth, Konohamaru and Mugino released the daimyō from the genjutsu Victor had administered through the "sterilising". The people in stasis were in fact being used as nourishment for Victor's true project. Konohamaru and Mugino revealed themselves and explained the situation. While the daimyō was ashamed of his blindness to Victor's deceit, he agreed to let the Konoha-nin act as needed. Victor however activated his experiment, revealing a miniature God Tree that began consuming all targets.

Konohamaru and Mugino worked to protect themselves and the daimyō. As the tree continued to grow and rampage, the daimyō was briefly ensnared with most of his chakra drained. Konohamaru held off the tree long enough for Mugino to get the daimyō away as he was the only credible witness to Victor's crimes. Konohamaru was determined to stop the threat of the God Tree and stayed behind. There, he was by chance met up with Boruto and Sarada, having completed their own mission recently. While not liking the idea of endangering his students, he conceded to needing help. They were then approached by Victor, who revealed to have cultivated this God Tree from fragments of the original God Tree during the Fourth Great War, using the Hashirama Cell for this. As Victor revealed in the production of Chakra Fruit, he ruptured the ground around Boruto and Sarada, sending them below to split them from Konohamaru.

As Konohamaru continued battling the elder, he was amazed by Victor's mastery of all five nature transformations. At the same time, he was furious to hear of Victor's complete disregard for human life, willing to sacrifice countless people to gain power. Konohamaru was soon overwhelmed, only to be saved by the sudden arrival of Orochimaru. The Sannin insisted he cared little about Konohamaru and simply wanted to make Victor pay for stealing the Hashirama Cell from his laboratory. As Orochimaru continued to make sport of Victor, the Inner sought the God Tree's fruit for more power, only to be ensnared by the tree like the other victims. Orochimaru noted that Victor's God Tree was a crude imitation, unable to produce such fruit. Ultimately, the God Tree was destroyed and with the enemies defeated, Orochimaru decided to leave it at that. As Orochimaru noted he informed Naruto about the events, Konohamaru noted to Orochimaru he was happy to see Mitsuki was okay. Orochimaru trusted Konohamaru to take care of Mitsuki from there.

Upon returning to the village, Konohamaru and Mugino reported to Naruto. They revealed what they learned about Victor and his involvement with Kara. He and Konohamaru also noted the existence of "Outers" who apparently worked as spies for Kara. In light of this news and what was discovered after investigating Victor's company, the question of whether or not to close the gates to the village came up.

In the anime, Konohamaru attended the memorial service for the fallen people of the Fourth Shinobi War.

Later on a blimp slipping through the Land of Fire's air defence network undetected and crashing, Konohamaru and Mugino are sent on mission to investigate it. Upon arriving at the blimp on the Land of Fire's border, he discovers that inside contains a container that was recently opened. While unsure what was inside, he has a dreadful feeling about it. While inspecting the container, he found a data unit. After downloading its information, he found Mugino badly injured, looking up to find the assailant, which turned out to be a group of advanced self-moving Puppets. Konohamaru managed to escape with Mugino, as the puppets seemed programmed to only protect the blimp. Later, while tending to Mugino's injuries while in a cave, Konohamaru was found by his students and Katasuke Tōno. While discussing what happened, they were confronted by Ao, who held them at gun-point to question them about what they learned inside the blimp.

Ao then unleashed a barrage of Fire Release Bullets from his gun, making everyone realizing that he a scientific ninja tool. Konohamaru, with help from Katsuke, was able to destroy Ao's gun. As Konohamaru asked if this had anything to do with the organisation Kara, Ao unleashed a hidden weapon from his prosthetic shoulder, blasting Konohamaru. He then attacked Katsuke and stole one of his technique-absorbing gauntlets. After testing it himself on Boruto's Rasengan, Ao concluded that now they had to die to keep the organisation a secret. Mugino then held Ao down long enough to collapse the cave on him and Ao to save his allies. His sacrifice however turned futile as Ao quickly clawed his way out of the rubble, prompting Konohamaru and his team to retreat. As they took shelter, Katsuke admitted to his shame that the enemies' access to advanced ninja tech was because they brainwashed him into giving up his research. As Konohamaru insisted that they had to return the data he found on the blimp to Konohagakure. Boruto however insisted that they had to stop before he continued to abuse the technology that Katasuke gave him.

The team then devised a plan to take advantage of Ao's high usage of ninja tech. To begin their counterattack, Mitsuki, Sarada, and Konohamaru pressured Ao with a barrage of ninjutsu attacks, all of which were quickly absorbed by the gauntlet. Boruto then attacked from Ao's blindside during the assault with his chakra-blade, but the seasoned enemy saw through the attack, quickly blocking with his prosthetic arm, forcing Boruto to drop his weapon. Ao then grabbed the tech weapon and stabbed Boruto in the chest. Boruto however, revealed to be a shadow clone, began the next part of the team's plan, grabbing onto Ao, letting Mitsuki restrict Ao's hand on the activated prototype weapon, which quickly drained Ao of his stamina. Ao managed to break free and faced off against Boruto's Rasengan. He attempted to absorb it, but Boruto revealed to be wearing the other absorbing gauntlet, using it to cancel the two gauntlets' absorbing power long enough to hit Ao with the Rasengan.

As the team surrounded the seemingly defeated foe, Konohamaru noticed a sneak attack from a bunch of Mirror Drones. He blocked the attack on Boruto with his own body, knocking him out. Boruto however was able to outsmart Ao and defeat him. Once Konohamaru came to, he was impressed by his student's growth. The moment was ruined however when Kashin Koji appeared and killed Ao with his Summoning: Boiler Toad. The mysterious man than calmly introduced himself.

After the introduction Konohamaru questioned him about Kara. Refusing to answer, Koji erected pillars around the team to paralyse them. Prepared for such a situation, Konohamaru used the seal on his chest to free himself from the fūinjutsu. Facing Koji alone, Konohamaru attacked him with taijutsu, swiftly followed by attacking him with his Rasengan, leading to Koji creating his own Rasengan to counter Konohamaru's. Questioning who in the world his opponent is, Konohamaru noticed a toad on his hip, which explodes in flames that engulfs him. Yelling out, Boruto subconsciously activated his Kāma, which absorbed all the flames. Having collapsed, Konohamaru questioned what the mark on Boruto was, followed by Koji choosing to retreat.

Departing the scene with Katasuke, they encountered destroyed puppets a fair distance away from the crashed blimp, followed by finding an unconscious boy. As they began to examine the boy, Kawaki, for injuries, they discovered that he had a matching seal to Boruto's on his left palm. As Boruto's seal began to hurt Kawaki, also felt the pain, making him abruptly wake up and destroy the area within his vicinity. Questioning who the team were, Konohamaru identified himself, and asked for information regarding the crash. Refusing to provide information and wanting to be left alone, Boruto revealed to the boy his mark, resulting in Kawaki believing they were pursuers from Kara. As they tried to correct him, Garō made his presence known, announcing his intentions of recovering Kawaki. Kawaki resisted, showing the ability to manipulate his body structure into weapons.

As he watched the fight between Kawaki and Garō, Konohamaru stressed to his team that the new developments would increase their mission to S-rank, urging them to act cautiously. When Kawaki killed Garō with a blast, Konohomaru was protected from it by Boruto, who activated his Kāma, using it to absorb part of the explosion. This convinced Kawaki even more that they were with Kara. After Kawaki fainted from overheating, and Katasuke determined his body to have been modified into a scientific ninja tool, they decided to take him to meet with the Seventh Hokage. In the anime, Kawaki was instead brought back to the research institute by Team 7 while Konohamaru went alone back to the village for a report.

Despite Naruto and Konohamaru trying to ease him, Kawaki immediately tries to escape the hospital room, but is paralysed by Shikamaru, who assures him if they wanted to do anything with him, they'd already have done it.

In the anime, Konohamaru decided to attend to cleaning up Mugino's home, surprised to see how little he kept there. He was also surprised to see Boruto there, who promised Mugino to care for his pet turtle in the man's absence. After as two reminisced about Mugino and how he affected them, it was agreed to let Konohamaru keep Mugino's only two real possessions, his turtle and a framed photo of the Third Hokage with a hand-written acceptance letter from the late Hokage to Mugino. In the anime, Konohamaru joined the Hokage to engage the threat, but was quickly disabled by Jigen's rods. Ultimately, Jigen's attempt to retrieve Kawaki failed, but left Naruto captured by Kara and Sasuke critically injured. After Konohamaru recovered his own injuries, he was put on guard duty of Kawaki. Later in the anime, it was learned that Kara had created a cult that revered the Ōtsutsuki as benevolent gods. Reports also learned that various plagues had been ravaging the lands and just as quickly stopped. Convinced that the cult was involved, Sai and Konohamaru were sent to investigate, also in hopes of finding Kara's Ten-Tails. As they passed themselves off as desperate travelers, they learned how many "chosen" people in the cult would suddenly disappear. Deciding to rattle the false peace there, the Konoha-nin spread news about the cult's leader, Boro, was dead. Tsuzumi, a high figure in the cult, went to contact Boro. The Konoha-nin followed him, where it was learned that the cult was a front designed to use their blind followers as test subjects for Kara. Sai and Konohamaru revealed the truth to the congregation, but most of them refused to believe Boro was evil nor that he was killed. The base was then attacked by Delta, shocking the Konoha-nin as she was destroyed by Naruto. The Inner quickly proceeded to destroy the base. Sai and Konohamaru managed to save a small fraction of the followers. Despite this, they could get no useful information.

In the anime, Konohamaru participated in the coordination efforts lead by Shikamaru when Isshiki's arrival was imminent. He visited Mugino's grave before Isshiki's arrival, and was among the first to engage him in combat. He was quickly defeated, and narrowly saved by Naruto's arrival, who ordered him to continue helping with the civilian evacuation.

In the anime, following Isshiki's defeat, Naruto had a Chūnin Exams set up for Konoha to help boost moral from the recent attack. Konohamaru aided Shikamaru in reorganizing the event, and acted as a proctor during the finals, drawing names for the matches and acting as their referee.

When Sarada expressed concern over Boruto and Mitsuki's absence, he clarified that they wouldn't be disqualified unless they were still absent by the time their names were drawn. During the second match, Konohamaru called the fight for Wasabi after Iwabee became too exhausted from spending too much chakra to make a point and motivate Wasabi. For the third match, Konohamaru drew Sarada and Chōchō, which ended in Sarada's victory.

Konohomaru later disqualified Boruto and Mitsuki as they were late and absent for the fourth match. For the final match, he announced that Tsubaki was going to fight Denki. Following the closing cermony for the newly-promoted chūnin, Konohamaruru was seen chasing after Boruto and Mitsuki for their late arrival.

In the anime during filming for next installment of the Kagemasa franchise, it was decided to include the Seventh Hokage for a tag-team story. As Naruto already scheduled time off for a family vacation, Konohamaru was hired as a stand-in. Quickly, Konohamaru found the movie production lame from its excessive usage of CGI effects. He encouraged the crew to film a more authentic movie with actual live performances. Unfortunately, the producer rejected such footage, wanting to make the film as flashy as possible with CGI, firing the crew. As Konohamaru agrreed to stay on for the sake of the franchise, he later encountered a bank robbery went. Still in costume, Konohamaru rushed to help stop it. After taking down the two of the robber, the third robber took out a powerful paper bomb to level the area. Gongorō Kamakura, in his Kagemasa costume, made a dashing entrance to help distract the robber. Their efforts failed to stop the paper bomb from being set off. Wanting to live up to the name of Hokage someday, Konohamaru used suppressed the explosion with his Rasengan. Ultimately, they entire event was caught on film. Appearing as like an exciting movie scene, it inspired the producer to use the crew's goal of an authentic performance and rehire them. The movie ultimately became Gongorō's biggest success.

In the anime, with his duties to Team 7 now concluded, Konohamaru returned to the academy as a teacher. He attended the welcoming ceremony for the newest students.

Following the defeat of Otsutsuki Isshiki, Team 7 was put on suspension to better watch Boruto for any episode from his Kāma. At the same time, Kawaki joined Team 7 in their training. Konohamaru was amazed at the boy's continued lack of team-work. When Kawaki found basic shinobi drills pointless, he pushed for more extreme combat training. Konohamaru opted to step in, but Naruto convinced him to let things play out. Boruto and Kawaki made a bet with each other on who would dictate their training style, with Boruto ultimately winning in a sparring match. Konohamaru was impressed to see how grown-up Boruto sounded when he reasoned with Kawaki to accept help from his friends saying that Boruto is becoming more like how Naruto was as a kid.

Later, after Code invaded Konoha and captured Amado, forcing the scientist to remove his limiters, it was learned that Amado escaped by convincing Adato switch alligences. This switch only was on the grounds that Ada had a crush on Kawaki and wanted to have a relationship. Konohamaru's team was call for a uunique mission; to housesit Ada and her brother, Daemon. As he and Shikamaru explained the situation, , it was decided that new living arrangements were made, putting Ada and her brother to live with Boruto and Kawaki. This was done to both please Ada's general desires and because Boruto and Kawaki, thanks to their Ōtsutsukimodifications, are the only ones immune to her enchantments over people's self-control. He also decided to have Konohamaru, Sarada, and Mitsuki watch from a far and step in only if things needed to be defused. Finally, he warned them that Ada also has the power to see and hear everything and anywhere, earging them to not make Ada change her mind again about alligences.

Later, as a luxurious house was being prepared for Ada's arrival, Konohamaru revealed it was previously owned but the higher-ups were able to convince them to relinquish it. Soon after, Ada arrived. Upon seeing her, Konohamaru instantly fell to her allure power. As she turned her full attention to him, the lovestruck Konohamaru fainted.

Later, after regaining consciousness, Konohamaru grew concerned when Ada wished to talk with both Sumire and Sarada. The next day, he argued against Mitsuki joining Sarada and Sumire when Ada asked to talk to them, referencing his previous susceptibility to Ada's entrancing, and again when Ada and the girls went out shopping.

Later, Kawaki's desperate desire to protect Naruto led him to seal the Hokage and Hinata in Daikokuten so they wouldn't get in the way of him killing Boruto for housing Momoshiki. Konohamaru and several other Konoha-nin arrived to subdue Kawaki, but only after he damaged Boruto's right eye. As Konohamaru tended to Boruto, Momoshiki emerged again, absorbing Shikamaru's Shadow Imitation Technique to free Kawaki and let him shrink to escape. Soon after, Boruto regained control of his body.

As Konohamaru joined the other Konoha-nin in searching for Kawaki, he noticed a flash appear in the sky.

Sometime following Naruto's reported death and Shikamaru becoming the Eighth Hokage, Konohamaru was appointed the new Hokage's chief aide.

Three years later, Konohamaru listened to yet another appeal of Sarada's to listen to Boruto's side of the story, interjecting that they had Ada's Senrigan testimony of the event. When Code's Claw Grime infiltrated the village and attacked, Shikamaru charged Konohamaru with overseeing evacuation efforts.

In the aftermath, Konohamaru learned that a Claw Grime had consumed Moegi and transformed into a small tree to contain and steal her chakra.
