When Itachi was four, Fugaku decided to take Itachi to see mountains of corpses resulting from the Third Shinobi War. Fugaku hopefully thought it would help his son mature quickly. While he succeeded in his goal, Itachi's maturity took a different route than Fugaku hoped. Also during this time, a dear friend of Fugaku died in battle, allowing him to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan.
In the anime after the war ended, when being questioned by his clan about Hatake Kakashi gaining the Sharingan from Uchiha Obito, Fugaku chose to respect Obito's dying actions and allow Kakashi to keep his gift. When Sarutobi Hiruzen was preparing to step down as Hokage, Fugaku was among the shinobi considered to be chosen as the Fourth Hokage. After Fugaku's wife gave birth to their second son, with the blessing of Hiruzen. Fugaku proudly named the baby Uchiha Sasuke after the Third Hokage's father.
When Namikaze Minato was chosen as the Fourth Hokage, Fugaku was among the shinobi present for the ceremony while being seen atop the Ninja Academy. Before Kurama attacked the village, Mikoto informed Itachi that Fugaku was at a meeting. Once Kurama attacked the village, Fugaku was relieved that Itachi was not hurt. He then told Itachi to go to the evacuation shelter with their clans men. During the attack, Fugaku and his clan were ordered by Danzo to not fight the beast at all. The reason why Danzo gave Fugaku this task was to make sure that the Uchiha clan wouldn't control Kurama with the Sharingan. With Kurama being seal away again, Fugaku attended Minato and Kushina's funeral to honor their sacrifice.
After the deadly attack, the village accused the Uchiha clan of orchestrating the attack. This belief caused a rift between the village and the Uchiha clan. He was angry that the clan was placed at a corner of the village. He then told his higher up clans men about this. Despite this, the villagers still admired Fugaku and the Uchiha's Clan's efforts of maintaining peace. After moving to the corner of the village, Fugaku taught Itachi the Great Fire Ball Technique and was impress that Itachi did the technique on his first try. When Itachi enroll at the Ninja Academy, Fugaku was present at the ceremony. When Fugaku saw Itachi's report card, he was impress with Itachi's grades. Upon learning that Itachi was graduating a head of his class because he learned the Shadow Clone Technique, Fugaku was very happy for him. He was present at Itachi's Ninja Academy graduation ceremony.
When Itachi became a genin, Fugaku spoke with three of his clan members. But when Itachi saw him, Fugaku told his three clan members that they will speak later. While walking in their compound, Fugaku and Itachi talk about how the Uchiha were relocated after Kurama's attack. Itachi points out Fugaku is still the face of the Uchiha since many clan members greet them as they walk, and that he is proud to walk with him. Itachi and Fugaku decide to go get dumplings, but the store is sold out. However they run into Izumi, who has dumplings in a big paper bag.
As Fugaku was feeding the fish in the Uchiha District, he talks to Itachi about the Sharingan since he awoken it at the age of eight. Fugaku tells him how much power and influence the Sharingan holds. Including that he wants Itachi to be aware of that. He also tells him that the higher-ups might want to see him in action. He tells Itachi that the clan is proud of him, and that he is proud of him too. Fugaku then tells him not to be laurels just because he has the Sharingan now. He tells Itachi you have to master the Sharingan and to continue to be diligent. Fugaku tells him that he wouldn't lecture him too much because he is is son. During Sasuke's childhood, Fugaku told him that he can come with him to see Mikoto's parents. However he was surprised when Sasuke said Itachi will train him. Once Fugaku came back from his trip, he was surprised to see that Sasuke slept outside. Once Itachi is eleven years old, Fugaku places him in the Anbu.
When Itachi was thirteen; Fugaku, not wanting to cause bloodlust out of spite, conspired a coup d'etat that would allow the Uchiha clan to take control of the village. Eventually, Fugaku placed Itachi as a spy in the Anbu to pass information back to the clan. However, Itachi secretly betrayed the Uchiha and became a double agent, leaking information right back to the village.
As Itachi was the eldest of his sons, and hence the successor of the clan. Fugaku focused most of his attention on him, even defending Itachi when he was suspected of killing Uchiha Shisui. However, the two had a falling out when Itachi lost hope in the clan, leading Fugaku to shift his attention to Sasuke, even teaching him how to use the Great Fireball Technique, and was impressed at how Sasuke was able to master the technique after just one week. Sasuke was finally able to enjoy his father's company, but Fugaku advised him not to follow in Itachi's footsteps.
After another clan meeting about the coup de'tat, Fugaku called Itachi to speak with him privately. When Fugaku asked him if he knew of their clan meeting, Itachi told him no. Once Fugaku told Itachi that the next clan meeting is in three days, Itachi told him that he has a mission. While seeing Itachi walk away, Fugaku told him not to run away from his Uchiha destiny, and also told him to meet him after their clan meeting. While at the Naka Shrine, he revealed that the stone tablet within the Naka Shrine held secrets to a better world for all, but required an evolved Mangekyo Sharingan to read it at all instead of the Sharingan. Itachi suspects that his father wants him to read it, but Fugaku tells him no. He reveal the truth about his Mangekyo Sharingan. To this end, Fugaku revealed his plan to Itachi, on how he would control the village by using Itachi's Anbu position as a means to allow him to subjugate the village as the Hokage. But Itachi asked him if this was a way to protect the village as the Hokage.
Therefore he shows Itachi through a genjutsu that he wanted to capture Uzumaki Naruto, by extracting Kurama out of him, and using it against Konoha. Knowing of his son's hesitance for bloodshed and reluctance to attack the village, he expressed his desire for this revolution to end without any deaths, insisting that with Itachi's help, they can achieve that goal. Fugaku then asked Itachi to help save the clan.
During the Uchiha Clan Massacre, Fugaku quickly realized Itachi was behind the attack and confronted him by using a shadow clone. While speaking with his son they spoke about expressing their respective views. Before his shadow clone disappear, Fugaku realized that Itachi was murdering the clan to save Sasuke and Naruto's life. As his shadow clone disappeared, Fugaku gained the memories from his clone, before Itachi came to the house. When Itachi confronted his parents at home, Fugaku told Itachi that he didn't set any traps in the room that he is in. While sitting down on the floor next to his wife, Fugaku and Mikoto did not resist death. Fugaku told Itachi that even though he chose the village over the clan, he was still proud of him, and asked him to take care of Sasuke before he let Itachi kill him. Fugaku was later found dead while laying on top of his wife's corpse.
PersonalityAs leader of the Uchiha, Fugaku was focused on the clan's interest and welfare and had a strong sense of responsibility. His youngest son, Uchiha Sasuke, saw him as a stern and uncaring man though his wife revealed he cared deeply for his youngest child. Whenever he was with Itachi upon seeing that he master the Great Fire Ball technique and learning that he made it in the the ANBU, he would always say "You are my son indeed" after he sees his accomplishments. In the English version, he would say that's my boy. However Fugaku would also say this to Sasuke when he witness him master the Great Fire Ball technique in under just one week.
In the anime, when the Third Shinobi War ended, Fugaku genuinely wanted to preserve peace in Konoha. He even went as far as to instruct his fellow clan members to leave Kakashi alone, who had been recently implanted with a Sharingan from Obito. He expressed genuine happiness when Sasuke was born, proudly holding him into the air. He told his wife that he decided to name their youngest son Sasuke after Hiruzen's father because he wanted Sasuke to grow up into a fine shinobi like his namesake and he believed his son would never dishonor the Uchiha name.
In the anime, Fugaku also inherited much of the Will of Fire, going along with the relocation despite the Uchiha Clan's protests because he did not want to make the situation in Konoha worse than it already is. He also genuinely wanted to preserve peace in Konoha. He was also much more wise than his clan, willing to cooperate with the relocation if the village would quell their suspicions over time, but eventually lost his patience. Even after agreeing with his clan's desire for revolution, he expressed his dismay at going about it in a way that involved the bloodshed of civilians, hoping to end it quickly and with as little bloodshed as possible. He even chose to keep his Mangekyo Sharingan a secret from his clan in fear that it would drive them to seek greater power through amoral means. When he saw Itachi slaughter their clan, he gave Itachi a chance for an explanation. After realizing he was doing this to safeguard Sasuke's life, Fugaku, not wanting to fight in a death match with his son, allowed Itachi to kill him in exchange for securing Sasuke's future.
While he was seen as a father figure to the rest of the clan. As Itachi was his successor as head of the clan, Fugaku spent much of his time focusing on the development of his eldest and spent no time with his youngest. Sasuke trained constantly in order to get his father's attention and approval. Near the end of his life, Fugaku had switched his attention to Sasuke, having lost hope in Itachi. He was only impressed by great feats and rarely praised anyone, having high expectations. Fugaku was very serious, hardly smiling most of the time. He also had a short temper, easily getting angry at Itachi for trying to deny an important mission in exchange for attending Sasuke's Ninja Academy initiation, and for refusing to attend an important clan meeting.
Despite Fugaku's love for his wife and children, he was apparently unable to overcome his clan's curse, which ultimately led to his death. Stemming from this, when Itachi attempted to persuade his father to stop the coup d'tact, the cries fell on deaf ears and he simply told Itachi he was being arrogant. At the same time, he could not bring himself to harm his own family. This led for him to learn about Itachi's way of life as a shinobi.
Fugaku did seek to motivate Sasuke despite not realizing Sasuke wanted him to acknowledge that he was his son instead of telling him to be a splendid shinobi like his brother, which actually hurt Sasuke rather than making him happy.
According to Mikoto, when she and Fugaku are alone, Fugaku would mostly if not only talk about Sasuke. But he was still a very caring individual to his sons as he told Itachi despite the fact he took Konoha's side over the Uchiha's, he was still proud of him. He loved both his sons dearly and rather than resist death, he and his wife willingly allowed Itachi to kill them but in exchange, so that Itachi can take care of Sasuke. Ironically, though, Fugaku would never learn that Sasuke would bring shame to the Uchiha name through his desire for vengeance years later.
In Tsunade's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream, Fugaku also wanted to see how Sasuke bonded very well with Itachi. Since the former witness his youngest son inherited their clans curse of hatred. Fugaku even admitted to Minato that he is a better father compare to him, since the Hokage raised Naruto to have a pure heart.
Fugaku had short, brown hair that reached to his shoulders and onyx-colored eyes. His eyes has visible creases below them made more pronounced whenever he adopted a stern look (both of which Itachi inherited from him). He wore a simple kimono with grey pants which had the clan's symbol on the back when not on duty. While on duty, he wore the standard flak jacket, along with a black shirt with the Konoha Military Police Force symbol on the shoulders. Alongwith wearing shin-guards and a black open-front apron with white diamonds on the bottom.
As the leader of the Uchiha clan and the Konoha Military Police Force, Fugaku was likely a formidable shinobi and well-versed in all of his clan's techniques. Fugaku's skills were held in high regard by his fellow clansmen as they felt Fugaku should have been a contender for the Fourth Hokage alongside Namikaze Minato and Orochimaru. He was also among the shinobi present atop the Ninja Academy for Minato's inauguration as Hokage, suggesting he was a highly respected individual amongst the village. His abilities were so advanced that even his elder son Itachi, a prominent member of their clan at the time, hoped to avoid fighting such an opponent.
He was supposedly very good with shuriken, as Sasuke said that Itachi was very skilled with shuriken. But Sasuke also stated that Itachi was best with such tools, even more so than their own father.
As a member of the Uchiha clan, Fugaku was an adept user of Fire Release techniques. Fugaku also taught Sasuke the clan's signature technique, the Great Fireball Technique, demonstrating great mastery of the technique. In the anime, he could also use shadow clones.
Like most members of his clan, Fugaku possessed the Sharingan. The dojutsu granted him the ability to see chakra, predict movements, and place victims under genjutsu with a single glance. His accomplishments during the Third Shinobi War earned him the nickname of Wicked Eye Fugaku (兇眼フガク), presumably for his prowess with the Sharingan. With it, he can invoke powerful and elaborate genjutsu.
Mangekyo SharinganHe also had some knowledge about the Mangekyo Sharingan, after telling Sasuke that it needs a great sacrifice to awaken. In the anime, Fugaku had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan during the Third Shinobi War after losing a dear friend. Its design was three spiralling curves around the pupil, and had three dots around them. Although, not much is known about his Mangekyo Sharingan. However he confident that it was strong enough to completely control Kurama.
His intelligence was noted by Danzo as one of the greatest in generations. He was also shown to be highly observant, able to quickly determine when he was being spied on from afar.

Fourth Shinobi War arc
- Tsunade's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream
In Tsunade's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream, the Uchiha Clan Massacre also never happened. Which made Fugaku never grew into the Curse of Hatred, including to have him and Mikoto still raise Itachi and Sasuke. During Sasuke's childhood, when he enrolled into the Ninja Academy. Fugaku met up with Minato's family by meeting Naruto for the first time. When Minato asked Sasuke to be friends with Naruto, Fugaku also suggested to Minato that Naruto is now Sasuke's rival. When Sasuke was at the age of seven, he always looked forward to spending time with Itachi. But Itachi was summoned by Minato, so he suggests Sasuke spend time with their father who compares him unfavorably to Itachi when he tries the Great Fireball Technique for the first time. He gave Sasuke advice by telling him that he needs to surpass Itachi since he is still in the Anbu. When Sasuke came back from training on the Great Fire Ball technique, he overheard Fugaku and the others failing to stage a coup d'état against the village for ostracizing the Uchiha clan, but were stopped by Minato. This made Sasuke respect the Hokage for saving the clan from revolting.
Years later when Sasuke is now a genin, upon returning from a mission. Fugaku berates Sasuke for failing to stop his team-mates from breaking the rules. Itachi arrives to deliver a report to Fugaku, so Sasuke leaves. Later when Sasuke came home from learning the chidori, Fugaku thought that Itachi was with him upon seeing Sasuke by himself. Sasuke then told him that he was training to new technique. Fugaku dismisses Sasuke and is unimpressed by his training.
Later that night after Sasuke is home, thinking about the Chidori. He considers asking Fugaku for advice, so he asks Fugaku if he can speak with him but he tells him he's busy. But Itachi invites Sasuke to participate in a discussion with their father. Fugaku questions Itachi, who reports he believes Minato's efforts in changing the way the Uchiha are treated are sincere. Itachi adds that for it to happen, the Uchiha must change as well, meeting them in the middle. Sasuke is appalled by Itachi's comment but is cut off by Fugaku, who tells him that Itachi is the one talking along with being certain Itachi came to that conclusion after careful consideration, and considers finding common ground a good decision. Which makes Sasuke resents Fugaku for always siding with Itachi. Itachi reveals the Uchiha have been chosen for a long term mission that would keep some of them away. Fugaku agrees with this mission and gives Itachi full support. Unknown to him that this made Sasuke more angry at his father even more.
Due to Itachi being away on a long term mission, Sasuke and Fugaku have a little talk. Sasuke decides to no longer expect anything from his father, and asks something from him. Sasuke requests for Fugaku with permission from Minato to be taken off Team 7, and be transferred to the Konoha Military Police Force, so he can leave to shadow other Uchiha on their long term mission.
Three years later upon his return to the village, Fugaku learns from the reports that Sasuke became second only to Shisui. When Sasuke declares he will also surpass Itachi, Fugaku promotes him in the Konoha Military Police Force as a lieutenant, to see it Sasuke can back his claims up with action. Sasuke accepts, and leaves angrily remembering the day he left Konoha. Then when Sasuke's unit gets arrested for threatening Kushina at her house telling her, that they will arrest her while the unit is looking for Naruto. Fugaku upon hearing this tells his clans men to take Sasuke's unit away. He then tells Sasuke that even though he has grown stronger in three years, he believes his earlier comment on surpassing Itaxhi was an act. He then expresses his disappointment in Sasuke's development by telling him that he will never catch up to Itachi, and that the clan doesn't need someone like him in the police force. Fugaku then fires him from the police force completely.
Upon being inside the Chibaku Tensei, Fugaku advises his clan members to protect the villagers. Right after the village was free from the Chibaku Tensei, Minato thanks Fugaku for helping out with the village. While Fugaku admits that Minato is a much better parent than him since he raised Naruto to have a pure heart. Whereas he believes that he is a horrible parent, since he focused more on Itachi than Sasuke, which made Sasuke hate him. But Minato tells him that they are trying their hardest to find both of sons, which Fugaku thanks him for since he wants to see how both of his sons get along.
Prior to the massacre, Fugaku was close to his older son, Uchiha Itachi. As a child, Itachi would always happily ask for his father to train him. But he would from his mother that his father is at a meeting. However Mikoto would always warn Itachi not to eavesdrop on his father's meetings. Itachi eavesdropped any way and learn that the clan showed hatred for Minato being pick as the Fourth Hokage instead of Fugaku. When Itachi was four, his father took him to see dead corpses of war victims in order for Itachi to learn the hardships of being a shinobi but it made Itachi become a pacifist. Once Itachi enter the Ninja Academy, Fugaku would always be on point when Itachi had got good grades. When Itachi was seven, Fugaku taught him the Great Fireball Technique. But he was surprised that Itachi was able to master the technique on his first try. He would even be happy to learn from Sasuke that Itachi is learning new techniques such as the substituting technique. Once Itachi was at the age of thirteen, he stop eating dinner with his family completely which made Fugaku wonder if he'll ever understand his son.
Even though Itachi was favored by his father for being a prodigy, he disapproved of his father neglecting Sasuke. Even telling Fugaku to hold off on the clan meeting so he can accompany Sasuke to his Ninja Academy entrance ceremony; since the meeting was on the same day. Since Itachi didn't come to any of the clan meetings, Fugaku would ask him where he was. But Itachi would tell him that he was on a top secret mission and he would tell Fugaku that Sasuke is eavesdropping on their conversation which shocked Fugaku. Once Itachi was suspected to be Shisui's murder, Fugaku would defend his son, and would make sure that his clan members wouldn't put Itachi in jail.
After another clan meeting about the coup de'tat, Fugaku called Itachi to speak with him privately. He revealed that the stone tablet within the Naka Shrine held secrets to a better world for all, but required an evolved Sharingan to read it at all. revealing the truth about his Mangekyo Sharingan instead of the Sharingan. Itachi suspects that his father wants him to read it, but Fugaku tells him no. He was shock he saw that his father has a Mangekyo Sharingan. Itachi learned about his father's plan, on how he would control the village by using Itachi's Anbu position as a means to allow him to subjugate the village as the Hokage. A plan of which Itachi was not proud of, in which he asked Fugaku if this was a way to protect the village as the Hokage.
Knowing of his son's hesitance for bloodshed and reluctance to attack the village, Fugaku placed Itachi under a genjutsu to which Fugaku showed Itachi what would happen if he controlled Kurama. In his father's genjutsu, Itachi saw that his father wanted to capture Naruto, by extracting Kurama out of him, and using it against Konoha. After Itachi saw the genjutsu with horror on his face, Fugaku expressed his desire for this revolution to end without any deaths, insisting that with Itachi's help, they can achieve that goal. A task that Itachi would not help him with.
When he decided to go through with killing the Uchiha Clan, Itachi took the responsibility of killing his parents. While killing some of the clan members Itachi met up with his father's shadow clone. As he spoke with his father's shadow clone, both expressed their true goals in life, not only for themselves but for their clan and the village. Before his father's shadow clone disappeared, Fugaku realized that Itachi was murdering the clan to save Sasuke and Naruto's life. After speaking with his father's shadow clone, Itachi went to confront his parents.
At first he hesitated to open the door to the room that his parents were in, but was surprised on not only were they not kill yet but when his father told him that he didn't place any traps in the room. Fugaku accepted his decision to side with the village over the clan and didn't hesitate to fight for his life. Fugaku then asked Itachi to take care of Sasuke as his last request and telling him not to hold back on his emotions, to which Itachi agreed for both terms. Itachi hesitated to kill his father while he was shaking and crying as he promised them that he would take care of Sasuke when he successfully killed Fugaku.
Fugaku's youngest son is Uchiha Sasuke, a boy who didn't open up to his father very much. Despite being a prodigy himself, Sasuke always felt he was being unfairly compared to Itachi by their father. As a result of his father spending no time with him while focusing so much on Itachi, Sasuke was determined to win his father's recognition first by excelling in the Ninja Academy and then learning the Uchiha's Great Fire Ball Tecnhique, which his father taught him and this led him to finally be recognized for his own abilities. When Itachi began withdrawing from the clan, Sasuke's relationship with his father started to get better until the Uchiha Clan Massacre took place. In his final words, Fugaku asked Itachi to take care of Sasuke, showing his affection and concern for his youngest son.
